[Q] Not rooted, running Lollipop 5.0 - Retrieve Wifi passwords - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It would be really useful to me to retrieve a Wifi password I was given tonight, but did not write down as I entered it into my phone immediately.
I want to wipe my phone and go back to 4.4 for now but before I do I must extract this wifi password. I believe it's saved with google using the backup feature in 5.0.
I've tried via USB debugging looking in /data/misc/wifi but permission is denied.
So, without wiping data what's the easiest solution here? Unlocking boot loader would surely wipe the wifi password? Without unlocking, I can't root and therefore I can't do anything
What about this write Wifi to NFC thing in 5.0? I tried to do this just now but am not in range of the network and the option appears to have disappeared!

umm
Maybe ask the owner of the wifi you're attempting to hack into for a password?

[Q] How do I safely reset my rooted phone?

Alright, I have a somewhat unique problem, so bear with me. I have a Oneplus One that I rooted and then tried to encrypt (under Settings > Security). What I didn't know before encrypting was that there is a bug where Wi-Fi won't turn on. The only way to get my Wi-Fi back is to undo the encryption on my phone (i.e. reset it).
My first question is, can I reset and keep root (and, if so, how)?
Failing that, my second question is, how do I reset my rooted phone safely so it won't get stuck in a boot loop or, worse, get bricked?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time and effort.
You can't keep root through a full reset, but that should really be of no concern because rooting the device is as simple as flashing a SuperSU zip again. As far as the encryption goes though I'm not sure, I've never bothered with it because it's a waste of time, hopefully someone else can chime in about that part.

How do you check/verify if your phone is encrypted

Hello all,
My phone (Doogee DG700) with Android 5.0 Lollipop has gotten very slow over time and I suspect encryption. It doesn't have anything about encryption in the security settings (Cannot decrypt phone from there) however I know it is encrypted. I read that a factory reset from the Bakcup & Restore menu will remove the encryption, but I have no idea if that actually worked or not with my specific phone.
I tried searching on Google for a few days now on methods to check if a phone is encrypted via adb or any other methods, but any google search about "how to check if phone is encrypted" leads to "How to encrypt your phone" results.
Even if this is not what's causing the major slowdowns, it is still slowing down my phone and I don't need it as I don't lock my screen anwyays.
Anybody knows anything about that?
By default encryption is enabled on Lollipop so if you didn't do any advenced changes, the cahnces are, it's still on.
I did the steps to decrypt, that's why I need a way to verify if it worked. Also, I believe encryption is not enabled by default on Lollipop:

Possible to bypass/change pin/pattern AT restart?

Hello, I hope it's the right part of XDA to post my thread as I have serious issues here.
Got my HTC 10 (with Android 6)back from repair today and restored my backup.
But dumb me it seems as if i set a password/patern whatever and i can't remember it.
So after a restart i can't unlock my phone cause it's asking for the code (and won't let unlock only with fingerprint) and i can't remember.
All combination that i would have used are wrong and now i got a working phone back again (after almost 2 month of repairing) and can't unlock it.
Is there any way of bypassing/ignoring the restart password or is it possible to only unlock it again with the fingerprint that is stored?
As i don't know what i should do if i don't get my phone unlocked
I tried to factory reset it andxthat worked but all my apps and data is gone as google seems to only restore some apps and almost no data of the apps.
So i set it up as a new device and only restored /data but immediately after reboot I was asked to put in the forgotten password.
So is there anyway of bypassing the pin/pattern after restart and only unlock the device with the fingerprint that is stored. And if not, is there any way of being able to use my /data after a factory reset again?
Kind regards

Recovering from bootloop help

Gday,
Ive been using my xz premium for about a year and recently it started retsrating randomly a couple of times but never caused me any issues, the other night i was on the phone and it was woring fine then 5 minutes later went to make a phonecall but on trying to unlock it, it restarted and now is stuck in a bootloop, it did get to the password screen once but i was unable to enter the correct password as i usually have a pin code and i restarted to see if i could select password reset or similar but of course it just went back to bootloop.
Now i understand that im in a pretty bad poaition to beable to recovwr data as i dont believe i ever rooted the phone. But also the two factor authentication app, without that i dont believe i can get into some websites to add the 2fa to anither device.
So my question is, is there any company that would beable to either fix the bootloop without data removal and i could get access to my 2fa and my data or at the very least someone who can recover the data from it ? Thanks dor any help you guus can offer.

If the phone's bootloader hasn't been unlocked you may be able to do a software repair using Sony Companion, but not sure as you're in a bootloop situation. If you have enabled developer options you can update the firmware using Sony's Emma without erasing user data. As for your 2fa app, install it on the next device and your info should come over when you log in on the new device

Thanks for the help Bob,
I have been able to get the phone to connect to sonys companion software but did not go ahead with the repair as it states that all data will be deleted, and thats what i have been reading online, is this correct ?
I think i may of enabled developer options, and i just downloaded the Emma software but am unable to login without my account been activated and cannot find access to the customization.ini file that looks like people use to use to get in without a login. Is there any way to get into the Emma software ?
appreciate the help.
Ok so i managed to get into the Emma software, however it said my phone has a locked boot loader, so i guess now the only option is if the sony companion tool can do a repair without erasing data ?
If Companion sees your device you can back up data and reinstall it after repair. I've never done this with Companion as my phones are unlocked and rooted. The few times I've tried to back up and restore (not with Companion) it never really restored the the way I thought it would. If your music and pics/vids are on the sd card, that stuff is safe. I usually just resign myself to setting up the phone and reinstall apps. But give back and restore on Companion a try. What kind of data are you worried about losing?

default decryption password Oneplus8? I never set up lock

I unlocked the bootloader and was hoping I might be able to backup the user data (by partitions) with TWRP to attempt file recovery but it is encrypted. I never set a Pin/Pass/Pattern lock on the OP8 before doing the oem unlock.
Does oneplus have a default encryption password?
I know what you mean. I've run into that issue before. I am not sure if it is fixed yet, but technically there is no official TWRP for our OnePlus8. I did backup my partitions with one of them floating around but with that one, including another phone back in the day, I am able to backup but when trying to restore, it always gave me errors doing so. Not sure others experiences but as far as I know, there is no default encryption password.
You can try setting a pin in the security settings of your phone and going back to TWRP and seeing if the pin will take at that section.
Thanks for the reply.
I had luckily backed up the files I thought I had lost so it was moot anyway. I
