I am using custom a ROM on my Xperia U.. Named SlimBeans based on CM10 with modified Nova Launcher... Problem I am facing is that I want a Google Search Bar witch expands on home screen and get me to my desired app. I installed Google search, Play Now Launcher than Google search Box but no help at all.
Play Now launcher didn't work at all. But Google search and Search Box widget take me to Google search application instead of showing a search text box...

google search is used for searching google man.
So I was day dreaming about some thing which even didn't exist in Android world
I was expecting a search bar like Facebook messenger's chat head.. Where there When ever I touch it a cursor start blinking on home screen... I type some word and drop down list flow on screen. With suggestions .. That is what I was expecting
Please tell me if there is not such thing available than I should delete this thread.

Apparently HTC in their infinite wisdom decided to remove the voice search icon.
Install shortcut, then run it and it will allow you to start the voice search app using whatever method you wish. Then pull the notification bar down and create your shortcut. Dragged mine down to the dock and all is right with the world again.
Anyone notice that the voice search sucks in comparison with CB? It worked much better on my old ATRIX 2.

What do you mean install shortcut? It's not on my launcher drawer, and when I go to Google Play and search for it the "Open" and "Uninstall" buttons are missing..
any ideas?
use a root explorer app and delete it from /system/app . install new version from play store
Awesome tip, I added it to my notification toggles, perfection

How did you do that? Do you have to be rooted?

Just dug around a little, found it.
Add to homescreen --> Shortcuts --> Activities --> Voice Search --> Recognition Activity
Surely you found it by now, so this is for posterity, for other people who stumble upon this page like I did.
Great tip thank you..

I went to Shortcuts, but the first one that pops up is Bookmarks. Is there no other simple way? I can't download and install it because it's already installed...
Alternate Solution
For those who can't make the above solution work, try this: (OK, I'm not permitted to include a link because I'm a "Noob") Go to AndroidCentral and search for "Missing the Voice Search button? Here's the fix!!". It will also refer you to an app on Google Play called "QuickShortcutMaker".
I love how everything on android is easy to accomplish, soit boggles me why google has decided to run its search engine in such cubersome manner... I press on quick search widget, no option to take me directly to default browser, instead I have to search in a simplified google search page where I can't even open multiple tabs, WTF ?!
Any way around this mess ?

Yes, custom ROMs. The Slim Bean ROM I'm using right now lets me open a new "google.ca" tab in my default browser (Dolphin) when I drag from my Home button.
I don't want to flash another ROM, any way to do that with just a root ?
Idk. I usually just click a link and it opens it in browser but otherwise idk.

hello
mm, I don't have the touchwiz app installed and I'm not talking about the google search widget.
I'm talking about the normal search option in the "apps" screen.
for example when I want to use an app that I don't have in my home screen I go to "Apps" then I use the search option writing the first 2 letters of the app and it filters out and shows only the apps with those 2 letter right?, well I don't have this search option any more.
any ideas?
cheers!

Ok it looks like you are new to the android world !
So first of all touchwiz is the stock rom that comes with all samsung devices.. And the touchwiz app-drawer is the default app drawer !!
Anyways .. In 4.2.2 the feature is not there but you can always search the name of the app from the Google search widget on your home-screen !!

Hello everyone! I was wondering if there is a xposed module or an app that you can search another app like in ios 7 where you drag down the homescreen and type which app/song/contact you are searching for. This would save a lot of time. Thanks! (Xperia P LT22i,rooted, unlocked bl)

The Google Search app that is installed with most Gapps packages will search your phone and the internet. Just launch the "Google" app in your app drawer and use the search box to find what you are looking for on your phone.
Hi everyone !
Got a general question about the "Google App" aka "Google Now App" (and searching "google" in google isn't very helpful )
My question is : Is there a way to see the so called Google App in the app switcher ? Cause for now I can't make a search or show a news, switch to another app or minimize the Google App, and come back to my page, and it is very annoying...
Do you mean app drawer?
