[Q] Upgrade from 4.0.4 to 4.4.2 odin. - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Can anyway tell me how to update from 4.0.4 to 4.4.2? I just bought a rooted s3 and I unrooted it back stock with odin back to stock 4.0.4. It has always had a custom 4.0 rom running on it so it has never run anything above 4.0. I would like put the stock 4.4.2 firmware on the phone and leave it stock. If I flash 4.4.2 in odin will it be a problem with the older bootloader? Thanks to Anyone.

I'm almost sure you have to update to each version before you can move on to 4.4.2. If your bootloader unlocked based on your Android version why would you want the locked bootloader?

really i just wanted the latest version of stock firmware on it. but I cant do any updates through Verizon. after returning to stock recovery and stock firmware. I thought it would update through software updater, but doesn't, So i was trying to do it manually through odin.

If you flash a JB ROM you won't have to flash your bootloader again, if that's what you're trying to say. But if you want stock JB, you have to unroot your device.

Updating a Rooted Verizon GS3

I just rooted and unlocked the bootloader on my old GS3 that I gave to a friend since I got the Note 3, and I just noticed for some stupid reason that it was only on 4.1.1, which I know isn't the latest firmware, so I was wondering if there was anyway to update while still rooted ? or can I use SuperSU Pro to unroot and then run the OTA and then re-root? If so, will this re-lock the bootloader?
Also what is the latest firmware available, OTA or Leaked ? I believe it was on 4.1.2 or something like that when I originally gave it to her. Is there a leaked version of 4,2 or 4,3 ?

No 4.2 or 4.3 yet. Easiest way is to odin the MF1 update and root, recovery and unlock with Casual.

soft bricked.. VZW i535 on stock 4.4.2

So I am on VZW stock 4.4.2 stock rom, rooted with towelroot, but was trying to get CWM.. Seen and downloaded Ez-recovery in the play store.. long story short now I can even boot to a normal screen, saying, "please bring to your verzion store".
So I have odin 3.09 and at the moment I am downloading stock rom of the vzw 4.4.2.. can odin load this back in?

Hello if you where on 4.4.2 witch has a baseband of NE1 then I'm correct you won't be able to do a custom rom for base bands or raids that where NC1 4.3 ML1 4.3 NE1 4.4.2
I think at this point the only thing you can do is odin back to stock 4.4.2
Thanks
EDIT:
Download ODIN
Make sure you have the Galaxy drivers
NE1 4.4.2 - http://rg.to/file/4d79597924f5ffd9a...ZW_I535VRUDNE1_I535VZWUDNE1_Original.zip.html
Flash this via odin and you will be back on 4.4.2 and you should be fine
ty.. that's what i did and worked! yeah I didn't want a custom rom, just wanted to go back to stock since is was a soft brick.... thank god this worked!!

Is there a stock verizon 4.4.2 rom for unlocked bootloaders?

Want to update a family members phone to 4.4.2. Has Verizon S3 with 4.3, baseband i535vrlf2, currently running cleanrom 8 core edition. Looking for a 4.4.2 stock based rom that will work with the unlocked bootloader, everything I can find requires it to be locked.

Doesn't exist because it will not boot without matching firmware and kernel. We're "limited" to custom 4.3 and older Touchwiz roms and AOSP.

Thanks. One question, If you upgrade and relock the bootloader, your only losing the option to install custom kernels unless you use a safestrap rom correct? Should still be able to root the phone with towel root or install a prerooted rom?

You lose access to everything in my previous post. Once upgraded to VRUDNE1 OTA, you cannot downgrade for any reason if you dislike how the phone performs. There is no downgrading to older roms or OTAs, you can only Safestrap flash another VRUDNE1 rom that's it. Doing anything else will brick the phone.
Yes, Towelroot will still root the phone regardless of the software OTA on our phone.

[Q] Firmware Questions

I have a Verizon galaxy s3 running custom firmware. I am running the latest liquidsmooth lollipop build. I have the latest twrp. I bought this phone used on eBay. My baseband is on ml1. My question is that is it safe to flash a 4.2.1 stock firmware image via odin? Thanks in advance

As long as your not on ML1 or NE1 basebands both which are locked bootloaders. By the sounds of it your bootloader is unlocked. There was only 4.1.2 for the android version, it then went to 4.3. If you want to keep the unlocked bootloader I wouldn't flash any stock firmware with the risk of locking it up

I am on baseband ML1. Is it possible if I would flash the 4.1.1 stock that bootloader would be unlocked. The bootloader got locked and couldn't be unlocked on the 4.3 update. Am I correct?

If you can post a screen shot of your about phone screen, your already unlocked if your running twrp. It's only available on unlocked bootloaders. If you flash newer firmware you would indeed lock the bootloader and once that happens your stuck with it

What is your ultimate goal, to simply be running "stock" (like) software ? If so, but you want to remain rooted and with an unlocked bootloader, use one of the rooted, "stock" ROMs from here. For example, AllianceROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1973982), MOAR (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2231050), CleanROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832070), etc.

Thanks for the help guys. I just wanted to know if i flashed 4.1.2 or 4.1.1 stock firmware images if it would still be unlockable since the bootloader got locked down when the 4.3 update rolled out.

Yes it would still be unlockable if you only went up to the 4.1.2 firmware. Anything newer would lock it back down

If your phone is rooted and/or has an unlocked bootloader, anything related to "flashing stock" should be avoided like the plague. Yes, on the S3 you can safely flash stock firmware with no fear, but far, far, far too many make the mistake of flashing an update the moment it's made available and quickly regret it.
So here's my question: say I wanted a stock look but instead of flashing official stock firmware I flashed any of the custom "stock" roms you have listed. That would be about as safe as flashing any custom rom? Is that correct?

I got a message while trying to upgrade my software. Samsung Galaxy SIII SCH-I1535. Firmware upgrade ecountered an issue. Please use Software Repair Assistant & try again. Tried ODIN and follow steps. It says to click on Samsung Recovery file. I don't have that. Any suggestions?
