[Q] Will the lollipop preview receive an OTA when the official release is available? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just generally curious. I want to sell my Nexus 5 to a relative and I am running the Lollipop preview. Should I expect it to get the official release OTA update? Whenever new previews updates were available, you would have to manually update the Nexus 5, so will we have to manually update the Nexus 5 to the official Lollipop update or will it receive the OTA like someone who wasn't running the preview would?

there's no notification for any updates yet. and the system updates show that the software is "up to date". What should i do?? Is something wrong with the phone if it isn't showing any notifications for updates?? kindly respond soon =)

The update is paused till they fix problems

But 2.3.3 isn't the latest update. Shouldn't the phone be giving me notifications to update to the latest available version? like 2.3.6 maybe?
Simply root your phone and choose any rom you like. No need to wait for an update.
I bought my phone 26the December, I kept checking for update never got one then I read post it will only update to latest one since they have stopped it temporary u will either have to root/ do it manually or just wait
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
The update strategy of google is really confusing :
No dates, no indication, no explanations why they stopped OTA. The most surprising thing to me is : why stopping 2.3.6 OTA while the problem is about the 4.0.3 version?
Its for a couple of days m8 most people would be hacked of if they had to update there fine every to minutes

easiest solution, and you dont have to wait on anybody.. update manually. there are links to all the android versions, available to the nexus s, posted here in xda. and you dont need root to update an official stock rom with an official stock rom.

Updating manually will solve your problem. Just make sure that the model of is same as your Nexus S since there's 3 types of Nexus S and they all use different radio...

You mean, i doswnload official OTA ICS and flash via recovery, no need to unlock a bootloader?
Sent from my GT-I5800
No need to unlock bootloader if you're flashing stock ROM
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
If you want to go stock(no root, no unlocked bootloader, no custom recovery) wouldn't recommend updating to ICS OTA, since there is that battery drain bug, that has yet to be fixed.
Also downgrading back to GB is quite tricky, if not imposible without unlocking the phone.
there's no bug, they just paused it, you can download it from here and just rename it and flash through the stock recovery!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063664
But why to flash if there is a battery bug for most of people. You got to be lucky.

I have two 9020t updated to 4.0.3 and both are battery bug-free. I had the official update OTA on one and manual update in the other ( missed the OTA because I was tinkering with the first one). I jumped from 2.3.3 to 4.0.3 when I got the OTA
I haven't had a problem

There's a bit more battery consumption, but nothing to worry about...

Not able to update my nexus 5 to KitKat 4.4.4 using OTA

I saw on the Internet that KitKat 4.4.4 with security bug fixes has been launched only for nexus 5 through OTA but when I check for updates, the phone says your system is up to date. I'm running stock android 4.4.3 unrooted. Why is this happening? Any help regarding this?
P.S. - I don't want to update using factory images. Only using OTA. Want to know why my phone is unable to get the update.
Thank you

They roll out in stages. You'll have to be patient or check out the ota help in the general forum and download the ota zip

Floating around here are stock 4.4.4 zips you can flash.

Don't worry. I've not received it either. Google sucks with updates and gives absolutely no change log or support. Apple walks all over them in this area. I've read it may take two to three weeks for everyone to get it.

and thats why on update day at apple it takes 12+ hrs for the update to download because their servers are hammered.
pick your poison.
I'd definitely take the staged rollout. No question. Then again, I never wait for an ota. There are plenty of other options available if you're not patient enough to wait. Even waiting for the ota, you'll still get the update before most other devices. Some won't get it at all. Wait, or go a different route. Simple.

I don't understand why people who are so desperate for the update don't just install a custom recovery and flash the zip.
Or just adb sideload like a savage.

[Q] New nexus 5 not getting 5.0

Hi,
Just 2 days back I bought a nexus 5 and after unboxing, the software upgraded to 4.4.4. I am still waiting for the 5.0 update. Is this normal? I dont want to install any ROM or flash it. Does it take time for a new nexus 5 to get 5.0 via OTA?

Yes, it happens in batches. If you don't want to flash it yourself, you'll just have to wait.
Bro even I did buy a Google Nexus 5 a day ago and what was shocking to me is that it came preinstalled with android 4.4.4 and also I have not got the lollipop update
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
Why is that shocking? Do you think it just rolled off the production line or something?
It will have been made ages ago and just sat around in storage before you bought it.

Don't worry....it seems that Google removed 5.0 OTA.......i've the ota notification since a 10 days ago but now it says that my version is the last (4.4.4)
So it seems that is near to push 5.0.1 i think

They have not removed the OTA. It's delivered in batches. If you don't accept the update, you go to the back of the queue.

The queue waiting for 5.0. There is always a queue. Not all Nexus 5 have received or accepted the update. If you ignored the update, you go to the back of the queue whilst people who are still waiting for the update and actually want it, get a chance to download it.
Google servers cannot hit every device at once as there are too many. You get a notification when it's your time. Whilst your batch is having the notification, there are people in queue behind you. If you don't accept that update, you miss your slot and all the other people waiting get their chance. It will come back round to you again in time

Count yourself lucky..... ?
I received my phone today and I have the same issue; at least now I know that I'll have the possibility to update my phone in the future. Is there any difference between update it automatically or flash the update manually?

Why so? What is wrong with Lollipop? I used a N5 which had L that belonged to a friend of mine and honestly, was quite delighted by it.

I bought the nexus 5 today after Google announced production has stopped. Upgraded 4.4.2 to 4.4.3 to 4.4.4 but no 5.0. My nexus 4 received 5.0.1 today. Was wondering where is 5.0?

It's in space waiting for Optimus Prime.
Seriously though - this thread is not that long. Your question was replied to on the previous page already. Google sends updates in batches and not all at the same time. Not all N5s have received the update yet. If you are really anxious, just install the 5.0.1 factory image and stop waiting.
Edit: damnit @rootSU you ninja

Stilla ota 5.0 for my Nexus 5 and it's january 5. Why is that?

It's january 5 and I still havn't got Lollipop 5.0 ota for my N5.

I haven't gotten it either. I think they stopped the ota updates due to bugs. I think they will begin again when 5.0.2 is ready (speculation) for our phones.

I was tired of waiting so i sideloaded ota 5.0. After that the ota 5.0.1 came directly.
Works perfect.

it is a year that I wait for the firmware .... for now still nothing
I'm not holding my breath. I have little faith in HTC these days. Downgrading to Nougat from Oreo solved most of my issues. Pie will just give me more.
in germany the Pie update is OTA with update function available.
but i don't have update, because i use Magisk and XprivacyLua... i don't know how i can do it in best way. Next days i will read her...
I have a copy of the US unlocked OTA zip but i desperately need help trying to fix the phone
got it today. can't remove notification bar clock. can't get new home button to work due to Gesture settings.
