TWRP - Verizon HTC One (M8)

3 of my roms that I backed up failed to restore, not sure why that is happening often or at all. Im on 2.8.0.4, I can flash and backup roms just fine just when restoring i run into issues. 2 of the roms were the same with diff dates, and the last one was a diff rom.
any reason that this is happening?
suggestions?
Thanks

Don't know about 2.8.0.4 but I'm on 2.8.0.3 and have done several successful restores. Perhaps just a bad recovery flash? I'd re-Download and reinstall recovery

reflashed to 2.8.1.0 directly from the twrp website and still having the same issues.
Any suggestions?

Having the same problem. On 2.803. I can install and backup but I get on restore, failed, E: no partition selected for restore. Twrp is driving me crazy on this phone.

Problem restoring nandroid backups?

Helllo everyone, I have problem in restoring nandroid backups generated by CWM 5.0.2.0
When I restore backup, I get boot loops and cleaning up dalvik cache and cache wont help. First i thought it maybe a random error but it has happened even after lot of tries. I dont have a faulty sd card.
The backup i was trying to restore was of oxygen 2.3.2 with a theme installed + some apps
Can anyone suggest a a solution?
If you are getting bootloops then sorry to say the backup is not a healthy one, you need to reflash ROM. I also had problems with themes installed, now I made a backup keeping everything stock with apps.
Oxygen has inbuilt app2sd script. This causes problems many times. I would recommend restoring the system first, boot it up den restore both data and sdext.

Switch to twrp or amonra(if I'm not mistaken amonra can restore cwm backups).

if Im not mistaken, we can flash a recovery within a recovery right?

Yes, just download xxx.zip and flash, no problems, also they are very stable if you are wondering...

You could have an error, like bad block, in your internal memory. To rule that out, install some other ROM fresh & see if you get errors.

If the backup isn't restoring, then you should try restoring the backup, then reflashing the rom. I would recommend switching to amon ra recovery or twrp since they don't have that problem and imho they're better.
It seems the theme I installed had some problems since they replace system files such as framework-res.apk , settings.apk etc.
I flashed clean oxygen, installed lot of apps, created and restored the backup and it seems to work flawlessly now.

[Q]Backups will not work with clockwork mod anymore please help

I tried installing cyanogen mod 10.1 and it was acting ridiculous just contiously showing boot logo so then I decided to format the sd card and try it again, still did not work. Then I formatted my sd card again and then tried to restore a backup but it stops at system, tried it 4 differnet times and one time from another memory card and it got farther and it just stops at /data and says error and then it just will not work. Anybody else having this problem?
cm10 install jelly bean on your system. so you may need to install a stock rom or go back to stock. also before you do anything you need to select usb debugging as cm10 has it off by default, otherwise you wont be able to do anything at all.
Still need help...

Have you tried to Odin back to stock using one of the leaked firmware files for the P3113?

formatting sd card will not work...
you got to boot in recovery mode and clear data, cache before and after rom install.
then you will no problem.
Also did that toward the dalvik

Where are you storing your back-ups ? Did you at any point change or update to a new CWM recovery ? I ran into a problem when I formatted my sd and updated to a newer version of CWM.
My back-ups ended up being deleted, and I started over. Formatted sd card, formatted system, data, cache - reinstalled the latest version of CWM, and have not had a problem since.
It worked for me - cannot take credit, or expect it to work for everyone - but, it is what I did
please use any details above at your own risk - do not know if anything can happen, but prefer to let you know
good luck
Isn't it so that u have to put your backup on the internal sdcard in the folder SDCard/Clockeworkmod/backup ?
That was my problem with a backup...after ireinstalled and put it in this folder my backup worked...

I've always stored my back-ups on external SD, it is an option in CWM

Clockworkmod failing...help

Hey all,
Recently, I had an issue with the SD card in my skyrocket. Phone will get stuck at custom boot screen for a while. After finally booting, I noticed I had to reinstall some apps...not all.
Anyways,
Right after this happened, I noticed that I could no longer perform a clockwork mod backup as I have done with no issues. It gets stuck randomly during the system files backup state. What can I do to fix this?
I have tried many things, including fix per, flash new cwm version and format new card and copy over all files previously other. Nothing seems to work.
Any help is appreciated...
Thanks

I would flash back to stock reload the whole initial bootloader and stock recovery then go and redo the actual superuser then put on the custom recovery try TWRP or you can try cwm again nothing against skaters CWM twrp is just easier for me
Ahh, was not familiar with twrp and have always used cwm. However, after your reply and downloading and flashing it, I must say I love the GUI and ease of use.
Anyways,
I flashed it and did perform a backup. While I did get two errors, it did actually complete and I believe it did save data to this SD card. Should I worry about the errors though?
What's the difference between this from recovery tool and cwm? Still can't get cwm to backup after that SD card issue.
Thank you much for quick reply

Should I worry about the two errors even if it did complete?
Also, how do you restore?
I tested by booting to twrp and hit the restore button. I browsed to directory on SD card where backup is but not sure what file to chose?
Thanks again...

I don't use twrp but shouldn't the backup be named after the time/date it was created. If that's true then you should know which backup to choose by looking at the time/date.
I'm thinking the folders for the failed backups are also there..

Restoring a nandroid backup

I am currently on CWM touch recovery v14.4.6. If I want to a restore a nandroid backup, do I perform the following steps before I hit the restore button?
1. wipe data/factory reset
2. wipe cache partition
Any guidance is greatly appreciated.
Sure why not
Sent from my SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
If you're restoring a nandroid it doesn't make any real difference what you do. As long as you don't wipe the the nandroid

For a full restore I wipe system/data/cache. I've never had a single issue restoring.

Thanks for the response. I don't see the wipe system in CWM touch, only factory data and cache.

It would be format system in cwm if I remember right. Haven't used cwm since twrp came out.

Yeah it's the same. So I should have said I format system/data/cache. Do those and you'll be fine.
Just remember that you have to flash the radio separate if you need to change radios. Nandroids to not contain the radio / modem. If you want to keep the same radio / modem, then you won't have to do anything except flash the nandroid.
I have problems restoring lately. I use sk8ers cwm latest and when restoring I get system could not be restored. I did backup pre load. I use the externel SD card to backup. Md5 sum checks out fine or appears to check out fine.
Normally I wipe just as if I was installing a fresh rom before restore. I have restored backups without wiping and they work fine. Just gives me piece of mind especially if I encounter any issues.

Have you resolved the issues? I got error messages when I tried to do a nandroid backup with preload option checked. So, I decided to do a normal nandroid leaving out the preload and got no errors. I haven't tried to do a restore yet afraid that I might have the same issues as you.
I do believe that my backups got corrupted maybe from just not unmounting from pc properly as I just un plug it most the time. I lost the backups but still got titanium so no big loss. I change roms like I do underwear.

I've always had problems backing up/restoring from external SD. Try moving your backup to internal SD, should work fine.

Twrp recovery problem.

I flashed an update to Vanir a little while ago. Dirty first and it hung. So I rebooted back into recovery and full wiped and flashed again and still no go.
So back to recovery to restore except now twrp doesn't see the internal memory. States as 0 and unable to mount. No backups or nothing.
So I start sweating a little bit but I had saved some ROMs on the ext SD which I could flash. Flashed a good one and I'm back but booting back to twrp its still not seeing internal memory. Its not wiped cause I can see it in file explorer.
Do I need to reflash twrp or try clockwork. Never had something like this happen before.
Thanks

Reflashed Twrp and everything is back. Unsettling how it can get borked that easily.
