Question about bootstrap recovery - Motorola Atrix 2

Hi all...
I have atrix 2 runing stock 4.04 and its rooted. I installed boot strap recovery but after reading the forums its seems that BMM is much better. I didn't flesh nothing over boot strap recovery sense i installed it. So my question is can i just delete boos strap recovery through the titanium back up and install BMM?
Thank you in advance.

Yes, that is correct but before you uninstall it, clear its app data in settings>apps first, then uninstall, then you should be fine to install BMM from the play store.
To be on the safest side, I'd recommend doing this at full charge on your battery just in case something goes wrong and you have to fxz (return to stock after a softbrick). Follow the instructions in the BMM installation thread as well so you know what to do afterwards.

[Q] Cyanogen back to Stock ROM

I'm on CyanogenMod7-7.0.3-NS right now but want to go back to stock 2.3.4 as wavesecure is having issues with Cyanogen and can't verify my sim.
Baseband version: I9020XXKD1
Build Number:GRI40
Will this guide work for my Nexus S? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061855
Sorry newbie here, just want to be really really sure as I followed a poor guide somewhere and got stuck up with the google logo and lock on boot, hence was forced to install cyanogen.

Okay..so to close my question. I just followed this and everything went back to stock.
theunlockr.com/2011/01/20/how-to-unroot-the-nexus-s
1. followed the link above.
2. I remain rooted but recovery went back to stock. no more clockwork.
3. after booting, was alerted of a 2.3.4 update..so I updated again.
4. marketplace has been upgraded to the new interface (probably bec of the update)
5. to install screenshot app and fontchanger..I needed to have super user, so I just installed Clockwork (recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.4-) again and installed SU (su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip) via SD card install.
6. so far, everything's good.
If you have some questions, feel free to ask.

Is there a way to return to stock while keeping CWM ?
You can stay on stock rom while you are rooted. You can google it. I got my 2.3.4 from ardoid.com
Its a stock rom with added arabic support. Since you dont need arabic. It wont make any difference to you.

I'm not asking for keeping root, only to revert back to stock while keeping CWM
Clockworkmod will stay on your phone. As far as i know, all your phone recoveries will be done through cwm

I read somewhere that flashing a stock ROM will restore the stock boot/recovery. Is it true ?
That i cant answer u. But i can say that i went back and forth between roms. Reverting to stock when needed. CWM stayed on my phone.

Stuck on bootloop from Clockworkmod 5.8.4.9

PLEASE HELP!! I have successfully rooted the device and was doing ok after flashing CWmod recovery 6.0.1 through E-Z recovery app and running Liquid Rom. I managed to be dumb enough to flash CWMod version 5.8.4.9 through Rom manager and when I rebooted my phone it got stuck in boot loop. I am able to get into CWMod 5.8.4.9 but I cannot restore my backup anymore. I can also data wipe and install a new rom, but it all just keeps going into bootloop and I cannot get past the samsung custom unlock screen. It first flashed that, then the android man pops up on the next screen like its loading something and then just keeps looping through the process. I did not use ODIN for any of this process and I dont know how to get myself back tothe point where I can reboot. Any help would be tremendously appreciated, because I'm dead stuck and in a panic. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Happend to me last night...
I made the same mistake... DO NOT download any recoveries from ROM manager. I found out the hard way... So the problem now is your phone is stuck using the recovery you downloaded. I am not sure of a quick way using that recovery if you can revert back but... My solution got me where I needed to be in order to get going again.
I had to use Odin to root to stock ROM. Yes when you wipe it will destroy your data but not your pictures, downloaded files, and other files you put on there. When I re-rooted with stock all my stuff for CM10, gapps, and the kexec CWM was there.
So use this guide...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28530394&postcount=1
Section 1!!!!! And follow the steps EXACTLY the way it says to.
This is why i have never liked rom manager...
The best solution for us to flash recoveries is ez recovery free from the market. I would use this going forward once you Odin back to stock

How Do I Backup the Operating System?

I rooted my S3. I have not unlocked it.
I would like to backup the android operating system, the apps, and the data before I allow the recent OTA update.
Based on my research, I believe I can use titanium to backup everything except the operating system. How do I backup the operating system?
I tried the Volume Up/Power/Home Button restart. It gives me the option to restore but not to backup.
What am I missing??

Thank you for the speedy reply. I did a quick search and found quite a bit written on installing a custom recovery including on the S3.
It appears that I can only back up to a custom ROM such as ClockworkMod Recovery or TWRP Recovery and not the base ROM as it is on the phone now. Is that correct?
I have ROM manager on the phone so I expect the ClockworkMod Recovery would be the way to go.
Nope, CWM and TWRP are custom recoveries. You'll have to install one of those in order to backup. Go onto the app store and search for EZ Recovery. Use that app to install the recoveries(it's the easiest way for someone new). Then you just boot into your recovery and do a backup of your current setup.
Download EZ Recovery and flash CWM then boot into recovery and choose the backup option.

Custom recovery will backup stock rom. You will not be able to install any OTA until untill you Odin back to stock.
Thank you for the replies.
I guess I should have included in the initial post that all I have done is root the phone......I think.
I never unlocked the phone with Ez-Unlocker
I never used Rom-Manager either.
I did install SD Speed Increase and increased the SD cache size from 128kb to 1024 kb.
Thats it.
Does this information change the previous recommendations?
No, just install EZ Recovery and follow the directions listed in one of the guides in the stickies.

Yes, if you have a custom recovery you cannot accept an OTA. The install will fail. You will have to Odin back to stock in order to take the OTA.

Thank you for the input.
There is a lot of information on this topic but its not easy to determine which of it applies to my situation. I feel pretty good about being able to Odin back to stock but I'm not sure I want to take the risk of doing that (probably not much risk) just to get the latest update.
I expect the best thing for me to do is decide to either 1) go ahead and install CM10 (I think that's the one I would want) or 2) go back to stock and stick with the Verizon software. I'd like to get Jelly Bean now, but I'm not sure its worth the risk. We'll see.
Thanks again!
If u use ez recovery and flash back the stock recovery u can then accept the ota just fine. As long as u haven't messed with any system files you are good. Then just re root it once ota is done.

Thanks for the info.
I have installed EZRecovery and it seems pretty straightforward. I'm still trying to decide if I want to go for a Jelly Bean ROM now or just wait.
I'll just keep reading until I'm comfortable that first, Jelly Bean will give me improvements worth the risk, and second, I won't brick the phone.
I have been fooling with computers since the 70s but Android is somewhat different and it will take a while to learn something about the architecture.
Thanks again.

If new I would flash an ICS rom first and get you a stable daily driver setup and backed up. Regardless of what you read all JB builds are buggy to an extent since they are all ports. The advantage of Android is as long as you have a stable Nandroid you can experiment with more advanced ports. Backup IEMI also and be careful jumping back and forth between AOSP and TW based roms. This is where the most problems come up. From what I've seen if flashed AOSP base it is best to Odin back to stock before going back to Touchwiz.

Or Twrp
I prefer twrp as it will allow you to name the backup from within recovery as well as some things cwm doesnt do.

Please help, phone freezes after installing rom. Rooted just fine.

I have tried to do research and couldn't find any answers so i figured i would try here. I have a Verizon gs3 4.1.2 JB. I rooted it perfectly fine, installed clockwork and the bootloaders. I downloaded EZ-Unlock then unlock it, and Rom Manager from the market. Everything installed right and runs. I downloaded the new JellyBeans13 rom and go to install it, before i do i do the factory wipe then install the rom and it goes through the install and tells me to reboot so i did and it freezes on the Samsung Galaxy SIII screen. I restored it back to factory and did everything again and this time after installing the JB13 i wiped cache and did the davlick wipe as well then rebooted, and same issue occurs. Should i try a different rom or am i doing something wrong? Any answers are much appreciated.
Did you check the md5?
Are you doing all this stuff in the latest clock work mod?
Sounds like a bad download or you forgot to wipe system or something.
Personally I use twrp instead and stay away from ROM manager all together.
Others may have better luck with cwm and ROM manager. But it is mainly a preference.
I'm just saying, but cwm doesn't like my phone, so my opinion may be bias

The md5 is fine, i wipe the system everytime. I am going to try a different rom next and i will try twrp instead maybe that will work for me i am just not familiar with it. I have only tried the JB13 rom and had 3 failures. Is there a link to use the twrp instead of rom manager and cwm? I appreciate the replies guys.
Now my gs3 after factory resetting it is stuck on 4.0.4 and cannot find a software update.

Nandroid Manager

When I use this app on proclaim with CWM installed, I use reboot into recovery and it goes for quite the boot loop Joy ride.
Thus forcing me to re-flash the stock recovery, then re-re-flash CWMr.
Then I go back intoNandroid Manager and it still doesn't recognize my CWM, saying to reboot into recovery then boot into OS.
Is there any way this can be corrected?
PS.
Sorry if I posted in the wrong place, the Nandroid thread seems locked.

Not sure what you're talking about,
This is what I know: Nandroid manager will cause a boot loop if you use reboot into recovery option. As far as the CWM goes, not sure what other version's may or may not work. I'm using AA51's 6.0.1.2, I believe. I suggest going to androidarea51.com for further assistance on working CWM versions.
Hope this helps.

I think my issues are because I'm using a custom cwm version that just doesn't play nice with boot programs. On Proclaim its best and safest just to boot into recovery using the physical button method if you run a custom Rom. Boot loops aren't cool and can potentially render your phone useless if you can't find the stock recovery. In this case, you'll have a perma-bricked paper weight.
