[Completed] [Q] How to flash TY_Q8H generic chinese tablet - XDA Assist

Hello,
To start with, I'm new to Android. I work in IT and have always been a windows/linux desktop user with combination of Windows phone/maemo/IoS for mobiles.
Basically my Nannu has handed me a tablet he picked up cheap and wants me to set it up. All seems to be running ok, set up a gmail account, checked wifi/camera etc are working. Then noticed that when launching the browser it defaults to google.com.hk. If I change the homepage in the browsers settings it reverts everytime I exit the app and relaunch.
Also little problems such as signing into skype fails, despite correct credentials and if i select the "trouble signing in" option I'm taking to a chinese version of skype website.
I've reset to factory defaults but this doesn't make a difference.
So I'm looking to flash the device with a ROM as suspect one currently loaded is custom Chinese ROM.
I've rooted the device and was looking at Shuame to flash it but unfortunately my Chinese is a little rusty/non-existent.
I thought maybe I could remove the default browser using Kinguser but it won't allow me to remove as its a system component.
There is no model info on the exterior of the tablet. Here is from the "about tablet" section in settings:
Processor: DualCore -A23
Model Number: TY_Q8H
Android Version: 4.2.2
Firmware Version: v2.0.8
Kernel Version: 3.4.9 [email protected] #365
Build Number: TY_POLARIS_ENG 4.2.2 JDQ39 20140528 test-keys
If anyone can advise or point me in the right direction for where I can find a ROM and a good tool to use to apply this I would appreciate it.
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I couldn't find anything relevant on your device on XDA. You can ask here for help and perhaps someone knows of something.

[Completed] missing basic services android 4.2, akai phone

hi!
i got a phone branded AKAI, model : ARISTO 45 (chinnese brand, probably )
it seems the phone is rooted, but the problem is someone deleted the play store and chrome and some basic services.
(cant download any app because there is no play store, can not even download apk's because there is no browser).
maybe a stock rom would solve the problem (?)
the phone's details :
android version : 4.2.2
Baseband version : SM112_BP_W_REDUCE_V0.0.9_S1215
kernel version ; 3.4.5
Buildl number : SM112_OTD_W_ARISTO_R_V0.2.4.2_S1225
or, how can i install these basic services, or even there is an option to install all the basics of the system somehow (it seems that someone
worked hard to delete almost any service in this phone - in apps --> Running there are only 3 services - Media, Google services, Android keyboard.)
BTW - the os is the basic andorid - the same as in motorola devices - without anything like the samsung touchwiz and that stuff.
thank you very much in advance!

[Completed] Updating OS on a Visual Land VL-107?

Hello. I'm not sure if this is a good place to ask, but at this point, it can't really get much worse. I know that this is a good, reliable site, and I figured that if anyone could help me, they'd be here.
I got a VL-107 (Visual Land Prestige 7) the other day and it's been a nightmare. I can't use Pandora because it crashes constantly, I can't use my favorite texting app because it freezes and crashes the moment I start typing, I can't use Snapchat because "my device isn't compatible". I spent several hours yesterday just getting the Play Store installed and working.
I suspect that the OS is the main problem (4.1.1, but I've never seen such a horrible Android OS, so I don't know if it's clean), and I'd like to update to a more recent Android version (hopefully 4.4.2 or so). I've seen a lot of stuff talked about, like Clockwork Mod, something called LiveSuit, etc but the most recent .img file I've seen was I believe 4.0.3, so obviously that's not what I'm going for.
In some places (maybe tabletroms), I've seen talk of people being able to make modifications by treating their VL-107s as "Allwinner tablets", but I didn't fully understand whether that would still be valid. I'm willing to do some experimentation with updating if need be, since at this point I basically consider the tablet as good as bricked.
I have a basic understanding of installing ROMs, and my tablet is rooted. There are no system updates available.
Specs (I don't fully understand these, so go easy on me):
Model Number: VL-107
Android Version: 4.1.1
Baseband Version: inet1.0_20121016
Kernel Version: 3.0.8+, [email protected] #19, Fri Jun 21 14:04:01 CST 2013
Build Number: 86FV0620130715W01G01T01

Hello, and welcome to XDA!
Based on the kernel version, looks like you have been upgraded to something custom already, and it's buggy. You may want to go back to 4.0.3 for some stability. At that point, some of the failed apps you tried may start working (assuming they don't have a minimum requirement of JellyBean or KitKat).
I would, check out this thread, it's the best place where your device experts can be found:
> General discussion > Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking > Creating a Backup/Recovery/Dump
Note, in order to post there, you will need to have an XDA account.
Hope this helps, and good luck!

Thanks a lot, I found out that I'm registered already so I'm going to head over to that board right now and see what I can find. I'm happy to go back to an older version if it means a working tablet.

[Completed] Android Tablet Issue

Hello there. I'm making this thread today requesting some assistance on my new tablet. It's a pretty old one, I believe. Recently, My grandmother gave me her old tablet cause she got a new one, so I'm playing with it for awhile and nothing but ads keep popping up, it slows down. For the end of me, I can't even download an app to use as you would on a mobile phone or PC. I tried so many antiviruses and nothing worked except for ironically KingRoot's Purify app it told some apps that are malicious and said what it is which is admob. So here is the issue, I can't remove it, all the antiviruses suggest me to uninstall and when I do it's unsuccessful, for what reasons, I don't know. The only time I can basically do any kind of navigating and uninstalling the stuff is when the WiFi is off. I did uninstall what the anti-virus told me successfully with the WiFi off but when I turn it back on, it reinstalls all the apps all over again. So I narrowed the problem down to it being in the ROM or something. So my question here today is, is there anyway I can just like re-install the android operating system? Or as what many people call it, re-installing the ROM? And how can I do that? Below is my information I've collected from the tablet.
Model Number: Zeepad 9RK (that's all it says)
Android Version: 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean)
Kernal Version: 3.0.36+
Build Number: rk3028a-eng 4.2.2 jdq39 eng.dp.20140715.112011 test-keys
Serial Number: LZLGN4UWZQ
If you need any more information, I'll be glad to give it to you.

[Completed] Orientation support in Android Box

I am new to this community and Android devices. I have recently bought Android Box device in which I want the following 3 features.
Orientation switching
I need a switch from where I can change screen orientation between landscape and portrait
I tried installing apps that claim to enable orientation rotation option but does not work. How do I get this feature?
Retain time
This device has American Trends BIOS version 2.16.1242
Core BIOS version 5.008
When I set the time in BIOS and start the device, wrong time is shown for a few seconds and then the time is corrected automatically. I think the OS gets the correct time from BIOS
I don't want to device to be dependent on time for BIOS. Can anything be done about this?
Remove scrolling wallpaper
There is not option to remove the scrolling wallpaper and have the good old single screen wallpaper. How do I get this?
Here are the details of the device.
My wintel Box firmware detail:
- Model no. w8
- Android Version 4.4.4
- IFWI version 5.6.5
- Kernel Version 3.10.20
[email protected]#1
Tue Dec 8 19:54:29 CST 2015
Build no.
KTU84P.eng.arron.20150831.114105 dev-keys
I don't want to root the device. How many of these issues can be solved without rooting?
Thanks in advance

[Completed] Need Help - Tablet PC (Ainol Numy 3G P97) System Flash and Installation of Custom ROM

Hi.
I've got a reasonably unknown Tablet PC.. Here are the specs and miscellaneous information;
Name: Ainol Numy 3G P97
Internal Memory: 16GB
RAM: 1GB
GPU: Mali-400 MP
SoC: MediaTek MT8382 ARM Cortex A7 @ 1.3Ghz (Quad Core)
OS: Android Jellybean 4.2.2 (I'm pretty sure it's a Custom ROM)
Kernel Version: 3.4.5
Build Number: Numy_3G_P97_V1_2014090215
Custom Build Version: 1.19_20140822
Root Access: No (I never tried to root the device, never had a reason to do so)
I've been searching around for ways to upgrade the OS from Jellybean to Lollipop or higher. I've searched extensively within XDA Developers' various forums, but there doesn't seem to be any post in relation with my device.
I took to the internet and found some websites offering Flash Tools, Firmware (nothing above KitKat, or so it seems) and Android Studio. I've tried (in vain) to go through some tutorials on YouTube, but haven't come across anyone who's done anything with this particular device.
However, I have a rough idea rattling around in my head of what needs to be done, but I just need guidance from the Developers here to tell me how to get about doing it.
I have the following software downloaded;
1. MediaTek USB Drivers and Flash tools
2. SP Flash Tool v5.1620
3. Official Android Jellybean 4.2.2 System Image for the device
4. Android Lollipop 5.0 System Image (the site I downloaded it from says the Firmware is for a different tablet pc, but with the same specs as my device)
5. Android Studio (latest version, direct download from Google) - I read in some sites that Android Studio would help a lot to install a Custom ROM into any Android device, hence the download.
I'd greatly appreciate anyone helping me out in this endeavor. I'd like to install Lollipop (at least) on my Tablet PC, in order to gain some functionality as well as improved performance (hopefully!), as the current Jellybean OS is terribly laggy. I've seen other Tablet PC's with lesser specs running Lollipop smoothly, so I'm hopeful that there might be a silver lining to an otherwise very dark and sinister looking thunderstorm.
Thanks!
Hi @sisilk
As there isn't a dedicated forum for your device here, the best place for your query is in:
> Android Development and Hacking > Android Q&A,Help and Troubleshooting.
You can hopefully find some support there.
Good luck
