I've noticed, when I install twitter/facebook that the Z3 seems to get excited and mention some sony app or other. And there's a weather app which just updated itself but I've not used or bothered to look for. I've gone around and uninstalled all the pre-installed apps which can actually be uninstalled (some can't) but I'm not sure what these ones are.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about, and can add anything here? Is there a definitive guide to all of Sony's added software, what's good/bad, what can be stopped/disabled etc without harm?

Hi,
I'm wondering if we could make a list of unsafe bloatwares to remove. For example, I came across this:
APPS YOU SHOULD NOT REMOVE:
-Don't remove weather, news, or FriendStream. The widgets should be fine but not the actual apps. They are too deeply integrated into the system and will break things. Some people have not experienced problems while others (including myself) have seen some major issues from removing these. It's best just to avoid.

I am new to Android (been only 3 days!), so I don't know enough to know if the above comment is true. And, I think there will be other people in the same shoe as myself. So, it may be helpful to create a list that we can just glance at to know which bloatwares are safe to remove and which are not.

most of the htc apps are ok to remove. when i was running a sense rom, i removed pretty much all of the htc apps. the only one i had an issue with after removing it was the friendstream.
you can always make a nandroid backup of your current working rom, then start deleting things and seeing if it has an effect. if anything breaks your phone, jot it down, restore the nandroid, and keep going.
its fun!
cant find the list of the apps ok to remove, can someone help?
Hello,
I just recently got my htc sensation temp. rooted and have been disabling apps. So far, I have just taken care of the obvious ones, but I see people going to TOWN on this phone! I also see people talking about having huge increases in performance. I have seen slight improvment, but nothing great. Are there any particular apps that people are stopping that I should be aware of, or is it due to people nearly clearing the phone of everything on it?
Ive been going through the task manager, and looking for things running that I dont need. (Found apps such as google maps running little sub programs that I dont want for instance). I try to find the name of the program, and then pm disable. Is this what everyone is doing, or are you guys just wiping stuff and seeing what happens?
BTW-I have zero experience with this sort of thing, yet still figured out how to get where I am, thanks this forum.

Please search next time. This was in the first "Remove bloat" thread in development section.
No offense, but I wasnt asking for any lists...I was asking for something much more specific.
I saw that list...
What I asked was whether or not there is a method to the madness, or are people just removing EVERYTHING that they can despite whether or not they want it? I saw several apps in there that id like to have, such as the calculator.
Matt
I think people are just disabling what they don't want: carrier apps & other preloaded crap
Hello,
I am now running into a snag...Everything I try to disable, only says "killed". I can still enable a process that I disabled, and then disable it again, but no new disabled processes? Is this due to the root being weak, like it is, or something else?
Thanks,
Matt
(I apologize for bad English, I am not a native speaker. I also apologize if I out this in a wrong spot, because I am still a new user.)
I got a new Sony Xperia E3 as a gift. Problem is that it´s filled with useless apps. I downloaded better replacements, but, as I found out, fully removing bloatware is pretty much impossible without root. And I know I am probably going to get killed for this, but I am too scared to root my phone. I really don´t fully understand this rooting and heck I am bad with phones in general, so I am not going to try yet. (But I WILL root if Sony does not allow upgrade to Android Lollipop. ) I am going to use bloatkill.zip technique to free some space, though, so anyone has a list of apps I can safely remove from this phone? I know there is a official list on this site, but it´s not for sony xperia.
Firtsly if you root your phone you dont lose your warenty but if you unlock your bootloader. For now (31.12.2014) you have to unlock bootloader so you can root your phone so its a little problem. Here is some of the apps to remove:
All Sony stock apps (I only left the album app because i like it.)All Google apps ecsept the Google Play.If you don't use the printer option you can remove it.On my E3 it took like 50-80 mb RAM so i deleted it.There are move but these are the biggest RAM wasters in our devices.

You can delete all sony apps except Walkmam, movies, and albums. You can delete the preinstalled games, and the mobile operator apps, but this only can be made just if you are root.
Hi, I've been a Blackberry user for many years, but the time had come to move on.
So I have a P8 Max coming from WondaMobile in Hong Kong to me in the UK.
I've been reading and learning about Android/P8 Max, but I thought I'd just ask for some 'Get Me Started' help please.
I'm not 100% sure about rooting yet from what I've been reading. That will be next step I expect once I'm used to it all.
So what I'd like to know is what are the initial things you'd all do with a P8? Ie, remove apps, recommended apps to install etc.
Thanks in advance. Even though I'm pretty savy with tech I feel like a newbie all over again!
I came from BB too and the first i did was Update to the latest Version (right now its B028) then i rooted and removed all the Bloatware and installed the minimal Google Apps/Services.
Is the bloatware obvious?
Yes somehow if u dont know the app or its a chinese service delete/freeze it!
Saw you posted a rooting guide. Thanks for that. Looks very useful.
Would it not be easier for me to use RootGenius?
I am not sure if it work, i know that the method in my guide Works cause i did i a few times!
I would suggest get a launcher ether google launcher or nova or something else, i am for example using action 3 launcher pro that gives me the ability to have the BB option to swipe widget from icons as on the BB Priv. Maybe even get an icon pack or something, i am rocking Cryten icon pack, pretty cheap and cool usually all that goes on 50% off or free pretty oft. After that i dont believe there is anything else you need rather than apps
Thanks.
Hi there all
I have an important question. As I have never been a huge fan of Gapps, and currently using 2 devices with Android, I have 2 questions regarding safety on those devices.
1st one: AOSP Rom, 4.4, no Gapps or anything Google's installed, just the open source F-droid, and sometimes downloading an app via Google Play download sites. I regularly update my Firefox web browser, but since I dont have any Google apps such as Play Services, does that mean that I wont get any important safety updates for my device?
Does this mean that, using any "not the latest" Android device without Google Play Services is a dangerous device? Do I really need it?
2nd device, Android 4.2 with Gapps installed (no custom rom), but with all Gapps deleted or disabled, including Play Store and Services. Also using the open source F-droid. Same question: is this device vulnerable?
I suppose they are vulnerable even with the latest Firefox installed, as Android bugs are not repaired at all. Is there anything I could do to make my devices safer? My 4.2 device is not able to be rooted as it is an unknown brand. My 4.4 device is the Sony Xperia T phone.
I only use my devices to check email, read the newspapers, do some Facebooking and Whats-apping and have some medical apps installed.
Many thanks for reading.
@ruben112 , not sure if this would be helpful , and you may have already seen ; but is an informative thread.

Thanks a lot for the thread, I had looked for some tutorials but hadnt found them yet! So newer Androids dont per se bring better security? And with some of those apps the security bugs get fixed too?
as i understand things AOSP is less intrusive than what some custom roms are based on. as far as android versions go , "stagefright" is a vulnerability that just got patched in lollipop (i think). but i believe there are sometimes tradeoffs , i.e. the newest may give more security while at the same time taking more control over an OS.
i am really hoping someone more knowledgeable will chyme in :what:. as far as apps go ; just look at what permissions are asked for by the app , some are quite unreasonable to say the least.
i personally never install gapps.
sorry i dont really know more.

Thanks. That is exactly what Im wondering: I almost use no apps so they might have security issues but there should not be that many, OS updates on the contrary could in theory make your phone much safer, but do they do it and could the issues not be patched otherwise?
if you have way more knowledge than me about coding and such then you might be.able to patch it yourself.
i personally do not know any other way. but there probably is.
