Hi guys
I just bought a new microsd-card for my shield tablet of 128GB.
I saw on the nvidia shield faq that +64GB microsd-card have to be formatted as NTFS.
It gets mounted ok.
But it seems i cant copy any files with my OI FILE MANAGER and ANDROZIP.
Although i can move apps to the SD-card.
Is this a permissions issue?
edit:: it seems that ES File Explorer works
Thanks

I transferred the SD card from my phone to the Shield and I have a couple of installers/APKs in there that I wanted to install. So I downloaded ES File Explorer, navigated to Storage/sdcard1/path/to/apks and when trying to install, I get a parsing error message. I can only install the apk if I copy it to internal storage. How do I get it to install from the sd card?

I've no clue why you weren't able to do it.
But i was able to do it without any hassle.
I've few APk's for Benchmarks, MXPlayer(Free version) & some test applications which i keep swapping using my SD Card.
I was able to browse them through ES File explorer & Install flawlessly.
Are you doing this for the Games ?
Most games(off late), need the respective libraries to be present. example: /media/obb

Same here, after/right before the latest update.
I'll probably try reformatting the sd card again. Mine went straight from my s3 to the Shield but really don't think that would have mattered since its still just a fat32 formatted sd card so its kind of weird for it to act like that inside the Shield.

Well i have the same problem i cant install apks using my external storage(microsd 64 gb) any solutions to this problem?
To clarify i clicked origin resource in the developers mode, even enable it i cant install apks from my nvidia shield
Parsing error fix!
2 solutions
1.) first make sure you format the SDcard with the device.
2.) if that doesnt work or can't simply use your pc or file explorer to copy the apk to devices internal memory this resolved my issues with Nvidia shield and Samsung note 2
I am encountering an issue, for which I have been researching all day with no resolve. Galaxy Note 3.
The issue is that I cannot copy or move files INTO the internal memory.
With Root Explorer, I can read/write/edit files in /system (which verifies root), I can even create a directory, delete directory, or rename in /sdcard, I just cannot copy or move files into /sdcard.
When I connect the phone to a computer, I *can* move files from external SD into "phone" (internal storage/sdcard).
Oddly, Root Browser *can* copy files from ext-sd to int-sd (Root Browser seems to invoke SU just to copy files from ext-sd into /sdcard).
Root Explorer, FX, ES cannot. They all have root privileges and have been uninstalled/reinstalled.
I have other phones with exact same configs, but never had this problem.
Any idea on the cause?

Can you move your apps to SD card???
you can try backing up your SD card data to your pc and formatting it in Fat32..
I am having the same issue! It apparently happened after i did a nandroid restore to stock from CM11. I realized this when certain apps stopped working such as GTA San Andreas (could not save game anymore), and Torrent downloaders (Could not save .torrent files to hpone anymore errors). I dont understand what the issue maybe? does CM11 corrupt Internal storage? im formatting both internal storage and reinstalling my rom to see what happens. hopefully this fixes the problem!
EDIT: Looks like that solved the issue! Im not sure though if me formatting the internal storage helped or reinstalling the whole rom helped. Hope this helps others!
I'm using ES File Manager to copy files from my computer to a new Note PRO. I can copy files to the internal storage but I can't copy to the external SD. Also, I cannot use ES File Manager to move files from internal storage to the SD. I can use the stock file manager to move files between internal and SD. So the questions are:
1) Can ES File Manager be made to copy files to the SD card?
2) If not, then can the stock file manager access Windows devices to copy files from the computer to the SD?
Likely the Kitkat SD write permission issue. See here:

Yep, that looks like it. Thank you. I'm not ready to root yet to solve the issue. I was not able to tell if this is a bug or by design. It's pretty limiting.
Still trying to figure out if the built-in file manager can be used to copy from a Windows computer to the SD card.
If you connect your tablet to your windows PC you should be able to access internal and external sdcard. They will show up as separate drives. If they don't, install Kies 3 then connect your tablet again.

I was hoping to get this done using wi-fi just for the convenience. It is something I did with previous devices. It always surprised when a basic feature goes away.
If you have an FTP server installed on your PC, My Files app can pull your files that way, then save them to external sdcard
ES File Explorer implemented the workaround within the first few days of KitKat's release. I've been using it to move files in all directions to and from my MicroSD on my Note 3, S5 and NotePro for months without issue. The main thing that doesn't work is renaming.
However, the WiFi transfer to MicroSD has been blocked by Google for security reasons after a series of WiFi-related file security problems. No file manager is capable of this without Root. Same as how you can no longer download files off the internet directly onto the MicroSD.
It's much faster to just pull out the MicroSD and plug it into a PC, anyway. The transfer protocols on Android are a nightmare.
Rooted, kitkat 4.4.4.
I like to backup my entire nexus 5 to a large external sdcard using ES file explorer and stickmount pro. After an initial copy of all files it would be nice if I could copy "only changed or new files". Is there some way to modify the copy command to do that? Either in ES Explorer or Root Explorer or something else?
Edit:
1 spoke too soon. The 32gb sdcard is formatted fat32 and although I can copy files from the phone to it my backup failed when I tried to copy large files. I get an error message saying that there isn't enough space which is nonsense because the external sdcard is almost empty! Not sure why. Any help appreciated.
Am I really the only one who has errors when copy pasting large files in android?
Please advise if you can.
Yesterday I received my Nvidia Shield k1, updated to Marshallow but I can´t use a file manager to copy files to a micro sd. You can do it with the internal file manager but that it´s too limited.
The first time you try to copy a file to the micro sd (and I tried Total commander, Es file manager and X-plore) you have to select the micro sd´s root directory to give the rights to the file manager but it ends up failing and with a zero-lenght file. And when I do this with my Moto Style it works. And the same happens if you connect ith throught the microUSB with USB-OTG. The only workaround I found is to use the USB plugin in Total Commander and connect it throught USB-OTG
Has anybody tried? Would that be solved wit stickmount and root (if it works in Marshallow).
I found the. The card was formated as exFAT. I reformated as FAT32 and now it works. It also doesn´t work if the card is NTFS. So for the moment I will reformat my cards as FAT32 and endure it.
Thanks for the info OP. I just ordered mine and have been trolling the forums looking for issues or tips.
