Should I get the z3 in January? - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

will the problems settle by January or just get the dam beast of a phone now

Pros...
1.no need to wait too long to get Lollipop update
2.Would be cheaper than now
3.method to Root on locked bootloader could be available at that time (could also be unavailable)
Cons...
Z4 also should be around the corner by then

What problems?

Exactly, what problems?
Be prepared for the OP to ask the same question in January/Feb., but then about the Z4

Like having a green screen and other stuff not working right
Out of the box screen not working right and Other annoying stuff

Mine is perfect. You can't believe everything you read. Also, when stuff is mass produced you're going to get some DOA ones. You can pick any product at random and Google for that plus "broken screen" or "overheats" or "funny noise" and you're going to get loads of hits, and very few people saying "I got a phone and it worked".

If you can wait till January just wait two more months the Z4 is expected to release around Feb/Mar. It is a big upgrade compared to Z2 to Z3.

You should provide some more details so people at sony's other annoying stuff removal labs could start work on other annoying stuff removing.

I was wondering if I should respond now or in a few weeks, anyone knows if there will be any annoying topics and stuff then?

Lol OK I suck so who care lol

[Q] I can't take it anymore...Should I?

Alright...I have been waiting and waiting for a good android tablet...and right now...the Xoom is the best thing out... I know we have a few more options coming down the road...but it is just bugging the hell out of me that I don't have one yet. I just want to know from those that have a Xoom...was it worth it? Do you plan on selling it, returning it, or trading it in for another HC Tablet like the new Galaxy Tabs(sexy),G Slate...HTC whatever....or any others coming down the pipeline? Are the bugs too much to deal with....is the SD card slot not working...that irritating ...does no USB hosting make you want to throw it out the window...Do you get way too many FC's....are you really sick and tired of being shown Mobile Versions of web sites???? I guess my real question is....Are you happy?
Oh...I plan on surfing the web, watching some movies on an upcoming flight, playing some games, checking emails...ummm...facebook...twitter....normal stuff....if that helps at all
It's been one week now and l'm happy with it so far.

The jury's still out. If I get to day 85 of my 90 day Costco return policy and nothing has changed, it's going back. If Motorola/Google can iron out all the bugs, and I see a steady stream of high quality tablet apps, then I'm keeping it.

It's totally impossible to watch a YouTube video while browsing. If you click on YouTube it takes me like 5+ random clicks on anything to hopefully open the YouTube app... and then I pray that it doesn't force close... and if it does open I have to pray it doesn't freeze midway.
I'm with MikeyMike01, but also include the cold ghosting. I posted a question if anyone else noticed it, but only received a single reply saying they didn't notice it. I find it hard to imagine only my unit has the issue though.
I've also had issues with it taking sometimes 20-30 seconds for the screen to turn on after hitting the unlock button on the back.
I initially really liked it, but am now considering getting an ipad2.
I'm contemplating whether the 15% restocking fee is worth it (I got mine at Amazon)

Get it from costco (wifi version) they have a 90 days return policy, anything better comes out during the 3 months am taking it back.

This man speaks the truth.
I am glad that costco gave me a 3 year warranty... however I'm sure I'll upgrade within the first year lol.
Anyways, I love this tablet, I'm very happy I got it, and like he said costco gives you 3 MONTHS to decide if you like it or not! That's ridiculous! They accept returns no questions asked . I've returned the xoom twice and I didn't get asked a single thing. (unlucky with dead pixels)
edit: and costco gives you a free gel case!
At first I was going to buy the galaxy tab 10.1 (original version), but when I did see wifi only Xoom in stock at B&H I couldn't resist and ordered it. I just couldn't wait any longer.
After 3 days with it, I can say I'm happy with it.
Yesterday I started having hangs on the stock browser, I could scroll and zoom, but I couldn't click on any links. Only restart helped. So I removed the apps I installed yesterday and it seems the problem went away. So it seems the browser problems are somehow related to some apps that cause problems.
I haven't had any other problems.
bought it at Costco as well. Actually I'm replying this message on it.
I don't have any major issue with it and I love it! Don't care much about the motor gel case though.
damn thanks guys. Real honest answers....I couldn't wait...well I could but I got really aggravated at the end of the day from general life BS...so I ran out and picked one up to make up for it....Plus youngotta see for yourself. Any ways right? I had a boat load of Best buy reward zone certificates so I picked one up there...I figure I will play with it for a week and return it if I dont like it... but I feel like if I have any issues it will be more with honeycomb than the Xoom...and hopefully Google and Motorola will address them in the future. So far I'm liking it....I'm on it now.....here's hoping for a good experience or decent experience
my biggest complain so far is the screen. It just so washed out compare to my ipad. Heck, my Gtablet screen actually looks better (at the right angle of course). I love honeycomb though. It's a bit confusing at first, but now I don't think I can enjoy using a tablet with a different OS.
I got mine at costco also, so I'm not too worried about new tablets coming out. right now I'm very interested with the transformer. especially with its IPS screen. I just hope that it's built well like the xoom.

Ok guys so I might not seem "reputable" Ive always been more of an observer of the forums..instead of putting my 2cents in about everything..yes I work for a T-Mobile authorized dealer for the past 3yrs..4yrs @ Verizon b4 this.. every so often LG/Samsung/Nokia reps stop in.. today it was LG who I haven't seen since the g2x launch.. obviously I asked questions.. he told me that the g2x was written w/code for 2.3 to be updated soon after release.. the problem was the code was written wrong..and thats why the phone reboots..because it thinks theres an update so it shuts down..and it took an extremely long time to find where the problem was and write proper code.. they didn't want to take the chance of releasing an update without being 100% sure, obviously consumers wouldn't be happy with a faulty update..he continued to say it is absolutely a software issue..he also said the update will be in two parts.. the 1st is a software patch to fix the reboot issue and the 2nd is gingerbread. He took down my email address so he can send me the update when he gets it next week..so that way reps can test it out and start pushing it in stores.. in my opinion I don't see the update coming in the next few weeks to customers if an LG reps g2x isn't even updated yet..and is barely starting to roll out for reps to test out.. sorry for the long post..and once again..DONT SHOOT THE MESSENGER! Just putting this out there...I talked to the lawyer from the class action lawsuit. Its very legit. With that hitting Tmobile/LG if there ever was a real update(and I don't think there was) I bet it is now going to be even slower getting to us.

I am rep for technical care and I am currently testing the 2.3 rom on my personal G2X. From what I can tell so far, it is pretty much in the same state + some stability improvements that came with the leaked rom a couple months ago.
Hopefully this update won't mess up with my non-reboot G2x.
Seems like baseband patch first and OS the next.

actually this makes sense.
1) people who have said their phones said there was an update after phone rebooted .. this has been mentioned several times so that part makes sense.
2) you are the second person from a different source today to mention an update for next week.
obviously its probably just getting to tmobile next week but at least thats something.
Let us know how it goes. if you dont see an internal update by next week than well know thats its probably not trust worthy. but what he said makes sense regarding the update stuff.
and hopefully the gb update fixes gps and wifi
thanks man at least its something.

I can say my battery life appears to be better, no random reboots yet.
I've also previously experienced what I call hibernate which is where I have to press the power key 12 times to unlock the screen. Seems to run a bit smoother as well.
Problems so far are the camera sucks now. When the screen goes to standby after I load a webpage and I unlock the screen, it reverts to the previous page.
I have had a few occasions where I have had to click a link like 10 times to get data to load the page. That all I've notices so far within the 24 hours I've been running the update.

Returned my G3 this morning

I tried to like this phone , but could not... I was sick of the random reboots and overall sluggish feeling of this phone. I had Note 3 before this and what a mistake....Will get Note 4 in a few weeks.... It's been fun!!

Well good luck with the note.
I never had any issues out of my g3. Battery is great, no overheating, no random reboots, no major lagging as a matter of fact no lag at all mostly a stutter here and there in the app drawer from time to time. Been using the stock lg launcher since I got the phone and everything for me has been fluid.....
Lol then I see you made a post saying the phone was fast and no problems out of it........
I've had my phone for over a month now and I've never had any random reboots or overheating. I use my phone a lot so battery is meh for Me. But I'm happy and I love it.
No matter what, I can never stay away from android for long.
Lol I know it was new and I thought it was okay at the time...as time went on.. I started to have buyers remorse...with Att&t making us use Pma charging ..That was it for me...I just like Samsung better...

Just bought mine a lil over a week ago , hated to but got the carrier branded AT&T version. This is actually 2nd one. The first phone kept randomly shutting off during activation at the store. I like this phone. It has times where different points on the screen become unresponsive. Aggregating...it also seems to use much more of the ram than I would expect right out of the box. I use a tempered glass screen protector that may or not be causing my screen issues? As a LONG time HTC user, coming from the One, M7. I'm still getting used to something different. I do like it though. Thinking about rooting when I have time off because once boot loader is unlocked I think this device will be a beast!
Sent from my LG-D850 using XDA Premium HD app
Had my phone over a month now and absolutely loving it. Running stock rooted, no greenify. I froze all the AT&T apps and none of the LG ones. I use the stock launcher and get well over 4+ hours of screen on time, no overheating, no reboots, etc. My fiancee has the phone as well and she's been averaging almost 6+ hrs of screen on time, however where she works has better signal. I travel all over the place for work and signal is spotty.
No rebooting issues here. I will admit that my m8 outperforms the g3 (except for the camera). However, the note 3 that I received last year was a total disappointment. That was random rebooting nightmare. I guess it really depends on the specific device you get. Some may receive a subpar device.

That's what I just said about my Galaxy S5. Now I can make calls from my new car, have no reboot issues and have a better signal in my home. No more unlimited data but I wasn't using exorbitant amounts of it before anyway.
Note 3 or 4 wouldn't solve my issues. Samsung's bluetooth stack is broken and they know all about it.
Get in where you fit in. Good luck.

Slow walking the bootloader unlock is gonna kill development. Seen it before. If it becomes a popular device devs will come and an unlock with it but I understand people wanting a device with options. I don't use 3rd party ROMs anymore so I don't care much.

Agreed. My M8 is faster too, but after a root / debloat / exposed / different launcher / no carrier IQ... not by much.
I have not experienced much lag, mainly keyboard (any) delays keeping up with typing.
I believe that we haven't seen the true potential of the g3 until this bootloader is cracked and meaningful customization is a reality.

I dunno about all that. According to development updates in the bounty thread devs working on it are confident that they can unlock it, and that it's right around the corner.
I'm all for meaningful customization.. I imagine my g3 with the latest miui on it, that would be sweet... That said, this is the first phone I've been happy with as is. Debloated, greenify, g3 tweak box and the stock rom isn't all that bad.

I have no idea what you're talking about! The note 3 is the best phone out right now. No reboots here at all. Ever. I had one issue on jellybean, the sleep/power button had some lag. But since I moved over to kitkat, that issue is resolved. The screen is sick! 5.7 inch, Super amoled, which is the best imo, 3gb of ram, 32gb internal storage, micro sd slot, usb 3.0. Need I say more? Lol. Now, I also love htc, is my first love. I used to hate samsung. That is until I gave the note 3 a shot. It changed my mind about samsung. And I tried the G3, but it wasn't for me. Ill stick with htc and Samsung.

Cool. I hope I'm very very wrong. I know some devs have unlocks waiting but I guess I'm used to devs staying away if development on a new device isn't hot - which usually is in line with how popular a device is. I'm lost on why this is working out like this with the G3.
I'm really happy with stock too for once. I usually root, unlock, throw Nova on it and maybe go with a stock debloat deodexed or some variation of stock. I can't believe I'm good with the stock launcher ,de-carrieriq'ed + tweakbox. I'm not seeing any lag issues at all either. This thing is dusting my S5. I'm just happy that everything is working, radio being disabled and IR being hosed for 3rd party apps sucks a bit but that's minor.

Ghost touches? Fixed as of yesterday. Was a problem with the drivers which is up to Synpatics to resolve, not Cyanogen/OnePlus.

if readed that if you put it on a pillow the phone wont work (touchscreen) something with the bad grounding. don't know if its the right word
atleast last month like july some where. i asked a XDA developer "carburano" ex developer from my LG O2X
he got the phone in july and didnt recomand me it and that he won't use it and give it to his dad. but now 2 months later i wanna know if there are things fixed
cause 300€can't find a other goood phone. lg g2 is 300€ from ebay new. but without douane TAX.. so i need to add 20% to the price. and that doesnt make me happy.
this what he said. to me in august
"It is a great device but with an awful touchscreen... It has a bad grounding issue (hardware) that cannot allow more than 2 touches when you will use your phone in car stand or on a table... Also it has a bad software bug regarding touch driver"

he got the phone in july and didnt recomand me it and that he won't use it and give it to his dad. but now 2 months later i wanna know if there are things fixed
cause 300€can't find a other goood phone. lg g2 is 300€ from ebay new. but without douane TAX.. so i need to add 20% to the price. and that doesnt make me happy.
this what he said. to me in august
"It is a great device but with an awful touchscreen... It has a bad grounding issue (hardware) that cannot allow more than 2 touches when you will use your phone in car stand or on a table... Also it has a bad software bug regarding touch driver"

It's hard to comprehend what you are saying, I've had my phone for a few days now and it is great. Coming from a Nexus 5 it seems like it is a good update and for the price I think it would be worth getting this over a LG G2.

I have heard absolutely nothing about grounding problems. As far as the touch problems, they weren't that bad and have been resolved as of yesterday.
I can tell you for sure that you won't be disappointed with the device. If you have a invite, buy the phone. I'm typing on my phone right now and am typing as fast as I can and have problems. Although you will need to flash a custom kernel to get the newest fix until the Ota is released but it should be very soon.

THX. See people he has no more problems! :highfive:
okay yeah sorry i write fast on pc always. and never read back what i write.
will see than. invite shouldnt be that hard. got invite like 20 times kept saying no for all that problems.
but thanks. if realy the touchscreen is fixed, its worth the shot. (now that i learned that the lg g2 isnt 299€ like i tought... stupid import tax 20%more on the buy price, not cool) i acualy dont want to spent more than, 300€ on a phone. so yeah.
The grounding issue you speak of is the exact issue i had. If the device was lying flat on a pillow for instance not plugged in the screen wouldn't register more than two fingers simultaneously. This has by a large degree been fixed with the latest available update 33R. Now there is already a new firmware on its way, think around next week, that is going to completely fix the issue and @zephiK just mentioned in another thread that there was another update added just over an hour ago so this issue seems to be well on its way to be done and dusted.

Its based on the newest kernel, build number has nothing to do with it.
The commits for the touchware firmware update is not in the latest OTA just yet.

Its in the kernel, you need to flash Franco r17. Otherwise, you'll have to wait for the official OTA to be released with the new kernel which contains the new firmware. All firmware/drivers are in the kernel.
hum, still not sure.
i don't want a phone that anoyes me....
Don't buy it then. But you need to realise that only a small percentage of these phones actually have any problems. The vast majority of these phones are perfectly fine. Don't just listen to the loud people complaining, they're always the most vocal.

New update coming soon maybe?

Spoke with a T-Mobile tech support for the problems I was having with my phone I asked about when we could expect a software update like AT&T and Verizon got he told me between the first and 2nd week of March but take it with a grain of salt but we'll see
Please realize T-Mobile employees usually have no clue what they are talking about. I'll take that comment with the entire great salt lake...
Always depends on who you talk to. Occasionally you get that rare gem who is actually passionate about what they're talking about. Or you get someone who just tells you what you want to hear.
That said the timeline seems to be right for a March release.

Updated both my wife's and my G4 hen it came out. The down side was the whole bootloader unlock wiping the phone. I made the mistake of not backing up my contacts prior to updating a d had to restore my lollipop backup so I could back them up to my sd card and then go bacl yo Marshmallow. The other thing that I don't like is the way Marshmallow handles sd cards, fyi, there is no adoptable storage on LG/T-Mobile's version of Marshmallow and the sd card fix does not work on Marshmallow and all Titanium backups will need to be put on internal or it won't backup cause it will tell you that the backup on external sd is not writeable. Over all I liked it just switched phones cause I thought my G4 had major issues last weekend and neither me nor T-Mobile could get my phone to make or receive calls to or from my wife, daughter,. dispatcher, or my boss after 3 and a half hours of trying at a store and I had to have a working phone so I upgraded to the V10 and love it.

I don't think I've ever owned a phone that didn't get at least a tiny update after 4 months!

Yeah I here you... Hell when I bought my nexus 6, it upgraded 10x before I got it out of t-mobile... Lol. Granted, it didn't go through the t-mobile upgrade process. But I think everyone else has been updated... And we still have ****ty connection and can't use finger print w/ a case on...

Seriously, are people that impatient. You know mm will be available real soon and the g4 already got it. You don't think They are saving the fixes for one big update? Why fix something in lollipop if you can fix it 2 weeks later and bring marshmallow too? Not to mention I don't seem to have all these issues some complain about.

Lucky you I guess. I use my phone for real world purposes. One issue I have is the heat this device creates when filming video. My 6 that old had a school performance and while filming it got so hot that my device started stuttering and it ruined the video. To each his own I guess. Looks like my S7 will be here tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes

Sounds like a defective unit. I would dump it too then. My v10 stays cooler than any device I've ever owned. It barely gets warm shooting video. Sorry to hear that.

You cannot call people impatient when you're not experiencing the problems they're facing. If you are and you're still patient, then you can have something to say.

Unless you have magic psychic abilities, no one else knew about his video problems till after the impatient post... Odd thing about these forums... They post in chronological order...

I was speaking more to those who are just complaining about updates. The phone will be 4 months old in 2 days, and marshmallow is pretty much guaranteed within the month.

Keywords for you: All. IssueS. Some.
Problems everybody hoping a fix with marshmallow updates.

If you are going to quote people, why don't you try to put in context... Do you work for Fox news? What he said was, and I quote "I don't have all these issues some are complaining about" end quote... Keyword for you "I" meaning himself... Other keywords "who cares" and "learn context"...

Your context changed nothing. Himself. So, and?
Who cares? You obviously do. So much that you came back with such a desperate, pathetic reply.
Lmao, you just have yourself a super night... Keep on trying, maybe you'll come up with a valid point someday...
