Shield Tablet and Anti Aliasing? - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Loving the performance of this tablet but one thing I wish nvidia would add is the option to force MSAA in games, maybe an nvidia control panel for per app graphics settings? I know it's only a 8" display but aliasing is quite visible and since we have performance to spare in most cases it would be great addition.
I don't suppose anyone is working on way to force this? anyway, minor annoyance from what is a great tablet.

Doesn't work, tried a few games and couldn't see any difference.

I have no issue forcing 4x from dev' in most games.
But something I learn helps improve that is forcing higher dpi/resolutions.
Working on the same principle as 4K down-sampling on 1080.
Check out texdroider, have root access, backup your stuff.
But as long as you're rooted it's as easy as opening the app, click YES YES YES whatever and reboot.
It's default change value (240?) is the one you want.
It also allowed me to use apps that only 10' tablets are supposed to be able to use, and they look great.
That free Chess game after forcing 4x AA and using a higher forced DPI looks amazing.
Though don't be shocked if it gets hotter than you might feel safe with after a while, ha.

Anyone tried the app GameBooster?

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.burakgon.gamebooster&hl=en_GB
I know that the same changes can be achieved through other (free) means , but i was wondering if anyone tried it?.. i have a friend that swears it works.
Yeah I have it on my phone and I'm using it together with Ram Booster v1.25 (need to test it without the latter to see just how much that contributes). The result is I'm playing NOVA 3 in all it's full HD glory with very little lag. The game does run a 'tad' bit slower in general but because it's uniform throughout the game it just feels like it's the way it's meant to be played.
Really? Wow thats great to hear , i might buy it to see if its really worth it.
Have you tried using autokiller , ram manager or V6 supercharger though?
Looks interesting. Would love to see if there's a free alternative though.
Okay maybe its a placebo effect , but im getting playable framerates when i use it in combination with Ram Manager pro on hard gaming, playing The Amazing Spiderman . AFAIK Gamebooster also does something similar to RMP , but it seems to be less agressive .
I also have supercharger , but i only use it to lock my launcher , nothing else.
Hey Drivenby, been a long and busy day at the studio so haven't had an opportunity to get back to you till now. Haven't used autokiller , ram manager or V6 supercharger, will have a look at them. I am using Chainfire 3D Pro however to increase the graphical quality of some of my games (like NOVA 3), but you probably figured that already.
This all shuts down all the other apps and even prevents the them from trying to boot and regains system memory.
It has its own overcloked setting after ultra gaming mode but I then can normally be change it. I really recommend this app.

Tried it with Metal Slug 3 but got to the same bit as I usually get to before the phone starts lagging like hell (Was In Ultra Mode Aswell)
Yeah it really depends on what type of system you are running . The app does work for some games but its obviously not adding more ram or doing the developers job of optimizing a game for our specific GPU . Some games do seem to work better with Ram Manager Pro on hardgaming , rather than Gameboost.
And ultra doesnt really overclock , it just sets the governor to performance , as far as i can tell. The dev claims it lowers other processes too but i dont know how to check if thats true or not.
on my opinion , gamebooster is better that rambooster and ram manager, it decreased glitch on my phone , now it's easy to play BATMAN

I honestly doubt that an app can overclock my stock kernel so easily.
Besides , Rom manager shows 1024 and gover performance. Nothing about 1.2ghz
This app made some games that ran smooth blotchy when I set to hardcore. I have been running v6 for a long time so it may be fighting each other for control. Hard to say. Still thanks for sharing. Sure a lot of people will like this app while others maybe not so much

Yeah about v6, AFAIK it changes the oom kill values, which game booster does too, so there might be some conflict.
On my experience v6 is excellent to increase performance with the Android ui and multitasking, it makes everything really snappy but at a cost.
Let's say you have the regular stock launcher and have 3 o 4 widgets and a billion icons... If you have supercharge your launcher you might make it nearly impossible for the system to kill when needed.
I think that running most games, you should have no problem with this, but with the likes of recent game loft games that are known resource hogs, you really need everything the device has to offer, and while killing the launcher might make your device post game laggy for a couple of seconds, the whole point of the xperia play is to play games and if you can't do that well, it kinda defeats the purpose.
Right now I'm trying to keep the lightest configuration possible, while still getting everything I need and more.
Currently using lightning launcher, because it's fast, simple and runs with as little as 6 mb. Only one widget too. I guess I could try super charging it, but android has never killed it that I noticed, or maybe it just redraws super quickly.
Personally went back to ram manager pro, I think the ultra settings for game booster are not optimal for gaming or something, I swear I'm getting more ram but less performance, which doesn't really makes sense but whatever.
Also it has a couple of bugs that need to be ironed out. I'll check it again when the next version comes out.

Netflix app insanely laggy

Hey all. Is anyone else having major problems with Netflix? When trying to navigate through the library it is painfully slow, I am talking 6 second delay and then a choppy partial scroll when trying to scroll. I have uninstalled updates and cleared cache to no avail. Haven't rooted yet so I cant do a complete uninstall.

I have this issue.. the netflix app is extremely laggy and unresponsive to me. Can't scroll because it thinks I am clicking where I start the scroll. Pages take forever to load. Very frustrating.
Otherwise happy with my infinity!
Yeah the netflix app is unusable in its current state. If you force 2D hardware rendering it does perform quite a bit better, but still damn clunky and way to slow to use IMO.
I am also having the same issue. Purchased my tablet from Amazon and this weekend I was playing around with it. Netflix very slow.
I've been going to the website and adding videos to the instant queue so I don't have to scroll on the Netflix app. The actual streaming works quite well though.

Yeah It does look good once you get it started. Its pretty crazy that they put the app on here stock in its current state though.
At least you can open your Netflix, mine just crashes when i try to open it. (As does the website... which is pretty odd)
Can anyone post the latest apk - I cant seem to download it from play.
Edit:
Don't worry, they updated their description on the play store with a download link.
netflix on tf700
So my wife's Nexus 7 tablet does not have the slow Netflix experience.
However my TF700 and MK802 both have the slow Netflix.
Considering the Nexus 7 and the TF700 are both Asus Tegra3 devices, can only guess it might be a problem with ICS, solved with the butter in Jelly bean.
Given that the MK802 is an ICS device with the same slowness, it does at least support the theory.
Did try netflix on my old SPH-D700 (Samsung Epic 4G) running on Gingerbread, and the netflix app seems entirely different, and has no scrolling lag. So That narrows it down to the tablet version of netflix on ICS.
Does anybody have another device that it works well?
Maybe it's optimized for some specific GPU?
More likely it's a resolution issue. 1920x1080 takes a lot more rendering power than 1280x720.

Setting the option to force GPU rendering fixes the issue entirely. I had horrible UI performance in Netflix until I turned on the option.
Go to settings\developer options\force GPU rendering. Terminate and then relaunch Netflix. Problem solved.

it does a lot better, but still not optimal. mine sometimes registers a tap when it supposed to be a drag and launches a movie or description when not wanted. i wonder it it's the tablet or netflix's fault on that.
I just tried Netflix again yesterday. I'm on Zeus 3. Downloaded Netflix from market. No lag for me anymore.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
I'm on Zeus' rom as well. Netflix doesn't perform any better now than it did when I was on stock. Still have to force 2d rendering to even be able to navigate at all, and even then it's still pretty slow. I want an interface that is smooth like the app drawer. It can't be that friggin hard.
The interface also sometimes interprets a swipe for a tap and loads up an episode I was trying to scroll past.
I'm not sure where the difference may be in our setups. I'm not even using forced 2d. Everything scrolls smoothly with no aberrant taps being detected. It works the way it should.

Thanks. Although Netflix browsing still isn't perfect, the above significantly improved it. It actually scrolls when the just a tinge of lag, but nothing to spoil the experience. Before, it was like it wanted to wait till all the images were loaded.
I also found this made just moving around in the OS much snappier.
Forced GPU renderign helps, but this is still slow, compared to Vimeo for example.
I also find that the audio is frequently out of synch with video when I view Netflix HDMI out to a HD TV.
I often have to wait for Netflix to respond to touch commands, I am very unhappy with the app.
I also have the problem of subtitles not being o/p to the HD TV, but I saw a suggested fix for that elsewhere.
I wonder if I should uncheck the Netflix developer fixes when I am not using Netflix. Any suggestions?

Try forcing 2D acceleration under Developer Settings. I think its called "Force GPU rendering." I don't have my TF700 yet but this helps Netflix on all other devices. It won't be silky smooth but it easily doubles the frame rate on my TF201.

It doesn't slow down your system. I'm sure benchmarks not made with it in mind will have lower scores but who cares? It improves the performance for many apps and that is what matters. It shouldn't affect 3D games as this setting only affects Android UI widgets.
The only real down side is that there might be an app or two out there that's not compatible with the forced GPU rendering(hence why its disabled by default). I personally have never run into an app that had issues but an app that extensively uses custom widgets potentially could.
I have noticed the same issue. The app is unusable as is...

yep, this faster product is worse than my archos 10.1 in netflix navigation. good thing there are queue managers to take care of this problem. i hated the day netflix went from a text based instant queue to this pretty shiny crappy picture list.
We had this problem on the prime too. Forcing GPU redering seemed to help, but I can say it doesn't seem to help on the infinity. What finally solved it was an update from Netflix. Worked smooth as butter after that. I'm really surprised to see it so slow on the infinity.

Power of Infinity ~ Games ~

Though I used to play lots of games, I have not had a chance to play them for awhile. I certainly did not buy tablet for the purpose of gaming but the other day I saw pretty stunning graphics and decent review about "Horn", so I ended up purchasing it.
Let's talk about some positive aspect of the Infinity, which is "gaming".
1. Tegra Zone
Tegra chips being the major line of Android Tablet, slowly but surely seem to see a growth of Tegra optimized games. Some of these are quite impressive in its graphics even compared to the portable gaming devices.
I only have one game from Tegra Zone, which is "Horn" but its quick and easy to play with stunning graphics. The other game I am looking forward to is Wild Blood, which uses Unreal Engine.
Hardware wise, other high end android tablets should have no issue supporting these games, but simply due to number of devices out there, I believe Tegra chip based device continues to see its exclusive support on high end tablet gaming.
2. Playstation Mobile Certified
The launch date has just been announced as 10/3 during Tokyo Game Show.
Though not specifically stated Infinity is one of the device included, ASUS is one of the company included in the playstation mobile certified device developer so it is natural to think Infinity be one of the device supported.
Personally, no big game at this point yet but certainly nice expansion to have.
Here is the list of games currently on market (presumably for Sony's Tablet S): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_Mobile_games
The official list of new games with launch in Japan can be seen here: http://www.jp.playstation.com/psn/psm/
There will be around 30 games or so initially, and more to come with developer kit releasing in November to further stimulate the game development on Android devices.
Update:
9/24/2012
According to zenaxe, EA games are not compatible with Transformer Infinity. So if you intend to play their games, this would be minus point.
Considering that at current state I cannot play any game no longer than 5 minutes before crashing, I am not so keen about gaming on this tablet anymore.
Also it doesn't make any sense why some people can play and others don't. Before update also no problems with my gaming..

Well Square Enix has its own online store so not sure if they will continue to use it or jump onto the Playstation Mobile bandwagon. Though there is almost no doubt that they will continue support Android as supposedly FFIII alone made them $700,000 in first a few weeks just on Android platform.

Is there a specific game that you cannot play? I can give a try if its free to see if its an issue across the board.
So far I have no issue playing any of games I installed, which are not many a few Japanese specific games, FF III, and most recently Horn. I have never had any crash or force close on any of these games. But I have not made any build prop change other than market place change. I'm on stock rom .30 version with bloatware turned off.

Well the worst thing is that it is not consistant. I can get every game crash and yet if I reboot the machine than I can play every game.
Have had crashes with every single game I have played. But if I reboot and then start playing no problems. I dont think that high end tablet should work like this especially when the booting time is actually quite slow..

Well I agree. What's tough here is probably depending on what you have installed in background etc. But either way, with high end tablet that should not matter.. I don't have much running in background. Bloatware turned off. Only real widget I have is news 360 and ASUS weather. Also, I have tons of video and ebooks, which I store in microsd rather than harddrive. So my harddrive still have tons of space open. You don't have build.prop tweak do you? Because I did that before and I had my first ever random os reboot afterwards. So this time I have not touched anything on build.prop. (Though it may had nothing to do with..)
One thing that your case raises concern is, is there any memory leak? (I don't know how Android OS deals with memory leak).

No build props or anything. Completely stock.
But yes i have quite a lot of widgets. It could be that they hog memory and result in bad user experience while gaming.
HD widgets, business calendar, gmail, email, youtube, zinio, g+, facebook, flighttrack and hanping chinese..
It could be that these reserve memory and then when playing games problems start. Nevertheless I have quite similar widgets on my phone and there no problems.
Maybe should try without widgets how it goes..

Maybe you have memory leak or memory hog. Also, one thing I really noticed performance difference is turning bloatware off. Afterall, Infinity only has 1GB RAM, which is still standard but not that much memory if you think about. But try with widget off, and potentially bloatware off and see if you can fix the issue. As I am sure it would be helpful to others.

LOL. GAMING is the only thing I'm completely UNSATISFIED with on the Infinity. Nearly every console style game I own crashes. Trying to demo it for someone is a freaking exercise in embarrassment. EA has even marked the 700 as incompatible on a lot of their stuff where it was compatible with previous TFs.
This is a systemic problem, btw, it is not a "bad" tablet. I have owned five TF series tablets and every single one of them has been exactly like this. So, really gaming is probably the last thing I would call out as a bright spot on the ASUS tabs.

Well I guess you are probably correct as majority of US user probably favors EA games over the PS games or Tegra games. I would admit that I play non of EA games, so I did not know. All I know is there were issue with playing Horn (Tegra optimized game) on Galaxy Note 10.1, which has better overall processing power and hardware.
Having said that, I know there are games I cannot play from Japanese store as simply not made for tablet and probably never will. So yes. you are correct on that regard. I will add EA incompatibility. Thanks for the info.

Oh... You didn't have to root. You could turn off bloatware without rooting. But now since you have rooted, I recommend browser2ram.apk, which boosts browser performance somewhat. But I really think the most effective thing I did was turning off bloatware. Build.prop tweak is supposedly great too, but I haven't done it and performance is still what I wanted to be so I'd rather not touch anything extra.
But I'm glad, you got it work and Horn is cool game isn't it? (It was sort of my main theme for this thread...)

I run 1.1GB file transfer over the AirDroid in background and launched Final Fantasy 3, which had no issue. In fact, I couldn't even tell the difference in launching speed and actual game play compared to no background.
On the contrary, launching of Horn took much longer and I saw ANR, which I have not seen for a while on my infinity. So basically, I hypothesize here that some of your application in background may have high I/O access or you have memory leak in your application. The latter is not proven here.
But in any event, even on my machine which generally runs Horn totally fine can become problematic when you have stress in a background so definitely I think something in your background is the issue, which you may well know already but just wanted to let you know that I can sort of confirm this.
Where can I find the Browser2RAM.apk? It's not on Google Play.

But remember this only works if you root the system and have superuser access. If you feel like your browser is running fine, you may not even need this. I do feel like I got performance boost on stock browser, but other browser's like Boat browser seems pretty much the same (relatively fast before and still equally fast).

Just a heads up that browser 2 ram will not have any impact on gaming, it could even theoretically have a negative impact on it if it fragments memory or causes less to be available for other process somehow... but it should help www browsing that is limited by eMMC I/O. I do not have many issues with browsing performance so I don't find b2ram to be very useful personally..
On the other hand, bloatware removal could theoretically help with games since it might reduce memory fragmentation over time by reducing the number of apps and services running (I have done this but it hasn't had a measurable impact for me).
Also, be aware that build.prop tweaks do have a non-zero risk associated with them. I have soft bricked a TF before with a bad build.prop edit. Make sure you have a working adb/fastboot setup at the very least before doing a build.prop hack.
Something easy to try that might really work: Get FMR memory cleaner from the market. Run it before running your game. Also, if it is crashing right at startup try clearing its cache/data (you will lose any save games/data, if you do this, though).

May be you can answer. What's the IO issue that you are facing right now? As I write more about this, and test... I am start getting a bit lost. Because when I had original two units back in July and August, I got constant ANR with browser, PDF file reading. System almost froze while I download applications from market.
I have stock with browser2ram, bloatware turned off, but no build.prop tweaks, and essentially don't see any of above anymore. The game I cannot play is simply I cannot. It's just not supported on this device. But games that runs, runs smoothly like Horn, which is probably one of the most high end graphics game right now until Unreal Engine 3 game released.
As far as your theory of eMMC affecting browser is something I am not so certain. Simply because if that is the case why would some browsers works much faster such as Firefox (which crashes too often so I don't use) but fast. Boat browser, which is stable and fast. Sure they are not as fast as Galaxy Note 10.1 stock browser, but in galaxy note 10.1, I didn't even noticed much difference in speed between the stock and other third party browsers. Sure sunspider test results were different but practical loading page speed, I couldn't tell the difference so I kept using stock on Note. Could this have been because better eMMC? I have a feeling not. Again because if that's the case all third party browser should be even much faster on that device. Would it be because of 2GB ram? Don't know. Could be but browser application demanding such huge RAM seem a bit too excessive. So my guess is actually Samsung's software. The touch wiz is highly customized on their platform like stock video player, stock browser can support multitask. So Samsung definitely went into source code level of those application and edited. So during that process, they may have optimized the browser. How can I confirm this? Probably no way unless I can talk to Samsung Developer, but it's probably same as the logic of blaming on eMMC.
Any tools to check which applications use I/O in the background?

Honor 6 fps drop

Hi guys. I just bought a pre owned huawei honor 6. It runs smoothly until I try playing Heroes Evolved Mobile. The fps usally drops and the game becomes laggy. This game runs smoothly on my samsung j7 which has lower specs than huawei honor 6. Any help or suggestion on how to fix this? Thanks
This must be the GPU's fault.

Fps,
Yah. Is there anyway so i can improve its performance?

Try reducing the graphics of the game if the setting is present.

I already set the graphics to low and resolution to low. Still the same.

Then we can't do anything about it anymore. Unfortunately.
Try to reduce screen resolution ,it will let the game run
I do not guarantee that this works, but it has helped me in similar situations; enable developer settings if not enabled already and check "Force GPU Rendering". As I said, it might help, but also make it worse.

(I'm not a pro at this stuff) but it still might give some boost in some apps right? Or make them lag even more, but the pooint was, if it helps with the fps lag, keep it enabled while you play & after you stop playing, disable it.
And there is a thread about this (https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/force-gpu-rendering-impact-performance-t3047664).
