[Completed] [Q] i9500 still on 4.2.2, Need some guidance. - XDA Assist

Hey all, I know this is a newbie question but there are way too many answers out there for me to guess which is the best one. I'm still on 4.2.2 and haven't looked at any rooting info since I did the original root on my S4 when it came out. As you can imagine, I feel years out of date and forgot most of what little bit I once knew. I blocked the OTA updates so it didn't break my root but now I need to update to a newer version for a couple of my apps to work. I want to get back to what I have as quick and easy as possible.
I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to update to 4.3 or 4.4 and which rom to go with. I like to keep it simple, clean and stable.
My concerns are:
Knox issue - Completely new to me...
Restoring my apps & data - Been rooting for many years but never had to restore before. Again, new to me.
Currently on: 4.2.2
Baseband Version: L720VPUAMDL
Kernel: 3.4.0 shabbypenguin#Minty-Fresh-14 #1
Build #: JDQ39.L720VPUAMDL
Have: CWM 1.0.3.3, Mobile ODIN Pro, SuperSU Pro, ROM Toolbox Pro, VooDoo OTA Rootkeeper, GooManager
Not sure what to use for what I'm trying to do. Man I feel so out of the loop...
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

[Completed] [Q] Please Help me

Hi,
So today as i was installing the exposed module i managed to soft brick my phone. I am really new to android as its my first decent phone, I used to own an apple device and through out the time i learnt to mod it in lots of way so i thought this may be simple too. Now I complete panic state. I bought an S4 GT-I9505 and after installing an exposed module my device wouldnt boot. So then i tried reflashing the firmware with odin but because that didnt work i went to cyanogen-mod and stated messing about and ended up installing this driver into my s4 (see image attached). Now my phone isnt even recognised be odin, i am so scared and so nervous. Would somebody please just be able to help me and tell my what i should do?
I want to learn the android system but this is just really freaking me out... I would be EXTREMELY grateful if someone could just tell me what to do to just be able to boot my phone up again

[Completed] [Q] Samsung galaxy s4 metro pcs / want root access

So i have been wanting to root my s4 i got from metro pcs (carrier) for a while. i don't use the phone for making calls so I don't have it currently activated (use only with wifi).
I tried a while back to root it but for some reason i couldn't gain access with superuser. Found out recently that there is a kernel block (also Knox has something to do with this) with these phones. I'm not exactly tech savvy with the back end stuff, and after a couple of hours in the forums quickly found out that changing the kernel to gain root access (without initially having root access,) was above my brains pay grade. and i might need a laymans term to get me through this.
SO, my question is simple. what forum do i post to get a retards format of what is needed to be done so i can shake the shackles of samsung off my phone?

[Completed] [Q] Hyperdrive ROM install

I would like to install Hyperdrive ROM on my GS4. A few questions:
I am about to re-root after my NG6 update. Can I install a Hyperdrive ROM from NG6 and if so, which version?
Or do I have to downgrade to NC5 (which is OK)? If so, do I use Hyperdrive 16 as in the video by RootJunkie?
Also, in the video, he downloads "NC5 Modules" to be installed via SS. I can't find them anywhere! If I use NG6 or a later Hyperdrive version, do I still need the NC5 Modules?
I'm a little confused and could use a little help.
Thanks!
Hi,
If this is the rom you are referring to, it has a dedicated Q&A thread for questions regarding the rom...

[Completed] Rooting S4, 4.4.2 Kitkat with NH8 update. Any real way..nothing seems to work

I have S4 with 4.4.2 Kitkat with NH8 update. This phone is in Philippines and locked to a local provider "Globe telecom"
I have tried Towelroot meethod as well as 7-8 other methods i found on the web to root this phone but nothing seems to work despite following every process to the tee multiple times.
My question - Post the NH8 update, is there any real possible genuine way of rooting the S4 or should i stop trying?

[Completed] [Q] just rooted phone and stuck as to kernal etc

I may appear a little simple but I have just rooted my Samsung Galaxy S4 (GT i9505). It's vodafone (don't know if that matters). I want to install a kernal to overclock etc and custom ROM, but talks of bricking if you use the wrong one has frozen me and I need to know if ANY ROM/kernal that is compatible with the i9505 will be ok. I'm just a little confused, being new to all this. Any helplful advice would be most appreciated. Thank you all very much, and sorry to be so numb!
Hi,
I'm not sure what you mean about the bricking, but I do know that if you flash anything not designed for your exact device model, yes, you can and likely will brick. So just be sure anything you want to flash is for your exact model number and that you follow the instructions exactly.
Any more questions about this or anything else can be asked on this dedicated help thread for your device,
