OnePlus One get back from death - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
i have a problem with my opo. After a lot of reboot loops the phone do not start anymore. I have opened support tickets on the op site but no answer yet. I tried every thing that i found like 5times holding power button for 20sec, waiting 12 hours and charging then, and so on. Nothing works the screen is black and the opo seems to be dead. But today i pulled the usb cable to my pc and when i am holding the opo power button i hear the windows sun when a usb device is plugged in, but i can't install opo drivers or anything. maybe someone know what to do to have access on the phone from pc maybe to reflash the phone or something else.
Hope to hear from you guys.
regards
peter

Have you tried loading the bootloader by hoding the vol- and power button?
Have you tried booting in fastboot mode by holding the vol+ and power button?

Can you boot into fastboot of you can then check the thread in the Q&A section about fixing loops etc and flash the persist.img that should fix it providing you can boot into fastboot.

The phone is totaly black. I can't boot into nothing. I read that maybe when i put out the battery and charge it with a charger maybe than the phone start?! But how many Ampere do i need to charge the battery ? Here the link:
forums.oneplus.net/threads/solution-low-battery-or-full-black-screen-opo-not-booting-due-over-discharge.88107/
When i pull it into the computer only the sound from windows is playing that the phone is plugged in. But i can't install the drivers because of the debugg mode that i have to start.

Does the phone show up though when plugged in?

NEVER charge a Li-Ion battery directly without it's charging circuit unless you know EXACTLY what you are doing and even then you should not. This is especially true as the OPO seems to have a Li-Po battery which is even more dangerous when not charged correctly.
To answer your question anyway:
You'd need a stabilized power supply with Amp limiting (most common: lab power supplies) . You don't "need" a specific amperage to charge, only a specific voltage (and even that can vary depending on how fast you want to charge). Up to 1Amp should be safe enough, while the maximum charging voltage is indicated on the battery and amounts to 4.35v.
DO NOT and NEVER use those cheap variable power supplies since they are NOT stabilized and will vary strongly, up to 50% variation in Amperage and Voltage are normal for those.
But i can't install the drivers because of the debugg mode that i have to start.

Which debug mode? The Windows one for unsigned drivers (there are tools for that...) or the phone one?

Thanks for you answer, at first i will only pull out the battery and reinsert it. Maybe it help and the phone will start again. If not i will at first try to flash a new rom when i can install the driver. And its the debug mode on the phone because i cant turn the phone on. If nothing will help i try to charge the battery. So I need a 3,7 Volt charger with about 1 A to revive the battery ?

Yeah it is shown but only as a COM port or something like that. I have to look at it at home.

The OPO's battery cannot be removed.
Atleast not without any technical knowledge.

Thanks for you information but i have a bit of knowledge in that case. ;P
What i don't know is how to charge the battery when the voltage fall down under 3 volt.
Can i use something like this charger : ?

How many cells have the lipo battery from OPO ? 1 or more ?

If your PC recognises your phone when you connect it, doesn't that mean your phone is on?
Wouldn't a faulty screen be the cause of your problem?

No the screen worked right. Before the phone do not start, the phone have the reboot problem. After that only the low battery screen appears. I tried to load the phone like they have written in the forum and it worked at first but the rebooot still goes on. I think the battery is fully gone and because of that the phone can't boot. One time the screen also shows a linux symbole. Very strange.

Did you by any chance got your phone working ?
'coz i am also facing the issue, my phone is completely dead and no matter what it cannot start.

did you drained your battery till its fully dead ?
now you need to charge it (boost) at a certain point for it to turn on
you need minimal of 3.6v on your battery to power on the phone.
you can see the voltage in your battery with a multimeter
i had this problem, I drained my battery completely, when I plug it in, the led flashing 11 times last 3 flashes are slow then goes dark.
(my battery had only 2,80v, and i had to boosted to 3.6v)
the original charger has an output 0f 3.6v, i was lucky to have a external batery charger, and it has 4.2v output, so was a little faster to boost my battery,

I don't really understand in what situation one would need this. When I drain my battery until its fully dead, then yes, it won't turn on while it's plugged in, but if I just charge for 30 seconds to a minute and then unplug the charger, the phone will turn on fine... Then I can continue charging normally after the phone boots up.
Does that not work for you?

no because i have the CWM recovery, and dont charge the battery when the phone is off
Then you need to update your recovery. Download Rom manager and then install clockwork recovery through Rom manager.

Hello,
I was in your situation and was able to use the battery from both my nexus and my myTouch to boot in to the bootloader and flash the stock recovery. I had to hold the batteries in place as they are not the right size (just line up the contact points). After flashing the stock recovery I was able to put my sensation battery back in, let it charge for a few minuets and then it would power on. Hope this helps. I have attached the stock recovery from the TMOUS 1.29 rom that I used.

It's not about the version number.
If your recovery is blue, then you don't have the latest.
Download Rom Manager from the market and inside of the program, use the Flash Recovery function.
The new recovery will be orange. This recovery is released directly from Koush, who makes the recoveries, instead of from Alpharevx. Also, it will allow you to use the very useful features of Rom Manager, whereas with the blue recovery, you can't do anything with Rom Manager.
It will fix the charging issue, and it a lot more convenient than ripping apart a charger and jump-starting your phone battery, or than flashing the stock recovery just to be able to charge your battery.
Edit:
When you charge your battery from a dead state, the led will blink non-stop. That's good. Let it do that for 30 seconds to a minute, then UNPLUG your charger and turn your phone on. It should turn on.
Then when it boots up, charge normally.

i did that, and didnt work
I was worried about this for a while, too. What worked for me was to use a friend's phone (also a Sensation) to charge my battery, update the new ClockworkMod Recovery, then put my battery back in to my phone. Took about 10 seconds to power on, but by golly it works now.
EDIT: No, apparently it was the spare battery that worked fine. My original battery won't charge in either phone. Really don't have any spare cables to be hacking up. I guess I have no option other than to have another battery sent out.
I have the same problem, it is now completely dead.
I do have the latest ROM Manager through Market and flashed the latest CWM, yes the text is orange.

So is the charging issue fixed or not. I thought the new recovery fixed that issue. It's the only thing keeping me from s-off and rooting my phone. I run the battery totally dead a few times a week.

Man this sucks. I'm having the hardest time getting this to work.
WOAH.... I would advise against this completely. You run the risk of destroying the battery this way.
If you really need to do it this way, using 3 AA batteries would be better. (for a voltage of 4.5).
Using 9 volts is grossly overvolting the battery, which is extremely bad for Li-ion / Li-Po batteries.
Also remember, you only need to charge it enough so that the phone can turn on and boot.

Battery only charges to 96%

Exactly what the title says. The phone says it has charged completely but the battery is only at 96%. I'm currently draining the battery and I'm going to recharge it, but is this normal? I've had this phone for six months.

What rom are you on? Wipe your battery stats and cycle it a couple of times and eventually it'll hit 100 or 99 once you unplug
This happens to me as well. if you leave it long enough it will go to 100. it is a calibration error and will not actually hurt battery life, just how it is reported.

As Jce9182 asked, which rom are you running, and if you're not running any custom rom, are you at least rooted? The issue here sounds like it is most definitely a battery reporting error. This can be fixed by using an app from the market like Battery Calibration. You can also try the following with use of the market app for calibrating the battery. It's best to complete this procedure in the evening before going to bed, so you can leave it at 100% overnight and check in the morning if the issue has been resolved. The whole procedure along with recalibration might take up to 5-6 hours or more!
1. Take the case off your phone (if you're using one, as one of the latter steps involves taking the battery out from the phone while it's plugged in. Make sure your case won't stand in the way.)
2. Install Battery Calibration app from the market: Find it here!
3. Plug in your phone to charge while it's on, and wait until it gets to a 100% (or 96% as it appears in your situation)
4. When the charged, open the Battery Calibration app and look up what the charge is in mV while at fully charged. Write it down.
5. Discharge your phone completely until it shuts off. A good way of doing this quickly is by turning on WiFi, and a video player.
6. Without turning on the phone plug it into a wall charger and let it get to 100% (or 96% if this is all you will be able to see before finishing these steps)
7. When it's charged, without unplugging it from the wall charger, take off the battery cover, and take the battery out. Your phone will "reboot" and show a Missing Battery icon.
8. Without unplugging the phone from the wall charger or turning it on, put the battery back in and wait until the phone recognizes the battery.
9. Your battery should now be recognized by the phone, and showing a charge % significantly lower than 100%. Mine showed only 5%.
10. Let it sit there charging for 2-3 hours. My phone wouldn't charge past 10%, but yours might. The numbers don't matter much as the phone is definitely getting additional charge that could have been lost while flashing ROMs, etc.
11. After 2-3 hours, turn the phone on while holding the volume down button and get into CWM. Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
12. Wipe battery stats in CWM, reboot. Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
13. When the phone turns on, go into Battery Calibration app again and look up your MV numbers- if you were like me, they should be significantly higher than before. Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
14. Before going to sleep - Install Watchdog Task Manager from the market. Go into it's preferences, set CPU threshold to 20%, check "Include phone processes", check "Monitor phone processes", check "Display all phone processes", set system CPU threshhold to 20% as well. Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
15. Make sure your wifi and data connections are off. Now finally unplug the phone from the charger. Go to bed, let your phone sleep too.
16. Success! Next morning check where your battery % is at and if you followed the instructions correctly / got lucky like me, your battery life should be 90% or more. I went to bed with 98% and woke up to 94%. So, I consider this mission a success.
(Your general battery capacity should have increased, even if something still was draining the battery, you will be able to find the infringing process in WatchDog with the settings we've set up in step 14)
Hope this helps... :good:

Click "calibrate" after the phone has been on the charger (wall, not USB to PC charge!) For several hours -preferrably after charging all night- and calibrate using the app in the morning.
The Mv I get at full charge is in the neighborhood of 4351-4353Mv or so:

Doesn't charge if rebooted while plugged in

If the phone reboots while plugged in, it stops charging, even though it thinks it's charging:

If charger is removed and reattached, it starts charging again.
It also sometimes thinks it has charged but then dies randomly as though the battery has died, and then the battery level is shown to be much lower than it thought? 3 things on right side of plot:
Now the phone won't stay running at all. It does the bootloader screen, then goes black in the middle. Sometimes it makes it to a home screen and then dies as soon as I touch anything.
If it's a bad battery, shouldn't it still work while plugged into external power?
Should it boot with no battery at all while plugged into external power? All it does is show a red LED and vibrate repeatedly.
If I boot into recovery it stays on, though, on battery alone.
Tried removing SD card and SIM card, wiping cache partition, wiping dalvik cache, reflashing gapps, still doesn't work.
re-burned the CM11 ROM, did a factory reset, still nothing. it works fine in recovery, but when I try to boot it shows the splash screen (the static picture, not the rotating circle), the LED turns blue briefly, and then everything goes black. :crying:
Sounds like a bad battery. Try letting the phone charge while off for about 6 hours. Also you could try "clearing the RAM" by pulling the battery unplugging and holding the power button for 5-10 seconds, and see if that helps.
But it boots into recovery and that works fine?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Free mobile app
Also wouldn't it run fine on external power?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Free mobile app
I tried both of those with no luck.
It probably is a bad battery? After charging all day, it showed a full battery. I started it, it died immediately, then it said the battery was empty. Anyway I need a phone and don't have time to decide on a new model so I ordered another one. if it's just the battery I'll have a backup phone now.
So I swapped out the battery and it booted. It ran a while, getting really hot processing updates and everything from the past week, and then randomly shut down. The battery graph shows the same thing as before, the Charging bar is green as though it is charging, but the battery level graph is dropping. So I think the charging itself is broken and not the battery?
So after changing the battery it acted weird again for a bit and then started charging and has been working as it was since? So it was just the battery? But I still wake up to a dead phone even though it's plugged in, which it was doing with the old battery too.
Did you try a different charger.
Yes, tried several chargers
I made a Tasker profile to make noise if it's plugged in but the battery level keeps dropping
This definitely still sounds as though it's a bad battery.

I personally have not seen that issue. The only issue with booting while plugged in that I've seen with the three apexqs I own is that if you reboot the phone with the charger plugged in, it often then doesn't like to get into 'Deep Sleep' mode until it's rebooted while not plugged in.
I have two apexq and never that issue, the only issue is the same magamo said before, no issues with charging rebooting phone while plugged in

OPO suddenly not charging, battery stuck at 50%, low battery screen

My Oneplus One has recently started acting up. Last week it stopped charging normally and will only charge using the OEM charger.
Chargers and cords that I previously used without issue no longer work at all. My phone will show that it is connected to power, but will not charge and the battery will still go down.
I have tried:
Samsung wall charger
My 2.1a output car charger - battery doesn't go down, but no longer charges
My 1.5a output external battery
Apple USB charger and it seemed to work
Yesterday, I plugged my phone into my Samsung wall charger that like I said previously charged my OPO without issue and entered recovery and it wouldn't even charge in recovery.
I'm not sure what to try. Has anyone experienced anything like this? I'd rather not have to buy a new phone.

Thanks! I'll look into getting a new battery. Are there any sellers I should look at or anywhere to seer clear from?
I need to sort out the most recent update as well which will hopefully fix my phone not always ringing when I get a call through. Last time I updated it I keep getting notifications to update it to the same version I'm already running and random restarts/freezing/slowing
I'm not sure if the power/battery has anything to do with this or if I have two unrelated issues.

My new battery came on Saturday and I installed it and charged my phone up before leaving for the weekend. It seemed to work OK Saturday and Sunday aside from a couple random restarts battery performance seemed to be better.
Then last night I went to bed without plugging my phone in since it was about 50% and when I woke up at 4 it was completely dead and would not turn on. I plugged it into the original charger and it showed the battery low, charge before powering on screen. I left it plugged in and charging for the last two and a half hours or so and just got up. The phone shows 50% charge so I turned it on and it briefly gave me the low battery message before powering up. I checked the battery and it looks like the battery suddenly lost all charge? The phone was still connected to the charger and showing 50%, but not charging. It appears to have stopped at 50%. The phone then randomly shut down and will not turn back on again. I keep getting the low battery screen.
I just switched back to the original battery so I could at least power on my phone and post the screenshot I took with the old new battery not charing past 50% before it shut down and refused to boot up.
Also, now that I'm using the original battery my phone feels slightly slower again. Could be nothing.

Question Slow charging issue, won't charge above 900mah

Oneplus 9 t-mobile version LE2117. The phone will not seem to charge above 900mah and usually will only charge at around 700mah. I've tried multiple chargers and tested my 6t on the same chargers and it is charging at 3000+ on the same charger.
I think this started after transferring all the data from the 6t over to the 9 using Google one. I tried doing a cache wipe in recovery but that didn't help.
I'm rooted and unlocked. Battery charging optimization is off. Any ideas?
Degraded or failed battery; replace it.

It either started right after I updated to 11.2.9.9 or after I did the restore. I think it's software related. I might do a factory reset if I don't find another solution.

Batteries can fail overnight... just like that.
If it was at 80% of its original capacity it's degraded and should be replaced.
Any swelling (take a close look) is a failure.
If there's any doubt, replace it as batteries are cheap and it's not worth destroying a phone over.
Power off phone. If it's still exhibiting abnormal charging behavior it's likely hardware. It's possible it could be firmware if the power controller's instruction set was changed.
Otherwise the battery and possibly the power port pcb are the most likely suspects.
Make sure the battery charging start temperature is at least 72°F. A low start temperature will disable fast charging.

I did install acc but I've since removed it. Going to try a factory reset and if that doesn't solve it, you are likely correct. I just didn't want to wipe the phone and deal with getting root and all my apps back on it.
Also it has no swelling, start temp is around 90* and the health says good on ampere and the battery doesn't seem to drain fast. It just won't charge fast.

The only reliable parameter is SOT* which of course can vary if you change the set up.
Erratic fast charging or its failing to engage is another sign of a battery failure. Not to repeat but it's worth remembering...
As a battery degrades it's fast/regular charging time will decrease.
New maybe it took 30 seconds to add 1%
Degraded may be 20 seconds for 1%
Less capacity, less charging time.
Regardless if the device is heavily used expect a battery life of 1-2 years. Replacing these I now view as routine maintenance. My N10+'s will get new batteries about every year now. My first one failed shortly before the 1.5 year mark. I was fortunate it didn't damage the display.
*I track this with Accubattery. The history log is it's most useful feature, great for troubleshooting.

I did a factory reset and battery is still only showing 500-800mah charging. What's weird is the display on the lock screen states its charging rapidly though.
But unfortunately it looks as if you are correct and it was a coincidence that the battery failed some time while updating the phone.

You can't measure the charge rate with the screen on. The power controller automatically ramps the charge rate down the moment the screen comes on. If you have Accubattery already open and turn the screen on it will display the screen off charge rate for a second until it refreshes.
If it says it's fast charging, it likely is. Verify by rate charged in 10 minutes between 30-70%.
It should be approximately 18-22% for a 4300 mAh battery on a 25w brick (Samsung), but you get the idea.
Regardless it's sound stewardship to replace degraded Li's before they fail, plus it breathes new life into the device.
