Hey all,
One of my friend knows this technique of sending a message type of notification. The message comes, displayed on my home screen . It doesn't say who it came from or anything. My friend is not telling me how he's doing this. I don't know if its an app or what. I will post a pic (a screenshot i took) of how it exactly looks. It works with iPhone and even android, He's using a iPhone though .
he is changing the message to priority 0 which makes pop up no matter what and you have to dismiss them, the apps that do this arent easy to come by especially since most providers block it. Google playstore use to have one but they removed it
You are referring to Flash SMS or Class 0 messages as stricker49 pointed out. One app that does this - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jomegasoft.flashsmsnoad2&hl=en

Hey guys,
As the title says, I'm brand new to the Captivate.
When I'm having conversations over text message, is there any way to make the incoming texts appear on my screen in the order in which I receive them? Right now all of my typed messages appear at the bottom of my screen, and if I receive a text I have to scroll all the way to the top to view it.
For example:
Friend: Test
Me: Response
Friend: Test
Me: Response
If messages were typed in this order, it currently appears like this on my phone:
Friend: Test
Friend: Test
Me: Response
Me: Response
Is there any way to change that? I love everything about this phone, but it's getting obnoxious having to scroll up 10 or 15 texts every time I receive a new one from somebody. Thanks in advance.
Honestly, the simplest fix is to use handcent or another third party messaging app.
Edit...I see you are brand new to the captivate.....you heard of the inspire? Might want to give it a thought.
Hmmm... It's certainly not supposed to be like that. My phone always showed the messages in the order I received them, so something is wrong and I couldn't find anything in the settings to change it. You might want to try Handcent from the market, there's a free version and it is EXTREMELY customizable. I mean, it's down right ridiculous how much you can customize every aspect of your SMS and MMS using it. Maybe that'll be a simple fix for your messages not appearing in order. If you decide to go with Handcent, make sure you turn notifications off in the stock messaging app or else you'll get two separate notifications each time you get a text, which gets annoying pretty quickly.
EDIT: I guess I type too slow, newter beat me to the punch
I get the a very similar (or even same) thing running Cog or stock. What I have noticed....this only occurs if your reply has the same time stamp as the received message i.e. if you receive a message at 9:46pm and reply to it within the same minute (in relation to your phone's time), also 9:46pm, your message will show out of order.
Hmm....now that I look over my messages...I have a MILD theory...
Messages are organized in chronological order, but the time stamps do not include seconds, only down to the minute. Afterwards, the system has to organize by something....so it goes to Name. My first guess would be if the message is sent from someone with name that comes before "Me" alphabetically, their message (send at the same minute) would appear first, and vice versa if their name is after "Me." Errr.....maybe it is by phone number, not name.......errrr....damn, that doesn't hold up 100% either now that I have looked even harder.....jeez.....only 1 message might jump up?
eh, I've just learned to live with it. Can't be too picky. Every phone has its little quirks. Just depends on which ones you want to deal with
I had the smell issue with either stock or handcent messaging apps. The problem to me was the time in my region being sent by the cell towers was off by about 70 seconds. When I would travel to another region of the country, I didn't have a problem.
I solved it with a program from the market called ClockSync (though I'm sure there are others) which sets the correct time on my phone.

I searched youtube high and low. But no one actually really shows how the edge works for things like notifications. The main things I want to know is how it looks or acts or works when someone sends a text message. Or in my case more importantly a KIK message. My partner and I use KIK to communicate all the time instead of text messaging. Does it pop up on the edge? Or does it only show at the normal top of the phone needing the whole screen turned on? If it shows up on the edge does it just say new kik message? Or does it show the message from the person?

I have a note edge G version.
To answer your questions YES , you get the message itself on the edge screen because of which i actually disabled the Heads Up display. If i get a message in Whatsapp and say i am in the homescreen, the senders name and the message first few lines only, is shown. This works on most apps but I have noticed that only the first few lines are shown and then a series of periods..
To get message on the edge screen while the phone is locked, you can search RuggedAutoHunter here in the forum. He has developed an app that can show you messages even if the phone is not unlocked. Pretty neat.
Hope it helps.

Thanks, And I clicked the thanks button lol. I'll search that. Is there a way to turn off showing the first few lines of the message? Some times I have to set my phone down in public at a job site and wouldn't want someone walking by while my partner sends me a sensitive message and seeing what she says. I mean I'd still like to see new kik message received or new text message received etc on the edge while the screen is off. But don't want private information to be seen by anyone and everyone lol. Thanks again

That's a question you have to ask RuggedAutoHunter because that would only apply when you have the screen off/phone locked.
Bit of an odd request I'm sure, but I need to block any updates or notifications of a certain chat without leaving it altogether. This includes the number that appears on the whatsapp icon as well as the chat in my chat logs.
My situation is this: my boss is forcing me to be a part of a regional "shoutout" group where we post our sales. This is on my personal phone using my own phone number. Work will not supply me with one. The group gets 10+ messages an hour, so when I look at my phone I'm always checking it in case it's a friend messaging me. If I leave the group, my boss will give me hassle & often if I leave, I get re-added by our regional manager without being asked.
I understand my problem is work are being *insert expletive here*, but hiding the chat solves my problem as I will never actually need to read or post to it. Archiving only hides old messages & new ones still make it show up.
Anyone got an app mod or even an xposed module that will help? My phone's a stock S7 Edge but I'd even root it just to get around my problem...
Thanks in advance
Just hold down the chat you don't want to see, then click on the speaker icon at top of screen, click on mute for 1 year (that's the maximum mute time), make sure you uncheck the show notifications box. That should sort it for you.

OK i use the S8+ and i HAD a huge problem with whatsapp notifications and the always pop up display. I like having the pop up appearing each time i receive
a whatsapp message, instead of that small blue pop box at top of screen. I tried everything to rectify the problem and even emailed whatsapp to sort it out.
As usual i just got a generic reply. All of the settings in the app and phone were all set properly and i was angry.
Besides whatsapp , i was also NOT getting proper text message notifcations, but the same old blue small banner at top of the screen.
What i did next astounded me. I DELETED whatsapp from my phone..................i reinstalled it straight away BUT..............................
Whilst i was installing it again, there are some TICK boxes to complete. The first was the usual stuff like allow all things like contacts, location, numbers etc etc......................the next box it asked if i wanted something to do with SMS settings etc (i forgot now)................i DECLINED this one or ticked NO.
Now.....everytime i use whatsapp i get the proper pop up screen......even in the locked screen, and i receive proper text messages as well. No more small blue banner at top of screen. So i guess if you accept the second box on installation you get the small banner preview box and it therefore conflicts against whatsapp..........and if you declne......you get a proper whatsapp and a proper text message.
Hope this clears everything up

That blue pop-up is most likely being caused by Edge Lighting being on.
Hello people, I am on Op6 and this is an issue I really find irritating. I know this is built into system but was wondering of there is any way to get rid of. The thing i am talking about is receiving the same notification again and again after ignoring it. For example I am using whatsapp and have a message from a specific person whom i choose to ignore so I swipe the message away and its gone but again if i get a message from another person the same previous message pops up again. This happens overall in all messaging apps for me. This is really irritating because whenever i get a message all the previous ignored messages no matter how old popup as notification again. Any fix or help will be appreciated.
