Hangouts has recently been telling me that my texts aren't sending. They'll stay "sending" for a very long time (meanwhile the recipient will receive 3 of the same message) before going "message not sent. touch to retry." Sometimes, it even goes to "x mins via sms" however the text gets sent multiple times again. I've tried deleting cache/data/uninstalling all updates to Hangouts then reinstalling the new updates....nothing. Any ideas?

Hey everyone,
I currently have an AT&T Captivate on the Telus network. I had to manually put in the APN setting and stuff. I have a problem with the SMS portion of the phone. If I send an SMS using the messaging app or handscent sms it shows the sms as sending even though it has been sent. And when I restart the phone it sends all of the text messages again. It is very annoying as sometimes it will resend about 30 texts to the same person. What is wrong with the phone?
I have the same problem sometimes with handscent. Usually it's only 1 or 2 tho

Click to collapse
Go under 'Settings', 'Send Message Settings', and check the box for 'Prevent Resend'. This stops that problem with Handcent SMS.
Sent from my HTC Hero CDMA running Android 2.3
just tried, it would still send the message again after i restart the phone. any other ideas?
i have to delete the whole sms thread to make this not happen. Which is kind of annoying. So I am hoping someone has the same issue as me and has fixed it lol
I have seen some threads about phones receiving multiple instances of the same text, but in my case the phone seems to be sending the text multiple times. It doesn't show up in the Android messaging app as having been sent multiple times, but it shows up in the billing records each time the recipient received it.
If I delete the message that is being multi-sent, the phone starts repeating some other message.
This is a G2X with stock software. The texts are sent using the Android messaging app.
On my nexus 5, I don't get instant hangouts notifications from other Google users but receive instant texts. If I manually go to the conversation sometime the new messages appear and sometime if I send new message the older messages from the person appears. If I don't manually check messages I get notification after approximately twenty minutes. Hangouts was working fine on my s3 but now it's switched off. It's also working on my nexus 7. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks
Since getting my Nexus 5 a couple of months ago, I've been using google now quite a lot, including to send SMS messages by voice control. That has always worked absolutely fine, until the other day I realised that a text hadn't appeared in my conversation thread in the stock hangouts app. I checked with the person I'd sent the message to and they hadn't received it at all.
Since then, every time I've dictated a text to google now it has said "message sent" after the little "message sending" pops up, though the messages haven't appeared in my conversation threads in the hangouts app and the messages don't actually appear to have been sent at all as none have reached the recipient. Sending messages normally through the hangouts app works fine, and receiving messages is also fine - the disappearing messages are isolated to using google now.
I've tried clearing the cache and data for both hangouts and the google search apps, but that hasn't helped. Has anyone else had a similar problem or have any ideas?
Thanks,
Nathaniel
