Qi Charger - Galaxy Note 4 Accessories

Does anyone know or have experience with using the Qi wireless charger with the Otterbox Commuter case? I used to get defender cases but i was going for more of a sleek design. The commuter case is definitely much thinner than the defender. wondering if the wireless charging would work?
If not what if we were to extend the wireless charging pad on the back cover of the phone in between the rubber of the otterbox and the plastic shell?
Any thoughts?

I did however just find this youtube video thinking i might tackle it on the same approach. Only i got a commuter case so the rubber meets the phone first and not the hard plastic body. might need to come up with some ingenuity here.

I use a qi receiver I got on eBay with my commuter and it works fine through the plastic and rubber.

Awesome!
Did you experience any decrease in charge time? I know the fast charge probably can't be touched but as opposed to standard ac charging?
Thanks for the info sir!

To be honest, I charge overnight so I haven't really taken a good look at it, although i charged midday once and it actually was quicker than I expected. These qi receivers usually restrict charging speed but mine is pretty good.

One last question and I'll consider this solved!
Are you using just a plain Jane qi charger from eBay? Like generic?
With the Samsung wireless charging back cover? Thank you sir

Anytime!

So I ended up getting the Samsung wireless charger back cover for the note 4 and it works wonderfully! I had to trim the rubber on the back of the otterbox so it could all fit in the plastic she'll for the computer case. Wireless charging works like a charm! However still to big. For example I can't remove the s pen. The IR eye is half cut off. The mic on the bottom isn't even visible. Any one know of a good case that works with that charging cover?

I'm looking for one of the add on receivers, but I'm worried about the NFC being affected. What brand was yours and does NFC still work? I have seen one with a built in NFC antenna that bypasses the battery antenna, but that was 3x as much as the others.

Qi chargers
I use use one of the receivers that I got on Amazon and it works well. Reviews say it affects NFC slightly but I haven't confirmed this. I do notice that the battery is on one side of the phone considerably more than the Note 3. This means that I have to offset and move the phone around the Qi charger before it actually starts charging. The Note 3 just had to be in the center like my Nexus 5. But the Note 4 sits awkwardly on the side. Anyone know of a large Qi charging pad that has multiple coils that can hold a larger phone like the Nexus 6 or the Note 4?

OK here is what I did with my wireless charging receiver card. I ended up ordering the YooTech wireless receiver from Amazon. Now I was using the Nokia charging stand with my galaxy S5, but because of the size of Note the receiver ended up being off center forcing me to place the phone almost at the edge when charging. I peeled the top sticker from the receiver, which exposed the circuit board and laminated coil and I cut the receiver, splitting it between the circuit and coil. I scraped of the laminate exposing the + and - on each half and connected them with thin wire I got at RadioShack. The length of the wire allowed me to place the actual coil dead center of the phone. So far so good, phone starts charging when placed center on the stand, no interference with NFC and the phone/battery does not heat up at all. Granted wireless charging takes a bit longer since it's I believe 2A for fast charge, 1A for regular wired charging and 700 mA for wireless (at least with my receiver) but I do charge mostly overnight anyways and if I have to I can always plug it in for a quick fast charge if needed.
Cheers, Vitto.

Someone really needs to make the receivers that are offset for our phones, I would defiantly buy one, as would most the people here i think.

Does the Wireless Charging Back Cover Made by Samsung fit within the Otterbox Commuter Series Case? Does it require any force to push into place?

I got the Aukey Qi Charger that I got on amazon for less than 15$. I also have the official Samsung Wireless Charging Back and they both work very well toguether. The good thing about that Aukey is that its a 2 inch diameter circle and you dont have to find the sweet spot as the entire pad is the coil. Works well and output 1amp

No that was my predicament. I had to trim out the black rubber part so it would fit together. Even with that I have a hard time plugging in micro us and I can't get the s pen out. So when I'm just hanging out at home I take the otterbox off. Don't like doing that but until I figure something else out it works. And Yea I'm talking about the commuter case.
For those of you who use those adapters that u slip between the cover and the back of the phone does it make it bulge? So we can still use normal cases? Any input on that would be helpful!

Guess, I'll need to stick to Defender Series some how. I think the Skinomi Techskin is the culprit, its overprotecting my device and adds a slight thickness to my phone thus hard to snap the Defender Series case in.

3rd party Qi wireless receiver

If the mods think this shouldn't have a individual thread, please combine this with the existing thread.
Before I go into details about each receiver, I would like to point out that all third party receiver does produce a slight bulge, whether is does bulge alot or little it's there, the bulge is usually the location of the chipset/IC on the receiver.
If you require a receiver without the bulge go for the samsung OEM cover.
To reduce the thickness and bulge, users can cut or file down certain part of the inside of the cover, you can see the photo below, this part also prevent most of the receiver from positioning direct in the center of the phone, so the receiver is mostly placed toward one side and on the battery.

Brand: Nillkin
Coil Type: PCB copper etched
Chipset/IC: TI
Support QI/NFC
The receiver is specially cut so that it fits inside the battery cover and overcome any parts that sticks out of the cover.
The receiver is made very thin and has very little bulge.
Nillkins claims that this receiver retains the IP67 specification.
Will work with most transmitters, with transmitter that has only one coil and is more sensitive you will have a hard time getting it to charge properly, I couldn't even get this receiver to charge with samsung's new square charger, with the rectangular one, you have to place the phone alittle higher for it to charge.
With a charger that has 3 coils, 7 coils or a moving coil, this receiver works very well.
Updated: Does not work with the following charger, Iffu, new version of the samsung, Nokia, Araree and Powerholic.
May apply to others.
2
Brand: Powerqi
Coil Type: copper strand coil
Chipset/IC: TI
Support QI/NFC
Only just been release about 2 week ago, ultra thin and produce little bulge to the cover, works well with many chargers.
3
Brand: Powerqi
Coil Type: Flexi coil
Chipset/IC: TI
Support QI/NFC
During my testing the receiver works very well, the phone needs to placed a little bit down, as the coils is located further down, it is also claimed and been tested to work with the IP67 specification.
The receiver is ultra thin, and from all of the receiver listed here and one's that I have used, this is the thinnest one to date.
4
Brand: Yijieneng
Coil Type: Flexi coil
Chipset/IC: TI
Support QI/NFC
One of the most known companies in wireless charging, I have recommended this brand for a good few years, they have produced many good products, but this receiver is a fail, it's the thickest receiver in the test, it's also very difficult to place into the phone, it took me many time to get the receiver to work with the stock cover, and only manage to get the cover to close properly, I have tested this with a S view cover, it's fits into the cover very tight, but cannot get the two to work, even when it's suppose to work. This is one of the 2 receiver listed here that suppose to works with a S View cover.
Once you get this receiver to work, there is no problem with this and any other transmitter.
5
Brand: itian/Energy
Coil Type: Flexi coil
Chipset/IC: Unknown
Support QI/NFC
The first receiver on the market for the S5, work well, very thin but does produce alot of heat.
6
Brand: Unknown
Coil Type: Copper strand coil
Chipset/IC: TI
Support QI/NFC
This is the second receiver listed here that can be used with S View cover, this receiver is very similar to the Yijieneng, but it's completely different, and is not made by Yijieneng, it's ultra thin, and works well with all charger that I have used.
7
Brand: Unknown
Coil Type: Flexi coil
Chipset/IC: Unknown
Support QI/NFC
The smallest receiver made for the S5, and does not affect NFC
8
Brand: Unknown
Coil Type: Copper strand coil
Chipset/IC: Unknown
Support QI/NFC
initial test seems alright, quite thin, even when the cover is on, with minimum bulge, not too fussy about what charger is used.
9
Brand: Yijieneng
Coil Type: Copper strand coil
Chipset/IC: TI
Support QI/PMA/NFC
1st third party receiver to support both QI standard (WPC) and PMA (Duracell Powrmat), this receiver also supports the use of the S view cover for wake up and sleep function, anyone after a ultra thin receiver can look elsewhere, this receiver is not thin.
Further testing needs to done to confirm the compactiblity of both standard, although initial testing QI has been tested to work.
A must have receiver if you live in the USA where PMA charging is available in all starbucks cafe and some other cafe, and if qi is used as the main charging standard for you smartphone.
Thanks for the detailed info on receiver.
Can you please let me know what the difference between different coil types?
Which once is better? with respect to thickness, charging speed, heat generation, placement on Qi charger etc.
Thanks.

There isn't a better one, they all have their pro's and con's.
Theoretical flexi coil is consider to be the thinnest one which it is, but it all depend on the manufacture when they decide to use the magnetic shield, also know as flexi magnet that inductive charging is required, which can be very thin or thick, this will decide on the factor on the thickness.
being thin mean it will fit under the phones OEM cover with minimum bulge, but the disadvantage is, flexi coil produces more heat than the other two as it's not as efficient and has more energy loss.
copper strand coil, is the traditional coil with a ferite magnet (mix of stone and metal), and easily get's cracked, but has the less heat as it's much more efficient, but being much thicker, some manufacture has started to use flexi magnet to reduce the thickness.
PCB copper etched in between both, but cost much more to produce, so many manufacture does not use this method, upto now for what I know, nillkin and sandisk is the only manufacture to use this, nillkin being approximate twice the price of many of the available receiver in the market, and sandisk, being 5 times the price.
with all this being said, receiver listed here using the copper coils, are actually the thinner ones see the 2nd and 6th receiver.
from left to right, flexi coil, PCB and copper coil.

I won't go on the price, and it's very hard to comment when I cannot see the actual receiver, there are many good quality one's and many many crap one's.
it's best to indicate which one you require.
I use the last one " Unknown" charges without any problem, not that much heat even after a full night on charger. Cover closes perfectly, integrity of IP67 is kept, IMHO. Bought off Ebay with Qi charger ( 12.95$ ), no trouble finding charge position.

During charging the heat is usually charging between 30-75%, detection is pretty good and has minimum bulge, have you put the phone into water for the IP 67, even if it seems like the receiver is within the rubber gasket seal, it does not mean it will seal the phone from water.

Ok I will do some research and go over ya review again
Do all of these receivers/pads charge the phone to 100% and keep it there? I heard there are some that stop charging at 100% then recharge again when the phone gets to around 90-95%. Is this to do with the receiver or the pad?
Do either of the Powerqi models (or other receivers) block the NFC? And do you know when the pre-production one will be released?
Thanks!

I have tested them, all updated in first post. As for the powerqi pre-production model, not too sure when it's released, I had to beg them to let me have it, they only had one for testing, but i'm sure if it gets released they should be available sometime next month.
today installed absolutely generic "noname" one from China. phone backside heated moderately, as well a pad.
nfc works same as before. Package is bundled - the charger pad 10w + two receivers (blue and black - have no see diff, both works the same).
When placed on the pad, message appeared "wireless charging ... bla-bla" as expected.
Absolutely generic noname.
Copper coil, produce a slight bulge (because of controller board)

Thanks for the information, I know about that receiver, there was no reason for me to purchase it.
I just purchased a new transmitter and it seem like all the receivers list above charges cool to very slightly warm, apart from the nillkins which will not charge.
This transmitter is the only charger I have that does not have much heat, cost me USD 20 after discount, it's under the name a araree, but also has the same product under the name powerholic.
Confirm. $20 pad +receiver. Also make a test with nexus 5. It was hard to find right place before it recognize charger pad. Although s5 fit exactly to the pad

PMA Charging Behavior

I know most are still trying to figure out the Qi vs PMA thing. I have converted to PMA and I am wondering if this is normal. I place my phone on the powermat overnight and wake up to only 96-99% charged. What I have found is the phone fully charges but then will stop itself from charging and drain. When I had a Qi charger on my other phones they stayed topped off. It seems this is a protection mode but I am wondering if it is necessary. My hope is a custom rom can disable this and we can keep out phones topped off on PMA chargers. Anyone else seeing this as well? Thoughts.
unrelated and I'm sorry for the off topic. but I am interested in the PMA charger and just don't have any experience with them. how does it compare to Qi. particularly I am interested in heat generation and charge speed. maybe in relation to USB charging as well as Qi charging

Well, I have seen it compared to VHS vs Betamax and that is the truth. If you are old enough to remember that battle then you understand. If not, I would say it this way, Qi is VHS and PMA is Betamax. Sony and betamax had a much better product but VHS won because more companies jumped on board. I have used Qi charging on my last few phones. Its easy and works well. Overall though, PMA charges faster with higher voltages and I do not find my phone nearly as warm. It also has magnetic centering to keep the phone in the middle of the coil. There are some quirks, like the one I am asking about in this thread. I never had this problem with Qi. Its more of an inconvenience as in the morning, I have to take my phone off the charger and replace it. It will re-engage and charge to full again. I really think this is a protective measure.
This would seem to be a serious issue as well considering this and the lgg2 spend an hour plus at 100%.I really don't want to move to PMA, this may actually be the show stopper thanks for posting
If PMA is better then why are so many against AT&T using it?
I don't give a hoot which is better or not. The effing problem is that there isn't crap for options when it comes to PMA. If my only choice is that flip case, then I go without wireless charging. It was ridiculous of AT&T to go in this direction when NO ONE else supports it. LG didn't even bother to make a charging back for it. That's what bothers me the most. If i had to buy a new PMA charger fine, but give me something to put on my phone.

Stinks you can't just buy a replacement back, but you can remove the charging circuit from the circle case and install it in your original back. It's a tight fit, but that's what I did. Also, it stays topped off at 100%.
No problems with losing charge here. In the morning it's full 100%. Took a few times to find the sweet spot on the powermat but I am happy. First time using wireless charging btw.

It's a tight fit due to the metal disc located in the center. The circle case has an indentation for it where the stock cover doesn't. Had to reposition the bottom part one time so the cover would snap on.
Just took my time. Heated with a hair dryer. Peel a little. Reheat and peel a little more. Rinse and repeat until I had it all the way off. The glue is pretty stubborn.

What king of chargers are you guys using. I have those Duracell Powermat with the iPhone 4 cases AT&T was closing out at $10. Maybe that's my problem. I'm using the same case so it just about has to be that. I'll buy a different one if needed but mine definitely stops charging at 100% and then drains. Another weird behavior is before I had the PMA and used a USB, the phone would alarm over and over when it got to 100% telling me to disconnect the charger. Anyone else see this? I thought this was weird too but I was using a 2.1 wall usb charger and not the stock one supplied in the box. It doesn't do this in my car though.

Ok that's the same one I am using accept it had an iPhone case. Mine definitely quits charging when it hits 100%. Are you sure yours doesn't cut off as well? Even when I am charging the portable battery, the mat will quit charging when it is full. The little light on the bottom of the mat turns off as well showing it is no longer charging. I have 2 of these mats and they both act the same way.

Ok, so was kind of perturbed that AT&T went this route as already have a few Qi chargers that I invested in. Am thinking of still moving forward with the upgrade as it appears the PMA chargers are cheap at the moment. For those that are using the PMA charging, how's the charging rate / how longer does it take to fully charge? Also hows the heat when charging? This is one issue I do have with my Qi chargers in that if I do not place my S4 in the "sweet spot" the phone gets excessively warm.
Also question to americasteam, how's the bulge on the back of the phone now that you have transplanted the PMA coil. Can you still fit the phone into a standard case or is it too big now? If possible would be great if you could post a picture of the side showing the increase in size. I mention this as I went thru this with my S4 and and had to search for a "thin" Qi adapter that would still allow use of case. Most caused to large a bulge and prevented certain cases from fitting. Since there is presently only one PMA Coil available, like to know how well the transplant worked (size wise).
Thanks

Thanks

The case looks like it might be slightly raised where it meets the volume rocker on the volume down side. I have no idea if it was originally like this or if it's caused by the charging coil. Also, I don't use a case so have no idea what effect it would have.

I had grey at first and exchanged it. Didn't like the black and white face in vids and pics, but love it in person. IMO, the white back also has a nicer texture. Especially with the PMA charging coil installed. ?

[HOW-TO] Move receiver coil from OEM Wireless back to stock cover. (LOTS OF PICS)

This is my first how-to thread, please rate and thank if you please.
I saw this mentioned in a previous XDA thread and decided to try it.
I found it pretty easy to do but be patient and have a light touch. This can ruin your accessories or phone, proceed at your own risk!
Let me know if this works for you and feel free to add your techniques and tricks! I will update the OP and add them to the guide.
Tools and supplies:
Flat head screwdriver or two with a thin blade (~3/8" is best don't use a microdriver)
Thin plastic card (insurance cards work well)
OEM Wireless charging back
Stock back cover (Optional if you have a snug case)
OPTIONAL: Spudger Set. (I didn't use mine but it won't hurt.)
OPTIONAL: Hair Dryer or heat gun.
__________________________________________________
v1.1 Added head spreader removal
v1.2 Added heat gun suggestion
v1.3 Added video guide link to OP
v1.4 Added link to non-OEM Receivers
v1.5 Added suggestion to simply not use the stock back at all if you have a snug case.
v1.6 Added advice how to remove the "heat spreader".

Be aware there are are premade third party receiving coils which do not involve hacking apart perfectly good innocent hardware that did nothing to you and probably does not deserve to be treated this way. Several us of us have found that the OEM coil runs cooler and seem perform better but your milage may vary.
Here are some alternatives listed by cnlson:

1. Gently wedge the screwblade in between the covers. Near the top under the headphone jack there is a nice spot.

2. Move the screw driver slowly around the edges twisting it to pry apart the plastic pieces, working from top to bottom. On the bottom edge be careful not to damage the circuit board, just loosen the plastic surrounding it.
3. Repeat the process around the camera and speaker cut outs.
4. At this point you can pull apart the halves.
5. Unstick the edges of the bottom circuit board first. Just loosen the edges don't pop it out all the way. You can use the plastic card or a spudger. (I used the screwdriver here and was just very careful, use at your own risk.)

6. Push the contacts in from the back to give you an edge to start from. From this point on focus on minimizing the bending of the coil sheet. Try to keep it as flat as possible.
7. You can gently bend the entire plastic back around each edge this will make the glue start to unstick.
8. Insert the card under the top contact posts and slowly worry it down unsticking the coil. Again try to not sharply bend the sticker, patience is your friend here.
9. I found it useful to keep bending the plastic and sticking the card in deeper and deeper to keep my progress.
10. When I finished the last bit of glue the sticker popped off suddenly taking the circuit board with it. Glad I loosened that first.
10.5. Optional: Pry the metal tray for the circuit board out of the back cover as well. (Slip screwdriver into the crack and slide it popping out the plastic "rivets".) Place under the board in the next step. I did not do this at first, but after some reflection I think this might be a heat spreader to protect the circuitry from the battery. It has not impacted fit.
GKreamer said:
One think I did differently on the hack- I was careful not to bend the metal heat shield. I then removed it by taking a small x-acto knife and cutting off the plastic heads from the rivets. I then bent the back around all four sides of the metal plate and removed it from the old back. After peeling the adhesive from around the edges I put it under the circuit board and then put the Note 4 back into the case I have.

11. Put the Receiver coil sticker on your phone carefully aligning the contact posts.
12. The stock back closes snugly and securely. I read that some people had to file down the contact posts but that was not the case here.
13. It is now works wonderfully with my Ballistic Urbanite Case*. It is charging in both landscape and portrait.

* - I loooove this case. It is so protective and slim. :good: I literally bought seven different cases. The best ones would never fit around that accursed OEM back and the third party recievers would overheat my phone. The ones that fit were either enormous slabs or under protective. Now that it fits I am such a happy a camper! :victory:

When I had my Nokia 925 I removed the qi coil from the charging cover and imbedded it in the back cover so that it didn't need the case to charge. Worked great for over 6 months while I had the phone and is still working with my friends son who is using it now.
Thanks for the detailed write up.

Unfortunately, the hair dryer trick did not work in my case. They used a LOT of glue and it cured pretty well - I ended up ripping up parts of the second plastic layer in 3 of the heaviest concentration of glue were. The poor cover looks wrecked..
Fortunately - I was able to extract the charging coils without any issues.
Does anyone have any issues with NFC? I am using a UAG TPU case and with the case on, NFC does not work. I'm wondering if it is the distance or if I damaged the NFC portion of the charger....
EDIT: NVM - I took out apart again and reseated everything - NFC is working again. I tried to cut one of the NFC pins - and accidentally snapped one of the pins off.. Everything still appears to work though, so not sure what it was for...
Thanks BhuddaFool for the pictures. (Already clicked on the Thanks button - hint, hint)

A fun way to test NFC would be to find a Credit card that has contact-less payment - Mastercard PayPass for example. Your phone needs to be active and unlocked, once you scan it, you should hear a beep. A fun app to pair with this is, AnyTag NFC Launcher- it will take the ID of the NFC tag and use that as a trigger to perform actions.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anytag.android&hl=en
Otherwise you would need another phone, or actual NFC tags - I eventually ended up buying a few NFC tags and have them at my desk, in my car etc.
I've edited my post - NFC is indeed working - looks like the pins were not in contact correctly before.

I did this mod last weekend. NFC works fine without a case, I have some of the Samsung Techtiles and was able to test and program one.
Question though, I have 2 Q1 chargers; 1-Nokia (at home) and 1-Samsung mini (at work). The Nokia one gives me absolutely no issues at all with charging, but the Samsung one is now really (extremely) particular about placement. It wasn't like that prior to the mod, but now its more likely to flash the amber light than charge. I noticed the non-qi back plate has a very thin copper lining in one part that is covered by a very thin sticker film. Should that be removed? Any one else do this and experience similar issues with the Samsung mini charger?
I am glad it is working for you. FYI: I dug up an NFC chip and tried that app. Nice find and it works great through my Ballistic Urbanite case . I can't wait to setup my Airdock 2 with it. (It just arrived)

Sorry I have a TYLT Vu (work), a Keedox Qi Wireless 3-Coil (home) and a Airdock (car). It works fine portrait and landscape with all of those. It is possible that is more finicky too.
Interesting, I see that sticker you are referring to, I'll take your word that it has copper under there. Browsing Amazon it looks like even the cheap knock off battery doors have that strip too. Maybe it is a NFC antenna?

Nice thanks for the vid, I still think you could have put much more heat in to it, would have made the job easier and safer than heavy prying.
I've done it with a hair dryer also but need to heat it for at least 5 minutes moving the dryer frequently not to isolate one area too long, but anyway great job and good clear vid dude.

not meaning any disrespect for the thread but why wouldn't you just pick up a wireless charging element by itself so you didn't have to worry about breaking it disassembling it?

Also - the majority of the receivers will block NFC for the Note 4 - since Samsung has placed the antenna for NFC onto the battery itself. The official Samsung cover includes a separate NFC antenna.
Another reason for going for the official cover is that it is generally very forgiving in terms of placement - due to the size of the coil. Some of the smaller aftermarket ones require that you place the phone off center or has to be placed just right for charging.
I too have also noticed concerning levels of heat generated with the - admittedly, cheap budget receiver that I purchased online. The second one that you linked from Amazon looks promising though.

I bought the cheapest one for the Galaxy s3 and my wife has used it for charging her S3 for the past year+ and she uses NFC at work all the time (the coke machine uses softcard and they were giving away 50 free $1 purchases a month from feb til december last year) and even though the Qi receiver sits right on top of the battery there was no problem whatsoever with either the charging or the NFC.

My apologies, I missed that line. I know with the one I got for my wife's S3, it gets warmer when it is not placed on the charging pad correctly since it doesn't get enough of a charge to keep up with the outgo.
out of curiosity, does the phone charge very quickly on the Qi charger? could I ask you to charge for an hour on the Qi and an hour plugged in to show the speed? (gsam battery monitor or the graph from the system battery monitor)
I'm curious how fast it actually charges, I assume it doesn't do the quick charge like plugging into the stock charger.

It seems to charge pretty quickly. I think charges about as fast as being plugged into a "normal" adapter but certainly not the blazing speed of the quick charger. I don't think I am going to be able to post any battery graphs.

Exelium UP magnetic qi dock?

Hey all,
I just stumbled across this dock, has anyone given it a try yet? Looks very promising, although I can't find a ton of info about it.
http://www.amazon.com/Exelium-UPM200-Magnetized-Wireless-Mount/dp/B00SY5FBOS
and here's the official site:
http://www.exelium.net/index.php?page=33&ia=1418046573
There's also a receiver card with built in magnets for the Note 4:
http://www.amazon.com/Exelium-UPMSN4-Magnetized-Wireless-Receiver/dp/B00SY5FB7U
If it works well then this looks like it could be the answer to a LOT of people's wireless charging prayers! Any experiences or info would be greatly appreciated!
Exelium up qi dock
Hi
I have seen your comment on this forum. I am working for Exelium and I can tell you more about this concept.
Exelium has developed a concept which allow to combine magnet fixing system and wireless charging system.
For Galaxy note 4 and S5 we have made some patch receiver(wireless and magnet) that you can put easily by opening the back of the mobile and plug it in 2 seconds.
Then you can plug and charge your Galaxy Note 4 on our different stations : Home (wall mount), car (windshield or dashboard mount), office (desk mount).
We can go on our website and watch our videos in our Youtube channel.
I hope that my explanations help you.
In US we are now in amazon, soon in best buy but also b&Hphotovideo
Best regards

Wow, speedy response from the manufacturer, nice! I'd love some more info on how strong the magnets are, I personally am very attached to my S-View cover and would be very interested to know whether the magnets in the Exelium Up will hold the Note 4 even with the S-View flap in the way. Have you done any testing to this effect, or can you comment on whether the Up will work with an S-View cover? I imagine that the same question would apply for anyone using a case as well.
Thanks for the attention!

I know that we have made some tests but I need to check with my designer to give you accurate comment. Of course our concept is working at best without big case or extra thickness. I think that charging is working well but case can reduce a bit the magnet process even if our magnet are good quality.
Good concept, Will it work with a case? How long does it charge a Note 4 (how many percent per hour)
Hello
The performance is about 80% compared to standard lightening cable but as the system is combined with magnet fixing system, you have to consider that you optimize each time the charging process because when you are in your car, you plug and it's charging and same at the office and home!
It works with case but bigger is the case less the performance will be .
Thanks again for all the information, it's nice to see a manufacturer paying attention to user forums like this. One more question, does the receiver patch interfere with NFC, or will NFC still function with it installed? If NFC does remain functional, is it because the patch has the antenna and connections for NFC built into it, or is it just positioned so that it doesn't cover the NFC antenna in the battery? Also I'd still love to hear your designer's opinion on compatibility with the S-View case. Thanks!

On the S5 and note 4 that we have you can not see the bulge to the back, of course if you put from tha back, your finger at the magnet locations you feel them a bit.
For the warranty, we have 2 years warranty

Been interested in getting this for my Galaxy Note 4.
Actually purchased already through Amazon. The only problem is, the universal patch to attach to my phone is apparently backordered. The dock itself (of course) doesn't come with any other means to utilize it. I've tried other metal plates, but of course, the metal plates will block the Qi charging capability, so for the moment, I'm stuck with either being able to mount the phone and not charge it, or being able to charge it, but not mount it.
Just rather annoying so far. Going to try looking in Michael's or some other craft store to see if I can't find my own small metal discs and 3M adhesive to utilize this mount.
The mount should be bundled with the magnets for the back cover. Let us know how you get on.

No, it's plainly stated before ordering and on the box that the magnet for your back cover isn't included.
My issue is wondering why I'd order both, but the mount is in stock, yet the magnets for the back of the phone aren't.
Like I said, for the time being, I'm trying to find small metal discs that might work over the magnet points to get it working.

Since It's been over a week since my Exelium Qi dock has arrived and still no word on whether or not the universal patches for the back of my phone will even be in stock, I went ahead and got a bit creative.
Found 4 metal discs at a local Hobby Lobby in their jewelry section, some white vinyl cut to size and done. One thing of note, I originally attempted to use a metal plate like the ones found in the Scosche magic mount. While the plate works to attach the phone to the dock, it blocks wireless charging.
The dock so far seems to work quite well.
It does not, however, charge faster than (for example) continuously watching Netflix would drain your battery. At best, this would keep the battery from draining as fast, but from most Wireless dock reviews I've found, this seems to be relatively common. It will charge your phone up if you aren't using the phone too heavily. Running Netflix continuously for 2.5 hours, the battery drain was from 100% to approx 86%, so I'd say it's pretty decent.
For the moment, I'm using the 2.4Amp output charger coupled with a regular USB cable. I haven't tried using a fast charging capable USB cable yet however to see if it would charge any better/faster. In my home experiments with a fast charging cable+proper charger, it really won't change the charging output much if at all.
I like the dock design, and of all the available Qi mounts out there, I tend to prefer this idea/design the most. However, this is pretty much 1 of 2 out there that I know of that is a magnetic mount. (AirDock being the only other one out there I'm aware of). The current price on Amazon for this is pretty fair, especially compared to other docks and it's about half the price of the AirDock.
So far, the only real knock/annoyance is getting/finding a proper way to attach the phone to the dock.
I thought I might try AirDock's magnetic stickers to see if this might work in the meantime while waiting for Exelium's magnetic patch.
Sad to say, the AirDock's stickers are horribly inadequate to hold up the weight of a Note 4. I almost wonder if they'd be adequate for any phone as their stickers pretty much amount to what looks like a pre-cut sticker with 4 wafer thin discs of metal in the right places (and I mean, as thin as a sheet of aluminum foil, thin). They do line up perfectly with the Exelium's dock magnets however, so at least I now have a pre-cut template to make my own stickers in the future.
Anyone know what kind of magnets are in the mount?

Not sure I follow? I'm guessing neodymium magnets of some sort. They have a better hold than the average refrigerator or craft magnets I've seen. Just not sure how it matters?
Well I was using the mountek magnetic ngroove snap as a dock with my galaxy s6 without a backplate and it actually held the phone up pretty well not great but good enough, but when I switched to the exelium dock as a mount it doesn't hold as well, and just keeps slipping off. I don't know if the magnets are different or what but the only thing I can think of is that the ngroove snap has a grippy rubber sticker over the magnets and the exelium is just a white plastic cover. I'll probably just end up removing the white plastic cover and replace it with something with more grip.

I don't know if the magnets are different or what but the only thing I can think of is that the ngroove snap has a grippy rubber sticker over the magnets and the exelium is just a white plastic cover. I'll probably just end up removing the white plastic cover and replace it with something with more grip.

Ahh, I experimented with that, and this is the conclusion I came to;
The Mountek (I found a scosche version) magnet uses 4 little neodymium magnets together making a large surface area to create that pull.
Docks like the Exelium UP and (likely) the AirDock2 have to keep the 4 magnets around the edge/perimeter of the dock since the wireless charging coils are right in the center. A big plate like that from the Mountek works pretty nicely on the Exelium, but the problem I found was that the big plate also blocks the wireless charging coil from working.
It's why I took to finding 4 smaller discs to use on each of the 4 magnets around the edges to generate enough pull from the magnets to hold my Note 4 up to the docks.
I have one minor worry about using a magnet that strong: The S-Pen.
The wacom digitizer works by using a low level magnetic field. I put my Note 4 on a PMA wireless pad I have laying around, which actually worked with the wireless charging in the phone (this is sometimes the case, but not always, regarding cross-compatibility between the two standards). However, I made sure to test the S-Pen while it was on the pad, and lo and behold the pen barely recognized in the area near the PMA charging coil., and that was only if I applied SIGNIFICANT pressure.
The reason PMA pads caused this is that the coil also acted as a magnet strong enough to hold the phone in place. It's already known that magnetic cases cause damage to the Wacom digitizer after a few days of exposure, and those a comparatively weak magnets.
My worry is pretty much that if the magnets you're using are strong enough to dock, that they are also strong enough to permanently damage the Wacom digitizer, and make using the S-Pen impossible. Have these docks been extensively tested to make sure this is not the case?

Accessories Wireless car cradle which works with Z Flip 3?

I've collected various wireless car cradles over the years - I like to have my phone mounted on the windscreen and I use it for navigation.
Unfortunately, because of the location of the charging coil in the Z Flip 3 - at the bottom when in portrait mode, rather than halfway up the handset - most of them do not work with this phone :-(
Neither the genuine Samsung (which is otherwise excellent) nor either of my two different iOttie cradles work. I have a Qifull which does seem to work, but is no longer available.
The only cradles which I can find which claim to work with the Z Flip 3 are an iOttie which T-Mobile sell in the USA, and an Olixar sold by MobileFun. Unless you know otherwise...
Has anybody used either of these and can confirm that they actually do work with the Z Flip 3? Bonus points if you can tell me whether they interfere with FM or DAB radio reception!
From what I could find on the pictures of those chinese charging holders, their coils are quite far up as well, so you will probably get quite an inefficient charging.
I solved this for my phone by ordering the Spigen Steadiboost car charger - that one has no bottom clamp and I took advantage of that by simply mounting it upside down to move the coil to a better place.
The next step will be to design and print a bottom clamp which lets the phone rest 15mm below the lower end, measured from the recess the charger top has in the centre (as mentioned, mounted upside down, therefore "top" means "bottom" for me, just in case somebody is confused ;-) ) At this distance, I found I got the maximum current being pulled from the charger while charging the phone so I guess this means the best connection.
While such a clamp is not needed for holding the phone in place at all, that makes it easier to slide the phone into the correct height.
IMHO that one also has the big advantage of working with a simple spring mechanism instead of the unnecessary complicated motor-battery-electronics rubbish for clamping the phone that most of the other chargers have.
I will have to wait for the next summer however to confirm this to work in warmer temperatures.
Edit: I took the opportunity to take the thing apart and silence the springs with a bit of silicone grease - the temperature sensor is placed on top of the coil. Thus, it most likely will not matter in which direction the charger is mounted.
Just in case anybody is thinking of buying the Olixar that I mentioned above, it does not work with the Z Flip 3.
Despite having been told by both Olixar Support and Mobile Fun Support (who, based on the similarities of the replies, may be the same thing?) that it would work, it simply doesn't. (The phone charges on other chargers; the charger works with other phones. But the location of the charging coils on the Flip 3 means that this charger does not work with this phone).
The search continues...
And I've just had an email back from iOttie support saying that they don't currently have any products which support the Z Flip 3.
So it sounds as if I'm looking for something which may not currently exist. Market opportunity for somebody, or too niche for anybody to bother?

Probably the latter. Most people have plugs already installed in the car, but inconveniently placed for that, and wireless charging is notoriously slow. Being a somewhat specific design, that means designing for it intentionally, too. Take all that and throw in that the Fold was the preferred option and most companies won't see the value.
I keep my iPhone 12 in the car for navigation and Spotify, car play is loads better than android auto (I wish Google or Samsung would step up their game in that department) I turn on my Hotspot for the iPhone. It may not be the answer your looking for but it works for me and my z flip can stay closed and charging in the car.
ok so i tried Joyroom JR-ZS248 which finds the coil usually, but it's not working.. now i have to think about what's next. Wireless charging in the car is a must. And no magnets this time, i keep Flip naked, no bulky case.
the phone form factor is fantastic for desktop chargers because the chance of positioning mistake is low. So relieved i dont need to fiddle with it each time.
Let me give you an update. I'm a Qi charging fanatic since S6. 9w-10w is a joke speed, but it is what it is. I've stepped up the game to 15W, then 30W (QC4), then even more with OnePlus, and now i'm back to year 2015 standards. Thanks Samsung.

Anyway all desk Qi chargers work fine except Nillkin Magic Disk 4 which charges but then gets into start / stop loop all night. So i've replaced it with Samsung old classic "Fast" (=10W) Charger EP-PN920 and it works well including 85% mode. Interestingly "Samsung" Note20 didn't work with it. Baseus Jelly works also on 10w.

Now back to car chargers. Have ton of them, and of course i hate the bulky ones. The ugly ones with huge legs. Motorized are sort of ok, but this won't work. I have checked all motorized chargers on the relevant innovative (Aliexpress) market and i'm confident none will work. I loved magnets before. Thin case and ultrathin magnet sticker (3gram) worked well. Such chargers are least ugly. But I don't want magnets on Flip. After a quick magnet test, i found the phenomenal Floveme charger, which charged all my flagships in last years, using 4 tiny magnets, works with Flip and it does so WITHOUT magnetic sticker! So this is fantastic news, i can keep my ZFlip shiny without a case. I did a car bounce test, and it holds confidently. Thou of course it may drop from time to time, that's what magnets do.
tl;dr ZFlip, due to design, has 4 magnets, matching Floveme® 4 point no interference design.

Confirm this works with Z flip 3. Charges when bottom edge of phone lined up with lower end of side clamp. Can get warm, but not too much so far. Works with Official Samsung leather case
I always use a magnetic charger on the vent. and put the metal ring on my phone case.
mine might be a bit overkill but... i have a laser cutter/engraver. so each case i get I burn out about .5mm of the case for the metallic ring to stick to the case and stay nearly flush.
if you are using it in landscape mode it won't work..
I had the same issue with QI car chargers with my Z Flip 3. I tried 5 different ones, mostly with no luck because most of them just have one coil.
Here are some of of the few that will work:
This one has two coils, hint from a german forum, didn't test myself:

This one I am using finally, working flawlessly with the Z Flip 3, even the fast QI charging mode works fine:

The last one is also available internationally, not just in Germany. Try search "Hama FC-10" on Google or your favourite online shop.
It looks as if Samsung have finally released their own (EP-H5300CBEGUS) wireless car charger for the Flip 3 - although it is currently out of stock. (I know that some of the photos show the Fold, but if scroll through them they also show a Flip 3).

There is also this , which has 2 coils and claims to work with the Flip 3:

update: Floveme charger didn't drop the phone once. You just slap it there like on the picture, no effort, no waiting for unreliable motors (i do have such as well, annoying), no magnetic stickers needed:

I'm having trouble location this charger. Perhaps it is no longer available. I'm interested in it both for a Flip3 and a Note20Ultra. Can you comment on whether it will working with the Note20Ultra without a magnetic sticker (I don't like stickers, either). I'm in the U.S.

i use it with both phones mentioned. Only ZFlip will work without mangetic sticker, because its got the compatible magnets preinstalled. That makes me loyal to ZFlip series even more as it keep its fantastic weight as it is, and not using the case The product is available, the sticker is included, and it goes behind the case, and is super thin. Used the sticker with all Qi phones recently.
