Ive been a long time member of CDMA and have had several android devices, all with removable batteries. The OPO is my first phone without a removable battery.
I have a 64 gb OPO, unlocked boot loader stock cm and rooted.
I tried to perform a routine nandroid backup of my data partition in twrp. Its been backing up the data for 20 minutes. Normally, I would have simply pulled the battery, but OPO has a non removable battery. What do I do?
I tried holding a combination of the hard buttons. Volume up and power does nothing. Volume down and power takes a screenshot. Volume up and down and power does nothing. The soft buttons still vibrate and the screen locks and unlocks but nothing else happens.
Tl;dr: I'm in twrp and it froze up. How do I force power down (ie equivalent of pulling the battery)?
Just hold the power button by itself, keep holding it until the phone powers down.

Thanks for your reply. TWRP doesn't seem to respond to that in the middle of an operation.
I actually just went to sleep and it eventually ran out of battery.
I guess we can close this thread now.

Got a tab plus in completely stock condition. Been working well for well over 2 years now. Yesterday I noticed that the screen is displaying "Warning!! A custom OS scan cause critical problems..... Volume Up to continue, Volume Down: cancel (restart tablet)" The screen wouldn't get switched off. Neither the volume up or Volume down or power works. I let the battery completely drain till the tab got switched off. Then tried to charge, after a few seconds of the charging animation, the same screen comes back again.
Tried the Power+volume up, Power+Volume down, Power+Volume up+Volume down combinations. Nothing works. Never had a sim in the device. Removed the sdcard and tried. No luck.
What has gone wrong? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Bump. Any help will be nice
If you can, try to save everything you want off of it. Then try to factory reset it.

hello,
I had left my phone to charge at night, then this morning it was not responding. Power button was not waking up the phone. Then i forced to reset by power and volume buttons. Vibrated 3 times and completely shut off. Now it is not opening.
I already tried, reset button in sim cards slot. It is not working also. Please help me.
Did you try connecting it to PC Suite or FLashtool? Check that once and also try charging another hour and then force reset the phone. Also I think there is a reset button somewhere under the sim card slot. Try that one too.
Hold volume up and press power. Wait for beep three times. Give it a few seconds and then press power alone, should boot.
Thanks guys, i tried both but still i have sudden death. reset button and power+volume buttons not working. Also flashtool could'nt find my device.
Thats not good, any led when plugged in?
I had a similar instance after flashing unofficial cm12. Phone was cooling down from taking a run through an obvious cpu bug that really killed my battery. I shut it off to cool down with 20 precent still left in the battery. And the phone started to act this way when I went to power it on. No led power indicator or anything even with usb connected. My computer did respond to the usb being connected as if a device was there though. I waited about 10 minutes with the phone in front of some cool air and then did the volume up power button reset which worked then. Still quite a scary incident.
Thanks for any help in advance.
My Nexus 5 device is unable to boot stock or recovery image. It's a locked bootloader, and stock ROM from my wireless carrier. I charged it with a 2 amp capable charger.
Symptoms: preceding the failure , there were strange slowdowns, apps crashing, and inability to charge the battery over the course of a day. When the battery finally died, that was the last I saw my Operating System. Now, when it's plugged in to power, it indicates full charge. If the power button is pressed it will show the Google logo, then cycle back to the battery charged icon. If the power button is held, the battery logo is skipped and Google logo displayed repeatedly. If the down volume button is pressed in addition to power, I get the screen where I can chose the recovery loader, but then the process of Google logo and reboots persist.
If nothing else, I'd like to grab built-in SD card memory contents and strip out a bitcoin key with about $40 on it that I didn't get to back up before it failed.
What have I tried so far: basically everything above to generate those symptoms. I also tried opening the back, and pulling one of the top cover and unplugging the battery entirely. No effect.
Cheers all. :good:
what happens when you connect it to your pc?
Possible power button issue? You could open the phone, remove the plastic power button from the phone housing, reconnect everything, and then try to boot the phone.
When I connect it to the PC, it goes through the same fully charged loop until I hit the power button for 2S, then it boots. If I hold power, it boot loops; if I leave it alone it fully charged loops (regardless of battery being attached or not). If I remove power button and depress it manually, I get the same loop.
This is a refurb from Google, about 8 months old.
Hey all, I searched around, just haven't found the answer I'm looking for.
First, I did get it to bootup after holding Power+vol up/down, and I'm trying to understand what happened.
Running stock Verizon 4.4.2
Bootloader unlocked, S-off
Rooted
The phone was at about 75% charge and I was viewing gallery. I noticed that videos were no longer playing and was trying to get one up. The phone suddenly went black as if it powered off. I pushed the power button- nothing. Held the power button - nothing. Did that a couple more times for longer.
Then hooked it to charge - no light, nothing.
After a quick search I found a suggestion to hold power+vol up/down 1-2 minutes. I did that and it booted in about 15 seconds.
My question is, what happened? why?
Is there a way to avoid it?
And if it does it again what is the best way to get it restarted?
I still plan on flashing a newer ROM, just haven't done it yet.
Thanks
Really, no thoughts on this? Phone goes blank, won't restart. Someone on XDA must at least seen it.
Happened to me once but due to my own mistake.
I wanted to boot phone into bootloader, instead of shutting and then pressing vol down + power, i forced shut the phone by pressing power + vol up, here is where i commited the mistake, instead of holding the buttons for 7 secs( after which the phone should go off) i held them a bit longer mayb 15-20 sec, after tht i tried to boot into bootloader by pressing v up + power , nothing happened, did that several times, again nothing. Tried to power it on, nothing, connected to usb, again nothing.
It seemed like i had hard bricked the phone(thoughts of losing the phone came to my mind) but after trying and trying and trying again and again. It did got up(i held vol up + power for 7-10 sec, without releasing the power button, and releasing the vol up button, instantly held vol down button and it booted to bootloader).
Mayb the phone enters into some other kind of mode which only HTC is aware of.
Thanks piyushkohli97 for the reply.
Hasn't any developers run into this? Or someone with an understanding of the issue? It doesn't seem uncommon. I'm hoping to gain some insight into the issue. Anyone else?
Hello.
My power button is broken. The only way I know to turn the phone on is removing the battery and connecting it quickly. I could get into the stock recovery pressing vol + and connecting to the charger but I need the power button to select any option, I installed TWRP recovery but I cannot use it, the button combination is different to get into (vol + & power button).
Is there any other way to turn on or use recovery when the phone is off?
Thanks
Fastbooting it from the computer is a solution..
Fastboot is disabled in android marshmallow. Now, how can we boot the phone ?
One last resort option is to send it to Alcatel. I had issues with my power button failing and they resolved it. (FTR I was still under warranty)
I had this problem. Eventually found a video for it on YouTube. I couldn't return my phone to Alcatel as I had dropped it in the toilet ? and then taken it apart to dry it out.
If its still under warranty I would return it to Alcatel. If not then the way to turn it on is a bit of a pain at first but quite easy when you've done it a few times. You do have to take the back off your phone.
If you are happy there is a reasonable amount of charge already in it then plug it in to a charger whilst holding the volume up button (or down button I forget which!) This should start the phone in the recovery mode.
Then unplug the phone.
Then very quickly disconnect and reconnect the battery.
Phone will turn on.
Put phone back together.
Keep battery charged!
