app which cover rename and manage pins and saving roads in google map - General Questions and Answers

Hi is there any app which can edit the name of dropped pin on the google maps. Its usefull if the pin contain the name of the street but sometimes I need to write down something about this place. For example if I am in london I will not have internet there and I could want to visit many attractions and want to write down on the pin which attraction is located there.
Another usefull thing is route save. Again if I am in london I am not going to have mobile internet with me because its too expensive and because of that I want to find my routes on the google maps when I am at home and I have wifi and save them on my phone so I can use it latter when I am offline. I am dissapoined from google maps, how is it possible so famouse app to have so little functionalities! Can someone help me with some 3rd party app with this functions?

[APP REQ] Navigation Assistant

Hello everyone! I am hoping I can either get some ideas on what I could install, or maybe inspire someone to develop an app
I am a frequent traveler and I started out in my job always bringing my phone, mp3 player and gps. I started consolidating and with my old Blackberry and ditched my mp3 player. When I got my Motorola Droid I was excited to ditch my gps as well!
The problem is I am so used to using my Tomtom. I would click navigate, find a destination either by entering in the address, or going to a point of interest and either searching for it specifically (like target) or looking at a list (like food).
With Google Navigation is there doesn't appear to be a defined "front end". I can use a massive amount of apps to get me there, like Yelp, YP, Where, Google Places, or just a Google Maps search it self.
What I would like to see is a front end application that allowed me to search points of interests either in my current location or a defined location. Let me save these as favorites, show me a history of where I have been and let me search for a POI along my current defined route (ie, finding food along my route between the airport and hotel).
There is a free app on the market called App Launcher and while it has some great ideas, it isn't it. Am I missing something obvious? What does everyone else do?
I use telenav for this. I get it free from Sprint. Otherwise there is a fee for it.
I prefer it better than google maps for this reason. It also makes it easier to control the route I wish to take to get there.

Gps location software for android

Anyone know of any free software that allows you to enter a destination gps coordinates. The software will then give the direction to that point and distance and log the gps points along the route taken (like a cookie crumb trail). I don't need it to be overlaid on a map but better if it was. I was thinking something like a hiking app would be ideal but I need this to work anywhere in the world without a data connection (therefore no maps or maps stored on the phone).
Hoping to use it when I go on holiday abroad. I would configure all the points of interest from home before I leave and use the software to get to my destination whether I travel by taxi or by other means.
My searching in the market has been unsuccessful so far.

Can't check at the moment, but Ulysse Gizmo may help. It's more a GPS/Compass app, but you can add way points via a map. Possibly you could add way points at home with a connection, then just use the compass offline for navigation to the points?
As I said I can't check, wife's gone out with my phone. Might be worth a look though.
So destination by coordinate and offline maps..
Hm..

Click to collapse
Exactly. Once coordinates have been added. There shouldn't be any need to have a data connection as it will only use gps and compass to navigate to those coordinates. Perfect for when abroad as roaming data charger are a rip off.

google maps 5 can cache data, so you just cache the places you want to go, then you're good. you can also add your own waypoints right?

Sattelite view app requiring no phone signal?

Is there an app that can provide your location on screen with a sattelite view like google earth?
I need it to run from the phone's memory not downloading from the internet.
Offline navigation apps might do what you want.
Sorry is that the name of the app or a general category of apps?
If it's just the type of app are there any specific ones that would do the job?
It´s a general category, offline navigation applications.
You might try this one here: You can download Google maps contents to your phone while being at home or in the office, and on the road, use it offline.
There are a few commercial navigation apps for your HD2, such as Navigon, TomTom, CoPilot, or Garmin - I don´t know if all of them are still available "officially".

Marketplace using location in mango

Hi..
Jst received update notifications for some lg applications, when I select update, mp informs me some applications is requesting to use location services.
Anyone knows why? Jst wondering y it nds to use location services

nothing serious just follow what was ask.
Marketplace is just letting you know that those apps may want to use your location for part of their functionality - e.g. in the same way Bing maps uses your location to show where you are on a map. Another example would be a train times app using your location to show you your nearest station.
It's never usually anything to worry about, although if for example a Tetris game wants to track your location, or be able to dial numbers on your phone, or have access to your emails, etc. then you would want to know why (which is why Marketplace checks with you first for those kind of things).

How can I make an app exactly like google earth, but can store saved locations?

Hello. My name is Marshall. I am completely new to programming and making apps, but I have decided to make an app.
I want to make an app that uses google earth, but can save locations with notes.
Would it be best if I used google earth for android and edited it so I can save my current location with notes?
The use of this app will be for foraging. Picture yourself out in the forest, and you find a large flush of choice edible mushrooms. I want to be able to pull out my phone, save my location, and add a note of what I have found, where I am. This way I can look up where I found it, and return to the location later. It would be supper cool if I could add photos to this saved location, and maybe even share the location with others?
I need to pointers as to how I would start to build an app like this. Would it be a google earth addon? Or a completely new app? Can a brand new app access the same 3D maps as google earth?
Any advice or answers would be greatly appreciated. I am good with computers, I just need some direction with this project.
Marshall
