Don't use toolkits.

Bootloop
So I followed all of the instructions up to and including "Unlocking", and now it's stuck with the little android updating video with the "Android" and the 4D rotating thing in it's belly.
I've read that it can take "longer than expected" but it's been around 12 hours.
Anything I can do? Don't fancy having a brick.

How about shutting it down, loading fastboot and re-installing 5.0?

Can this be done using the toolkit? Or should I be scanning the forums for another way to do this?
I've done a few searches but I'm stabbing in the dark so can't refine my search to find the threads I need...
Also, if the info helps I was unlocking for 4.4.4 to be able to flash a stock image. I haven't loaded a new ROM on the phone yet. Haven't even got a custom recovery. Have only unlocked - the toolkit said it worked and the nothing.
EDIT - just saw the CMD button in the advanced settings.

So I've gone into fastboot to try and wipe the cache to start again and it keeps stalling on erasing the data...
Which is what it also stalled on after unlocking through the tool.
It's been going for about 20 minutes now.... Should it really be taking this long?

You know you could just use the 5.0 or 4.4.4 image to flash itself. If your drivers are OK, go into fastboot, connect the phone, unzip the image, and run flash-all.bat
This method was successful for me as other flashing tools failed. To see if the script is stuck, watch the very bottom of your phone screen. It should be saying what's happening just below the device info. For example, if the script is saying "sending xxx", the screen should be saying "downloading..." or if the script says "writing xxx" the screen should say "writing..." and when the script says "erasing xxx" the phone should say "erasing..."
After each command the script should say OKAY. If the script keeps waiting for a command to finish (let's say "erasing xxx") but the "erasing..." disappears from the bottom of the phone screen, that probably means that the script is stuck...
HOWEVER, the original script included in the official image NEVER had this problem for me, so it should be OK. Good luck!
BTW, I am suggesting this because this process AUTOMATICALLY wipes data from your phone. Which is what you were trying to do. If somehow it doesn't, when the device loads, do a wipe data/factory reset.

Problem updating NRT files
Hello.
Since Nexus Root Toolkit v. 1.8.0 I have problems in the start sequence (cheking for new files). I tried to disable my software firewall but the problem persists. In previous versions all was working fine.
Any solution? Thanks!

This is definitely a firewall issue. You're not disabling the firewall correctly. Maybe integrated firewall in antivirus programs like Symantec Endpoint?

I have the same firewall (Kerio 2.15) and antivirus (ESET NOD32 V6 without firewall) software before this issue. No changes in my system in this time, WinXP SP3 with all
patches. I tried to deactivate firewall and antivirus with no solution. The integrated XP firewall is disabled too.
Tomorrow I will try with and old version of NRT (previous to 1.8.0) to check if it works.

Well, since no-one reported such a problem and I can personally guarantee that the toolkit is working fine, it is an issue on your end. Can you try another computer with the latest version? Maybe your ISP doesn't allow connections with that server?

Big Thank you
I feel such a lame to have less than 10 posts, but I wanted to thank you WugFresh! Thank you very much, great job! Successfully flashed and rooted both n7 and n5 today, huray!

Memory Loss
Used this toolkit to install Lollipop on my 32Gb Nexus yesterday morning with no problems at all. Very smooth operation. Phone has been working fine all day and still is. No real problems.
However, about an hour ago thought I would sit and have a root around in the settings to see what's new etc. and hit the storage option, which tells me I have total storage space of 12.65GB with 8.62GB available. Where did the rest go and how do I get it back? I suppose I have got to go back, wipe the phone and start all over again? I hope not.
Any advice please.

Please read here in the developer Google+ page. Seems to be the updater had some problems in past versions of the NRT:
https://plus.google.com/u/0/113329792100896065459/posts/FUohFJWJHzt
Now I've downloaded the new 1.9.6 version and the error is yet here. I've tried in my laptop (Windows7 with the same ESET NOD32 antivirus) and all works fine. I've made a backup of my XP computer, then uninstalled the Kerio firewall and the problem persists. I've recovered an old backup of my system (early 2014, when I purchased my Nexus5) and all works fine again with NRT version 1.8.0. If I don't update the main program at the request window, the updater works for the other related files (TRWP Recovery, SuperSU...).
Maybe the new updater has a problem only under Windows XP?
Thanks!

I was using 1.9.4 and everything was working just fine. I have already read about the updater fix in 1.9.6 but I didn't notice anything because there was nothing wrong in the first place with me. Keep in mind that 1.9.7 is out that has more fixes with the updater. Try it out to see if anything changes...

Same problem with 1.9.7

[Q] How to Update to 2.2.20.a955 with Root

Hi all,
I am kind of new to the whole Android scene. I need a little help updating my phone. I recently rooted it on 2.2.19.a955. I uninstalled several stock apps, 3G Wifi Hotspot, the Amazon stuff, and something else. I was able to reinstall everything but the 3G Wifi Hotspot. Can't seem to find an apk or recover it or anything.
When I tried to update, it gives me an error saying that it is unable to update.
I am not sure what it is. I think the missing apps or the root is preventing me from updating.
Please help!
Thanks.
-Kevin
Im having the same issue
I also removed some of the bloat and when my OTA update failed I reinstalled all of it from the system dump found in another thread on this forum (it won't let me post a link). I checked all my permissions and made sure they were 644 but my update is still failing on Mynet.apk. I have checked it; it is there and its permissions are 644. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.

You could always just flash back to the stock system with the .sbf released in "The Bomb" you probably used to root. Once you do that youve lost root but back to stock then do the OTA update, re-root, and also have your bloat back... Its a little lengthy but Google and your sd card have most everything backed up for you anyway.

Still having trouble figuring out how to install mynet.apk. I downloaded the file, but I am unsure what to do now.
You have to use adb to install system apps. So, something like:
- put Mynet.apk in your sdk tools folder
- Open command prompt
- cd c:/wherever-your-sdk-tools-folder-is
- adb devices (to verify the connection)
- adb remount
- adb push Mynet.apk /system/app/Mynet.apk
- adb remount
As a note, I updated to 2.2.20 with root but without removing apps.
If you do use the snf from The Bomb, what is that other file out of curiosity?
Thanks Karnovaran.
Is there anything I need to do with the opek file? I followed your steps generally and I am still not getting anything.
So... I followed your directions. I put Mynet.apk in the folder. Ran ADB, copied the file to the sdcard. Mounted. Ran rageagainstthecage. Copied the Mynet.apk to the apps folder on the system. Same with the odex file, and remounted, and exited, but still nothing...
I was able to flash my phone using the files from the RootzWiki bomb. Flashed it successfully. Now it doesn't have a connection to the Verizon network. No data service. Not sure about phone service though.

You probably need to dial *22899 from your phone before it will get back on the Verizon network.
Does the ota contain something that is really needed. I am debating if I want to unroot just for the ota. Hopefully some one figure away to give us an update that remains rooted.

DROID 2 Receiving Minor Update, Now Allows for User Initiation
On 08.21.10, In News, by Kellex
Share3
If you own a Droid 2, you should be receiving a minor update over the next couple of days and in fact, there is a pretty good chance that you have already been prompted to install it. The update, although minor, does fix a couple of things which will enhance your D2 experience…
Improvements:
+ Enabled text and picture message scrolling.
+ Streamlined set up of Visual Voice Mail feature.
+ Improved contact sync with Corporate Exchange categories
and groups.
+ View accurate contact pictures when reviewing Recent Call Log.
On a related note, it looks like Verizon may be allowing user initiated updates for their new Droid family member. If you check out their update installation instructions, there are now 2 types of software loading: user initiated and server initiated. We also just received this shot which shows that manual updates could start as early as last night, and OTA server initiated updates will start on the 24th if users have not already gone through the process…
After the update you will be running version 2.2.20.en.us.
Via: Verizon Wireless
Cheers Mitch and Shawn!
2.2.20 is root-able, so if you really want it you can do the sbf flash and grab the update before rooting. I don't think we'll be seeing any custom updates for the D2. Let's just thank our lucky stars the sbf showed up.

Darn, wish I knew that before I factory resetted my phone. Do you know this for a fact?
Yes a factory reset is necessary...I just flashed my phone this morning with the sbf and I connected to verizon network but it would not connect to any data connection 3g or 1x, nothing so a factory reset took place and it works almost better than before for some reason lol..my internet connection seems to be more stable and reception is a little better and I've done* 22899 before I rooted and flashed back and this time around its just working better idk..but back to the topic at hand if u* 22899 it will connect you to verizon network but no 3g or anything

Did you try *228? Maybe might have been a better way to go. But thank you for trying.
If you can't update or anything flash an sbf. Isn't hard.
If you are rooted and need to sbf, I used the droid bootstrap recovery to wipe my cache and data, then flashed the sbf from the bootloader (turn the phone all the way off, and hold the up arrow as you power on). Made it a lot easier, and fixed all the errors I was having

How do I fix this? Received the Mango ISV>>Final Update and Cleanup, but my phone fails on step 7/10 (Creating Backup) and reboots, telling me it's failed. Also, I can no longer set up wireless sync.
Things I've tried:

Tried update on Windows 8 installaton
RESET MY PHONE - yeah didn't work
Any other suggestions? This is killing me. There's no solutions elsewhere.

sorry to hear that. I've found a link that doesn't look so good. I know it's from somebody who tried to update to NoDo but apparently he tried all the things you tried and ended up exchanging the phone. A little further down that same thread somebody says he was lucky when flashing the phone with an original rom found here on xda.
good luck

Stuck on lockscreen - androidui has stopped

Moto G 16GB, bought off Amazon.co.uk. Rooted and flashed 4.4.2 before it was pushed to the device (I think it was an image off US version, found it in these forums back when I got the phone). I've been getting a prompt to install some Motorola US update for a few weeks, it pops up every now and then, has gone away when I tapped "No, thanks" option. All was fine until this morning...this is a really weird problem.
I don't know if the phone updated itself overnight, but when I dismissed the alarm this morning I couldn't get past the lockscreen. I put in my lock code and the phone had the stock wallpaper, then cycled to black background, then back to stock wallpaper and then I got a pop up saying "Unfortunately, the process com.android.systemui has stopped." and I was bumped back to the PIN lockscreen. Tried again, same thing. Now it doesn't even say anything about androidui, just cycles between black background and stock wallpaper and kicks me out.
Tried hooking it up to a PC and Mac, but neither recognized it and the phone appeared to be just charging. Power cycled it a dozen times by holding down the power button for about 6 seconds and I always end up with the same problem of not getting past the lockscreen. Every time I boot the phone now it says "Android is upgrading... Optimizing app 1 of 1". This is why I thought maybe I was pushed some incompatible US update?
Underneath it all the phone works fine, got the alarm this morning, received an SMS, answered a phone call. I can even get to the camera from the lockscreen. Is there any other options besides complete wipe and starting from the beginning again?
Probably OT, but I've always had trouble with the launcher quitting, no matter what launcher I'm using, on Moto G and the previous GNex.
Any help is appreciated, I'm bummed.
Hi,
i've today the same, exactly the same problem. It's strange, because i can't reset my phone to factory default, i went to the recovery menu, then "factory", but it only rebooted...
My "solution":
I reinstalled the original firmware:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219
Then all works fine.. No matter why this error occurs.. an automatic firmware update? ..i don't know...
the exact same thing happened to me today out of nowhere and i'm about to leave on a trip, i'm so angry!
Jeez...well, looks like I'm not the only one. WTF happened? I left on a weekend trip too and I'm P.O.'d. I haven't been too religious with my backups either, that's why I was trying to find a way to back things up before wiping it all, but it looks like I'm out of luck. Guess a full wipe is in order.
hmmm i'm a complete dufus when it requires ADB, i've followed the procedures at the link but everytime i try to enter an input cmd says "mfastboot is not a recognized command"

Take a look:
c) If the firmware file you downloaded is a .xml.zip file then download Motorola Fastboot mfastboot-v2.zip (attached to this post) and extract the .exe into the same folder as the stock firmware files (the same folder as the .bin and .img files). If your firmware is a .tar.gz file then skip this step.
I'm debating if I should go ahead and restore the firmware OR wait for Motorola to right their wrongs!

I guess It's the problem of flipboard app!
My father's phone is also experiencing this issue, I can't even reset the phone to factory settings.
This occurred when I was also updating the flipboard app... seriously I'll have to RMA this...
----------------------
So I also have an issue where when you unlock the screen, it just locks back up (no android dialogue saying that com.android.systemui has crashed, but the same result).
I'm also unable to go into bootloader -> Recovery to factory reset the phone.
I stupidly tried to uninstall the flipboard app and reinstall it and it killed the phone... it's now stuck and quite annoying.
I'm 99% sure it's Flipboard.
Looks like others are having issues with Flipboard too
http://forums.androidcentral.com/moto-g/391289-something-seriously-wrong-my-moto-g.html
----------------
I solved the issue by following the instructions here:
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_answer_detail/a_id/97329/p/30,6720,9050
how could a flipboard update screw android so badly? what a strange day
edit: they seemed to have pulled the update back or fixed it though, during my restore flipboard installed without issues
Holy S*** I'm in the same situation. It's definitely the Flipboard update that caused everything. Support just acknowledged me but never gave me any solution. I'm running ART and I think that was contributing the problem. It's terrifying knowing how a single app can completely ruin your phone!!
Anyway guys, is there anyway I can save my pics and stuff before I wipe my data?
Good detective work, I now remember updating the Flipboard app w/ bunch of others as well when things were still all good. Could this be remedied if Flipboard would manage to push a working update? I really don't wanna wipe everything, and I'm not sure I can.
Word from Flipboard (via Twitter):
"Flipboard does not support the experimental OS ART at this time."

Recovered from boot loop but constant crashes with older ROM

I am helping a friend to get his One Plus One 64GB to work again after an OTA update broke it.
Initial Problem
Two days ago she started an OTA update which made the phone reboot constantly before even android started. Basically it showed the logo for about 6s then vibrated and restarted again. I later found /o/Android/data/com.cyngn.fota/cache/cm-12.0-YNG1TAS17L-bacon-signed.zip so I assume that this was what was installed.
The phone is completely untouched otherwise. She has no computer knowledge whatsoever and says she didn't give it to anyone.
My attempt
I was able to install cm-11.0-XNPH33R-bacon-signed.zip and cm-11.0-XNPH22R-bacon-signed.zip via sideloading. The phone started ok but was crashing all the time. I am not able to get into settings to activate developer settings (adb) because the crash notifications hinder navigation and after about 10s the whole gui crashes and I see the black screen with the hexagon loading logo. The latter firmware is worse meaning it crashes at a higher frequency.
The Problem
She didn't expect any problems and does not have a backup of her data. Thus I can't do a factory reset or use fastboot.
Question
Did I use the wrong ROM? There seem to be many variants. I haven't found any information which explains the differences.
Could I maybe flash a minimal ROM that would not crash to backup the data and than do a factory reset?
Is there any way to activate adb access without having to navigate to settings?
I've experienced your issues as well when helping another friend out, try using a newer version of cm11s, something like 44S /44R (i dont remember what it is) or 05Q, those should not have the issue and everything should work fine
Jst flash a newer modem in recovery

The problem here is that you flashed an older build, going backwards like that is what's causing the crashes. Grab the latest build from here:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347802356
Flash that and hopefully you'll be ok.

That won't help, flashing an older build than what was previously installed without wiping properly will cause problems.

Most likely pure coincidence.
Thanks your reply!

Actually this is what I did in the very first beginning but I encountered the same rebooting symptoms like after the OTA update. Since it didn't seem to change anything I didn't mention it. I used cm-12.1-YOG4PAS1N0-bacon-signed.
Any other ideas? I am about to unlock it with fastboot but really would prefer not to delete all user data.

I have the newer Model LGL16C/4.4.2/Baseband version M8610B-AAAANAZM-1.0.6060/Kernel version 3.4.0+/Build KOT49I.L16CV11a/Software version L16CV11a/"Lucky". Service provider is Tracfone, aka Crapfone. Attempts to root with Kingroot as well as Kingoroot failed, including several apps which claim to root your phone. I paid less than $10 US dollars for this phone and rooting it isn't high on my priority list, however rooting the damn thing has presented a bit of a challenge.
A working guide to rooting this phone would be great.

Hey so i spent forever trying ro find a root that would work on this. Or a custom ROM anything really. Try going into McAfee Security, setting up an account, go to settings and disable the lock down device option. That was the problem for me at least McAfee was blocking any root from installing. From there i rooted my lucky with kingroot one click root. Hope this helps!
The Easiest Way To Root Your LG Lucky Without a PC
Easy way to install SuperSU on your LG Lucky
Just follow directions
Use KingRoot 4.5.0 app - google KingRoot apk all versions. Download and install apk.
Google replace kingroot with supersu. There will be a few sites popup, Mediafire is where the original .zip file is hosted. You can even search "how to replace/remove kingroot with supersu" here on XDA for more info.
Once you have downloaded the .zip file be sure to extract it to your INTERNAL sd, the script in the zip will not work from your external sd.
Open the extracted file and copy the mrw file to the internal storage, the path should look like /storage/emulated/0/mrw.
Now go to the play store, download and install Terminal Emulator. I use the one by Jack Palevich as it is only 551kb and easy to use.
Open the terminal emulator and type "su" in order to grant super user permission to the emulator,
On the next line type "/system/bin/sh - /storage/emulated/0/mrw/root.sh" and press enter.
Now the script will run and open up SuperSU automatically. Install binary when prompted with the "normal" option. Choose yes when it asks if you want to delete other superuser apps. (this removes kingroot).
Before rebooting phone, go into the settings of SuperSU and enable pro mode, change icon if you wish, enable survival mode, enable su during boot. I think you have to restart app at this point, can't remember as I did this months ago. Then restart the SuperSU app, go back into settings to Install SuperSU into system. Reboot phone,
When phone reboots, this is when Kingroot is finally uninstalled. Your phone will still be rooted with SuperSU. At this point you may wish to update SuperSU as this is version 2.46 and the newest version is 2.71 Beta. You can get the newest version of SuperSU from the thread here on XDA.
(thanks MrWolf for the script to make the change and thank you Chainfire for SuperSU, FlashFire, CF.lumen, etc...)
LGL-16C successfully (so far) rooted using Kingoroot.exe (latest version). Had to change from mtp to camera on USB then was recognized. Have SuperSU 2.72, SuperSU Pro, BusyBox Pro, and Xposed installed with Xblast and Lucky Patcher running. No custom recovery or roms available and I have searched hi and lo. Was a Net10 $15 phone with nothing to lose, so...will try more stuff out another day and post again.

Until any source is made there will be no recovery or ROM and tbh I don't have the time to dig into it currently.. The positive with rooting though is removing the bloat

Hi. Could you tell me how you installed supersu after rooting with kingroot? Thanks
Well I have root and supersu installed but it won't update binary. Any help out there? Thanks
Hey everybody. I did it!! Just root with kingroot 4.5 and replace kinguser with super sume. Worked great. All kingroot stuff is gone!! Ive rebooted 3 times to make sure and all is good.
Well if anyone is interested in looking at the source code, lg support has downloads available for nearly every phone they've ever made.
http://opensource.lge.com/osList/list?m=Mc001&s=Sc002
The file for the LGL16C is on page 2. Every thing seems to be listed alphabetically so it's easy to locate.
I still have my lucky and actually use it often although I no longer have it activated.
@ cecnwv,
Thanks for the link. Using Ares 11 and got "IP banned for 6 hours, try again later" after dbl tppng yellow icon. I did something wrong. Not at my PC. (unfortunately)
Thanks for any enlightenment,
michaeltheclyde
Two 10a LGL16C Tracfones, one free (recon from Tf) and one new $14.95 @ eBay from Best Buy, rooted with everything that has Google in the name frozen (TB) but no image to restore. (twrp)
Has anyone made a complete backup of their system apps using Titanium Backup? Being that one can't use fastboot/download mode (this phone has it locked out and a special USB cable is required) so my backup options were limited. I thought I did a full backup with Titanium Backup, but apparently lost it as I only found a small partial one on my PC.
Issue is I had uninstalled some bloatware and integrated updates for a few apps. But after factory resetting the phone it is behaving a bit odd. The notification bar doesn't really work anymore (apps still able to use sound/vibration to make a notification, but nothing appears in the notification bar) and I am unable to call the phone because it never rings and it immediately goes to voice mail. So the phone app is borked too.
Plus soft button to the right of the home button (I forget what it's called) doesn't bring up the app history anymore so I can't close background apps. (the volume buttons also don't really do anything anymore. Normally using them causes the volume bar for ringtone to appear and if using a media app, the volume bar for media audio comes up instead. But now nothing happens).
The phone is in a pretty broken state and even doing app updates from Play Store doesn't work anymore. Was gonna try and look around if someone has some app/data backup of the system apps installed. This is a TracFone branded phone and is currently running Android 4.4.2 (Kernel version 3.4.0+). Which is the last Android update they made for this phone.
Perhaps there's a single service/app that is responsible for notifications/volume bar that is borked. But I have no idea which system app is broken so a full app restore is my next best option.
The first thing wrong I noticed after resetting it was that the intial setup screen would return everytime I rebooted the phone. (only way i could get that to stop was freezing it in Titanium Backup). So maybe related to that app somehow. I don't recall ever uninstalling/merging update data for that perticular app though so it's probably a side effect of a different app going haywire.
EDIT:
Ok looks like I resolved the issue. I just removed the LGStartupWizard.apk then did a factory reset via Volume Down+Power button combo. It boots straight to home menu now and everything works. I guess the LG setup wizard thing got borked somehow. No more setup wizard but verious things like google account and whatnot can be configured manually via settings so no real loss.
All the missing things like the app history button, lock screen, notification bar, etc are now working as a result of resetting after removing LGSetupWizard.apk.

Awesome, this worked for me too, though the issue wasn't exactly the same. When I got the phone it had already been rooted with Kingo at some point and I noticed after resetting it that I had similar problems (it may have had the issues before the factory reset too, I just didn't notice one way or the other). Anyway, I was getting slightly different misbehavior. No recents key, yes, but also no response from the Home key. Pull-down notifications bar was mostly working, but with no visible notifications and I couldn't press the Setup "gear" in top right. My volume buttons and Play Store were fine, though, but I'd noticed that when I tried further factory resets (from the menu, not via hard reset) that it wasn't "really" resetting, as any downloaded files/etc. remained on the phone. I'd tried freezing LGSetupWizard already, but as you noted, that doesn't fix it for whatever reason. Deleting altogether does. Yay. I do wonder what the hell is happening during the root or reset that triggers this problem, though. It behaves as if Setup Wizard was just never completed, so you remain "locked out" of most of the same functions that are unavailable during setup normally. Oh well.
Anyway, as old ten-dollars-or-less type phones go, this isn't the worst I've ever used by a long shot. Heck, it's arguably better than a few other slightly bigger/newer/pricier crap-phones out there! (Looking at you, ZTE Legacy/Quest...) FWIW, I had "ripped" all of the APKs from /system/app and /priv-app for some reason back when I first got this thing, so if they'd be of use to anyone I'll be happy to upload all or individual files. Hell, if anyone can tell me how to do a full ROM dump I'd be happy to do that too, because there's definitely still no official stock image available online that I could find a trace of. (Granted, I don't know if there'd be any way to utilize a non-official backup image anyway or turn it into a flashable KDZ, but that's not my point...)
Thank you, I got my lucky rooted! I'm wondering if anyone ever found any custom ROMs or recoveries for this device. It seems like this was never popular for any of that, but thought I'd ask. Thanks.
