[Q] HTC one M8Sw still rooted after falshing stock ruu - HTC One E8

Hi everyone!
After trying out a custom rom, I have decided to flash the stock RUU on my HTC one M8Sw (China Unicom).
So far there is no issue with that but somehow the HTC seems to still be rooted as it prompts for approval after launching any app's first time.
My phone is currently S-OFF with bootloader relocked.
My target is to return my handheld with stock RUU and without root access.
Did I miss something?
Thanks in advance for the help

How do you manage to s-off your E8?

I had exactly the same question in mind - did you use sunshine or any alternate method?

I have used Sunshine and paid $25

[Q] A few questions about bootloader ...

Hello,
I'm new to android and have been reading a lot. But not everything is clear.
With AlphaRevX you can s-off the desire s.
If you have 0.98.0000 and use AlphaRevX, will it still be 0.98.0000 or will it be upgraded to a higher number?
The desire s (gingerbread) can't be really rooted yet, only gingerbreak.
But to install a custom rom you don't need to be rooted, you only need s-off and goldcard?
Does anyone have an idea when htc will release a s-off tool or s-off bootloader?

The bootloader version number will be changed after alpharevx, to 6.something, to stop accidental bootloader down grading.
Ginger beak is the exploit that we use to achieve root, So it can be rooted!
You don't need gold card.
You're right in saying that you don't need root to flash custom, just soff and a recovery, CWM or EXT4
But you do need root to take the recommend pre custom backup
I don't see htc releasing unlocked boot loader to this device till at least late september as the schedule they've announced initially involves sensation and evo3d only

Thanks a lot, it is much clearer now.

I didn't know that.
So the only purpose of the goldgard is to downgrade the bootloader?

Yep, a pre-backup (a Nandroid backup) always helps and makes you feel slightly more secure when flashing!
Goldcards - I'm afraid that I'm not 100% sure about that.
A quote from @paulobrien @Modaco, "A GoldCard is a special SD card which, when inserted into your device, allows you to flash RUU (ROM Update/upgrade utility) files with a different CID to your own device. For example, if you own a T-Mobile branded device, this will allow you to flash a generic ROM."
As I don't own a network locked device I've never had to use one myself, so my knowledge about them is pretty thin.
Thanks, mine is also not a branded device.

[Q] Question about s-off and revolutionary?

Hi All.
Quick question, I have rooted my sensation and s-off'ed, sweet.
Here is me question, what happens if our friends at HTC update the part that made the s-off possible? Will we get the updates or will only the users who did not tinker with the firmware get them?
Cheers folks.
HTC has stated that there new HTC-DEV site will be where you will be able to S-off your device, its not gonna come in an OTA push, IMO revolutionary has got us S-off, so who care what HTC has coming for S-off....its a little late, besides if you S-off with HTC they want to document who is S-offing their devices.......eff em and just enjoy your no strings attached S-off.
Number 1...It is never a good idea to take an OTA on your phone if you have it rooted.
Number 2...OTA's may contain patches to exploits that were used to obtain s-off.
Number 3...OTA's may or may not s-on your phone depending on how the devs obtained s-off in the first place.
Moral of the story is if you want to maintain root never OTA
i own a sensation device
if i use this revolutionary tool to s-off, recovery and root, is it possible to s-on later? (e.g. to give my phone to htc service to be in warranty)
If i just use the ruuxxxxxx.exe for my device to put the official rom , the phone will be s-on again? or is there any other way?
and wht about official OTA updates? how is going to be achieved?
There is a way to to gain s-on again but it's risky atm. Look for the guide in the stickies in the development forum.
You will not get an OTA on a rooted custom ROM.. end of story!!
So enjoy

Yes it is possible to make you device s-on again just be sure to follow everything to the letter and don't screw up. Also why would you want to. If anything permanently root it and stick with that.

Sorry it took so long you cannot update when rooted. Because of clockworkmod recovery. But just install a stock bases ROM the has the update like I did. hope this helps.

[Q] S-off and the htc unlocked bootloader

Hello sensation user,
i am getting my sensation tomorrow and was wondering do we still need to "S-off" with the HTC update that unlocks the bootloader?
I mean can I install CWM & custom rom's without S-off-ing the thing first?
P.s praying for CM
Thanks for your time
Jimi
Don't use the HTC method, use Revolutionary as you can keep your warranty

Chacha problems after OTA 1.54.401.3

Hello,
My wife's Chacha has been ota updated to 1.54.401.3. Result was broken wi/fi connectivity. Phone is however s-on and locked. So, I decided to s/off it and root etc. But, htcdev utility for unlocking bootloader does not work, since the latest supported version is 1.54.401.2.
I've tried to install RUU European 1.33, but without success (also tried with the gold card) .
My idea is to downgrade it somehow in order to s/off, root and install custom rom, since she had a lot problems with stock ones, but i am stuck. Any help would be much appreciated.
my wife phone does have problem with connection phone calls
Didn't root or any stuff (she does not need it)
Now all hell breaks....
but wifi works

I am in your exact same situation. My wife's phone seems to be an HTC Europe phone and I too can't unlock it because it has been upgraded automatically to 1.54.401.3. Did you manage any progress?
+1 Here. Chacha is rooted but s-on. Does not want to unlock again via HTC website, and unable to unroot.

[Q] HTC Desire 601 Zara stock ROM

Hello
I just recently purchased a HTC Desire 601 Zara. It's network locked with Alltel. This past weekend I did unlock the bootloader via the HTC Dev website. I tried to root the device with Kingo. When Kingo would go through it's procedures and at the end would say root was successful. But the phone isn't rooted. I can open up Kingo again and it would say "Rooted: no" . and Rom manager says it's not rooted. Also I noticed after trying to root the phone, bootloader has "tampered". This tampered message didn't appear until after trying to root the device. It wasn't there after I unlocked the bootloader. Based on what I'm reading, I can't get the tampered messaged off until I get the S-ON to S-Off. Wondering how I can do that easily and also I'm having a hard time finding stock ROM so I can use CWM. Where can I find stock ROM for this phone? Thanks in advance for any help.
Anyone??
