Hey guys i recently dropped my Xperia L and the whole screen shattered.
I was literally able to move the display from its base without much effort .
Other than the display everything seems fine to me
And the phone did turn on whenever i pressed the power button
What do you guys think i should do ?
How much will it cost me to get the thing repaired
And if i cannot repair it is the phone worth something .. Like maybe a media centre
Hey,
If broken screen and digitizer, changing those two will cost about $ 100. At least that would cost in my country Colombia.

I think that you somehow ( by pressing power button as you mentioned) broke the display :/ so the only solution is to change the display by yourself or samsung custom service but i hope that im wrong!

If your screen turns out to be really broken, don't be afraid of switching it yourself.
Just don't make the same mistake I made (twice). Buy the new display from a store that's specialised in mobile spareparts, not from ebay. If the display doesn't look exactly like the one you took out of your phone, send it back. I had a bent and scratched one and one that had lower resolution and no brightness control. Insane, who hopes to make profit from that?
This page shows you how to disassemble a G3: http://www.formymobile.co.uk/i5800disassembly.php I recommend using a guitar pick for all steps.

thanks for trying to help turboblaz, but i have already disassembled the handset and inspected it from all sides, there is no bleeding ,crack or scratch of any kind on it and moreover the placement of the power button is such that it wont harm the display even if its pressed with a moderate to hard pressure.

thanks martialaw ,yeah i know hw to dissamble this handset ,actually i hve done it twice before, once for replacing the menu key button and the other time for replacing the audio jack. moreover i know a good shop which sells good mobile spare parts
i had checked it with the service centre , the price of the audio jack there was 650 inr along with the replacement so i bought it from that spare shop ,it costed meh around 150 inr n works perfectly fine even after 6 months. So im guessing that the price of the lcd display at the service centre would be around 1500 inr and at the local market it would be around 500 inr,but i am just worried about its contrast and brightness as u mentioned and moreover what if the display is fine and the problem is with the board or other things.

sounds familiar. I spent 1200 inr on ebay, twice, both crap. Then 2100 inr in a proper shop, which finally looked like the original part on the circuit area. Dunno if those prices can be compared, I converted them from Euros for you. Go for a original part and try to keep the option to give it back if it turns out the error lies within another component. gl&hf
Hi guys, perhaps you might have noticed the screen on my old N5 is slightly worse for wear.
I've decided to either fix it myself or get a pro to do it (I have never had to take a phone apart or replace any hardware)
Judging by the pictures do you think I will need to replace all, LCD, digitizer and frame? Would you recommend DIY or sending it into a shop?
I would send it back to LG however I have media on it I would like to keep but have a lockscreen (which I can't interact with) so am unable to recover files.
Thanks for any help! :fingers-crossed:
the hell u did to it? did u grab a hammer and started swinging at it
Your going to need to do all 3 done..unless you dont mind the scratched frame.
I would get it done in a shop unless you have done it your self.
I have done a few glass and digitizer fixes but i tell ya aint worth the time unless you only broke it in one day and want to fix it.

I've seen those pictures months ago floating around the Web. I smell troll.
from my experience i think LCD + Digitizer + side panels come as a single piece... my lcd had a violet shade near the app drawer icon( only visible in full brightness) as i had warranty i changed free of cost... the person in the shop told with out warranty it would cost about 9500 INR(about 160$) he changedlcd + digitizer + side panels of my N5

Yeah I've no experience so I don't think I'll run the risk of ruining it even further.

Unfortunately I am not trolling. I have a Galaxy S 5 now but would like the Nexus as a spare. If I go to a music festival or something where I'm more likely to lose it or break it.

That's not too bad at all, I'm in the UK though and everything costs a bomb.
I'll call LG in the morning when they open and let you guys know how much it'll cost! I'm assuming around £120.

LG do it for £155 ($265!!??) and will wipe the phone which is no good for me!
I have found a 3rd party phone shop in Edinburgh which will replace the screen with 90 days warranty for £120 and no wipe.
Cheers for your help
Hi everyone, i've noticed that this device is very very weak on the body ..
Let me exain this correctly..
2 days ago i drop my A9 from my bed to the floor ( 50 cm) and the screen turn into a very ugly face... i mean pixel issue like old television when u search frequencies..
I was very scary and i noticed that i just needed to make a pression on the screen to get back the clean pixels and the normal screen..
I think i must get back the A9 to HTC to get another one or repair it..
But this thing is very very weird...
First time i get this kind of things from an HTC device...

I beleive It was a big fall which causes the big issue
If it's unlocked u.s version then it's covered under oh'oh warranty
HTC A9 is very beautiful device but the glass is curved 100% covering the front facing of the phone
This gives absolutely no chance if it falls on any side of the front
Good luck

It was very weird because the falling was very small.. i was amazed when i saw how much this device is weak..my old m7 had a big fall and never turn this way.. personally i'm from france andhtc told me to send the device to get it repair but personally i prefer to get a new one.. but it's impossible in my case because i bought it on Cdiscount and they told me that the warranty is available only for the htc themselves..
Now i wonder if i send it to repair or keep the device and buy a case :/..

Hi there
So after years of laughing at people with cracked screens, now karma did its work. I dropped my OPO and the screen cracked, now it doesn't respond to touches anymore.
I can see the lockscreen, launch the camera via double pressing the power button and I can reboot. That's it.
Now the question is if I should replace my screen or just spend a few bucks more and get a new phone. I would definitely go for the new screen, but I would like to know your opinions on how likely it is, that I will end up with a nice and smooth working phone after replacing the screen.
Is there a way to find out if it's only the screen thats broken?
Thanks
It's not the easiest phone to change lcd if it's your first time but it's not very hard as well. Plenty of videos out there. All you need is not skills, just patience. Of course it's w worth if you only spend 50 dollars. Buy one with a new frame attached so you are out of more trouble and after all it will be like having a brand new phone. Be very careful when taking out the motherboard so you don't rip the volume and power flex cables. Usually it's only the screen I think you don't have to worry if something else is broken.

thanks mate, I think you're right. I'm gonna go for the new screen.
Go for a screen with frame, only screen replacing is a hassle in this phone.

Cracked & killed my screen too, and just sent it off to OnePlus for a fix. It's only $84 so it might be worth it.
Recently I acquired an xperia z3. They told me the screen and the back was changed. As I power on the phone I noticed that volume down button doesn't works, so I cant flash anything. When you power on the phone the screen works correctly, when its on for 30 min, it starts to go crazy, firstly you are unable to access to the notification panel. I make a touch screen test and the top is unusable. Then it becomes much more crazy because the notification panel comes down and begins ghost touches at the top.
I have done many hard resets.
The flex buttons is no problem as it is not expensive, but don't want to change the screen and have the same problem....
Do you think this screen is wrong o maybe the problem is in the main board?
Contact the guy that sold you the phone and ask for who sold/repaired the screen, the digitizer assembly is defective. It sometimes happens to certain panels. It has to be replaced (if you live in Europe the item have 2 years of warranty)

The guy that sold me doesn't answer me... so I going to try to repair it. But I wasn't sure if it was going to be the digitizer or another problem...I was thinking to change only the digitizer but not sure for the moment.
Thank you!
If you open the phone, you should see the buttons on the left, but you have to take a few things first, you may find the replacement part online for a few euros
For the digitizer, well, you should be able to find one for around 40-60 check the reviews to know something about the quality and always test it before applying the adhesive as some sellers do not offer warranty after it has been installed
