Hello, and sorry for the dumb question.
I can't find the option to create a group in Contacts. Also, I can't find the option to send a SMS to a group.
Build LRX210 and Messenger app v1.0.123
Thanks in advance.
Groups were removed from this new contacts app for some dumb reason. We only have the ability to choose which groups to display.

You can download a contacts group app from the play store called Contacts Groups for Lollipop: http://goo.gl/WsG7g8

For making or editing your groups, you have to go to edit contact and there you have field named Groups. So you can do this from there.
You can't send SMS to a group via Messenger.
Regards, Zagor
You can send an MMS group message through messenger. I do it all the time.

hi,
i tried using ChompSMS but could not find anything related to classic sms view. Is there any setting that i am missing?
All of my friends have iPhones (Im such a rebel)...
Often someone will initiate a text message to a group of us. On their phones, they all see the group, and the responses, as they come in, come in as part of a group dialogue of texts.
But on mine, they come in singly from the different contacts - so I cant tell whats a reply to the group, which texts came in which order or even who is in the group. And I dont think I can reply to the group either (or for that matter, not sure I can even initiate a group text).
I am using GoSMS. Does anyone know whether this client, or any of the android clients, would let me participate more in this kind of group text?

Thanks everyone for the feedback and sorry for posting in the wrong forum.
Regarding the suggestion above - I see under "Send Settings" in the Advanced Tab something called "MMS Group Chat"...is that what you mean should be checked?
There is also a setting called "Send as split conversations"...do I want this to be Unchecked?
Thank you.
Another good app is GroupMe. It allow texts to go through the app or to your sms.

Ive done this and been able to initiate group chats with iPhone users so thanks for the advice.
Will this work just the same when I am invited into a group chat by an iPhone user, or does it only work when I initiate? I noticed this was under Send Options, so its unclear...

Just to confirm, I tried initiating a group chat using an iphone and yes it works just like I initiated the group messaging using gosms.

awesome thanks everyone. this should be a major improvement in my texting experience.
and it helps me stay on GoSms. I tried switching to Handcent as I saw that they had a solution to this and didnt like it as much...
Are there any group sms apps that do not steal contacts? The big ones, handcent and Go SMS, both want you to create an account - which I imagine is to suck out your contact list.

Umm 4.2 AOSP MMS has group messaging. What do you mean they try to steal your contacts? I've used gosms without creating an account.

I use handcent and I've never created an account just to send a group message. What exactly do you mean by "stealing" contacts.

I use handcent and they do not require you to create an account. Just swipe left or right on handcent.
OP is referring to a (potential) security breach when using a secondary sms service like whatsapp. Gosms and Handcent are just third-party sms software.
As per your answer, the later mentioned apps should have group mms. And I can confirm 4.2 AOSP mms has working group mms, but requires more work to get it running.

From the people app, you can scroll over to your groups. I have a few. You can see and edit the people in groups, but that's it.
On the HTC One, you can select a group and send a group message. I can find no way to do that on the Nexus 5.
And that makes me wonder: What is the point of the groups tab? It doesn't seem like you can do anything with your groups. Or am I missing something?

It seems that the groups in the People app is just to better orginize your contacts. In order to send a group message you have to have all your contacts for that group in a Google+ Circle. However once more SMS apps start popping up with 4.4 support the option your looking for might be found in one of them.
Hello.
I get a lot of spam text messages and I want to filter them out based on certain keywords. I am currently using Google hangouts. Is there any way I could block or filter them. I'd prefer that I keep using hangouts and not install a new messaging app.

Unfortunately no, you cannot with google hangouts.
Also, google hangouts MAY soon be dropping SMS support so you will need to install a new messaging app eventually.
