Did the platform.xml fix to enable external sd write, but then got "not enough space.
Hello all. I couldn't post this as a reply to anything (not enough posts) so I put a new thread here to share my experience for the possible benefit of others with the same problem.
I have a rooted T-Mobile Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition (SM-P607T) running stock kitkat 4.4.2 (uvuane2 fw). I did the platform.xml manual fix to enable external sd card writing, but in every file manager in which I tried to move a file (root explorer, ES, even TW My Files) only a few MB would move and then I would get an insufficient space error. I knew this couldn't be right as I was using a 32gig sandisk with almost nothing on it. I had previously used this card in my Note 2 SGH-T889 also running 4.4.2, which had created the "Android" and "lost.dir" folders on the card. I wondered if something in those folders was interfering with write, or perhaps a filesystem issue. So I formatted the external sd from settings and bingo, the write suddenly worked! Anyone have any thoughts as to how and why?
Cheers...Kittie
(Correction: In ES and My Files, I got insufficient space error, but in Root Explorer, I got the "restricted write access 4.4.2 nothing we can do etc." popup.)

[Q] unusual ext sd problem

Hi. I am a new member. I have a Galaxy Note 2 16gb. I upgraded to kit Kat 4.4 and have had a real problems since. I have a 64gb sandisk external SDXC card and can not add, delete or modify the contents in any way either on the device, connected to laptop windows 7 by USB or by putting the card in the laptop. All existing info is readable only. I researched and rooted my phone successfully. I then followed instructions to add the media rw line in write external storage in permissions which was successfully changed. Still no ability to add or modify files on the external card. Specifically, if I delete a file or folder on the ext card it shows as deleted, but after a reboot the file is returned. The same if I add a file to the card, either by transfer on the phone using "My Files" or EX3 File Explorer or by connecting to my laptop, the added file shows up on the ext card and can be opened but disappears after rebooting. I can't find any explanations on the net and am looking for any 128gb help or suggestions. Incidentally I have the same problem with my unrooted Note 10.1 2014 Ed on kit Kat 4.4. Many thanks for any assistance.

It's probably the card is not compatible.

Thanks, but the card worked fine before 4.4.
I am having the same problem on my ASUS me176cx. I have tried to follow every post I can find, but nothing has worked. SDfix, editing the platform.xml file, and tried to confirm folder permissions everywhere I could find. I don't know what else to try and it is starting to get to me. If someone would help me to figure out how to fix this, I would be eternally grateful.

[Q] Updated to 5.1 and having problems with external 64GB SD card

Since updating to 5.1 (latest BlissPop ROM) from 4.4, I've run into a lot of issues with my external SD card (SanDisk 64GB Ultra, also tried 64GB Extreme).
Unable to install apps from apk/amazon app store if they have permissions for the SD card
Unable to move apps to SD under Manage Apps
Inconsistent write ability to SD.
After a lot of googling, I've seen that there's the issue with platform.xml (adding media_rw to WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE), that the SD card needs to be formatted as NTFS and/or renamed. I've tried these without success. I can use Folder Mount to move app files but this doesn't fix the installing apps from the amazon store. I can unmount the sdcard, install and then remount but this is a bit ridiculous.
Are there any solutions that allow the external SD to work consistently and without constant hassle? I rely quite heavily on the additional storage.
Thanks,
-m
I had the same problem with a SD card from Sandisk 64 GB with my Shield Tablet on lollipop. She worked flawessly and a day, I wasn't able to write on it sometimes, some files had disapear, I couldn't mount.... Check your SD card first. Mine was HS. And be aware to make it writable, lollipop don't allow permissions. You must be rooted for that.

I'm sorry, I don't know what you mean. Or how to verify the card is writable. I can write to it using a file explorer with root access, but that's about it.

SD card weird name eg. 5488-9976 instead of ExtSdCard & write problems on SWD card

SD card weird name eg. 5488-9976 instead of ExtSdCard & write problems on SWD card
Hello, I noticed that my SD card doesn't have a name like in my Note 2. Instead, it gets some weird number.
Is ot possible to change that name?
I have rooted the phone, so if it's a mount name, please tell me how to change this mount name.
Also, I have problems writing to the SD card due to rights. There was a fix for previous Android versions, but I haven't seen any for Android 6.0. Anyone can help with that?
(Yes, I searched and searched, but couldn't find anything useful, only questions, no answers)
The same SDfix apps that worked in previous versions should still work on Marshmallow (I used it with my Nexus 6P).
I also think it's a Marshmallow thing with the random numbers being the mount point, as my brother's Moto X Play does the same thing.

I have the same strange mount point (well, not identical but similar). Must be how MM mounts external storage.
Re: writing to the card, I think it might depend on the app. For example, in TiBu I had to change "Storage Provider" under "Backup Folder Location" to "DocumentProvider storage", then select the external sd, and then afterwards selected TiBu's folder. Other than that I've had no problems writing to external storage (also tested through MediaMonkey, which happily wrote to the storage).
that's totally normal working for ext SD on MM, no bug, no issue

Maybe not a bug, but the rights are a serious issue!
eg: BtSync cannot access every folder, so cannot sync everything.
Foldermount has no write access to folders I created myself.
It's completely unacceptable and, I tried previous kitkat fix, but got an error that WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE entry was not found.
edit: I sort of solved it with this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...2016-01-18-t3296266/post64869668#post64869668

Unable to write data on MicroSD Card after update

Hello to everyone.
2 days ago I received via OTA samsung software update, everything goes well and the update installed succesfully. But yesterday I realized that I was unable to write data on the MicroSD card, my first finding was the camera, the storage switch to memory device when I took a picture, and when I tried to record a video, an error appears and the camera app close.
I tried to create a folder with the file manager but it's not possible, I can't create, edit or delete anything on the SD card, only read. I already tried to unmount and re-mount but not worked for me, also I executed a formating process but the problem still.
The SD Card on the PC works just fine.
Any suggestions to follow?
Thanks in advanced!
Best regards!
Hi. Try to copy all from a sd card to pc and do format in the phone. If the phone will see the card next copy all to sd card. Maybe it help.

bump an old thread, i'm confronting this problem, has a solution been found so far?
i did various searches and found the following links:
ExtSD Fix - a note in there says is Marshmallow is not supported yet
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/fix-extsd-fix-v1-0b-2016-01-18-t3296266
a web showing platform.xml fixes for 4.4 (K), however, it seem this same fix wouldn't fix S7 with MM
http://android-revolution-hd.blogspot.sg/2015/01/how-to-unlock-external-sd-card-writing.html
i tried searching for WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE apparently the string is not even found in platform.xml on S7 with MM
other threads from s7 edge highlighting a similar problem

http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/help/write-to-sd-card-t3328704
this workaround for titanium backup works and it is good
http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/help/external-sd-card-write-permission-t3341613
but it seemed most of other apps / file explorers with READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permissions still can't write to the external SD card
note that the stock 'My files' explorer can write / create folders in the SD card, but if u try a 3rd party app / explorer, nothing gets created on the SD card. This shows that it is a permission problem, perhaps "My files" has system permissions and not simply READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE. But that would be 'overwhelming' for a file explorer app to get full unlimited permissions to all resources just to write files / create folders on the external sd card
has anyone successfully made external SD card writable by (older) 3rd party apps simply editing/adding entries in platform.xml?
i tried it didn't seem successful. note that since 4.4 (K) i'd think most apps / explorers has requested READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE. the trouble is that with S7 MM and the recent update. it seemed even READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE is not adequate to write / edit files on the external SD card, e.g. not possible to create a new folder on the external SD card

Android 10/MIUI 12 can't write to micro sd card with AIMP after granting permission.

I have problem that i can't find answer to anywhere.
I recently installed new 128GB sd card. I wanted to delete some mp3 file (i will be doing that quite often now) and Aimp asked for permission to do so, and popup from android came out, with internal storage. I switched to sd and clicked ”use this folder” on root directory of sd, but i still can't delete files as i don't have write permission. Aimp still asks for write permission but now root directory of sd has no 'use this folder button' it shows up after i go to any folder and then back up, but it changes nothing, i still can't write to sd.
I have identical situation with ttorrent.
What i can do to change that? It's extremely annoying.
I granted permissions in apk setting for writing in memory too.
Same issue for me. It was on Android 9, and it is on Android 10 also(
