Android 5.0 (Lollipop) Bootloader and KitKat Compatibility
Everyone wants Lollipop, however it is worth considering some of the possible consequences of upgrading via OTA update.
Bootloader:
A new Bootloader (BL) will almost certainly be included in the OTA update. It is also very likely no KitKat Kernel, stock or custom will be able to boot properly with the 5.0 BL. Perhaps the Kernel DEVs can find a workaround.
Root:
It may take some time to gain root access on Lolipop as on other devices this has required a custom Kernel. A custom kernel itself may require kernel sources to be released - something that has taken weeks / months in the past. Finally Chainfire Roots Lollipop on the Nexus 9. :highfive:
Xposed Framework:
Developer has said he will wait for CyanogenMod based on Lollipop before properly starting development of an ART version of Xposed. CM12 may take a few weeks to release. Expect to do without Xposed for at least a month, probably longer since root is also required (see above.)
Custom Recovery:
This has not been an issue before, but it is always possible a new Bootloader could break compatibility with existing Custom Recoveries. Obviously, you would not be able to restore a CWM / TWRP backup without a functional custom recovery; but even then, it is unlikely you will be able to boot your KitKat backup.
Custom ROMs:
This is another area that could be affected by a new Bootloader. It is unknown if existing custom ROMs will require new Kernels / system changes in order to work with the new BL - something that could take days, weeks or months.
Performance:
Currently the performance difference between KitKat and Lollipop is unknown. If the first release of Lollipop for Android One has performance issues, you may be unable to revert back to stock KitKat.
Possible solution:
Wait for a flashable zip [NOT OTA Update zip] of Stock Android One Lollipop ROM - this would mean your Bootloader remains at it's current version and potentially allowing you to change 'back and forth' between Stock KitKat and Stock Lollipop. However, it is currently unknown if the newer BL is a requirement for Android 5.0 Kernels.
This is taken from the Moto G thread and all credits goes to @lost101.The sole motive of this is to create awareness about the new bootloader included in 5.0

i finally got my phone rooted and bootloader unlocked. Now i wanted to get started with installing custom roms.
Some questions i have are:
What kernel to use for roms like Glade 2.0 or any other android 5.0+ roms . why can i not use the stock kernel
Which is the fastest ,cleanest available rom for this device.
Is recovery already present in all kernels.
IMPORTANT:If i install an ota from sony after unlocking my phone's bootloader, will it brick my phone permanently..?

1. Stock kernel is for Jellybean 4.2. Therefore you cannot use it for 5.0.
The roms already have the kernels , you just need something to flash these roms. Go to the development section and download the one click recovery installer app. Use philz touch recovery from that.
2. All these roms have their own advantages and limitations. It would be better if you read the reviews/bug reports in their threads. You'll get a better idea.
3. If you're talking about the above roms, then yes. They already have recoveries.
I am wanting to upgrade to 5.1 so I might enjoy CM 12 or other roms. I've tried to flash CM 12 nightly but it was incompatible and failed.
Plan to start clean but I do not wish to loose root.
Anyone have a stable way to get this done? (will 6.0 marshmellow ever work on a Maxx Obake?)
Thanks in Advanced

If your device is unlocked, you can't lose root. You can flash it from TWRP at any moment on every firmware. CM 12.1 is stable enough for everyday using. Not without bugs, but nothing criminal
Hello,
Since it doesn't seem that note pro P900 will get marshmallow, I am thinking of changing to a custom ROM. I have a few questions since I'm pretty new to this. I have a Note PRO 12.2 SM-P900.
1. Will I lose the S-pen function if I change to a custom ROM?
2. Which ROM is the best and it has to be stable? - as I'm using my tablet for school.
3. Is there a guide how to install a custom ROM?
First off I'm not sure what marshmallow has to do with going to a custom rom in your mind but just so you know, in order for a custom ROM that is based upon TouchWiz to exist there must be a stock ROM available for it. That is to say that if you want a marshmallow based custom ROM that has TouchWiz functionality baked into it then a stock marshmallow ROM needs to be released by Samsung. Just figured I'd make that point clear.
Secondly, technically S-Pen function isn't lost with AOSP based ROMS but the standard baked in functions are. Stuff like, the pop-up menu when you pull out the pen, action memo, smart select, image clipping etc. Those things are in TouchWiz so if they are important to you then stay away from AOSP based ROMS and look for TouchWiz based ones instead.
Third, there isn't a ton of development for the SM-P900 so options are limited as is support.
My suggestion is work on getting custom recovery with root first. If you're successful with that then consider going custom ROM after that.
The thing I said regarding marshmallow was more in the way that since Note Pro is not getting it then I have no reason to stay on the stock rom
Is it possible for you to suggest me a TouchWiz rom then? Since I use my S-pen and must be stable.
What happens if I fail getting a custom recovery with root? Will I brick the device?
Well to be honest I believe there's only one custom lollipop touchwiz based ROM for the SM-P900 right now and that's CivZ's ROM.

As far as where to start, like I said start with the basics which is custom recover (TWRP) and root. The reason root is needed is to retain the custom recovery, otherwise booting into stock system after installing the custom recover can often result in loss of that custom recovery. You need that custom recovery in order to install the custom ROM.
There's a guide to custom recovery and root here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...guide-install-official-lollipop-p900-t3154362
Worst case when trying to do the root and custom recovery is having to restore the device using a factory image and Kies so be prepared for that.
Most common issue with doing the custom recovery and root is missing the buttom combinations or a step in the instructions which can lead to boot loops and getting stuck on the boot splash screen. As long as one can get back into download mode though a custom recovery should still be able to be installed. As long as a custom recovery can be installed a custom ROM can be installed on the device. Of course this all assumes the ROM being downloaded is confirmed to be compatible with the device to begin with . . . try to install a wifi only ROM onto an LTE tablet or vice versa . . all bets are off.
This will update you to June 2016 driver your rom may or may not include this driver already
do a nandroid aka twrp backup of your system partition before you flash just in case
Requires you to be on mm rooted rom and bootloader unlock not really required but how are you rooted on mm if you don't have a locked bootloader so yeah just saying
kitkat it bootloops and lollipop it boatloads do not use this if you are on nougat It causes horrible performance and black screens instead of content
Download from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3435159
Then flash in twrp
That is it easy
in above linked thread people have improved Benchmark scores and better stability and performance it works fine for me your miles may differ as always flash at your own risk
thanks airidosas252 for the find of the new drivers
Wow thanks for this. I was hesitant at first so I did some research and after backing up my system partition, I flashed it and my phone is definitely much more responsive. I don't know why this wasn't included in the PF4 update because it makes a big difference in performance.
I recommend anyone building ROMs based on PF4 include this in your ROM.
Can't it work on stock lollipop rom?
edit it doesnt work on kitkat or lollipop i had an unlocked bootloader on both roms i tried ni2 rooted tw based rom and cm12.1 unofficial for klte aosp rom try more roms and firmwares if you feel like it but i dont think it works on kitkat or lolipop

Hi!
I got samsung xcover 3 with adroid 5.1. Is it possible to update it to android 6.0 without downloading system from unofficial websites?
What's the best/safest way to dit?
Thanks in advice for any answer.
What you want to do is to upgrade Android OS: updates are patches for existing Android OS rolled out by OEM/Carrier if they deem it necessary.
Anyway, to upgrade your Android OS it requires as 1st thing of all things to install a Custom Recovery ( like TWRP ), then flash a Custom ROM ( based on Android 6.0 or newer ) by means of installed Custom Recovery. Take note that both the Custom Recovery and the Custom ROM must be at 100% suitable to your phone.
