====================================================================================================
Ultimate goal -to switch between JB and KK rom of one's choice
with a universal recovery -
with everything working normally in each OS, but without having to flash each OS via SP Flash Tools.====================================================================================================
Our beloved XOLO Q3000 basically comes in two varieties
1. with jelly bean 4.2.1 out of the box -
@avi3230 @rufus.reynolds @m0han @Aftab Memon @luke.rockstar
2. with kitkat 4.4.2 out of the box -
@chinasa @allan.vaz
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The above goal is achieved with philz recovery on devices that came with jelly bean out of the box.
- tested by me & Aftab Memon
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Those with kitkat out of the box facing issues with JB roms - camera not working.
My request to all the users specially those with kitkat out of the box
1. Please reply here so I will come to know which Os came with ur phone. I will add ur name to list.
2. Try following method so that we can find out solution to achieve ultimate goal.
===================================================================================================
Things required-
USB cable
PC/Laptop running windows Os
usb , vcom drivers for windows
SP flash tools v5.1420.00 or SP Flash Tool v 3.1420
Some knowledge about installing drivers and using SP flash tools
Kitkat S007_27052014 official firmware flash files.
[CWM Advanced Edition] PhilZ Touch recovery - 6.56.2 or 6.576.9 version
my backup app - to backup ur current data and apps+data.
Any jellybean based rom from here.
Any kitkat based rom from here.
Some patience and little thought process.
====================================================================================================
NOTE
This procedure has some risk of soft bricking ur device which can be easily cured.
Some knowledge of using SP flash tools is must.
Ur device's internal memory will be wiped while flashing - so please make sure u have backed up everything before doing anything.
A two-pronged approach is recommended - use "my backup app" and also do a full backup (the latter through recovery or mtkdroidtools).
No body is forcing u to do anything. If ur not confident then please don't try this. Stop right now and get on with life.
You alone will be responsible for any damage caused by ur impatience, ignorance, over smartness!!!!!
====================================================================================================
If u have read above notes carefully and ur agree with it please keep reading
Procedure to do-
1. Backup ur current data with my backup app
2. Also backup ur current working rom with current working recovery - in any case if any issue occur u can revert back to normal working state.
3. Install drivers (skip if already installed)
4. start sptools and load scatter file from S007 kitkat firmware folder. select everything (all boxes ticked)
5. switched off phone, pull out battery, reinsert after about 5 secs
6. connect micro usb connector of usb cable to phone. do not connect mini usb connector to computer yet.
7. in sp flash tools, press download and connect ur switched off phone with usb cable.
8. if sptools shows any error use firmware upgrade mode. this especially applies when you go from jb to kk.
9. wait patiently. firmware upgrade mode could take about 2 min 15 secs to complete. wait till the green circle confirms success.
10. reboot device and check all working fine - camera, sd card, audio
11. next step is to flash custom recovery. repeat steps 4 to 7 and 9. 8 won't be necessary. take care to select philz recovery alone (only recovery box ticked).
note: extract downloaded philz recovery in a folder. Select scatter file provided with it. In sptools only select recovery.
12. flash philz recovery with sptools
13. reboot in recovery and backup ur current rom
14. wipe data, format system in recovery.
15. flash any JB rom u downloaded.
16. boot in rom - check all working fine - camera, sd card, audio
17. reboot in recovery - backup this jb rom
18. wipe data, format system - install any kk rom
19. boot in rom - check all working fine - camera, sd card, audio
20. goto recovery and try restoring the roms one by one and check if all things working.
21. report any issue u got with mentioning step no. :good:
====================================================================================================
I want atleast 2-3 people with kk out of box to try this.
I cant test all this as i dont have such device.
If no one ready to try please dont complain about camera issue after flashing JB rom.

Special thanks to

My device came with jb4.2.1 out of the box...if I came with kk I will definitely do that but unfortunately I have done kk via spflash tool and I'm happy using custom ROM via [email protected]

inadvertent error in step 8 - computer keyboard function key is f8, pl. note. this applies to spft v3.1328.0.
in newer versions download is ctrl+d and firmware upgrade (?) or format is f9. suggest you just click on the correct icon.
'kk out of the box' owners, please lend support to the dev in this venture. he's doing it for the good of the community.
Avi,
Tell me something.. I currently run carliv touch recovery. With this, I'm able to with between jb and kk roms without having to sp flash every time I need to switch. Doesn't this cover your scenario?
I believe the last sp flash I did was kk ROM 27052014. Post that I'm just using CTR to switch between jb and kk Roms.
Please clarify if I'm missing something.
on a side note, if you can consider sp flash of kk ROM as a kk phone, I'm ready to test the process you've mentioned

thanks. please clarify the following:
1) what os your device came with 'out of the box' - build no.
2) which os you flashed your currently installed recovery from
3) which version of ctr
4) download link of the same
5) how you flashed the recovery - flashify/mobileuncletools/sp flash tool
6) does everything work as expected in all jb roms and kk roms you've tried - including camera?

Yeah dude,
can u confirm this
flashed any jb rom
backup in recovery
then wipe data, factory reset
flashed any kk rom
backup in recovery
now can u restore any rom from the backup taken
insuring all things work properly.
Will try and let you know
U can try this procedure with ctr also, as u hav it now.
We just need to know a recovery which can b a universal for both kk and jb

Recently I hard-bricked my Tab whilst installing a Rom on it (Brick Bug). Now I have a replacement, and it's about time I replaced the HC with something else.
I plan to use the 'Singha ROM ICS P6800DXLP7' ROM and ' Dedraks' GT-P6800' kernel. I'm guessing installation for both is via CWM, but that is how I bricked my tab last time. How can I work around this as to not brick it again? Odin? Which do I install first? Any guidance would really be appreciated!
Thanks
Which cwm you using that cause it to brick?
Share some detail procedure...wipe on stock rom, custom rom, kernel...etc which end with brick?
For now I believe safe atm..
- From stock ICS
- Root with this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849235
- Install cwm using Mobile Odin
- Boot to cwm recovery
- Flash custom rom and custom kernel
- Reboot recovery NOT reboot system.
- Full wipe and fix permission
- Reboot system to home screen
That what I always do
Here's what works for me
first, d/l CWM to SD card.
then power down.
reboot into download mode ,PC Odin is my install of choice for the roms...
then power down again after the new rom installs and re-boots
re-boot into recovery and choose install zip from SD and choose CWM (which is a temporary install)
dont wipe anything, just choose to install zip and then choose your new kernel.
After kernel (a safe one) installs, then re-boot system.
Ive never bricked this tab or my GN7000 Note
good luck
correct me if im wrong, but as long as you do not factory reset in stock ics recovery you are okay. Right?
Some Note GT 7000 guys reported that they bricked their phablets by copping large files (being on ICS). If this doesn't affect our P6800s, then you are not wrong.
I had installed LQ2 without wiping anything. But had many Screen Offs and Shut Downs, so I considered to risk the clean install.
Did it with Mobile Odin Pro, but first
Ensured that I already have CWM 6.0.0.1
Flashed Dedraks Kernel.
In Mobile Odin chosen "open file..." and then the particular md5 file,
BUT EXCLUDED:
1. Kernel
2. Recovery
Then I selected "wipe" and "clean", crossed my fingers and everything went OK.
Not quite everything, because I lost root, although I am pretty sure that I did not unselect "everroot'.
It was not a big issue. Installed again "root.zip" via CWM recovery.
Its about a week since then and I have nothing to complain.
...
Thanks for the responses guys.
Does this sound safe?:
Flash LQ2 via PC Odin
Root from universal recovery
Flash CWM 6.0.11 via PC Odin
Flash Dedraks Kernel via CWM
Then root again if needed.
Thanks

Happy flashing
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (US Wifi+IR) P3113 [ROM Build Number: IMM76D.P3113UEBLH2] which is still 100% stock. I plan on installing a custom rom, but first I want to make a complete backup of everything.
I know I need to use a custom recovery (I plan on using ClockworkMod) and flash the custom rom. I don't have any problems with that part.
I also have all of my data already backed up. I plan on doing a full factory reset before installing anything anyway.
My main issue is that I want to backup the original stock ROM and all other partitions/images before making any permanent changes.
Since the device doesn't support fastboot I can't just "fastboot boot cwm-recovery.img" to do a temporary boot to backup the stock rom and recovery. All the instructions I've seen indicate I must first flash a new recovery image then boot the device from that. This would cause me to not have a backup of the stock recovery image.
I didn't see any backup options in Heimdall or ODIN either. No luck with Check Fus either.
Is there a way to backup the stock recovery image without flashing anything to the device first?
I have looked at sammobile at the P3113 firmwares, but I can't be sure those apply to my version (US WiFi + *IR blaster*) or would have the stock recovery image. Samsung Kies doesn't seem to have any updates or downloadable firmware for my tablet (it still has the ROM it came with out of the box) that I could extract the stock recovery for my P3113 (US WiFi+IR) from either.
I'd like a backup of everything so I could revert to 100% stock if needed. I also want to be sure I have the original recovery image and not some other version from a "stock rom" downloaded from the Internet.

Excellent way of articulating the issues and questions rbeede.
This is exactly what I have been trying to do too. I have searched the forums and google and haven't been able to figure out how to do this either. I was actually fixing to post the same questions myself and thought I should do one last search before I did, which lead me to this thread
I have the same tab and build (P3113 - ROM Build Number: IMM76D.P3113UEBLH2). As an android newbie I have been reading/researching for hours a day since Christmas and there is still a lot I don't understand. This is the first step I would like to take though and I intend on doing a full factory reset before installing anything too.
Can anyone help us with this please?
A. Want to backup the original stock ROM and all other partitions/images before making any permanent changes. Would like a backup of everything so I can revert to 100% stock.
B. For the same reasons as the OP, I also want to be sure I have the original recovery image and not some other version from a "stock rom" downloaded from the Internet.
I am happy to show proper appreciation for anyone who can help and once I get things sorted out and figured out I am willing to help others too. Thank you in advance
Backup
Howdy
You should find and download the stock rom for your device on the net. I myself do not recommend you to install custom rom as it can brick ur device.
For the backup:-
1. For the backup of your apps download this app (App Backup and Restore) from the play store. It can backup ur apps and then can also restore them back but also dont forget to take the backup of this app itself.
2. Connect your tablet/phone to your pc/laptop and then copy all the files in your SD card and Device and store them to seperate folders on your pc/laptop.
3. Now the backup of all your files is created.
According to my information you cannot backup your current rom you will have to download the stock rom from the net which you need and then fla**** in case of a mishappening or incase you wish to revert back.
Best of luck Happy flashing and a happy new year.

@kunalthakur - There isn't an official Samsung download source that one can use. Most of the other downloads I've seen have had the recovery.img modified to enable the backup in the first place. We want a trustworthy (verified no malicious software added) stock OEM rom/recovery with no modifications.
I have had some initial success getting the Samsung Kies software to attempt to download the current official ROM from official Samsung servers. I guess Samsung wants people to only download via Kies instead of offering it on their website to reduce the load on their servers and prevent end-users from flashing the wrong ROM because they didn't know what they were doing.
I will update if I have success getting a clean download.
If u are successful in flashing the original rom then notify me too as i dnt know of any such method. Oh by the way here is a site where you can download original roms.
downloadandroidrom.com
And by original I dont mean official.
Sent from my GT-P3100
That site didn't have a ROM for the US (Wifi+IR) GT-P3113
I did however notice that an official ROM update has just become available in Samsung Kies.
Version ending in LK7 (update from LH2).
I'm going to try to save a copy of the download for backup purposes.

Hello,
I'm using Galaxy Note 10.1 (N8013, UEALI3).
As our hardware and software are almost identical, I'll assume things will be the same for you and me.
How to create a full backup of your device, without touching anything?
There must be a way, but I also couldn't find it.
So, I found a way that just works as we expect.
To create a full stock device backup, with all images and partitions, without rooting, you'll have to....
Flash CWM! No, please, wait, let me finish...
When you flash a custom Recovery, it is actually not something permanent.
Once you boot your stock rom with stock kernel, your custom recovery is overwritten with the default one.
So, you can flash your CWM, and reboot your device immediately to it.
If you let your stock ROM boots, you are going back to stock recovery.
EXCEPTION:
- When you boot to CWM, choose "Reboot", you'll be given the following option: "ROM may flash stock recovery on boot. Fix? This can not be undone.". If you choose "Yes", you'll never get to stock again, even while booting stock rom.
So, flashing a custom recovery is actually very similar to "fastboot boot recovery recovery.img", as no permanent damages are made.
Finally, that's what you'll have to do:
1) Use Oding to Flash CWM. DO NOT Restart your device from ODIN.
2) Force turn off your device (press power button for > 8 seconds)
3) Boot to recovery (power button + volume up)
4) Make a full backup! In this backup, you'll have the CWM recovery.
5) Reboot your device.
6) Boot normally, and copy your backup from SDCard to your computer.
How to restore the stock I just saved?
1) Flash CWM again if needed.
1.1) If you want to get rid of the binary count, you'll have to make CWM permanent.. for a while.
1.2) Boot into CWM, go to Reboot Device, and choose "Yes - Make it permanent".
1.3) Boot your rooted ROM, download and execute TriangleAway.
1.4) Ok, your download count is zero.2) Now, go back to CWM and restore your backup.
3) This time, you have your stock rom + stock kernel, but still have the CWM recovery.
4) Boot your stock rom
5) Now, you have your stock rom + stock kernel + stock recovery.
I know this is not what you REALLY wanted (extract stock images, including stock recovery image), I wanted that to..
But this just works.
Let me know if I was able to help you.
Good luck!
So this is basically not possible then?
Hi Guys,
3 Days before i rooted my phone and installed the latest jellybean update from droidiser website(Title: How to Update Micromax A110 to offical jellybean) Sorry i couldn't able to post the website link. From this page i installed the clockworkmod flashablezip update.
After installing this rom i couldn't able to boot in recovery mode. As the instruction said in that page i have to clear the dalvik cache so i rebooted my phone and pressed the volume up, down and power button (the recovery options appears like press volume up to recovery mode, press volume down to factory mode). when i press the volume up button to go to the recovery mode a green android logo image or something appears and blueline processing under it and then my mobile rebooted and starts as fresh each and every time it happen like this i have tried this more than 10 times. After loosing hope in this method i installed Rom manager and when i opened it says please install custom recovery and gave the option to install and cancel. i pressed the install button in the next it show already clockwork mod is installed please choose one and i choosed clockworkmode 3.x+ something. after that i try to backup my current version by pressing the backup option in rom manager again the above process started and again it resets my jb. I can able to go to factory mode by pressing the volume down button. the only thing i couldn't able to do is go into recovery mode and take a backup or install a new rom. Please anyone help me.

Try flashing Stock ROM V2 back to your phone and then perform a factory/data reset.
Then root it and install CWMR through MobileUncle tool.
Now check if you are able to get in to CWMR or not. If yes, then you are done. You may now install any JB based custom ROM of your choice including an official V3 released by Micromax.
Please share your result here for others to refer (whatever it may be)

Yes, you can flash it with SP Flash Tool and Stock V2 ROM file from any computer/laptop running on Windows 7/XP. Doesn't detect device on Windows 8. Refer to the attached file.

Hi
Thanks for your help i will try this i have one doubt, instead of installing the same stock rom v2 can i install the suvi rom helios or jupiter and i want another help which one is best rom suvi ver 5 or suvi ver 6.
well i have tried flashing stock v2 from sp flash tool with stock recovery but it doesnt work. i am coming from jmpv8
It is advisable to First flash stock Rom V2 and then root your phone and then install cwm recovery.
After that you can install any Rom. Try LEWA ROM, it is not only faster but also stable and extends battery a lot.

No, you won't be able to flash your backup files from SP flash tool.
For Gaming, try using any ROM which is doesn't eat RAM just for good look and feel. There are many such available on this forum.
Ensure the whichever ROM you install, is V6 supercharged.
Try JMP V9.0, it will serve your purpose.
Thanks for that, i will try it.
Mmx 110 (recovery problem)
When I tried to reboot my canvas 2, the screen freezes in "SUPERFONE CANVAS 2" wordings. I tried again and again to reboot it, but the same thing happens over and over. Please help me.
Is this the first reboot after having installed ROM? If yes then leaves your phone as it is and it will come up after few minutes.
If this is not the case, you can solve this provided that you have CWM Recovery.

Yes you can install any ROM. But for that, you need to first root your phone and install latest CWM recovery. Then you can download and install any Rom.
SUVI has released the latest ROM, try it.

Damn, I just began experienced the exact same problem as the OP, however, I experienced it after quite a few reboots (I installed the JB about a week ago) unlike the OP
I was gonna start a new thread but noticed this one and hence posting my query here...
1) So guys, I just need to flash the Stock ROM V2 using SP tools, root my phone, Install the official MMX JB update and that'll do right?
Does my phone still remain rooted afterwards?
2) Secondly, is it possible to retrieve those apps and data that got wiped off my phone after it reseted?
I did save a nandroid backup once via CWM but that was long ago and quite a few new apps were installed after that
Thanks
BTW, somebody should report the bad release... What did droidser put in that damned thing?
Hi,
Thanks for your replay, it's worked i installed a new ROM but i have been facing some issues in Suvi 6 Rom. I will post it in SUVI Q&A Thread. You tole me to install JMP v9 Rom but i was afraid to install that because in their home thread they have given separate patches for apps and some instruction on how to install that ROM etc... Those thinks confused so i installed suvi rom v6.Thanks again for your help.
Procedure if you ARE NOT running baseband JYUS06032013 (ICS Basebands) :
boot ICS CWM
flash FLEX-JB-JYUS06032013-FIRMWARE.zip from CWM
format system in CWM (will NOT wipe data, but makes sure old rom does not flash back stock recovery)
restart start recovery/adb reboot recovery (JB CWM is installed - do not try to fastboot boot ICS CWM)
flash FLEX-JB-JYUS06032013-ROM.zip from CWM.
reboot
Procedure if you ARE running baseband JYUS06032013 (JB Baseband) :
get root (Instructions HERE - use GANDALF)
install CWM (Instructions HERE)
flash FLEX-JB-JYUS06032013-FIRMWARE.zip from CWM
format system in CWM (will NOT wipe data, but makes sure old rom does not flash back stock recovery)
reboot to CWM

reboot
This ROM is Pantech stock stock stock with no mods other than CWM installation protection and all stock permissions and symlinks carefully maintained and consistent with the product of a successful OTA. It runs well with nothing broken. You MUST be on JB firmware (below) to run it properly.
The firmware is also stock, with the exception of the open aboot allowing fastboot boot <bootimage>, and installation of JB CWM with nothing else added or changed.
You can let the new CWM root it if you like when you exit - it will prompt you.

2 - reconnect -> authentication problem.
3 - reboot a fews time to make wifi back to work.
4 - back to problem number 1
5 - Camera App still randomly cant be used unless restart. ( same problem since ICS )
6 - some intensive graphic games cause reboot the phone, eg Clash of Clans ( new in this JB)
What is good about JB is feel smooth and faster.

Try flashing my firmware package again, then flashing the ROM again. If you still have these issues, then wipe data/factory reset from clockworkmod. This is working for everyone else reporting, including me.

highly unlikely to impossible in this version of reality.
Look at mac address of both phone. They are the same. And both phone connected to the same ip of a router.
Even i use 2 routers, and connect one each, they seems to drop connection very often.
Unless a phone turn wifi off to let other one stay in good connection.
Do you have another alternative firmware file? So it could have different mac address ?

Looks like you restored the same /data backup to each phone. MAC address is determined by your wifi hardware, not this firmware.

I did not restore anything. While both phones on ics they both worked fine without duplicated mac address issue. Then i followed the instruction of the 2 files for upgrade to jelly bean. I didnt do any back up or restore. Just flash the firmware zip then jb rom zip the. Everything of my data are still there wifi are working fine untill i flash another phone to jelly bean too, both phone must have one wifi to turn off to make another one's wifi works fine.
Do you have the flex and upgraded to jelly bean by this two files? Could you tell me your mac address of your wifi ?

Apologies. I've verified the problem, have traced it to mmcblk0p10, and here's a fix for you that changes the MAC by one:
Flash this from CWM:
md5: 4e7940c1b5d3690e0e38b083f224a7f1 OSCAR-WIFI-MACFIX.zip
NOTES:
This problem is because the hardware MAC is stored in that partition and read by the wifi firmware. It should never present a problem for people unless they have more than one Flex running this update on the same local area network subnet.
The MAC address starts in mmcblk0p10 at hex offset 30204, and an image file of this partition can be edited CAREFULLY with a hex editor and copied back to that partition. Doing this wrong may result in a bricked device.

You have not provided enough information for me to help you. What was the detailed sequence of events leading to this. Be precise and make sure you list exactly the packages you flashed.

In recovery (cwm), check the md5 of the file on the sdcard against the posted md5 like so:
adb shell md5sum /path/filename
If it's not matching, you will get that error.
If you don't have the shipping ICS aboot, you may be stuck. You can't flash or boot images if you've taken the jb update. You still haven't detailed what you started with and what you have tried to do and where it went wrong, so it's hard to tell you exactly what to do or even if there is anything to do.
Any idea about stock rom? I don't have cwm. Only need to restore using original farmware. P8010 already stuck.

There is no stock firmware from Pantech available. If you messed up and can't boot with the JB bootloader, you are screwed.

No stock firmware from Pantech? I thought the firmware in the first post is STOCK? No? What about a caught copy from the OTA from AT&T?
I wanted to Install KyleOpen ROM from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2087177
(I cant post a reply there since I am new)
I am trying to download the XXBMD6 ROM but after completion it says Failed-Network error and simply doesnt show the file. This has happened multiple times. Is there an alternate link for that file?
Also I am relatively new to this rooting and flashing process and I have a new S Duos. Its been a little difficult for me to understand the steps but I will type them down and please let me know if I understood it correctly:
1. Download the XXBMD6 Stock ROM (which I am not able to)
2. Run ODIN and select the Stock ROM
3. Turn ON mobile in Download Mode and flash the Stock ROM
4. Then flash the CWM in similar way from ODIN from the attached zip file on first page.
5. Put KyleOpen ROM 3.4.0 on MicroSD Card
6. Reboot phone in Recovery Mode
7. select Install zip from SDCard option
8. Reboot and everything should be working
Please let me know if thats how its supposed to be? Also can I know what is the Kyleopen Tool does?
Also what is the Root.Superuser mod? Do I need to flash that too?
Do I have to use a separate program to root my phone? Or how do I know if my phone is rooted?
Thanx for Help!
P.S: I have a couple of phones I want to install custom ROM to make them fast. So this is a starting phone which I want to test with.
