Q:I know that CM10.1 use the Phone UI by default but it's still possible to switch to the Tabled UI?

No,the 4.2.1 bootloader is backwards compatible but it's not recommended to use a 4.1 bootloader with a 4.2.1 rom.

It's not gone,just go in Settings --> About Tablet --> Press 7 times on Build Number...done
Q: I can't find the advanced power options anymore (reboot to recovery,bootloader,etc).
You can enable all those options in Settings --> Developer Option --> Advanced Reboot

It seem that Asus did some changes to the CFQ scheduler on the 4.2.1 kernel (don't ask me about tech details) and improved it a bit.But no matter wich scheduler is set by default you are still free to choose the one that suite you best and set it on boot.

Any recommendations on disabling HW overlays, or forcing GPU rendering?

Nevermind on the HW overlays. I've been playing with the I/O settings, and Quadrant seems to like ROW more than CFQ for some reason. I'll run it in the meantime.
Coming from a clean install, you can absolutely notice the kernel performance improvements. I'm a happy camper!

I can find the SPYD/3.1 in the list, but can't se the option to enable the data compression proxy. Maybe I have to change the language to English to find it, lol.
Nevertheless the latest nightly is a huge improvement over the previous ones! Good job!
One question though, is it possible to disable fsync in the "stock" CM10.1 kernel? At least for me the disabled fsync on stock ROMs made the tf700 fly.

I'd add to that Data2SD. Both make my TF700 much snappier and benchmarks are consistently improved as well.

You can't disable Fsync with the default CM10.1 kernel,you will need a custom kernel .As for the Data2SD I'm sure that someone will implement it soon and I will update the OP with all the infos and links.

Guys, is the kernel in this ROM the same as in CROMi-Xenogenesis 4.3 Final][Stock - 10.6.1.14.4 - DEODEX]? I have had that ROM on my device since Tuesday and I'm wondering whether I should try this one as well...

I was looking through source today, CFQ didn't seem to change, but there were many changes on the board-cardhu*.c files, including memory locations, etc. This is what is probably allowing CFQ to work more efficiently than in previous iterations of the kernel.

So to install this from CROMI I need to do a full wipe then put this and the correct GAPS then install via TWRP?

You can use twrp or cwm. Yes, you need to wipe, ROM and gapps.
If you use cwm, read the warnings about formatting

In the thread it mentions the bootloader needs to be:
10.6.1.14.1
is this correct? The current bootloader I have is the latest being 10.6.1.14.4 will I still need to change it?

You will lose your data when you unlock your bootloader. If you have already done this, then you can safely flash Franco kernel without wiping your data.

And yes, it is very compatible with ART. Been running it since day 1, very smooth performance by Franco.

You can look in the Franco's FAQ thread as well as the Franco kernel thread for all the answers that you have asked. I am on the xda app so I can't get you the URL but it shouldn't be hard to find.

[Q] changing kernels?

I've looked into many threads, but have still not been able to find a definitive answer: when changing kernels (going for example from ElementalX to Franco or Purify) should I do a dirty re-flash of the rom and then flash the new kernel or will just a flash of the new kernel be enough?
I know it's been asked before, but I can't seem to find a clear answer.

So (just to make sure I have it correct) right now I am running Purity + Purify. If I want to switch to a Purity + Franco setup, I need to dirty flash Purity rom (in which case it brings the kernel back to the standard Purity kernel) and then Franco kernel after that, right?
Do I need to wipe cache or anything else?

You're right. To prevent any issue it's better to follow this rule regardless of the custom kernel. We need to dirty flash our current rom due to modifications done by the kernel on the ramdisk.
You never need to wipe before flashing a kernel.

I actually have an additional question: do we need the same process even if we're talking about the newer version of the same kernel? Like going from an older version of Franco's to the newest

If I'm on the stock ROM. I decide to flash elementalx. Then, want to switch to Franco or something, would I need to flash the stock img? Or can i just flash the stock kernel?

Wondering the same thing. If I am currently on stock rom with franco kernel, in order to switch over to elemental do I have to flash the stock rom zip from the thread here on XDA and then install the elemental kernel?

I know I had to do that when I flashed elemental. Otherwise some apps won't open. But now I want to find out was the the full correct way? Or was it the lazy way

Flash the stock boot.img and system.img and then flash the kernel you want to change to..
I have also tried just flashing the stock boot.img and then the custom kernel.. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. So I would reccomend flashing both! (boot and system)

also check to see if the original kernel left any init.d files, some kernels do. you would want to delete them, as those could, probably would, not play well with your next kernel.

yes. they arent located in either of those locations, so my advice applies, and is the only reason why i posted this. they are located in /etc/init.d/. you either dont have that location (best option), have it but an empty folder, or have an init.d folder with files in it. if there are files there, delete them.

Flashing a system.img will overwrite init.d scripts. /etc is a symbolic link to /system/etc so when you replace /system/etc with whatever is in a ROM.zip or a system.img, these changes apply to /etc too.
If you look in any ROM.zip or kernel.zip, they all flash their scripts to /system/etc/init.d

+ some kernels have some other advantages.

I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S 5 SM-G900T. I'm currently running XtreStolite ROM but currently running through some issues like wallpaper picker keeps force closing when I choose one, Setup for Fingerprint says to restart, I do, and still nothing, and tried downloading MyFiles but when ever I do an action, it force closes.

I know but I've downloaded a ROM before that had its own custom kernel. Had fun overclocking but spent more time underclocking. Is there somewhere where I can download certain kernels?

Yes,you can flash Kernels.
Why are custom kernels android useful?
Ans:Kernels are the brain of your Android device and communicate between software and hardware. Therefore, they are responsible for managing things like CPU / GPU clocking speed, screen sensitivity / colors or voltage. By using a custom kernel you can not only improve battery life, but also increase system performance.
Many custom ROMs already come with their own kernels. This is done to implement software communication of the custom ROM with the hardware of the device and also to ensure a better performance. Nevertheless, you are often also able to flash custom kernels to custom ROMs. If you decided to stick to a rooted version of stock Android, flashing a new kernel can offer you additional performance with the convenience of a stock OS.
Always make sure to check compatibility of the kernel with your ROM and device, because flashing a wrong kernel can brick your phone!
You can use this apk called as Franco.kernel. The app is available in playstore.

That is stock kernel. Recommend using blu_spark (aka code_blue) over franco.kernel. I won't say FK is abandoned, and it is a good kernel, but it's just not updated for the N5 much anymore. Same thing happened to the N7 2013. When the devs move on, you should also.
What do you get with a custom kernel? They say battery, performance, etc. Most of it is negligible at best. You'll need to read the kernel OPs.

I use elementalx. It is pretty much stock, but you can mod things. The dev's app is great, too.

Chroma used Franco as the built-in kernel in the past but zephik keeps Google's kernel for a few months.

I suggest you to read (again & again) the kernel threads on XDA before flashing anything. Franco is a well known kernel but we have other awesome kernels.

so my nexus 5 is stuck on the bootloop or the chroma logo...
I flashed:
1) chroma_hammerhead-ota-2015-10-05.zip
2) tk_gapps-modular-nano-5.1.1-20150927-signed.zip
then the nexus 5 was able to boot fine, and I saw the phone already has SuperSU came with the Chroma ROM
3) I went ahead download the BusyBox, and installed
4) reboot to recovery , and flashed blu_spark_r30-6.0_hammerhead_40fbe53.zip
my phone is not stuck on the ChromaLogo .....
I have also tried,, on the step 3, I flashed without installing Busybox.. It's a no go either..
any help would be appreciated..

This kernel version is for Marshmallow.
