Z3 Dodgy power button - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a 5 day old Xperia Z3, purchased on three UK on contract.... the other day I noticed the button didn;t feel right, in that I have to really press hard to make it switch screen off/on.
If I listen closely I can hear some squeaky noises from there.
any advice? Sony said they can send it off for repair, but I feel a handset less than a week old should be replaced for a new one?

[Q] New (Replacement Phone) Why can't I get a new one?

So my Sensation has been working beautifully since I got in on June 8th at Walmart. The touch screen starting acting up today July 2nd and it isn't bad but the lock screen freezes mostly and I can't unlock the phone for a until after a few attempts.
I called T-Mobile and asked for a new phone since I have insurance. They are sending me either a "new" or "like new" phone. Does "like new" mean that the phone might have scratches on it? I don't understand why the phone is only a little more than 4 weeks old and I can't have a new phone?
Is this common?

other post one here talking about this, look through them it is common and were finding out that spec builds and dates are buggy example my old one was 5/31/11 ZT15 made in taiwan second one that works flawless is 6/6/11 SH16 made in china
*u dont have a warranty on phone? 30 days id go to store and replace it

Vodafone Uk only allow you 7 working days cooling off. After that you are locked into the contact and any faults with the phone have to be sent for repair and when this happens you may get a "quality assured replacement" rather than your own. Sounds like phone companies the world over try to [email protected]#k you over. Complete joke.

Officially thats correct, but mine (UK Voda) started to have the touch screen problem after 3 weeks, called them and they sent me a brand new one, i don't know if I got special treatment as i have been a customer for ten years or that they know of this 'fault' and are just replacing them, regardless i'm on my second.
to add the 7 day cool off is for web orders, if you buy from the store you have zero cool off.

Just FYI the SH16 thing has nothing to do with it being a sharp screen it is part of the serial number, and so far there have been no reports of a Zenith screen. Just want to clear this up before more rumors get started.
As far as a replacement device from Customer service they have to tell you this because it is there policy. However the device is new and they likely will not start shipping refurbished units for at least 4-6 months and maybe even longer than that. You will be getting a new device just different packaging.

Are you sure? I got into a big fight with the rep on the phone saying that I paid $148 at walmart for a new phone, and have it a little over 4 weeks (not even a month), and should expect a new phone. The rep told me I would not know if it was new or like new until the phone came. I just don't want to get a phone that has a scratch on the screen or anything like that. Am I just over reacting lol? Pressed screen sound

Does the sensation make cracking sounds when you press on the screen with little effort? It is similar to the sound the back battery cover makes when it gets pressed on other devices. Just quivering if its a defect or normal. I think its the noise of the edge of the screen rubbing with the frame of the phone.

There are a lot of threads about this. A lot off people are getting new covers from HTC. You can also try to put a little tape on the inside of the cover, to make.it more snug

Yeah. It's a defect with the back casing. I didn't have it for the first week or so that I owned the phone but it started appearing after that.

I'm getting it next week so I'll let you know. I did my exchange through T-Mobile. I tried doing it online, but the CSR rep wasn't picking up on what I said so I just called. They handle all the stuff for me and are sending me a phone from HTC.
I got my replacement today and it was just the phone, not the back cover. Not sure if it's a refurb or a new model. I have no more creaking sounds and the screen doesn't "give" anymore either. Hope that helps.

I'm sorry, but that's just ridiculous. You complain about sounds created from actions that aren't part of everyday use. It's like you sit and look for defects just so you have something to complain about. It's insane. I'm sorry if this comes off as rude or a rant, but it just bugs me seeing just so many useless threads like this.

If you're talking to me, it isn't the only issue I had. I had light leaking through the bottom left hand corner, the text/screen flicker issue, and the fact the battery would overheat while charging at times. I paid a premium price for the phone and I expect to get my money's worth. I don't think that's unfair.

I agree. i have searched and found a bunch of people that had the creaking sound when pressing on the screen. unsure why but my intention was to find out of it was common and everyone had this issue or not. i also have screen problems at times and that is when i called tmobile about it and at the end mentioned the creaking sound. the back shell is defective thats why its creaking. if i really wanted to start picking things to complain and return the device i would have done that for not having a external sd or small pointless crap like that or how the official case covers holes in the back. i also had pixalation problems on the screen. my biggest problem was just i had to press the screen a bunch of times just to get it to respond. we are paying $500+ for phones so we expect them to work!

Most if not all of those issues were made known in various reviews of the Sensation before it was officially released.

On some units, yes. But not all units have these issues. I didn't even mention the lock screen issue when half of the screen disappears or the ring isn't responsive. I wouldn't mind if I only had one of those issues, but all of them combined got to be too much.

I see your point, but I guess what I'm trying to get at is that me personally, I read up a whole lot on every phone I get before I make that jump to buy. I have "a person" that gets the newest gadgets to me alot cheaper than retail and I still read up. So, if i was gonna pay $600 for a new device, please believe I'd have studied on it long and hard first, knowing all of the pros and cons, and weighing them out. Them making the purchase and being satisfied with what I'd bought because I made a solid decision after thoroughly researching it.
BTW, sorry to hear you got a bad one. So far, the only issue I've had with mine has been the fact that sometimes it takes 5 or 6 tries to unlock the screen cuz the icons move instead of the ring, so I can understand your frustration.

Did it have anything about the warranty? New units have one year. Refurbs come with 90 days. So if it was a new unit, it could technically say 1 year. I dont know for sure, just guessing. How's the quality of the replacement unit? Any scratches/blemishes anywhere? Thx.

I think it's software. I'm not having the issue on my new unit, but we'll see. It started appearing on my original after a week or so.

No, it didn't. Not as far as I can tell.
It's not too bad. Don't see any scratches/dust/or whatever. The speaker isn't as good as my old one and the yellow tint is a bit noticeable, but there's no screen flicker. Other then that it's a pretty good phone.

Should I return my Moto G from FlipKart?

I bought it from FlipKart.
some days back by mistake I dropped it while talking.
It went on to survive the incidence but there are some minor scratches on phone.Screen is intact as of now.
I was thinking if I should get it replaced saying some other hardware issues as I can see that FlipKart does not really check if handset is defective or not.
Please let me know what are your thoughts on this. I have only about a week to return it.

They won't replace it for sure, you have to take it to the service center and get it in written that the phone can't be repaired, then only Flipkart will replace it #Experienced

Can't believe Verizon is doing this to me!

I am so pissed. Long story short. I ordered the s6 through Verizon, got the phone and it was great until the 10th day. I started having issues. So I told them and they said they'd send me out another. I told then I absolutely do not want a refurbished phone and they guaranteed me it would be a brand new one. Wtf do i get the next day? A refurbished piece of crap that had scratches all over when 3 different reps assured me they'd be sending me a new one. I called them back pissed.
So after hours of talking on the phone I get them to send me a brand new one that would come in the white box. They told me it would arrive on may 29th(which was 10 days away) because they were all on backorder waiting for the shipment from Samsung. So I've literally been calling every few days asking them what the update is and every time a diff rep just tells me that the order is placed and everything but it's still on backorder. This has happened 3+ times now.
It's been 3 weeks now and I just called again and told them this is it I've had enough and the guy tells me for some reason the order never processed because of some terms and conditions crap so he said he has to figure it out with his supervisor. I can't believe this seriously. Are the people at Verizon the dumbest individuals in the world or am I being toyed with here?

I tried that but all of the Verizon stores in my area were totally out of stock of the black s6 and they said they'd charge me to switch colors.

Multiple issues. I experienced, Bluetooth issues, got a few scratches on the phone and occasional messed up audio when on the phone. I got them to send me a new one. Should be here Thursday. Found out he order never went through cuz the stupid supervisor didn't approve the order.

I haven't been impressed with Verizon customer service, either. The first phone I got was never activated, and when I called to get it activated, the rep just redid my order and sent me another phone lol. I had to reject the 2nd phone, and I finally spoke to someone that knew what they were talking about.
It seems as though 1 out of every 3 reps know their stuff, the rest have no clue.
I'm still waiting for my $100 port in credit, and I know it won't be on my 3rd billing cycle, so I'll have to call them again :/
Never even talked to a rep. did everything online. Ordered phone on Friday, arrived Sat, activated without doing much other than turning the phone on (SIM card was already installed). I didn't port my number until I checked out the phone and ported the number on Monday morning, took about 20 min and about 1/2 hour after that to get the SMS texting working right.
No communication with a rep at anytime.
Sat night when I realized I already had the latest build (was waiting for an OTA), I rooted the device with PingPongroot. Had to do it twice but it stuck and was very easy. never connected the phone to the computer (yet).

This is literally the only way to do it. Companies like VZ and Comcast intentionally provide sucky service so that you just give up because who wants to spend hours on the phone explaining your problem to people who are intentionally making it harder for you?

It looks like they delayed you just to be outside of the 14 day window. Anything outside that 14 day return policy can be replaced with a certified like new device. Is the home button that bad that you couldn't see living with it? Would a stiff home button eventually became loose also?

I exchanged one due to a very loose home button. It didn't register presses half the time and rattled bad. They are out there, the lemon s6s. They are far between but they do exist sadly

Yeah, pretty lame. I'm keeping the new gold one because the screen is much better. The home button doesn't rattle as much now. It's barely noticeable so I'm okay with it.

they always try and get you with that refurb stuff. i hate that!

Speaker broke, sent in for repair

Surprising experience, but my S3 Classic speaker broke. It sounded just like a broken stereo speaker. Incredibly raspy with notification sounds, and completely unintelligible for voice calls.
Called Samsung and provided SN and model number and purchase date (four months ago) and they sent me a UPS label to send in for repair.
I'm expecting a refurb rather than my own watch repaired and sent back. Which is fine.
Whole process was very smooth, good warranty experience.

Samsung had the watch a week and did nothing, when I called they said there was an issue with the SN they had to figure out.
Then after resolving the serial number confusion, they fixed it in one day.
Oh well...at least it's fixed. Hope to have it back in a few days.

Watch arrived July 5th, fixed, no issues. Very well packed.
I sent it on with a custom watch band and it came back with it.
So all good, happy with outcome.
