Not sure. But don't know why you would want to. Can break root and block all root and boot loader unlock exploits.

We wait for the devs to check the updates for safety and then flash them. Have never taken an OTA in years. I like root and unlock. Don't want to be stuck stock.

I'm pretty sure you will lose root, so is that worth it to you? Or would you rather wait till all the devs are using the g7 base? Some are already on the G7 base right now.

Is that all that will happen? Or is there a possibility of bricking?
It could brick your phone if you've unlocked your bootloader. Otherwise you will lose root.
If you want to read all the discussion on the ota update do a search for it. There was umpteen threads about the same topic.

How do I know if I've unlocked my bootloader?
Last one, you have to use the search if you got more questions. Or wait for someone else to answer.

You can root the new firmware. The root thread has been updated.
Apparently it adds the Chinese language pack.

ahh, yea, i can't take the OTA because of root and all that jazz, will anyone make this into a zip?
Can anyone answer this dumb question. I unrooted via SU app with the intention of trying to take the update, then just root again via recovery. I rebooted after the unroot script and was stuck in bootloop until i rerooted.... way?

Pretty simple actually.....
This is what I did.
1. Flash newest update via Odin, reboot
2. Re-root... That's pretty much it.

I apologize if this has been asked, a brief search didn't show anything related.
So due to the recent development it seems like handsets sold in India won't be getting CM updates, but users can manually perform updates, correct?
Has anyone been doing manual updates over the OTA updates? Is the process tedious?

Since there's no loss of warranty when you unlock and tweak this phone, Indian users would be better off doing so and flashing each update like you would flash any other ROM. It's a simple 5 minute process

Flashing a Rom on OnePlus one will clear the internal storage?
Nope. But unlock you bootloader as soon as you get the device since that wipes everything

It's simple. You download the OTA, boot into recovery, flash the OTA, that's it.

No, the only time the internal storage is wiped is when you unlock the bootloader.

So back it up to your PC first. This information is all easily available here on XDA, so a bit of research when buying the phone would have revealed that the best time to unlock the bootloader is when you first receive it.

Why would one need to unlock the bootloader? (not a newbie, just gimme a quick response like cause you need to root or whatever)
I should be getting one One on Monday so this kinda stuff is good to know.

Even if you don't want to root the device having the bootloader unlocked is insurance in case something goes wrong. If for any reason you need to recover the device, the fastboot images are the best way, and top flash those you need an unlocked bootloader. Just unlock it when you receive the phone, there's no benefit to leaving it locked, and there's no downfall to unlocking it.

Good point! Mind pointing me to a link on how I should unlock the bootloader? If you cant thats okay too, Ill search around.
I should say I am quite impressed by the people hanging in these forums, way more friendlier than the S4 forums.

Well, without unlocking, you can't root and flash ROMs and tweak your device in any way. Plus, you don't lose warranty. So why not do it?

Hi,
I see the Stagefright patch came out today. I'm on Stock Rooted Lollipop with S-off and unlocked. My phone was able to download the patch but then went to TWRP recovery so no dice.
I'm aware of the process needed to get the OTA to work. Just wondering if any side-loadable forms of the Stagefright patch may be forthcoming from some of the genius developers around here. Obviously want the fix but not so sure about having to undue everything on my phone.
Otherwise, is the best suggestion to reflash stock recovery and then take the OTA? IS it true this won't re-lock my phone or S-On it again? Seems if these remain unchanged from current state I would have easier time.
Thanks for ANY advice. Always appreciate it.
I just noticed that my phone was downloading the OTA, im s-off,stock,5.0.1. I see you took the OTA, did you have any issues with the phone? Im currently trying to figure out if i should take it, just dont want to brick my phone or anything
I would just sit tight. Someone is bound to extract the contents and post a flashable zip with confidence that it won't cause any problems. Give it a day or 3.
My phone downloaded, went into recovery. Saw that it was TWRP and didn't do anything. So technically, the download didn't take. I will wait as the next comment suggests....flashable zip is surely inbound.
Thanks!

Hello, i am currently on pure nexus with the April update on tmobile (pixel xl). I have a few questions I'm hoping someone could answer before diving in. Which factory image do i use, 7.1.2 May N2G47T? I would like to be able to take ota updates after I'm done, i take it that this would now be possible then? Also, do i need to relock my bootloader to take ota updates. Thanks

No, that is the image for Deutsce Telekom. You want N2G47K. They are labeled on the full image page.
You do not need to relock to get ota's

Ok, but that is April's image, is there a May image i can use?
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
Hey there buddy,
Google's website for Factory and OTA includes images/releases from certain carriers. I live in Canada for example so version 7.1.0(I think?) has a release for my specific carrier, so whenever I factory reset, I use that one then relock my bootloader directly after. This leads me to receiving proper OTA everytime.
Other than finding your own carrier image, your best bet is using the standard build flash.
Always be careful with flashing and tinkering and best of luck! =]

Yes. There are three. Verizon, Dutch Telecom and everyone else. Tmobile is in the everyone else category so you are good with that one.

I myself am with Tmobile as well and still on N2G47E, April's Build.
I didn't upgrade to May's build because I read there was an issue with TWRPRC1/RC2 or SU with the bootloader on May
I was wondering if this issue has been solved? Is there another zip I need to flash as well?
So far I have been sticking with Stock Rom, but I root with SU and use elemental X kernal with TWRP. thanks!
