Running 4.4.2 and Want 4.4.3 -- Confused On Some Things - Verizon HTC One (M8)

So I think I want to make the jump now to 4.4.3 from 4.4.2. Is there any reason not to? I am running CleanROM 1.4 currently and want to install CleanROM 2.0. I am just confused about what I need to do to make the jump. What firmware do I need and is that just a flashable zip? Is there anything I need to do other than the firmware and ROM? Is there a radio too or anything like that? Lastly, can I install 4.4.3 over 4.4.2 with just a dalvik wipe and cache wipe? I have so many apps on my phone wiping completely would be a total pain. Thanks in advance guys, it is much appreciated!

So then let's pretend I said 4.4.2 to 4.4.4, all the same questions asked still apply. Thanks!

Ok, is this the method I would use?
"Download 4.4.3 firmware
Rename file to 0P6BIMG(zero at the start)
Place file on root of SD card
Reboot to bootloader an click hboot it will auto detect file
Follow the prompts an you will be updated
directions for flashing firmware via fastboot an radios below.
FASTBOOT RUU METHOD
Place the zip in your fastboot/adb directory on your computer.
Put the device in fastboot mode
(Volume down and power until menu appears, select fastboot using power button)
Connect the device to the computer
Enter the following commands from terminal/command prompt in the fastboot directory, one at a time:
fastboot oem rebootRUU (this puts the device in RUU mode)
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip (rename file to firmware.zip)
It will say that the update did not finish, to flush again, so repeat the above step:
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
Then fastboot reboot-bootloader"

I'm on Viper ROM 1.8.0 with 4.4.2. I am wanting to upgrade to 2.5.0 but that requires the new firmware. From what I'm reading, I need to do a complete wipe/restore to stock 4.4.2 and then flash the 4.4.4 firmware and after that I can flash the 2.5.0 ROM?
I'm just not sure what the process is or if I'm making this more complicated than it needs to be. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2723159 I see this thread and it just contains the 4.4.4 firmware. Can I just flash that in fastboot and then wipe from TWRP? http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...ent/ruu-m8vzw-4-4-3-s-off-onlynewest-t2873144 I see this thread that has the 4.4.3 RUU.
I just don't want to brick my device, that's all. I am S-OFF with superCID, if that makes any difference. Any advice is welcome.

Yes, you got it. Some people are experiencing some weird but minor problems after flashing the 4.4.4 firmware while still running a 4.4.3 rom it seems.
I am waiting to flash the firmware until my favorite rom has been updated to 4.4.4...

[Q] Is flashing a kernel as easy as going to recovery and installing it?

Hi i'm new to the att htc one x, just rooted, and installed twrp... then flash cleanrom5. I also noticed clean has a kernel, i did not see an install guide, but i've installed kernels before on my captivate. So what i'm wondering if it's as easy as....
1. place kernel on phone storage
2. reboot into recovery
3. install kernel from recovery
4. reboot
If there anything i am missing or if i am completely off could someone please help me out with this?
Thank you :good:
If you are on the 1.14 hboot (rooted on 2.20 firmware) you can't flash kernels from recovery. You have to do it using fastboot.

Not the firmware you are on now. The firmware you originally achieved root on. More importantly, what version is your hboot (go to hboot, and the version number is listed)?
If your phone was purchased with 2.20 firmware, and you rooted using the new X-factor exploit method, you have the 1.14 hboot.
Hboot 1.14 plugged the hole by which flashing kernels from recovery was possible. So it can only be done by fastboot.

Well, If cleanROM is using the same Kernel as stock, then you got lucky. If they use the same kernel, no need to flash boot.img.
If they are different kernels and you dont flash boot.img, you are now in a bootloop

not bad
Sorry for so many questions lol, just making sure i do this right.
okay so basically i want to download the kernel and the fastboot drivers posted in your post.
Extract the fastboot drivers, and then unzip the kernel, taking the boot.img from it and placing it into the fastboot directory that i just unzipped.
I then want to boot my phone into hboot and select fastboot
open the command prompt and take it to where the fastboot.exe is.
then type fastboot flash boot boot.img into the command prompt
After all this is done i want to go into recovery and flash the zip of the kernel?
Is that all right?

So why the second flash if the boot.img was flashed via fastboot?

So although ROM zip file contains boot.img when flashing boot.img won't be flashed? That's why we need to flash is separately? Is it important to flash it before flashing ROM?
Thank you.R
I'm also, learning as I go. From reading and multiple failed attempts at flashing ROMs and kernels, I have found the correct way with 1.14 Hboot.
-dl the rom/kernel
-extract only the boot.img file
- save both .zip and boot to your desired folder.
-go into recovery and mount sd card to pc
-transfer .zip file to your phones sd card
-get back into fastboot on your phone
-transfer boot.img to fastboot folder
-from fastboot cmd prompt(if you have win7, open your folder with fastboot in it hold shift+right click and open cmd)
-type "fastboot boot boot.img" without quotes
-go back into recovery and clean cache/delvik
-then install .zip that you copied to the sd card
You should be good to go from there.
If I have left anything out, please feel free to correct.

Trying to update to 4.4.2 via TWRP Flash getting error

I'm new to rooting and android in general. I'm currently running 4.4 rooted with stock I believe. Says ponury kernal in my settings.
I'm trying to flash the update for 4.4.2 via the TWRP install. I get a failed error: error executing updater binary in zip.
I've made sure my zip is the 4.4 to 4.4.2 but still no luck. Any ideas what I can do? Do I need to wipe something before I can put it on there?
On a first thought, you need to get back to the original kernel.
Update from 4.4.1 to .4.4.2. has no problems with different kernels installed, however this won't work from 4.4. to 4.4.2.
The exact error message would be also helpful

You'll need to get the factory image and extract the files. Inside there is another zip file which you'll need to extract. That's where you'll find the images. Use fastboot flash system system.img The Mac command is slightly different, I don't remember exactly what it is. To fastboot boot its the similar format

According to your bootloader details you are at a good starting point. Here is what I recommend you do from here:
1. Download a custom recovery like TWRP:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2558503
2. flash this in bootloader mode. If you don't know how here is the help thread you need to read through:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2593382
3. Once you have a custom recovery installed, you can flash SuperSu or other root app (google is your friend.)
4. Stick with the rooted rom you have or flash another of your choosing.

Why are you using a toolkit to flash recovery???
Just download from http://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/evita
or download the unofficial TWRP from the original android dev section if you plan on flashing an AOSP or CM based Rom and then fastboot flash recovery recovery_filename.img
Easy peasy. Too many links is an error that should have nothing to do with flashing recovery...

[Q] Upgrading Nexus 5 rooted with custom kernel to 4.4.4?

Currently running Android 4.4.3. I have TWRP installed. To upgrade can I just flash system.img and radio.img within TWRP? I believe that this is how I upgraded from 4.4.2 to 4.4.3 but my memory is hazy and this was before I installed a custom kernel. I'm not sure on whether I need to do anything additional such as rolling back to stock 4.4.3 before upgrading to 4.4.4. I've seen people discuss this but I think that's just if one wants to run the OTA update.
you can. or you can just dirty flash(no wiping) a stock rooted rom from the android development section, and your kernel, and reboot

Thanks. Is there any way to do it from recovery? I hate having to hook up the USB cable, etc.
Also, this seems a lot easier than what is suggested here (Special Scenario #1) http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/info-nexus-5-ota-help-desk-t2523217
1) downloaded factory image from https://developers.google.com/androi...ges#hammerhead
2) extract the tgz, the tar within that, then extract the the zip within that to get the system.img and boot.img files
3) moved these two files into the adb folder (for the fastboot/adb method)
4) downloade SuperSU-v1.80.zip from http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
5) put SuperSU-v1.80.zip on your phone's internal storage
6) download the 4.4.1 OTA update zip from http://android.clients.google.com/pa...M.7ed504f6.zip
7) rename it to ota.zip
8) move ota.zip onto your phone's internal storage
9) boot into bootloader
10) open command prompt from your adb folder
11) connect USB cable
12) type 'fastboot devices' to check the connection
13) type 'fastboot flash system system.img'

Seems to me like people go to a lot of extra work installing the OTA instead of the factory images.

Thanks. Is there any way to do it from recovery? I hate having to hook up the USB cable, etc.
Also, this seems a lot easier than what is suggested here (Special Scenario #1) http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/info-nexus-5-ota-help-desk-t2523217

extra work is done in both those methods. just dirty flash a precompiled rooted stock rom and your kernel. itll take seconds to a minute, and you wont lose anything. and you do that in recovery.

Not to create a flamewar but I'm too afraid of security issues to install a pre-rooted ROM.

have you ever seen or heard(a real one, not just "stories") of a security issue?

The ones on XDA are safe. Just as safe as you rooting your stock ROM.

How to OTA upgrade to NOF26V?

a little background information
current build: NMF260
recovery: TWRP RC1
kernel: elemental x 1.03
rooted: yes
Mods: weta audio 9.1
So I have completely forgotten how to do a manual sideload for an OTA. Could someone give me step by step, hand holding instructions?
What I have downloaded onto PC
sailfish-ota-nof26v -4bbb310d.zip
twrp-3.0.2-0-RC1-fastboot-sailfish.img
boot.img from nof26v build (that is for recovery right?)
and i have twrp zips for supersu, elemental x, and twrp rc1
basically i forgot how to flash stock recovery, because I need to to manually update OTA right? also do I need to remove the weta audio 9.1 mod first before doing the OTA? or can i just flash over it? anyone know?
Thanks!
https://developers.google.com/android/images <---- Click Full OTA update and follow instructions. Will not wipe anything. You do need to be on official.
If you want to just flash the peices download all of them and boot into bootloader then use fastboot commands per each item. Google the commands for bootloader, radio and the kind. Very easy.

where can we get the stock recovery.img?
that is not in the ota.zip file and neither in the full factory image zip file
I'm not rooted but since no one answered as of yet then I do believe stock recovery is now in the boot.img file. Search the Pixel XL forums too.
Stock recovery is in the OTA under boot.

No need for stock recovery. TWRP has a sideload option. Check my guide here.
