[Q] Samsung Gear Round - Galaxy Note 4 Accessories

Anyone heard any more info about this watch? Not really sure where to post this question. If this comes out I will hold off on the Gear S and get this 4G LTE smartwatch
Lately rumors have started swirling that like LG, Samsung also has a round smartwatch coming to pair with the Note 4, and to take on the Moto 360 release. SamMobile claims the new round Samsung smartwatch could possibly have a SIM slot for 4G LTE connectivity, and will be available alongside the Note 4. We’ve yet to see any leaks of the device, so will have to wait and see.

And run Tizen like all the others.
If this rumor pans out, I absolutely do NOT want this watch. The "wart" on the gear original watch was horrid looking. I'll keep my Gear 2 for now, hoping someday we'll get apps, or someday Android Wear will support all the extra goodies like phone, gps, camera, etc that Samsung likes to throw in.
I considered the Gear S, but it looks huge.

Who's upgrading from the Gear S2?

Anybody upgrading from their current Gear S2 Sport, Classic, or 3G/4G?
I currently have a Gear S2 3G and I'll most likely upgrade to the Frontier Gear S3. My major reasons are:
1. Samsung Pay MST
2. Bigger battery & life
3. New design of the Frontier
What are your reasons for or not upgrading?

I owned S2 Classic and the biggest plus for me is the larger screen and size. I will buy one of the S3 versions as soon I can try them, atm i'm going for frontier...

Never bought a smartwatch before but the frontier got my attention.
Both look good, might just get the classic, especially after my two Invicta watches stopped working. I was gonna get the S2 until I knew this was coming out
I just got a moto 360 sport yesterday, but I use an iPhone currently and it's super clunky to get my old Android phone to set up pair and add music to it. The price of 180 was right for me, but the gear s3 got my attention being able to stream.
It takes a long time to add a playlist to the play music app and I'm pretty fickle when it comes to my music when I run. I'm very much considering returning the 360 sport so I can get the gear s3 frontier, it's only 5 bucks more per month for quite a bit of functionality.
Of course I'll have to switch from play music to Spotify, too. On that note does anyone know if the binge on for music works with the wearable plan on T-Mobile?
I will probably be upgrading from the GS2 3G to the Frontier. I like the larger screen size, Samsung Pay, larger battery and longer battery life...
I'm probably upgrading as I was disappointed the Bluetooth S2 didn't have a speaker. No calls and it made finding the watch a little challenging.
I will not upgrade to Gear S3 because I like the size of the S2. The S3 is too clunky for my liking. But maybe I'll change my opinion when I see the Gear S3 really with my own eyes.
I like the look of the S3 but won't be upgrading from my current S2 until there is better App support. Still lacking some key apps for my use. IE a good fitness tracker like Runtastic or Endomondo. Without better apps, I may have to abandon this awesome platform.

Runtastic is available on the S2. Also S-health from Samsung and Strava if you bike or run etc.
It would be perfect with Google Now. One can dream...

Please do tell where you found Runtastic for the Samsung Gear S2. It does not show up in the Samsung Galaxy App Store. In fact, when I asked Runtastic about support, they told me that they have no plans of supporting the Gear S2. I also don't find Strava. As for S-Health. I don't find it is accurate in it's distance. I don't believe it uses GPS to track distance but instead uses step count. I could be wrong there. I just find it sad that none of the big players in fitness apps feel this platform is worth supporting. Hopefully that will change with the S3.
I have had the Gear, Gear 2 and the Gear S, and am really looking forward to the S3! I hope they announce a date of release soon, and a pre-sale. I check daily for news of it. Great watches. Love my Gear S, but after almost 2 years, time to upgrade.
Have the S2 LTE and Classic LTE. Will probably get the frontier from Tmobile and sell the classic.
I use the regular s2 as more of a health watch.
I have a Gear S2 Classic 3G and want to upgrade for the same reasons you mention, plus
a) direct Spotify streaming (taking the place of Milk Music, which is dead);
b) slightly larger screen
Also, I have noticed that Samsung Pay beta works on the Gear S2 3g without being tethered by BT, which is great. SO far it works great, but since the Frontier will also have MST, should be fully covered when traveling without my wallet

I'll most likely be upgrading to the Frontier. What annoys me though, is how Samsung says it has LTE only for specific countries. I mean, what the heck!? Germany isn't getting LTE. Australia isn't getting LTE either. I live in both countries and I can't get LTE in either of them? Sad.
Aside from that though, I really didn't like how my Gear S2 classic was so dependent on my Galaxy S7. If the phone wasn't nearby while I was out jogging the fitness tracker was little more than an expensive toy. It kinda defeats the purpose of the smartwatch in the first place in my opinion. Before I bought the S2 I had my phone strapped to my arm communicating with my Polar H7 heartrate monitor. It had a few more useful functions, access to way, way more apps and was pretty accurate.
Accurate enough for my purposes anyway.
That said, I'm hoping that after selling my Gear S2 and going through the withdrawal symptoms of having no tech on my arm during the day (yes I missed it like crazy for a while) that the wait will nevertheless be worth it and we all get a really good watch this time that can handle itself on its own out in the concrete jungle without being so dependent on, "big brother" mobile phone.

Upgrading for the same reasons, I like the idea of a bigger watch overall and another reason is the speaker! Which is the only thing I dislike about the S2 .
.
I'll be upgrading my Gear S to the S3. Never got the S2 since it doesn't have a speaker.
Hoping these get released soon, the charging contacts on the back of the S are barely holding on now......... Can be a challenge to get it charged sometimes.........
In preparation for the Gear S3, I just sold my Gear S2 3G tonight. The $200 will be going toward the Classic. Come on, Samsung, hurry & start the preorder!

That's what I'm waiting on as well, Samsung US only shows the classic on their website, outside of the ads showing both, but you can't even preorder it. I'm wanting to see if Samsung pay will work on the watch if the phone is rooted, I've got an S7 edge.

Cross carrier use

I have VZW but am looking to get the S3 Frontier LTE through T-Mobile. It amazes me with the launch date being tomorrow VZW has no information on the S3.
That being said. How seamless will it be using a VZW S7 Edge and T-Mo Gear S3? I figure I can connect via BT when carrying my phone but how about when I want to leave the phone behind. Some have said the Gear app will allow me to forward the calls from the phone to the watch. How does that affect texts and other features?
I travel internationally so having T-Mo might not be a bad idea with their international included in their plans.
Thanks for any info you can provide.
It will very likely not work at all on Verizon's LTE (although it should work fine as a Bluetooth watch). Verizon's primary LTE band is B13, and the T-Mobile version of the Gear S3 Frontier doesn't support it.
I've read in numerous places that the SIM is embedded and will not work on any network but the seller's.

I'm not talking about using T-Mo's version on VZW. I'm talking about going with T-Mo service with the S3 but syncing it with my VZW S7 Edge.

Apologies, I've seen too many posts from people that want buy the TMO or AT&T LTE versions with the intent to use them on VZW.
Given your requirements, I don't think it will be as seamless as you might like, and I suspect it's a fringe use case so finding someone with practical experience may take some patience.
You might want to consider posting your question on the S2 thread, since it should not be any different with the S3. There are more of those users out in the wild, some of which may doing what you are considering. I too will likely be be crossing carrier lines, so please share your findings/experience.

It will work just as seamless as it would if they were both on the same carrier. I've used the s2, s2 classic and now I have the s3 from tmobile with my Verizon phone. I wish it did the number sync, but AT&T'S the only one that does that.
I used to have T-Mo Galaxy phones, but now I only use my work phone: Verizon S7 Edge. I have had all the Gear S watches since the first one a couple years ago. I switched to my Verizon phone a few months ago and it was seamless to pair with my Gear S2 and now with my Gear S3.
However, I am having a weird issue since I started using my Verizon phone (with Gear S2 and now the same problem with my Gear S3). Not a total deal-breaker, but annoying, nonetheless. I am sure there is a solution out there, so I am not giving up on the watch just yet. For no apparent reason, calls will sporadically be auto-answered (on the phone) or will go straight to voicemail and I'll get a notification a few minutes later, which is the only way I realize I had a missed call. The only thing that has changed is the phone is a Verizon model, so that is the only thing I can think of. The Verizon call forwarding is a little different than the way T-Mo does it, so that is all I can think of that could be the possible cause.
Other than that the T-Mo watch works fine with a Verizon phone. Just curious if anyone else has this problem or if they have the same set up and are not experiencing the problem.

Moto Z compatability?

I'm thinking of buying a Gear S3 (bluetooth, not LTE) to pair with my Moto Z. Any experience on here with compatibility issues? Limited functionality problems?
I have a s3 frontier Wi-Fi only and I didn't have any real issue with a gsm moto z play. The only thing I noticed was that sometimes it wouldn't connect automatically to phone. I would habe to go in and manually connect the watch through the gear app. It want always the case.

have you been able to use samsung pay (MST, not NFC)?
I was able to with no issues.
I have a Moto Z force through Verizon. I have the gear 3 classic. I use Samsung pay. I can receive calls and I can get text from what's app but not from message+ through Verizon. It notifies me that I have a message but tells me to go to my phone. I also do not get any email at all. I try to get support from all three, Samsung, Verizon and Motorola, no one seems to be able to help. Stuck in a 2 year contract so I have to do the best I can.

I can confirm that samsung pay is working, MST is supported. tested in walmart yesterday
Samsung Pay on the watch is independent of the phone. Other than occasionally needing to sync with the Gear Manager app to replenish tokens, the phone is irrelevant.

Non-Samsung Smartphones and Gear S2 Compatability List

POST YOUR PHONE, ORIGINAL PHONE CARRIER, AND YOUR GEAR S2 YOU HAVE IT PAIRED WITH, AND IF THERE ARE ANY PROBLEMS (email, notifications, apps, calls, etc. not working).
P.S. I'm especially interested to know if someone has a moto z/play/force that is functionally paired with a gear s2.
EXAMPLE (NOT REAL):
Moto X
Unlocked
Gear S2 3g Verizon
No problem with email/calls/texts/notifications
Together we can make a list and help some other poor soul, like myself, that wants to get this watch but is afraid he'll be left with a paperweight.
oneplus 3T
unlocked
Gear S2
No problem with email/calls/texts/notifications

Question Will S3 Frontier work?

Anyone know if the older watches will work with this phone, since they dropped Tizen?
Bought the G4 Classic, but found my older Frontier.
