[Q] Linux doesn't recognize OPO as media device (MTP) - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
When I connect my phone via usb to my pc (running Ubuntu 14.04) it isn't mounted as a media device and I can't even connect to it via adb. However, if I chose the option to connect as a camera I can access the DCIM and the Pictures folders and use adb to access the whole device.
My previous phone (Galaxy S3) worked fine as MTP and still does.
Any idea what could be the cause? Do I have to install any special drivers?

[Q] SDK tools question

When at my home PC, I have no problems. When at work, my PC does not see my phone when using sdk tools!
It will read my mass storage, but only after I reboot the PC, once I disconnect from the PC, I have to reboot the PC to be able to see mass storage again.
Any suggestions?

[Q] Computer can't see

Hello everyone:
My problem is not new, I had this problem with other devices as well. I plug in my triumph to my windows7 pc and it sees the phone (as CD drive), and shows the driver install but it won't let me look at the phone files and it doesn't see the SD card. I enabled debugging, Do I have to go into window to do...something? I'm still with 2.2 and I know 2.3 would speed things up a bit. please help, TIA
db.
Debugging shouldn't be the problem here... try restarting (your phone, and if that doesn't work, your computer too)... that solved a very similar problem for me.
Details...
Could you explain the steps you've taken in a little more detail?
For instance:
a) Have you installed the drivers by having Windows "discover" your device? or perhaps you installed drivers you downloaded from the web?
b) Does Windows recognize your device as USB Mass Storage at any time after you connect your phone via USB?
c) Does anything resembling "Removable Disk" appear under My Computer?

P3110 cannot be used as mass storage in win7

A friend of mine got this P3110 running stock 4.1.1; a week of usage, she can copy files from her pc to the tab (mass storage), after a week or so, she can't used it as a mass storage device nor we can have it change thru dropdown change USB options (only MTP and camera are present no Mass Storage option). Question is how this can happen? Anyone has any idea what's going on? USB debugging is off. Installed proper drivers (KIES). But now, always asked for MTP drivers and when windows tried to install mtp drivers, not successful.

Factory reset as u might have deleted some framework files
This device only offers mtp and ptp mode. Msc is not supported. Just read the manual
Sent from my GT-P3110 using xda app-developers app

Well, can't find any option in settings on my stripped down JB with Custom Kernel as of now. But I think these are possible connection types:
MTP (Media Transfer Protocol): for Windows Media Player
PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol): to act like a connected camera
MSC (Mass Storage Connection): to act like connected USB drive
As far I remember the GT-P31xx only supports 1 + 2 - not 3. 1 + 2 have the disadvantage that Android Libraries must be updated before files are visible. My experience with this is not good. The manual (for ICS in German) mentions also 3.) but I cannot recall ever noticing it.
If you want to have fast copy actions, then use an external card reader to write to the sd card and then insert the card. This wirks for sure and is the fastest way.
Also check if the device connects well to another PC - problem may not be the device after all, but the PC.

[Q]how to put device in mass-storage mode

Hello,
I pluged the device to my laptop (win 7 pro 64bit) and have chosen the driver mode, installed the drivers, then i want to access the mass storage mode to transfer the files using file commander, but the only modes are charge, MTP, PTP, driver disk....i cant see the internal and external storage as a disk in any mode. Please how to fix this?
I might be wrong, but I do not think Lollipop supports USB mass storage anymore . You should still be able to transfer files in and out via Windows Explorer using MTP mode. And I actually like that because I no longer have to worry about ejecting the device before unplugging.
Usb Mass Storage (UMS) is no more officially supported since Jelly Bean 4.2.2. Nevertheless we can find some app/mod enabling it (on playstore) but I don't know if or works with 5.0 + and root is needed.

MTP device via USB OTG?

As the title says: Is there a way to connect an MTP device to a Poco X3 via USB OTG? As in the X3 should be the host, the opposite of what happens when you connect in file transfer mode to PC
Mass storage devices (eg. a flash drive, external SSD) work just fine, but MTP devices (eg. another Android phone in file transfer mode, a Nintendo Switch in copy to computer mode) simply don't elicit any response from the X3
My question is, is there a way to get the phone to recognize these, perhaps by means of an app?
(I can root the phone if necessary, but I would rather keep this stock if possible mainly because it's a real pain to set everything up after unlocking the bootloader)
