Hello. I would like to know how to disable apps from accessing my GPS COMPLETELY (specifically FACEBOOK).
I have installed Lookout Security to locate my phone just in case it's lost or stolen, and thus from now on I will be keeping GPS turned on. I am a "GPS off" kinda guy, but with the security provided by this Lookout app, I feel safer having it on so I know where my phone is. My problem is, I have location turned OFF on facebook for facebook messaging, but every time I open it up, the little GPS icon seems to be active when app is opened. I do not want facebook to have my GPS data in any way shape or form. Also, other apps I do not really want to know my GPS coordinates.
So my question is, is there any kind of other app that I can use to dis-allow certain apps from accessing my GPS? Some apps are OK and I trust, but others just have no reason to be getting my GPS.
Thanks for any suggestions!

Are you rooted? If yes, install Xposed and Xprivacy, then you can change the location behavior per app!

AppOps can show/disable gps per app basis, or you can restrict it via Xprivacy or via PDroid, and and and..

Is there an app that I could use that will turn on the GPS remotely? I have Lookout, which uses the phone's GPS to locate the phone, but what if the GPS is off? I need an app that I can use to also turn the GPS on
Thanks!
Lookout does that.
From the FAQ:
Can you remotely turn on the GPS?
Yes! Lookout makes use of the Android phone’s GPS receiver as efficiently as possible. When a locate is requested for an Android device, Lookout can remotely turn on the GPS while the locate is running and then turn it back off again (locates can run for a few minutes to get the best location results). This helps to conserve your phone’s battery life. Lookout only uses the GPS to get your location when you explicitly request it.
But I didn't tried it, yet.
Theft aware will turn it on if it is off in settings and won't show the icon it requires root though and cost $10 its the best tho it integrates into the rom so it will survive a factory reset
Sent from my HTC Hero CDMA using Tapatalk
Tasker can do it, this app replaced many other apps I used to use. It can also locate your phone with one of the profiles.

Greetings -Not sure if this is the right forum for this question, but here it goes anyway...
I installed the AndroidLost APPS onmy Samsung Fascinate...All went well and I'm able to signon to their website...
However not getting any results when clicking the GPS tab to get the phone's location sent to my e-mail account...
I don't have GPS active on my device(have not yet downloaded the apps for that with the vendor)...
Do I need to have GPS active in order to get the location?...I know it sounds like a silly question, but I was under the
impression that I would be able to get the location via the network & GPS would not be required...Any assitance would
be greatly appreciated...Thank you...
From the original website:
View on map
Find the location of your phone on a map. With AndroidLost you can find your phone with GPS precision. Even if the phone is indoor you will get a nearby location by network accuracy.

It does not talk about other network, I suggest you to try other apps like avast (you install it and it ask about the anti theft, after that you can uninstall the antivirus keeping the antitheft, it's free and if you're rooted it can resist to hard reset) or prey (free, open source). Avast can send you an hidden sms with the position of your phone and so do prey. I've also heard about wavesecure and cerberus a lot..
BTW you can determine the position of your phone with 3 things:
-WIFI (must be on an connected to a net, it can be turned on by some application)
-GPS (must be on manually, I think this one can't be turned on by apps)
-you phone network (avast can turn on data connection)
I suggest you to try these different solution to find the best working one for you
How can I force a specific app not to use mobile data but only WIFI?
My use case is:
I like reading news through Play Newsstand, but it uses up way too much data for my plan... I would be happy to let it sync every night through WIFI and then just read the stuff from yesterday, without it constantly pulling new stuff using tens of MBs.
Any way to do that without using flight mode every time??
Thanks!
Disable background data on the app
Settings > Data > choose app then restrict background of said app.

I looked at that already, but for example today I see 25MB of Foreground data and only 5MB of background data, enough to make me think that the effect of that flag would be minimal.
In fact, the most data is downloaded while I use the app rather than in background.
Anything else I could try? I am also rooted.
Hmm, Xprivacy (xposed module) may work although I have never personally used it. But from what I have read about it, it restricts app data etc. Give it a whirl and see perhaps?
The play newsstand app has it's own setting:
'Download via Wi-Fi only'
Does this not work as advertised, or am I missing something?

It does not unfortunately
That flag only controls how data is synced in the background, but my problem is when I actually open the app to read the news. In that particular moment it starts downloading all news (and images) for the feed I open every time, and that generates tens of MB of mobile traffic.

you could get a firewall program (maybe you'll need root for it), and block it from accessing 3G (but allow through wifi)
then use tasker to turn on wifi when you are using the app. this way, the app will never use 3G

Thanks for the suggestions.
I could try both, but waiting for Android 4.4.3 to install Xposed.
If any of those can do "Prevent app XYZ from using mobile data" then it's fine.
Xprivacy could be a better choice as it doesn't sound like it's going to use up as much cpu/mem/battery as a firewall.

i'm using Xprivacy... XPrivacy isn't completely foolproof either.
there's an option to block "internet".
In android, you can call "isConnected()" function to check if you are connected, and then not do anything. XPrivacy overrides that function and can return "false".
however, apps can "ignore" or not use those functions, and just force it's way to connect to the internet. it can still succeed (you can test to see if this happens)...
firewall shouldn't be using a lot of your CPU cycles...

Thanks.
Could you suggest a firewall app in particular, considering that I don't need advanced functions at all, but merely the bit to turn mobile data off?

Lol 'Download via Wi-Fi only' is a misleading setting!
Another possible way, xposed and 'App Settings' module, could also prevent internet access I believe, but not sure if it can specifically block mobile only.

FYI, AFWall+ seems to work just fine!
I will also maybe try Xprivacy when 4.4.3 comes out and I will install Xposed.
So far, happy with the firewall approach, might come in handy for more apps that I want to prevent from using up data when underway.
Is there a way to disable fine location for a single app without rooting this phone?
The Garmin app is horrible at keeping GPS wakelocks and killing my battery so I want to allow it access to coarse location only. I still want all my other apps to work as intended so completely disabling gps isn't an ideal solution.
I really don't feel like ripping the APK apart but I may have to if nobody has a solution.
You can edit the location permissions per app and deny Garmin. But I think what you want is to not totally deny location to an app.
Hello everyone,
Can anyone trace your real phone location even if you are using fake GPS apps ?
Sometimes when I run government-related apps, banks app, money delivery apps or even food delivery apps for example, the app asks me to turn off the fake gps I'm running in the background, otherwise it won't work.
To explain more, If authorities can trace your exact phone location through cell towers, why government related apps are programmed NOT to function unless you turn off the fake gps? Does this mean that FAKE GPS apps really hide your real location?
Thanks a lot

Generally No.
But also as you said govt. related apps, they uses/traces your IP and GPS both for better service. The govt. has advanced tracking system. So, even if you are using a fake gps they can easily trace your real location without asking to turn off fake gps.
Also apps like food delivery and money transfer have good tracking systems so they can easily detect that you are using a fake gps.
Now, for fake gps apps like Fly Gps, etc.
Some of them work properly and some of them not. Also if you have a root access on your device then there are some apps that changes your IP and Location both for better work.
Yes they really hides your location but they can easily be traced and broked by any govt. or any good hacker.
Hope It Helps!
