Can't find anything in storage on factory image 5.0 - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I flashed the 5.0 factory image (just the bootloader and system parts, franco.Kernel and superSu, did a Factory Reset). When I try to access my data via the Photos app or ES explorer, I can't see anything. However, when I tried to send a pic via whatsapp, I could see my entire gallery there, as though the information still exists on the device.... This is especially weird because I was using an AOSP built Lollipop ROM for a couple of days and haven't encountered any issues whatsoever.
How can I solve this problem?

Same crap happened to me. I think something happened when dalvik was converted to art. It took me a while to figure it out but clean flash back to a dalvik 4.4.4 rom, I used dirty unicorns. Afterwards clean flash lollipop. Good luck.

"Can't Connect to Camera" on AOSP only

As the title states, I can't get my camera to run on any AOSP ROMs. Camera works fine as soon as I switch to something TW based, but breaks as soon as I load anything AOSP.
I've searched everywhere I can think for this issue and have tried solutions that have worked for others but with no success. I've tried flashing back to stock unrooted, then rooting and starting all over again. I've tried copying cameradata files from TW based to AOSP (in several variations). I've tried reflashing (and I've done nothing but clean flashes each time I'm flashing anything). If it matters, my normal method is to wipe data/factory reset, then clear cache and dalvik, then install ROM + gapps, and then reboot.
I'm using CWM touch recovery v6.0.2.3, firmware VRBMF1 (and one or two others), and have tried leankernel in addition to stock kernels.
It may be worth mentioning that this is a refurbished device and I used Casual's One Click Root, whereas previously (Jan 2013) I rooted the long way and had no issues with anything really.
I had this problem for months. I did a clean install and it fix the problem. Try doing that and it might work for you too.
What do you mean by clean install?

He's probably meaning to wipe everything in CWM. Data, system, sdcard, etc. Pretty much everything and you'll probably fix your problem. Maybe even flashing latest firmware again wouldn't hurt.

Do you mean in the "mounts and storage" menu? Use format /system... /data... /sdcard? I think that's what you mean, but I've not had to use those before, so I wanna make sure.
Thanks

I had the same problem with my phone, I made a thread a little while ago with what I did. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2492304 ask any questions you have on there I want to improve it as this was a very frustrating and time consuming fix for me.

[Q] "Android is Optimizing.." Issues - NEED HELP!

Hi Everyone,
I've been having some trouble getting custom ROMs to fully boot on my girlfriend's Galaxy Tab 2 (p3113). I was able to gain root access (I used this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2510669) and managed to install the latest CM rom, SlimRom, or OmniRom (with their respective Gapps).
However, I always run into the same problem: whenever I reboot from recovery (regardless of which rom was installed), android begins "optimizing" apps (presumably because I've cleared caches, including dalvik) and at the end, reports 2-3 process that have unexpectedly stopped, and reboots. I've done clean wipes with each install, and even tried re-downloading the roms, but nothing seems to work. Also, it doesn't seem like the stopped processes are consistent between roms. For example, the CM rom would report calendar and keyboard processes that have stopped, whereas Omnirom would report mediastorage and google search processes that have stopped.
Anyone have any ideas of what I can do to fix this?
It sounds like you are not doing a full wipe, I dont think it should be optimizing on a fresh clean install. Try factory reset, wipe cache/dalvik. And possibly system.(usually recomended)

Thanks - that what I suspected as well, although I thought I was doing a full wipe (including /system) in TWRP, but maybe not?
Anyway, I somehow got it working last night after formatting /data and then flashing the last CM stable release (CM-10.1.3, p3110). Got the tablet to boot and setup and everything. Maybe there was something conflicting in the data folder, or that there was no more space on the internal SD. Guess I won't know now..
But I decided to flash the latest Omnirom instead, to get a 4.4 rom. Seems to be working fine now. Thanks for the reply!

Updated to the latest CM 12.1

So i updated to the new CM just now. I did a complete wipe, even the recovery was gone. Just to be clear, no backups were made, root was gone etc.
after installing the rom, i flashed AK kernel, and supersu. So no other app was flashed to the phone.
I booted into the phone after i was done flashing supersu and all of my apps, wifi passwords etc were still there. i made sure to wipe the cache, internal storage, etc before flashing the rom but they were still there. I get its kind of a good thing but im just afraid that it will cause issues eventually.
anybody have any ideas if im just worrying over nothing or maybe i should wipe it again?

You might have restored/ reinstalled app from your google account.. That's the only thing I can think of at the moment.
i thought that, but theres apps on my phone that arent on playstore that were there. still think i should wipe again :*(

Use the phone as it is now. If you face issues, clean flash.

My phone randomly died? (Soft brick, not a hardware failure)

So I have an XT1031 and it's been running Ressurection Remix MM (Thuglife kernel) for about a year now when suddenly it died today.
I haven't messed with anything, simply uninstalled some apps, mainly games then a few hours later it all the sudden rebooted, now when it boots up it'll optimize apps and once it has finished it will crash or something basically causing it to bootloop. Why?
Thankfully anything really important, such as pictures, are already backed up to dropbox, so I haven't lost very much but is there anyway to salvage it?
(Note: I have booted into recovery and tried deleting both the cache as well as the Dalvik/ART cache no good, unfortunately...)
And... While I'm here I figure I might as well ask how to install Nougat? By that I mean, can I go straight from MM into Nougat or do I need any sort of updates first?
Thanks.
Alright, since nobody apparently has any ideas on the matter, I went ahead and factory wiped my phone and it works now, although I'll probably wipe it and install a Nougat rom later.

Restoring apps to restore OS

Well I feel stupid. I uninstalled the Google Play Music and Movie apps with system app remover. Now the phone won't boot.
When I try to boot it just goes to Fastboot, and I can load TWRP just fine, but it won't load the OS. Any suggestions? Is there a way to reinstall those apps from outside the OS? I tried a factory reset but that didn't do anything, either.
Get a zip of the OS you're running and just install it on top with twrp without any wiping. It should add the missing pieces back. I did the same thing recently and that solved my issue. Good luck!
Is there a way to look up from in TWRP which OS version I have? Not just 9 but specifically 9.what.what?
Edit: Nevermind, I found it in build.prop
