Hiding pictures in Sony album - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

All my whatsapp media is currently showing in my Sony Album and I can't seem to hide it. I used Quickpic to add .nomedia and it seems to have partially worked as the whatsapp stuff doesn't show up in Google Photos any more and when I click on folders in Sony Album they are there but there is nothing to display. However, the actual Home bit of the Album itself still shows them. I selected them and pressed "Hide" but this didn't seem to do anything. Any ideas?

Add a file called .nomedia to the folders that you do not want the mediascanner to scan.

Yeah apologies if I didn't make that clear. I did it and I must have done it right as it works for some apps

Quickpic hide works with the album app as long as its pictures on the internal memory. Rebooting might help.

All the Whatsapp pics are in internal memory, it's strange because in the Folders section of Album it has the Whatsapp Images and Whatsapp Video folders but when you click on them it says "there are no items in your collection", so the Quickpic thing did work. But then in the Home section, they still all show up. I tried a reboot and this didn't help

After you add the .nomedia, you have to go under Apps (in Settings) and clear the data for the Media Store and reboot.
.nomedia only works for "new" media. If you add it after the scanner has already found the media you have to "refresh" the Media Store.

Thanks for the advice, it worked any Album no longer pics up the photos. However, Walkman now won't pick up any of my songs (they're still on my SD card though) any idea how to solve this?

When you see "Media Store", does that refer to Sony Album (ie, Settings > Apps > Album)?
Have put ".nomedia" files in the WhatsApp image folders and seems like new WhatsApp images are no longer showing in the Album.
But the old ones are still there. Trying clearing both cache and data for Sony Album, then restarting but no effect.
Please advise, thanks.

Nevermind, I discovered "Media Storage" under Apps, which I gather that is what you were referring to.
Hadn't seen it before, as had to change tab from "Downloaded" to "All" (so found it under Settings > Apps > All > Media Storage).
Anyway, once I cleared the Data there and restarted phone (not sure if necessary), it repopulated itself* and WhatsApp photos gone from Sony Album.
(*After a scary moments where my Album showing as empty and seemed like it was lost! Just wait for it to repopulate and a photo to show up in preview window.)
As an aside, I also put .nomedia files under Pictures and Movies, so that the stock photos/videos Sony preloads don't show up either. Now Album is really just my album.
Cheers.

here's a link to MediaMonkey. I have been using it since 2006 and never needed anything else (except itunes of course). There are many apps out there that will allow you to get the cover art automatically on the Xoom. Many are listed here.

Maybe you can specify more clearly what exactly you want to do? Cubed from the market lets you fetch album art from the internet on the Xoom.
Out of interest does it rely on album art being embedded in mp3's or is there a naming convention for a jpeg image in the same folder?

I was curious how it set the album art myself. I have a lot of random tracks that were just assigned a random album art image from one of my other albums. It has nothing to do with the other tracks and they are named in no way similarly.
personally i put tracks ina folder by album and put the pic in the folder. works for me, so yes that means if i have a single it goes in its own folder
Very often programs will use the picture from "cover.jpg" or "folder.jpg" (substitute jpg with gif if necessary) when placed in the appropriate folder with the music files. I haven't tried it though since my files have the covers in the tags...
Try MP3tag.
Browse to your music folder > Select all the files by pressing Crtla + A > Right click on the the empty white box on the left panel and select add cover > Select the .jpg cover and click save on the top left hand corner.

[Q] Google Music player (Stock) Flickering

Now i have searched and searched about this problem, and the only answer i get is "Clear the data", which fixes the problem the first time i open it, but everytime after that i still have the flicker problem. It won't let me pick music because its like it just keeps reloading all my music over and over again and won't stop. Does anyone have a solution that sticks? I love the stock music player and i use Google Music Beta so i don't want to switch players, Thanks!
Hi, the app seems to do this when you add more music to your collection.
It's the application re-checking the contents of the folders, is all your music on the MicroSD card?
If so, safely remove it (tap the icon next to the clock) and remove the card from the slot.
Then remove the app data (application settings), then re-insert your card and re-start the music app, it will take a little while to re-read the MicroSD card, they are not the fastest things around.
I have 117 folders with 1578 files which amounts to 10.96G it takes just under a minute to rescan all the folders and rebuild my library.
The only issues I had with the stock player is the extreme way it manages the albums based on the mp3 tag info, it will give you a separate folder / album if the album artist is missing from some tracks.
I fixed mine on the tab with an app called iTag, it worked rather well.
Hope this helps in some way.
Thanks for the reply! all my music is actually on the internal sd of the transformer because I just got my micro sd card a week ago and have had my tablet for a while, so i already had music loaded on.
Mine does the flickering too in 3.2 stock, the version of the app is 3.0.2, were can I download the 3.0.1 apk to downgrade the app?

Sorry, man. Someone mentioned using an app called iTag to fix their issue, but I'm not sure exactly how it helped. Believe he said it had something to do with artist's names not matching up.
I've found that listing by song has no flickering involved, so gonna keep it that way until I (or someone else) either figures it out. Not much of a fan of some of the other players, so.
You should make sure all your ID3 tags are clean. For example, if you have a song artist that is Metallica and some of the files the artist name is Metallica and some are names MetallicA, where a simple case adjustment can help alleviate the issue. You need to also make sure that if one artist album has 15 songs and only 14 of them have cover art it will freak the player listing out like it's doing. Make sure all your ID3 tags are clean and precise and they all have the same cover art for each of the albums.

Problem with music albums

hi guys
I'm using an ics rom (nexusbeam 4.1) and that's my little problem:
in music players some albums are not displayed but i've copied them inside the phone memory like the others that are displayed??
with root explorer I see in the same folder all the albums but when I open music apps some albums are not present :-o
Thanks for helping!!

Are the albums you don't see inside their own folder or with songs from other albums? They might be under the album named after the folder. Do a search for the filename/song, too.
Edit: Also note, this is probably the case if there is no ID3 tags on these particular songs/albums.

thanks friend but i'm having a look at my albums
they are all ordered rightly 'cause I've always used to listen to them before even using music apps in my nexus...
as you can see in the pics they are all in folders but in my music apps they are not all displayed...
Odd. Have you tried clearing the cache for the music app?

Search the market for "Cover Art Downloader" (sorry I can't post links yet )
I had a similar problem and I was able to use this app to "force" music player apps to recognise cover art, either by downloading what it thought was the correct artwork or in my case picking images off the SD card. Worth a try!

I just used the free version - my issue was slightly different to yours in that Winamp was using the wrong album art for albums and no amount of cache clearing or messing with IDv3 tags would fix it, this app fixed it for me. Hope it works!

mediascanner issue? my music is invisible

So I installed jelly bean when it came out. (Codename Android 3.6.0 at the time of writing, but the problem persists regardless of the specific rom I'm using). I noticed that none of the music players available in the play store can find my music on my sd card. They are all in a folder named mp3, but I even tried renaming it to music - no luck. Also, the only pictures I can see in my gallery are the ones that have been made since the installation of the current rom. Does anyone have an idea how to force the mediascanner to actually scan my media? Damn, I want my media so bad

I have no idea why your music isn't being picked up. That's usually never an issue. Maybe someone else can chime in.
As for the gallery pictures not showing up. Just download Quick Pic from the Play Store. The default Android Gallery has been crying to be put of out of its misery for awhile now. It's terrible and slow. Yes, you can transfer pictures to your device and the gallery will take 5 minutes to eventually display them. Quick Pic is superior and will instantly pick up any pictures you add. No waiting involved.

Thank you for the tip, QuickPic actually solved my gallery issue, what still remains is the music list not showing up in any of the players I have tried... (Winamp, Google Play Music, Apollo, just to name a few)
check if one of the apps in use is the media scanner in a constant state of reboot.
media scanner problems often are caused by malformed jpeg file, the bug usually lies in the Exif information, you can use this tool (http://www.digitalconfidence.com/BatchPurifier.html) to remove Exif information from the file, 95% chance that everything returns to work including music and video because the media scanner is shared and if it hangs on jpeg images then can not catalog other multimedia files.
you will lose data such GPS position but the photo itself will remain intact, many have pointed at Camera360 as one of the sources of these corrupted files and I can confirm that.
I got a similar issue before and is solved by copy all media to a pc, delete the files in the phone, then move them back, see if it can help you

Alrighty. Just make sure there are none at the root of the SDcard or in folders where you want pictures to appear. Clockworkmod ROM Manager had a bug back a lil while ago where it put some .nomedia files in wrong folders, making people unable to find their music/picture.

Anybody have the solution? I am able to see pictures in gallery and videos on my MX player but no music?
I deleted nomedia (found one) and got rid of rom manager but still my music files don't show up with all the players. I can go directly to media/music via root explorer and play it though.
Go to your apps, find Media Storage, and then clear data & cache.
Download Rescan Media from the play store and run it. Wait for a bit (5 minutes should be good) and if you check in your music player(s) you should be able to see your music.
database or cache that the media scan builds is gone

I have done that and everything works fine. BUT! after a battery change or charge (plug in USB cable) the database or cache that the media scan builds is gone. Deleted or corrupted by something. Its back to the same state, no music, video, added ringtones or pics show until a rescan. What could be deleting it?

You might want to try certain media apps like a gallery app. QuickPic for example allow you to choose the location in which the app should search and show pictures from. This can be a general base location. And when you have found a picture you can go to the details and find out the exact location. Unlike the default gallery app (or how it used to be?) QuickPic shows images categorised on folders there in. For video files tr MX Player or another app that will play most formats. MX Player for example should also show all your video files on your phone in folders and the locations in detail view.
Storage analyser apps are also available. they scan your phone storage and show you how much of your storage is filled with audio/video/pics and where that is placed. A less visually attractive but in my opinion a great tool to get a clear view of where you have a lot of MB/GB's you have store is using "Storage analyser" But for finding specific file types this is not the one you need.
