It's a bug many people face in cyanogen mod, try the latest official nightly , maybe its fixed by now as ics style is based on older release.

apk stands for 'Android application package file'
in layman's term its setup file (.exe) like you have in windows!
installing from playstore is the same thing as installing form .apk from sd card -_-

i am a newbie so if i asked something stupid please be gentle.
Check If the custom rom you wanted to flash is for your device or not....
Carefully check model no etc before doing so...... Because for every device you need only the rom build specially for it....
Ok

I think you can install android 4.1 and above compatible apps....
But tell me that all apps are not installing or only some apps....
Because apps won't install if same version already exists or the apk package is unsigned....
So check 2-3 more apps like apex Nova launchers... And check if these are working or not
Hit thank button if this post helped you

Only some apps aren't installing like apex would install, but nova will not..!!!
Have you tried signing the app...
To sign the app download "ZipSigner.apk"
.
.
.
And uninstall previous version if already exists..

the apps are signed and i don't have any previous version of them...
when i try to install them...it says parse package error and i also have checked the allow non-market apps setting and the apps are not corrupted as they install on other devices..
.
.
From the starting i just wanted to ask... does custom roms only provide the ui style of the kitkat or we can actually install kitkat compactible apps on them????

this error occurs when either file is currupt or not compitable with android version.
and i think if you install kitkat custom rom then you can install kitkat compitable apps... it should not be depend on your device's stock rom...
but dont have much information about it... ..

Not sure if this is what you are looking for. I just grabbed the 4.4.2 system dump that was posted here :<http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2724162>

Will a sense apk install on a cm Rom? You may need to grab a diaper from liquid or one of the aosp toms?
I'm going to another ROM right now

,
heres what i would do. First download titanium back up free and find the phone app and back up phone+data then go to recovery do a nandroid back up flash cm11 then gapps, and then once youve got everything loaded go to the play store and install titanium backup and htc sense service pack. After that go to titanium backup and restore the apk+data from there

[Q]Where is the Google Play Store apk located within a ROM?

Hey there,
Haven't been doing this for long, but decided to give ROM building a try.
I was curious so I looked into the zip of a ROM that included gapps. Many of them were in /system/app, but I couldn't find a Google Play Store apk.
Does it go by a different name? Is it even there?
The Google Play Store is part of the gapps.
In KitKat and Lollipop ROMs, it's part of a Gapps, but in Jelly Bean ROMs, it's in system/app. APK's name may be Phonesky.apk.

On older phones it's Martket.apk
In kitkat /system/prive-app/phonesky.apk

[Q] How to get the H2O launcher working on CM12.1?

Hi Everyone,
Just tried Hydrogen OS rom and I very liked the launcher. However after extracting it from the .zip I am not able to get it installed.
Anyone able to modify the .apk?
Link : https://www.dropbox.com/s/e21xwail9oaed5s/OPLauncher.apk?dl=0
Thanks.
It's possible that you need to install it as system app

Install through adb or as system app didn't work for me. Have you tried?
It's probably tied into the Hydrogen ROM framework, in which case you probably can't install it on any other ROM.
