Dearth of case options... - X 2014 Accessories

Does it surprise anyone that there are so few options for cases with a flagship phone that has been out for over a month? I am looking at common manufacturers like Rearth and Ringke and coming up short. At least I can be reasonably content with the Gelli cases and the diztronic I bought. Looking at the Spigen site, and seeing the wealth of options for the Nexus 6, a phone that likely will only attract an extremely niche audience (even more niche than general Nexus users, of which I used to be one), I was really annoyed and surprised that they aren't doing cases for the Moto X.

I'm sure a lot of manufacturers are just waiting to see how well the X is selling before they invest time and money into designing cases. A lot of the big players were late out of the gate with the original X too.

OK, that perspective gives me hope.

I emailed Rearth USA and just got a reply about the Moto X cases. They are currently in development and are expected soon. Just FYI.

I'd personally love to see something from Urban Armor Gear or Nillkin Border Armor.

UAG's new designs don't excite me as much as their older ones did. I've switched to Magpul for my favorite case, have one for my N5 and have one on order for my iPhone 6. It's highly unlikely they'll make a Moto X case though, unfortunately.

I never needed any armor type hard case. Just got the Trudia lightweight tpu case. All of my phones have had these similar lightweight tpu cases and have survived drops... so far.

Probably not much. The Moto X isn't a very popular phone.

Decent Otterbox deal
I got my Moto X last night. I just snatched up an Otterbox Defender on EBay for $40 shipped. Not too bad for a new Otterbox with beltclip.
How are you guys liking your phones? I got mine in the Cyber Monday deal direct from Motorola and got the Lollipop update immediately. Lots to love about this phone so far.

One of the very few reasons I miss ever having an iPhone was for the Magpul field case I had. Maybe one day the stars will align and I will have an android phone for which they make a case! *typed from iPad rMini with Magpul field case* [emoji12]

I just got my Field case in today for my iPhone 6. Been waiting well over a month for the damn thing but obviously it was worth the wait. So now both my N5 and my iPhone have them. Awesome.
Been meaning to get one for my iPad mini. I'm assuming you love it, right?

Hoping something from verus (iron shield) comes out for this phone. In the mean time this i-blason tpu is perfect with the dimple cutout.

Glad I could help. ;p It makes holding the mini a lot more pleasant than holding it naked, sadly (damned slippery aluminum and sharp edges).
Gonna grab a TPU case in the mean time for my ordered X 2014; crossing my fingers for Magpul or UAG.

I have the i-blason case and its pretty nice, buttons are a bit harder to push now but its not a deal breaker.

Diztronic are the only TPU cases I'll ever buy. I have one for every one of my phones. Gonna order a Supcase hybrid case as well. I have one for my 2013 Moto X. They aren't the most comfortable case to hold but they look cool and they are cheap enough. I'd recommend looking into that as well as the Diztronic TPU.

Yeah, I have diztronic for my Moto x 2013 atm (and one in the mail for the new phone). Had the unicorn beetle for a little bit on the 2013 but wasn't a fan of the cheap-feeling plastic and the poor molding (read: sharp) on the bumper area.
EDIT: UAG case isn't going to happen. Email response from inquiry:
Hi ******,
Thanks for reaching out. We currently don't have plans for the Moto X 2nd Gen ; however, the landscape of our product road is a constantly evolving picture and this may become an option for us in the future. We truly appreciate your comments and suggestions which help us to provide better products and services.

Yeah, UAG only makes cases for the most popular phones. They had actually designed one for the 2013 X but ended up scrapping it. I don't even care about them anymore though, I am in love with Magpul. I'll shoot Magpul an email about the X, though I highly doubt they'll make a case for it. I was surprised that they made an N5 case though, so who knows.

Have Tried to find which case do people prefer - Between Rearth Ringke and Diztronic. The owners of both seem to love it, but dint find any comaring one with another - need help in deciding which one to buy( Both available on Amazon)
Those who've used/have Both - Please give the specific details of why/if you like one over the other.
And, Color choice - Grey vs Metallic Black?
Thanks

I have Skinomi skin protector on with Ringke. The top-left corner is a little too tight and it pushes the skin protector up a bit. Regardless, I still love the case a lot.
Anyone have any thoughts on Nillkin vs Ringke vs Diztronic?
Have 2 Ringkes and a black Diztronic, of the 3, the white Ringke is by far my favourite. The Diztronic is nice, too but I find it takes away from the visual clean lines of the Nexy where as the Ringkes are so minimal, you don't notice it. Will likely be selling the Dizt shortly.

Of the Ringkes, I have one black and one white. I pondered on the grey as well but did't want to buy too many. The white is simply stunning.
Ringke All the Way!!!
I have both and I'd have to say Ringke is the best of the two. I especially like it because of how clean it is, looking that is. Keeps the phone looking very sleek.
Also, Rearth Ringke has very good customer service. At least with me they have. I pre-ordered the original one, and it had the slight manufacturer defect. I just e-mailed them through amazon asking for a replacement, not a refund. They had the revised edition in my mailbox on December 12th, day after they started shipping. They didn't charge me a dime, and even told me to keep the defected one and how to 'bend' it to correct it. I only sent a single e-mail, and they honored their product. Don't really see that much for accessory providers, at least in my experience.
Edit:
I have an xoskin on my phone with this case, and it doesn't mess with the screen protector at all. The xoskin is actually the best screen protector I've bought so far. I doesn't even feel like it's there. Smooth glossy/glass like movement when swiping.

I vouch for this. Except I contacted them directly towards emails and no response (maybe they dont check those emails? .. not sure, but i got one from [email protected] but I eventually gave in and just called them and the lady was really nice) same case scenario over here. Got it replaced without question, received it Saturday.
Using the Black one here. Eco packaging very nice as well.

I usually always get a Diztronic cases for my devices, until I replace it with a Mercury Pearl Tpu, as they become available outta Korea.
This time since there wasn't any Diztronic yet, so I went for the Nillikin and I am very impressed.
I may still buy a Diztronic eventually if I don't like the Poetic Atmosphere or a Mercury Pearl doesn't come out soon.

Cut corners as....? The Slim Rearth case looks exactly the same on the S3. it's their newer model of their cases whereas GN had everything covered on the sides.
Definitely not junk, I prefer the new style over the old. But the old one provides more protection, the new one i like the material of it a lot more.

Where are the cases?

Pre ordered the Moto X Pure. But looking for a nice tpu or bybrid case. Usually, there's a lot of cases available for a phone before the phone releases. But not the Pure/Style. I know there's a a few on amazon etc... But those cases are junk. Cheap made and will fall apart in a week. I see that incipio has one and ugly otterbox. But never really liked incipio and otterbox. But where are, seidio, Griffin, Belkin, UAG, Spigen???
I doubt UAG will have a case for the moto x pure but I would love it if they did.

Most of the high quality, big name companies didn't make for the previous 2nd Generation model, so they probably aren't for this. Maybe they have some kind of pay to play scheme and Moto isn't paying.

People seem to like the variant of it for the Moto G or whatever. The Amazon reviews are about the best feedback you're going to get for the moment. I bought a number of $3-4+shipping cases myself. I don't feel like buying a $30 Incipio case at the moment... And my old phone is still using a cheap case I put on it back in 2012, so I've had good experiences with the cheaper ones anyway.

It will hold. I have had that case for quite a few phones. It is just a bit bulky. I like it for phones under 5 inches and it was OK on the 2014 moto X.

Has anyone seen any cases like the flip shell for the Moto G? Most of these add to the already bulky look of the phone (and don't protect the screen).
I ordered this one (http://amzn.com/B013HSX5L2). I'm actually looking forward to the transparent back. I got the Ash wood back.
I ordered this case before my MXP arrived and had it waiting. I wish it was a little snugger fit, but it'll do for $8 shipped until something better comes along.

I just got my Moko. I'm not a fan. So far it seems well made, but the holster is backwards when I wear it on my left side.
In addition, it's off-center, so I'm always putting the phone in the wrong way, and the phone can't go in with screen facing out, which makes the the much more stable holster clipstand useless.

Hi,
Just received the Incipio DualPro case. Fit is good, buttons respond well.
Decent dual layer protection. Back is a little slick/slippery.
I'll use it for a while and see how I like it,

I got the incipio octane and i really like it. The incipio dual pro is too slick to hold on to though
Does anyone have a pic of the Incipio Octane with frost back?
I'll give you a thank for it lol
Are there any bumpers besides the one that comes in the box..preferably TPU? The one that comes with the phone is a hard plastic that makes the vibration super loud on a desk, but I also don't want to cover the case with a full back.

Moto X Pure Cases from Diztronic

For those of you feeling the pain with me from manufacturers not producing cases for the Moto X Pure, I reached out to Diztronic yesterday. They produce really well-designed and high quality TPU cases. I have never owned a shoddy case from them. They provided good news that cases for this device will be coming soon.
Sweet, I will probably getting one.
This is awesome, Diztronic has by far the best cases I have used. My last two phones (OPO and iPhone 6 Plus) I used their cases.

Great news. I purchased multiple cases for my devices. And one of them is always Diztronic. Simple, clean, always a perfect fit, just enough protection without bulking up a phone too much. And generally reasonably priced on Amazon.

Here is a video of the same case (i-blason) for the galaxy s6 for reference. I wish it was thinner but otherwise it looks very good. Probably the best to show off your motomaker design. I wonder if the clear tpu will get discolored.

I've been rocking the Ringke Fusion on my N4 for about 2.5 years now. Great case. Although I'm now hoping they release a version for the 6p with a solid black bumper + clear/smoke back. I don't like the clear bumper style they also carry, just looks a bit tacky to me.

I always found the N4 one to be ridiculously fat. The polycarbonate layer adds like 3mm easily to an N4 which wasn't that thin in its generation.

Yeah it does, but stylistically I prefer it; exposure in the back, protection on the sides. Its simply the clear sides that i dont like. We'll see. Might just go for one of the Adopted cases for now. Ringke cases are cheap enough that i wont mind switching later. Hopefully they will be thinner than the old N4 one though :S.
I've used them on the N6, note 4, and xperia Z3, and they have all been beautifully thin. some of the thinnest cases I have ever used. and they have even survived drops on cement floors in places like walmart and lowe's lol. i never tried the one on the nexus 4 so i can't compare.
of course I am talking ONLY the Ringke fusion. I have never tried any of their other style of cases but i hear they aren't as good.
Bleh they just emailed me telling me they won't meet their Oct 30th ship date. Looks like Nov 30th is the real date now. The thing that bugs me about this is that they decided to mark it as shipped so they get the money then they emailed me. I guess I will have to get a cheap TPU case or something in the meantime while I wait.

Hope so! The fusion was my favorite N6 case. Tested over 10 cases before settling on it too.
I get the feeling that so many manufacturers used leaked images to base their designs on, and next thing you know... SURPRISE! Laser rangefinder. Back to the drawing board.
I asked them if they are canceling all cases for the 6p and it seems they are

Same with the U.S. From the looks of their twitter, they're still making the case https://twitter.com/RingkeOfficial/status/652116810372804610

It's back on Amazon with 11/30 as the ship date
So I emailed them asking if they were going to sell the case still or what. They told me they are trying to resolve issues with their manufacturer. In response to that I asked if it was worth putting in an order and this is what they said:
"Honestly, I would wait to avoid complications. We know that we are keeping the original in stock day of November 30th so far. So I would say place your order closer to the beginning of November. I hope that this information helped."

Bummper *only* case

Does anyone know of a bumper only case? Meaning it's just an edge around the phone but nothing on the back?
Rhinoshield makes one and it's great. But, it won't be available for a little while. Not sure when but they have an email sign-up at their website.

I've had it for my previous pixels and it's a great case. It's saved me too with some serious drops on concrete.

I just dropped a quick message to RhinoShield's support team and their guess is that it'll be ready around "early November"

I don't know if I trust them with their estimate.
I got the bumper for my nexus 6P and pixel 2xl and it was my favorite.
I wanted it for my 3xl, which I ordered on announcement day last year, but by the time it was available I had bought a slew of other cases and didn't feel like spending any more. Especially since I only had plans on keeping the phone for a year.
I once again ordered the 4xl on announcement day and I'm trying to be patient but I've already ordered 3 other cases so they need to get with it and finish the bumper case already. A discount code would be nice too as it's not the cheapest case in the world.
Just checked their website again, looks like their bumper cases are now available for pre order with shipping around the end of November (so long goes the "early november" time frame they told me)

Totally agree with you here. Their website is now open for pre orders for the 4 XL but doesn't ship till the end of November, which is far too late for most people since other people would already have gone with some other case at this point.
I got a clear case temporarily hoping the bumper one will come out within the next week or so but looks like that won't happen at all :/
Just pre-ordered mine. Said Nov 29 estimated ship date.
+1 to everyone that recommended. Had it for my pixel 3xl and it's the best. Only negative the white won't stay white forever.
FYI. Case shipped today!

Please let us know how you like it.
I'm a big fan of these but as I've stated previously, I've already purchased (and gotten free) some other cases and I just don't need another.
And I'm never spending $40 so I have to pay the $5 shipping, which is annoying for a $25 item.
TIA

For something other than Rhinoshield, check out XXXXX. It's a case with a transparent back. I am assuming you didn't want a full case in order to preserve the looks of the phone. In that case, this could be a good alternative.
It has protection on the edges so that the phone can take a few drops easily. Plus its cheaper than Rhinoshield.

Thanks for the rec.
I was sent the Schnail case that some got for free and that's my "protection against all circumstances" case. It's surprisingly great!
I just ordered the Rhinoshield bumper case and should have it by Wednesday and that was my favorite on a few of my recent google phones.
I'm using my google fabric case since Saturday and I like it too.
I also have the ESR Mimic, which might be my favorite. The combo of slimness, tempered glass back and grippy tpu bumper is really nice.
I know, at the very least, the bumper will yellow eventually but it is a very nice case.
I also got a deal on the Totallee slim frosted clear and it's pretty cool too. Absolutely the slimmest case ever.
I obviously have a sickness that's shared by many on these forums. Please pray for me. Lol.
MOD EDIT: AFFILIATE LINK REMOVED

I used the Rinke on my Pixel 3XL and never had any issues. Dropped a few times, no damage.
I've tried a few cases with this Pixel 4XL but I'm back to the Rinke!
Also have the ESR mimic on order.
I got my rhinoshield case today and it's of course what you would expect. Fits perfectly and if minimal as can be. The buttons are crisp and very very easy to identify which I truly appreciate.
In short if you like a minimal bumper case that shows off your phone without taking anything away from it, look no further.
Anyone heard anything on the Ringke Onyx? Had this on my 2XL and 3XL, but they don't make it (yet) for the 4XL. The Fusion looks like too much for me and possibly a lint trap. I reached out to Ringke, but it's the weekend so won't likely hear anything back until next week. May have to start with the Spigen Rugged Armor.
I bought the UAG Plasma, its a little heavier than the Rinke but fits great and looks like it would be plenty of protection from a fall.
The crashguard has a lot more texture than last year

I absolutely agree!
So glad I ordered one. I had it for my nexus 6P and my pixel 2xl and loved it. Skipped it on my 3xl as I had too many cases and now I have it for my 4xl and the fit, look and protection is top notch. Highly recommend.
I have bought too many cases again so I try and spread them out and use them all.
I like the esr mimic. It feels and looks great with the tempered glass back.
The Totallee frosted clear case is scary thin, but feels great in your hand. Only protection is from scratches if laid on it's back.
The Schnail case I got for free and it's actually quite good. Incredible protection but I don't have much use for it.
I also got the google fabric case, which I also had for the 2xl and 3xl. It's not as good for the 4xl. The feel of the fabric is better but the fit is not as good. It's not as snug as the past 2. A little disappointing actually.
I wish they would hurry up and release it into the Amazon store. The one for the smaller 4 is there but not for the XL.
