your volume keys should be disabled when the screen is off. unless you are using an app that enables them, or have an rom option enabling them.

I think op is asking about disabling volume keys when screen is ON, but locked. (when screen is off, yes, those are disabled)
To add to that, a locked screen should not permit anyone from enabling/disabling WiFi/BT/MobileData etc - but Android 5.0 lets them.
For me when the screen is locked the volume keys appear to work.
I'll have to test this again.

a ROM or completely stock?
Stock ROM.
Found out what the issue is. I've got a new case on my phone and it activates the smart lock when it closes..
Looks like as its new its not closing tight so the screen is still on and the volume keys work.
If I make sure its shut tight its fine.

Basically, im sure others would like this too, i want to be able to unlock the screen without having to reach up on top of the phone. I previously had the HTC Hero and i found out the trick to unlock the phone by hitting menu twice. Would someone be able to configure an app that changes the way the phone unlocks. ps i saw something with the ringer keys, im not really too fond of it. Thanks
Even the Volume keys would be much better than the power button. The menu button as you mentioned would be even better. The power button to unlock when you have a hard case on is stressful lol. I cuss'd it every time i had to use it. I use No lock now which disables the lock screen and allows the volume keys to wake it. Even using the volume keys can get annoying though. No lock screen at all is the downside (to some), so no cool sense weather animations when you wake it. Having the actual lock screen appear after waking with volume (instead of power) would be teh shiznit, Menu buttons would be even better, A rapid shaking of the phone to display the Lock screen would be my favorite though!
yeah the ringer key one is out somewhere but i want something different. Anyone up to it or trying to ATM
waking up by touching the screen would be nice too. maybe a gesture of some sort could be an option.
I'm pretty sure we can't use the touch buttons to unlock the screen as they only function when the screen is on, so an app that allows that would prolly kill the battery 10fold because it would need the screen to remain semi on.
Only other options are the volume keys, those are right there by the power button...soo yeah.
I could be wrong, who knows.

download "no lock" from the market. it enables the volume rocker to unlock the evo. it also bypasses the slide to unlock button as well. goes right onto the homescreen. whenever i need my phone, password secured, i just use the widget to turn it off. reverts back to normal. this should be exactly what you are looking for. free app.

Sense 3.0 Lockscreen for Any Phone (agile lock) by Sam Caplat
this app for android... is very good...
but it had one problem... it wakes up my screen when volume key is pressed...i don't like that...need some control not to wake screen when volume keys pressed...
any idea to solve this...anybody had same issue...may be i need an update in next version...
not able to comment in official thread...so asked in Q&A
hope u guys comment on this...
The lockscreen replacement disables your stock lockscreen. The stock lockscreen prevents the phone from waking unless the power button is pressed. I am pretty sure that WidgetLocker allows you to not be able to unlock with volume keys and still bypass the stock lockscreen, but I'm not 100% sure. I use the "easy wake" feature (unlocking with volume keys), but I do think that there's a way around it. If not, you'll have to keep your stock lockscreen as well in order to prevent the volume keys from waking the device.
Best bet would be to pm or email the developer.

Hi!
I'm running CM9 on my Nexus S and I'm using the On-Screen-Button-MOD.
It's no problem to disable the functions of the softkeys, but the problem is the backlight.
A workaround is to use a kernel with BLD, but there has to be another way I think.
The general problem is that the Nexus S's touchkey-firmware doesn't support to switch off the backlight and can't be modified, since there is no source available.
Anyway, it should be possible to completely disable the touchkeys I think! BLD is meant to dim them, but still let them work. But here they could be switched off completely.
Is there any way to completely delete the firmware or s.th. to switch off the softkeys completely (including the backlight)?

That's the trick I know, but it only disables the actions by remapping the keys to nothing, the keys themselfes stay active and the backlight does. I want to entirely switch them off.
I'm looking for the same thing, let me know if you find something
Open up the phone and unplug the capactive buttons cable from the motherboard.

On my previous phones and through reading around unpinning a screen required the user to hold both the recents button AND the back button. Does anyone know why the S6 and touchwiz only require you to hold to recents button? My toddlers use my phone for apps and kids youtube but they are constantly unpinning the screen cause of their little hands and they way they hold the phone with their thumb right on the recents button.
With the old M8 ir required both buttons to be held and they never unlocked it on their own by accident.
Anyone know why touchwiz has to be different and if there is a way to enable BOTH buttons to be used to unlock?
Not rooted and fully stock but use tasker. Perhaps there is something I could use with that if anyone has an idea.
Thanks.

i have to push recents and back buttons to un pin an app with my galaxy s6, idk maybe you have a fake galaxy s6.
maybe you are doing that in the wrong way.
Nope it's a phone direct from my carriers store so it's not a fake.
Also as you can see in the screen shot the instructions say you just need to hold the recent button.
Did you actually check yours? Maybe you are mistaken that you have to use two buttons on your S6.
Can anyone confirm for me what the instructions are exactly on their phone why trying to pin? Lots of views on this thread but no one is chiming in on how their phone works.
Mine says to hold recent button only too. I'm on 5.1.1 and never checked on 5.0.2 so I don't know if Samsung changed it.
What I've done is turn on the 'Use screen lock type to unpin' option so it requires my fingerprint after holding recents.

Hi thanks for helping out. I'm on 5.0.2.
I like your suggestion but I only use swipe lock so unfortunately I can't do that.
Maybe I'll see if I can get tasker to do something for me.
Cheers.

Mine says recent and back together. I tested it myself and recent alone does nothing but recent and back puts the phone back to normal. I'm on T-Mobile running the latest update 5/1.1

Hello, i was recently experimenting with this Project: https://github.com/epeterson320/flashlight
In android studio. Its a flashlight app with no ui you just tap the icon and the flashlight activates, however i added an intent filter to the android manifest allowing the app to be launched with the "Jump to camera" gesture, this allows you to toggle the flashlight on and off with a double tap of the power button even when the screen is locked.
Instructions
Download and install
Lock phone and double tap power button
Enter your PIN or fingerprint
Select flashlight as default app
This will only work on phones that have the "Jump to camera" gesture. For example Nexus and Pixel phones, OnePlus phones and probably more. It will also replace the camera shortcut obviously. Clear defaults to select camera again.
so yeah hope someone finds this useful
Credit to @epeterson320 for creating the original app.
Download below in attached files
Thank you!!! This is amazing.
Christ this is like the one feature that's a deal breaker for me, Xposed torch is great but not seeing Xposed for android 9 yet; and this works well enough. Great thinking and thank you!
Problem
Hello. I have got a problem. Every time the phone is turned off for a longer period, when i double tap a power button camera turns on instead of flashlight. When I turn off the camera and double tam button again, flashlight works. Have anyone got this problem too? (xz1 compact, 47.2.A.8.24)
Edit: I have found out that when i remove password protection everything works
@James_Ward01 would you be willing to share your source code? I want to see if I can get the app to activate without waking the screen.

The app I have on here for download should work with the screen off as I added both android.media.action.STILL_IMAGE_CAMERA_SECURE
And android.media.action.STILL_IMAGE_CAMERA
Intent filters, the _SECURE one meaning it should work with the screen off. At least this was the case on my Nexus 6p at the time.

It does work with screen off. What I want to accomplish is to keep the screen off when I launch from the lockscreen. I don't want the screen to turn on when I double-press the power button. Maybe this is impossible?

Ah, I don't know then, I'm sure it is possible one way or another but I'm afraid getting that to work is beyond me,
Couldn't get it to work with home button on S10 but works perfectly mapped to Bixby button ????

Yes Samsung don't allow the power button to be remapped unfortunately. Glad you found a use for it though.
This works great on the pixel 5, thanks!!
Confirmed, I was using it as well on pixel 5 until now, thanks!
However, new problem :s I couldn't resist trying out Android 12 Beta 3.1 and then no power button access to flashlight anymore.
Same deal for me : Pixel 4a, was using this app daily when I was under Android 11, did the update to Android 12, not working anymore... Sad

You could use System Power:

Toggle Flashlight on/off : NO Root is needed

Sorry but I'm not sure to understand how your app may help : We're talking about enabling the flashlight using physical button shortcut.
Maybe I missed something but for me that's not what your app is doing, is it ?
Anyway, I'm using Torchie now and it kinda work : You enable it by pressing Vol+ AND Vol- at the same time, but it ONLY work when you're on the lockscreen and the screen is on.
So : "Power" to wake the screen, "Vol+ and Vol- together" to turn the light on or off
If anybody find something better, let us know. For now, this is a little cumbersome but it's working.
The Tap Tap app on GitHub works for flashlight by double tapping the back of the phone.
