[q]lollipop stock rooted rom? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so my motherboard is currently fried and I'm not going to be able to buy a new mobo and install ut myself for a while. So Im running stock rooted 4.4.4 on my nexus 5 with elementalx n5 kernel and clockwork recovery touch. Are there any lollipop rooted roms i can flash without using fastboot or anything that requires a pc seeing how mine is out of commission? I would use adb and fastboot and all that if i could but i cant. Also, does lollipop require a new bootloader? If so are there any that are flashable without fastboot? Ive searched but i cant find what im looking for. I need flashable from cwm without pc.

you can flash any of the aosp builds, flash a kernel, and flash supersu, like any other rom. you dont need a computer for that. look in the n5 android development threads.

Im kind of weird i guess? Also, im guessing it's kind of early, but i'm looking for the stock image itself prerooted and busybox and deodexed. I know these will come with time but im just wondering if any are released as opposed to aosp. Also, whats the difference between lrx21o and lrx21m?
Edit: never mind I found the change log for the differences.

wont come. lollipop needs a kernel that allows root, if you want root. the default lollipop kernel does not allow root. if you want stock, you can flash a zipped stock rom(in the n5 android development section there is 2). if you want root, youll need to flash a lollipop kernel that allows root plus the latest supersu.

Alright thanks. I'll have another look around then and see if i can find something that satisfies me.

Should I root and put CWR on?

Hey guys, it seems as though things are a bit more complicated in the Tablet world. My Android phones I rooted right away and put CWR on right away however it seems as though the latest and greatest Android updates from Asus won't work if you do so. Are there available stock roms that are released that you can flash straight to the device while keeping CWR?
Oh the Galaxy S which I use, many people released rooted stock roms where you can flash if you so choose. I haven't seen any CWR flashable stock Android 3.2 roms for the Transformer.
Absolutely not, based on your question.
You should only root if you are not satisfied with stock roms or wish to run apps that require root (superuser permissions) - and of course are willing to assume the possibility of voiding your warranty or damaging your device. If you really want the flexibility and are willing to assume the risk, then, there are rooted stock roms available. Please check the developers forum for possible roms.
Good luck with whatever you decide.
If you want to root, for whatever reason, and just keep stock there is a zip file that is released in this forum to do updates with CWR. I rooted my tf just so I could easily change my speaker settings and do backups. Just put the zip on your sd card and boot into recovery and the latest updates are applied, nice and easy. The zip update was out the day before my tf downloaded it so they come out pretty quick.
The zip is in this thread...

Cheers.
Rooting is more of a personal question. There's no definite reason to root unless you want to improve something. By stock roms I'm assuming you mean official updates from Asus, so the answer is no.
There are 3 different roms for the Transformer that are CWR flashable...I have no idea where you are looking.

Development Help

Hey guys I have been working on building a ROM based on the current OTA, pre-rooted and deodexed and a few other perks thrown in. At any rate, this is my first ROM and while I would be comfortable flashing a ROM for experimenting with to my Kindle or my Dinc because they have bootloaders that are worth something, the problem with the D2G is that if I get caught in a bootloop I don't know what to do because as far as I know there is no way to access CWM from outside of rebooting to it from a rooted ROM. Does anyone know what to do because I would like to get this development rolling but I would rather not run the risk of bricking my phone if I can help it. Thanks!
In other words, in the case that i get a bootloop how would I go about recovering my device? flash a stock update.zip through stock recovery?
OTA updates can only be installed on top of stock firmware they are made for. If there are altered files in /system that are on the check list, it won't work.

Questions about updating from 4.1.2 to 4.3. What Do I loose?

So I tried reading some other threads, but honestly, alot of it just sounds waaaaaay too technical to me. I have a rooted 4.1.2 Verizon S3. Im getting the OTA notification to instal 4.3, but I cant install it until I go back to stock and then install it after Im unrooted. But I dont know if doing any of this is what I'm getting for what Im loosing. I dont know what a difference in modems will make, or things like that, but the big one I see is that it locks out Bootloader and able to install custom roms. Does that mean I also loose my ability to boot into Clockwork Mod? Or the ability to boot to the rom installation screen (Vol Down, Home and Power, then Vol Up)?
So can someone just help me out, and to pull a phrase from the reddit book, explain it to me like im 5.

OK, if you update to 4.3, it will lock your bootloader and you CAN NOT install custom rom/kernel or recovery (CWM/TWRP) any more. Your phone will be just like stock phone with stock recovery. The only option is you still can root. Just FYI, there is a work around called safestrap, basically it allow you to install custom recovery (CWM/TWRP) on a separate partition and so is your custom rom, don't want to get into this too much). Hope you got your answer.
Thanks. Thats really what I wanted to know. Do you know if this is something that will most likely forever be permanent or something that a fix or workaround to re-implement that ability back in the future?

Based on history, we never hack the bootloader, the reason we could unlock the bootloader is there a leaks. So I won't hold my breath on this...However, currently we have a work around which called safestrap, an app that use a separate partition to install custom recovery and rom, kind of dual O/S. The negative is it support limited custom rom and cut down the storage space.

I have faith that loki will work for our phone. If it does all we would need to do is lokify our aosp rom after we flash them in safestrap or have a pre edited rom. I think all we need to do is have the right aboot.img or someone who knows more about what to do than myself.
Is there a version of safestrap for the S3? I can only find ones for the s4 and the note 3 for samsung products.

Its in the development section. And just a FYI I was wrong Loki will not work with safestrap unless hash code applies the Loki patch to safestrap. I have a strange feeling Loki exploit is patched for our boot loader but we will see.

Need a little guidance

Hey everyone. I was wondering if some here with a HTC One can point me in the right direction. I am looking to finally take the plunge and permanently root, flash a custom recovery, backup my stock, and install a new custom rom on my Verizon M8.
This is my first HTC device playing with, I have always had Motorola stuff and am pretty familiar with the process on those, but this HTC stuff is still a little blurry. S-on/off, CID, MID, RUUs????
I have been reading these forums for quite a bit and still a little unsure about what the steps would have to be. I am currently on the latest stock VZW temp rooted with the new weeksauce basically just to have tethering via a 3rd party app (Wifi tether router). I actually really, really like the stock Sense 6.0 UI and this phone is pretty much perfect all around.
What I want to do is, permanently root, install TWRP as that's what i've used on Moto and my Sammy Tab, backup my stock system so I can go back, and then install a custom ROM. Can TWRP on this do more than one ROM slot and run dual roms? What if everything gets jacked up and I have to go back to complete out of the box stock? How is that done with HTC? I think with Moto it was like an .FXZ file or something like that and you boot the phone into download mode and just flash that file from the computer and you're back to 100% stock. Same with Samsung using ODIN.
I'm also not sure what ROM I want to try, so I am open to suggestions there too. I would like to maybe try a pretty clean Lollipop ROM with good battery life and very stable. Would that be the GPE?
Thanks for reading and for any help.

First you need s-off/unlocked boot loader to perma root..also there is multi ROM support for this device. An if you want to return to pure stock cause something got messed up then you download the ruu an use fast boot via pc to flash your ruu.zip it will wipe your whole phone an return you to out of the box. if your looking for a sense Lollipop from. Santod has a nice ROM an you can also check out the ROM by andybones is also runs very nice an has themes an mod support. If you like GPE then there is one of those also for our device.
Thanks for the info. So in my reading up on doing this, is the "firewater" method of achieving S-off and root no longer working on this phone with 4.4.4? And also, as I understand it, the Sunshine method of achieving the two may or may not work on 4.4.4 either, kind of a 50/50 shot??? So I guess at this time it might just be worth it to wait until either the new sunshine is released or Verizon pushed the 5.0 update out and see what that is like.

Firewater is dead....sunshine might work you can download the app for free an run it to see if it will work with your device is free too. Then if you want to run sunshine that's when you pay the 25...so I would advice against taking anymore ota till you r able to s-off.

Guys, an absolute noob at Android hacking here, I need help

I really need help to start customizing my Tipo.
I need a very trustworthy, safe one-click-root tool that will not be blocked by Norton and will not brick my phone. I'd be really grateful if anyone could recommend one.
Then, I still do not understand how to install custom recoveries, as it both CWM and TWRP say they do not officially support the Tipo. I need this to flash the stock ROM if my Tipo gets softbricked, right?
I also need to know, if I change my kernel to a ICS-based, Tipo-supporting one, will my phone still work if I retain the stock ROM?
So, which one would I need to change first in order to change the other, change kernel and then ROM or other way around?
If anyone could recommend a (preferably) JB based ROM and kernel that officially support the Tipo or have a many user that have succeeded using, that'd be great.
Would I need to unlock Bootloader for any of this?
:silly:

I have managed to root.
I think I may know how to get CWM.
How do I backup a recovery image of my phone without having a custom recovery?
And I still need recommendations for a JB based ROM and a compatible JB based kernel, please.
