Ok,
here is our new release.
Well... Here we are at last! Whole new ROM, whole new thread
For a long time we have been working to build the best possible version of HoneyComb to the Advent Vega. It has been a LONG road, with many hacks and pitfalls along the way. We started with the messiest set of files anyone has ever seen, and we have now progressed to this. Full-fledged, GPU accelerated, NATIVE, Honeycomb 3.2 on the Advent Vega.
There's no going back now. I'm so happy with this ROM that I'm actually going a little crazy with affection. There are still some bugs... Rebooting to CWM causes a stale boot, you have to hold power to turn the tab off, then on next bot you get CWM. Still no camera, bluetooth isn't working. But other than that... Well, I'll let you guys see for yourself.
On the speaker issue, I feel I must put a quick note here... We BELIEVE that the "Overheating speaker" issue is now resolved. Audio levels are now well within the safe limits, and voltages are back at what should be a very safe level. But as always, please be VERY careful, unfortunately we cannot be responsible for any hardware failures resulting from using a custom ROM, but we are very confident that this issue should now be totally resolved.
VegaComb 3.2 Build 9b und 9n Update3 Features:
Update1+2 included
The clock and date issue should now been fixed for all
GPU RAM reduced to 96MB , more RAM for Apps
support for high Wifi channels like 12 + 13
new Honeycomb market
support for the soon coming GPS App included
Downloads, please choose the right Version (original ROM download is at the bottom of this thread!)! (or you Bootloop) :
Update 3 for Build9n: VegaComb_HC3.2_Build9n_update3.zip
Update 3 for Build9b: VegaComb_HC3.2_Build9b_update3.zip
VegaComb 3.2 Build 9b und 9n Update2 Features:
Fix for Bluetooth MAC addressing to hopefully make BT work correctly now.
Above fix should now also make WiFi considerably more stable.
Fix for people who were experiencing issues with the Market not being able to install apps.
Downloads, please choose the right Version (original ROM download is at the bottom of this thread!)! (or you Bootloop) Update 2 can be installed directly over 9n OR 9n-Update1 (it includes all of the Update 1 and Update 2 changes in a single package):
Update 2 for Build9n: VegaComb_HC3.2_Build9n_update2.zip
Update 2 for Build9b: VegaComb_HC3.2_Build9b_update2.zip
VegaComb 3.2 Build 9b und 9n Update1 Features:
Working Deep Standby
Updated camera lib
Re-added App Drivemount
VegaComb 3.2 Build 9b Features:
•Coarse location discovery (based on WiFi connection) is now working correctly.
•Updated camera libraries to the latest version thanks to the development effort by many (including Eduardo and Redscorpion) over at MoDaCo. Google Talk video chat should now be working, as well as the stock Camera app. Other apps have been tested but there is a possibility that not all of them work (please test and let us know!), but we felt that it was more important for Gtalk to work as the camera isn't much use for actually taking pictures
•Added Eduardo's accelerometer patch. This should allow much more responsive accelerometer with no lag.
•Power management for bluetooth/wireless has been fixed. Hopefully this should stop them interfering with eachother when one is disabled.
•Screen calibration functionality built in to the kernel to calibrate on the fly.
•USB on-the-fly host/slave switcher integrated in to the kernel, this should allow switching between USB host/slave on the tablets side USB port without the need to reboot!
•Disabled device suspend when the tablet is connected to an active USB connection, preventing the USB connection from being severed.
•Added a brand new app called: Shuttle Tools which includes the toggles for the above two options. Allowing you to calibrate the screen or switch USB modes from within Android.
• Better language support then 9n, newer Gapps
• No apps are moved to data
• It have a bigger system partition then 9n, so when you have bad nand blocks, this could be work better for you
• When you use the Full Rom Installer you don´t need to flash ModdedstockV2 (Beware when you flash the new full rom it is like the ModdedStockV2 install, you loose all data)
• All future updates after this Full ROM will come as CWM update zip, so that your data are save
VegaComb 3.2 Build 9n Features:
Please be aware that although there was a "version 9" release on some German forums, this update was never integrated into the full build process, and was a side-project by rebel1 to acheive 2 goals. 1) To greatly increase the /system partition size (from 150mb to 200mb) and use that size to add larger apps that have increased language support for non-english speaking users. This build is unrelated to the previous "build 9" and as such has been labelled 9n (new, or newbe5, meaning that it has gone through the usual build and testing processes by myself), an alternate installer based on THIS build will also be provided by rebel1, including the expanded /system partition and enhanced language capability, this alternate build will be labelled 9b (bigger system, alternate build) and will be an nvflash installer rather than a CWM image.
•System image has been shrunk considerably, this should help people who have a lot of random lockups / install issues due to bad NAND blocks. Build 8.1 was using 149.5mb of the allocated 150mb provided by ModdedStockv2, Build 9n is only using 139.8mb allowing much more room to avoid bad blocks if you have them.
•Google Books has been removed entirely. It looks nice, but it's pointless as you can't even access the Store outside of the US. Install this manually if you want it for some reason.
•Google Maps and Street View have been moved in to /data to save space and because they can both be installed/updated from the market, so there is no need for them to be in /system.

Current issues:
On rebooting to recovery, the tablet will "hang" on a stale boot. Hold down the power button until the screen goes completely off, and then power back on to get to CWM.
More? Probably! You tell us

Oh... I might have done some stuff too
Remember, this MUST be flashed over ModdedStock v2 or it will not work!
This is the one and only way to move to our image:
modstock -> data wipe -> vegacomb 3.2.
Dont ask for help if you dont follow this steps.
Download VegaComb_HC3.2_Build9n.zip NOW! This is for all users that comes from an previous build like 8.1 or ModdeStockV2
For users that comes from my Build9 they can download and flash it with CWM recovery Download VegaComb_HC3.2_Build9b.zip HERE!
And the last file:
Download VegaComb HC3.2 9b Installer.zip HERE!
This is a windows installer for the 9b Full ROM, you don´t need to install ModdedStock before, it makes it all for you
We hope you enjoy VegaComb.

Great job guys!
I can hardly wait to test this one out!
Very very speed rom..
Thanks
This week, I'm going to receive my Advent Vega. I believe this is the best Honeycomb ROM available (better than Vegacomb 1.7), is it correct?
Thanks!!
wow, loving this as it really does fly, very impressed.
I've just installed it. It really does fly. Just installing my apps now. Will let you know if I come across any problems.

SHWIINNGGGG!!!
Thank you gtablet gods!!!!
I must say i just installed it and its fast!!!
Faster then my gtablet on gtabletcomb 3.3.
OK so you vega gurus. whats the difference between advent vega/viewsonic viewpad 10s and the gtablet.
why can the roms be ingterchanable and whats the difference.
thanks for the roms guys, Now I dont have a reason to sell it.
youtube restarts itself when you rotate the screen.
Apps from market forcloses...
was using opera for a bit with some flash content, went to the home screen and went back to opera and the tablet resetted itself.
what do you mean by "Native App2SD has been added back in (is not present on 3.2 ROMS as standard)."
Does that mean we dont have to get the app2sd app?
I looked for the app2sd in the settings and is unable to find it.
can you please explain..??
I love it, thanks for your hard work.
awesome build
much much better than beta 1.7
thank you so much for that.
just one question, compare to 1.7, all icons look too big.
different resolution or different density?
I don't think we can change the resolution.
Thanks.
Edit: I use LCD density to make the icons smaller, got wifi error, after uninstall lcd density and reboot, no error.
aarrggg... I'm at work and can't get this till I get home.
5pm can't come quick enough now
Been playing with this since yesterday evening.
You can change the screen Res in your build.prop file. I'm on 140dpi at the moment, many people seem happy with 127
USB host mode doesn't work yet, hopefully not too far away
Everything is really fast. No lag at all. There are a few little oddities here and there but nothing too drastic. An amazing release really.
HDMI out is working? My TV didn't recognize it. Pretty fast. I set the density to 140. Looks better now. Thanks.

You need to hold power button until you see the power down menu, select recovery then it'll hang on reboot, hold the power then until the tablet is forced off and when you power back up, it'll boot into cwm recovery
could someone with an official dock please try and see if they can still connect usb peripherals on this rom, I know you can't directly until they fix it, but was wondering if it still worked via the dock. If so i'll buy one
thanks,
malty
Hi there.
I have been running this for a few hours, i have got to say, its fantastic. So quick and smooth. I think i will be running vegacomb from now on.
Just curious about the keyboard, it seems very small. Is that the stock one for 3.2? No major problem just installed hackers keyboard.
Still not sure about the pixel density, but i can easy change that.
Love the first boot screen, should make it more difficult to bang out a vegacomb clone on ebay
Any tips on getting the accelerometer working properly with games?
Many thanks to you and TeamNewCo, this is a fantastic ROM
Legendary. This rom is awesome.

Great rom
I love this rom and all the customization but whenever I play music from a game or an app like Google Music I can a really loud screeching sound :/ and it sucks because I use this device for 90% music listening. Any ideas or solutions ?

I did this for CM11 and PAC ROMS and maybe this will work for Vanir as well. I disabled the Lockscreen. problem solved...well not really, but it got rid of it for me. It also got rid of the Touchscreen issue after wake.
How soon do you think it will be, if ever, Nvidia apps will be able to be used in a custom ROM?
Shield tablet with Vanir Lock screen problem
Hi Everyone!
I've a problem with my shield tablet running vanir_wx_na_wf_4.4.4.101414...
The same problem appear with the stable version (older) of vanir rom.
The tablet go to the lock screen but sometimes the touch screen don't work...any ideas?
I've try the factory reset and the reinstallation of rom... Thanks!
Loaded Vanir onto my Tablet yesterday. Had the screeching and touchscreen issue within the first 4 hours. I can confirm my previous post that touch problem can be "eliminated" by disabling Lockscreen. So unless your providing logs and such to help fix this problem this is a pretty easy work around. If you dont like having a lockscreen though use the free version of attentive or another LS app that doesn't utilize android stock lockscreen. They don't seem to have any problems.
I tried to get a log of the problems after the touchscreen stopped but evidently I broke ADB on my computer and it cant find my tablet unless im in recovery.....so that's fun.
Bit of a dumb question, but would a feature like ShadowPlay work for the Shield Tablet build? I'm just curious as I've heard there are issues with the official 5.0 update that's making me want to move back (and many games I have don't seem to run well or at all still when using the Android Runtime). I appreciate any info you can provide.
Not Working
Okay so my Nvidia Shield Tablet 16GB WiFi is android 5.0.1 . Now I have tried every single ROM for this tablet but all it does is take me to the nvidia boot symbol, waits some seconds, restarts and repeats until it get to a dark screen. I have cwm recover and an unlocked bootloader! Please Help!
Ive been trying to build (CM not aosp) using a self constructed tree based off of the recent code drop, ill try adding some stuff from those lollipop trees and let you know if I get it working.
few dumb questions.....
first im still waiting to get this in the mail, but i was wondering if anyone could givve me some clarification about the builds on the vanir site to download ( emccannnet/nuclearmistake/VanirAOSPNightlies/wx_na_wf/ ) some say 4.4.4 and some 5.0.0 is the 12 20 build lollipop? as i would assume the name implies (vanir_wx_na_wf_5.0.0.122014 )
and then ( vanir_wx_na_wf_4.4.4.112414) would be kitkat?
and are the native nvidia apps working on these builds? ie console mode and controller support? and are they stable yet???? would i be better off staying stock rooted and waiting for the nvidia apps to get ported over? thanks for the time anyone spends helping me out here. muchly appreciated!!!

Same thing for me too!
This is my first port so there may be some issues but would love for any help squashing bugs once it gets going. I've built this similarly to how Android TV was ported to the OUYA in this thread.
Similarly I am using the following for this port:
His ADT-1 System dump from this post.
His Android L port to the 2012 Nexus 7 from here.
and last but not least
His CM11 Amp Build from here.

* Install CM11 first as per here
* Boot into recovery, install downloaded zip, wipe all, reboot
* Wait
* Enjoy
I haven't had a chance to install it yet, so it's very alpha right now but feel free to contribute to the repo.
As always only you are responsible for your device.
Just to let you know: you're not alone in this. I'll try to get this working in my free time as well.
Very excited for this. will install soon and give feedback. I'm not a developer but very experienced and own a nexus Q myself.
Thanks a lot for working on this.
I just saw this thread. Thanks for working on this. What's working/not working so far?
Has anyone flashed this yet? I want to try, but I won't be back home until next week. Just curious if anyone has had any success?
I've installed this just now ... unfortunately it doesn't look like its going to boot.
Followed all instructions ... bootscreen is moving but no load after 20 mins.
EDIT:
It did not boot and I am not sure why at this time.

Hopefully there will be some kind of fix. Nexus Q is the dream AndroidTV.
Still no progress past the boot animation sadly - even with the updated build. Does it matter which audio output version of CM11 you have flashed first? (edit: tried several & no joy)
Also, I tried to take a logcat to see if I could indentify where it was getting stuck during the boot proccess but sadly it would not let me as it is showing as "offline" which suggests that Android has actually booted and is therefore requiring an RSA key but has not made it as far as displaying any kind of interface.
Thanks for starting to work on this anyway. I would love to get Android TV working on this device.
I think I may know what the issue is with this. For the Ouya, using a 5.0 build for the N7 2012 made sense because they both use the Tegra 3. However the Nexus Q does not use the Tegra 3, internally it is almost exactly the same as the Galaxy Nexus and they both use the OMAP 4460, therefore using the Nexus 7 2012 base will not work.
If you use the latest Android 5.0 port for the Galaxy Nexus instead then things should (hopefully) work just fine. The CM12 port for the Gnex also includes some updated GPU drivers from Texas Instruments which give better performance and provide better compatibility with newer Android versions.
I hope this may help you create a working Android TV port. I may try and build something myself during late January if I get the time but I can't make any promises. I've only just got the Nexus Q so I'm just starting to play around with it.
I am excited to see the progress on this. If this works, the possabilities are endless. Thank you every in advance for their support. If we can get this up and going, I am definalty donating to the cause for someones hard work (i wish i knew how to do this!)
To the developer of this rom if you want help just pm me. I'm thinking of starting a hangout group for porting Android TV.
I am very interested in this project and would be interested in helping out. I have never done anything like this, and I would like to see the nexus q live on.
If the full android-tv functionality is not possible, it would still be interesting to me to turn it into a 'cast ready speaker' for cast audio. (obviously I would need to hook my own speakers to it)
It has an amp, the ability to hook up to wifi, and volume control. In my mind, it would need no other functionality other than the ability to cast to it.
If there are any suggestions or guidance, please throw them out there. I will do my best to run with it.
Really hoping to see this go somewhere.
So is development for this dead?
Is there anyway to get development spurred back up for this? I would gladly donate some $$$ for someone to put some time into it.....If I new how too, I would help in development. This would be the ULTIMATE Android TV player!!!!!

The developers need to first get android L running on the device. The port is nearly impossible if your device doesn't have a fully function 5.0 port. The graphics HAL is the main thing I think will fail.
You all are welcome to give my AOSP 5.1 ROM a try, with the understanding it is in an extreme ALPHA state (first build, no 3rd party features implemented yet), and can tolerate restoring a backup if you encounter issues. I'm not sure how many still are actively using these on XDA, but the more testers the better so development can be expedited.

Awesome thank you for your work. Hopefully with that, this can take off!
Hello all,
my first time posting on XDA, apologies in advance in case the thread isn't in the right location... I did have a search for this issue without much luck, it was never my exact issue or it there was no real answers.
Please go easy on me
So, I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1 / GT-P5110) which I'm using again after installing Lineage OS 13 custom rom to give it some new life. My issue is mainly with Netflix. The device is not rooted and I can find the Netflix app in Google Playstore. I am able to install it and it opens and runs ok as far as the menus and such are concerned. The problem is with video playback - It plays a video for some time (random) but finally it stops, and fades back to black, back out to the home menu. I did see sometimes an error message like 5.2, 5.8 or 5.10 ( and I followed advice for these from online, didn't help) but mostly it just fades to home menu like I described, with no error message.
I have been looking around for a solution to this problem but can't find one that works.
I have tried to install Magisk and Magisk Manager and then hide magisk, and it passed Safety Net, but the video problem still continues in Netflix.
Also, I've tried various other ROMs like Cyanogen Mod 11, Omni Rom, and SlimRom etc but all give the same issue
I realise this is an old device now but it's been well covered in terms of custom ROMs, even up to now.
I find it difficult to understand that there such a high-profile, very popular app like Netflix is giving this probem. There must be a solution, hopefully I just missed something.
Can you please help? Would appreciate any tips or advice!
Cheers
p.s. if @Android-Andi could take a look at my question and offer any advice, that would be great!
@Android-Andi maybe you might have some ideas about this? I'm hoping
I recently installed a Custom Rom and the truth is that it is giving me more problems than solutions.
I would like to know which is the best custom Rom to install it and that I can use the tablet 100%.
What do you recommend?
Preferably android marshmallow or higher
Which custom rom did you install?
Hi
At the moment i testing out following Roms:
Stock 5.4 (debloated by myself)
This is the latest Rom from Nvidia which has all of the oem apps and features this Tablet offers. But on the downside it has slowdowns and freezes. In my case i debloated the Rom by myself where i deleted apps and the systemapps like twitch, squid, fallout and ota or feedback for example. With this the device is barely useable with some slowdowns and freezes but way better than before.
LineageOS 14.1 by Saint2k
This is a stable, fast and secure Rom. Secure because it get almost every month a security update like on a new device and is the perfect Rom if you use it as a normal Tablet and play Games from the Playstore. On the downside Nvidia Games doesnt work and the Old Controller is just useable with the USB Cable + OTG Adapter. Also the Console Mode is buggy and some say it has a bad Batterydrain at idle what i cant comfirm yet.
AOSPExtended 5.8
This Rom is based on Android 8.1 with working Hardware Acceleration. But it has the same issues with Nvidia Games and the Controller and Consolemode. This is the more stable Version of the AOSPExtended Roms.
AOSPExtended 6.7
This Rom is based on Android 9 and the Nvidia Games App works but only when the App Signature is deaktivated with LuckyPatcher. For the GAPPS you also should use the OpenGapps Nano Pack instead of the older MindtheGapp. This is the less stable Version i also had 1-2 Restarts and 3DMarks had some Graphicissues. But apart from this it is a interesting ROM where i hope the Developer still is working on
One thing to the DRM Issues:
Every Rom also the Stock One is affected from this. Its because our Devices has Disconnected from the Widevine Service run by Google without a warning or a reason.
That means no Copyright Protected Medias like from Netflix are able to use atm.
I hope this was helpful for you and dont hesitate to ask if you have more questions.
i am also curious about this! looking for the best ROM for my k1

If you flash Magisks it has a few different modules that fix DRM so Netflix and other streaming apps work correctly. I just learned about them the other day when I was checking out some options in Magisks Manager.
As far as the best custom ROM goes I am going to have to go with ASOP 6.8. The reason being is it is the only ROM that will let my PS4 controller connect wirelessly. Also, it is the only ROM that screen casting is working for me on. However, it does not work when I use cast by swiping down on the screen and selecting it. I have to download a 3rd party app to get it to work. I found one the other day that worked perfect for allowing me to watch Cinema apk movies on my TV. I ended up factory resetting my tablet though and now I cannot remember what app it was.

Cool that means you be able to watch Netflix, Amazon, ... In Full HD ?
Because i also tried out the liboemcrypto disabler on my rootet oem tablet and i was able to start at least the netflix app but it wasn't going above 540p i would say because the Widevine CDM Securitylevel is now L3 before it was L1 with only Current HDCP Level stated as "Disconnected"
But i try out the second modul with DRM in name when the Tablet is done with charging

I tried the 5.8 aex 5.8 and it worked very well, until playing a google play game I realized that the tablet was locked and I closed the apps. Apart from that the screen mirroring does not work, it freezes the image.
Now I have installed the 14.1 , it works very well, the same game freezes, but it takes a lot longer. And this standby spends little battery, but on consumes that gives taste. And with this screen mirroring does not work with a smart tv, like stock.

What I'm looking for in a rom for my tablet is: to be able to play google play games, something demanding (like when I buy it), also be able to use screen mirroring to watch videos and movies on smart tv. And if it's possible for the battery to last.

Hi
In your case i would give the Unofficial LineageOS4.1 from Saint2k a try. Its fast, reliable, and secure because of the almost monthly security updates. Also Games from the PlayStore shouldn't be a problem. I also have a mirroring option which gave me no issues so far.

I currently have the 14.1 that you tell me installed. But screen mirroring doesn't work for me.
And demanding games, it slows down a bit or even after playing for a while, it closes my game.

Ok i tried the screen mirroring again and you are right it also crashes for me when i start it direct with the button from the dropdown menu. When i use it to cast the youtube app it works fine for me and thats the only thing i use it for atm so thats the reason i didnt notice it.
About the demanding Games i play occasionaly COD Mobile with the Tablet. Its really slow at starting because most of the time the game does updates and loads a lot of annoying ads
It just needs a bit of patience but when you actually in the match itself it runs just fine and it doesnt crash a lot for me.

for example, he played clash royale and the application closed 2 times.
Then the other day playing the game of the 7 deadly sins, it closed after 5 minutes of playing.

I recently upgraded from a 2 year old 14.1, to the latest. I found on the androidfilehost for the-saint2k sometimes had the latest on the right side, under recent files. I checked now and its updated to the latest
https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=297059
I found the kernel from BitObession
https://forum.xda-developers.com/sh.../tweaked-kernel-nvidia-shield-tablet-t3069776
K12-002 works fine and fixed my battery drain during sleep
https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=282989
I dont use screen mirroring, but i do use HDMI out for use at school and that works fine. Nvidia console is still included in this builds, and I'm glad its standard.
Now I've noticed Kernel Aduitor is no longer available in the appstore, and is over 2 years old. Is there a better kernel auditor app for changing the governors? My tablet is a e-book reader currently, I could happily downclock it to get more out of the battery.
I hope you find your solution. I wouldnt expect too much more development for this (in before lineageos16.0 becomes the bees knees for this device).

Ok sounds for me the Games running out of memory and the ROM cant handle it. You could try to change the Low Memory Killer Settings. For this you need Root Access and with the Kernel Manager App from the PlayStore you can easily change those Settings it even have some Presets as shown on the Screenshots.
It also have Settings like KMS which reduce the Memory Usage too and you can set the Read Ahead Buffer Size.
I think it may need some tinkering with those settings to find the perfect ones.

I agree with Scavenger87, I've also tested Saint2k 14.1 & 15.1, AEX 5.8 & 6.7. By far the most usable is Saint2k 14.1 the second time I've loaded it up (so far).
AEX 5.8 has outstanding deep sleep battery life but the random reboots to the OS or TWRP in the middle of doing something eventually had me loading up Saint2k 14.1, which was stable but ate battery at idle despite running the BitOb K12-002 kernel.
So I tried Saint2k 15.1 but had a lot of problems launching apps and also RR, then wiped & flashed AEX 6.7 which seemed to have even more problems with app launching. Both were quite laggy compared to LOS14.1 and AEX5.8 when the apps finally started to run.
Today I reflashed Saint2k 14.1 with BitOb K12-002 kernel and so far the device feels like is should - clean and snappy. It just finished being fully charged so I'll get an idea of sleep battery consumption over the next few days.

I would like to make an installation as clean as possible of 14.1.
What do I have to clean when I reinstall the rom from twrp?
And if I have to do a separate installation to make it work better, when should I do it? Thank you
For a complete wipe down you should go to TWRP -> WIPE -> Advanced Wipe and Wipe Everything apart of the Micro SD card for obvious reasons
Then install the newest build of the 14.1 by The-Saint2k which you can found here : https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=8889791610682953905
The Filename says its from the 6 October 2020 which wasnt revealed by The-Saint2k in the Forum and i wasnt able to test it out myself but i never had any new Problems with his ROMs.
I dont get the second question what do you mean with seperate installation ?

Some zip file that improves performance, or the operation of the tablet or rom.
Ok i don't have any expirience with such improvement files but i guess as early as possible maybe like the gapps direct after the rom.
Which files are you mean ? And did you try to test the Games without those packs ?
I mean because you facing instability issues..

My installation was only of the rom and gapps.
But there are times that they recommend you install some more package from twrp to improve the functioning of the tablet. As for example the one from aex 5.8 there is one to use fast loading (or so I understood).
