BT Audio not muted/paused on incoming call on 4.4.4 - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This has happened to me when streaming music to the cars head unit. Basically on an incoming call, the music keeps playing simultaneously with the ring tone and then if you answer the call, music is still going. Hitting pause on the app or even recent task killing it, doesn't stop the music. Only solution is to let call ring out, then stop music and ring the person back.
I am currently using Omni latest nightly but it is not a unique ROM issue as I have had it happen on the stock Nexus 5 ROM (rooted with just Gravity Box Xposed module). It is also not a unique app issue as both Spotify and Pocketcasts have done it. It didn't happen on pre 4.4.4 ROM's or other handsets so I'm thinking it might be a generic issue with this version of Android.
Curious to see if anyone else has had this problem.

I attend calls via my car's music system almost daily when I'm stranded in traffic. No issues here. The song pauses when an incoming call comes and resumes when I end the call.
This is certainly an issue at your end. Since you've already tried changing music players, I think it's time to switch to another rom/kernel and see if it works?
I'm on latest AICP with ElementalX and have no issues with BT.

Couldn't fail Spotify in my testing again, only Pocketcasts. Not sure if it came in an update or I enabled it by mistake but it had an option to keep playing music over notifications and system tones which seems to have been causing the conflict.

[Q] Ringtone's not playing right

I don't guess anyone has had this problem but me. I'm running Eaglesblood 2.3.7. I've checked the settings for sound and the preferences in google voice and the cyanogenmod settings and can't figure this out.
When my phone rings it never rings with my selected ringtone. It rings with a ringtone I used to use months ago. And when I miss a call, the phone plays an mp3 of a song I have that I have probably only listened to once. And it plays that song to completion unless I mute the volume, and steals the audio focus so if I'm playing some other video when it happens, I can't hear the audio until the song finishes playing.
I tried clearing data on the dialer app, which causes the app to flash and then play the missed call song. I delete the two offending songs and the phone seems to be trying to play them because now I have no ringtone at all. All I can do is use talking caller id from the app market.
Anyone ever heard of this?

System/Music volume is stuffed in ICS stock ROM

Hi all,
Recently updated to official ICS. I like to listen to music on my HTC, and I found a major glitch. Whenever you are playing music (with the stock player), and there is another system sound (ie SMS notification), the entire media volume of the phone dies.
For example, I am listening to music and I receive a SMS. I hear the SMS and the music stops playing. I check the music app and the slider is still moving but there is no sound. After that point there is NO media volume at all! I start a game. No sound. I start a video. No sound. Youtube. No sound. Only way to fix this is restart the phone.
If I'm listening to music and I wanna play a game. I start the game and the game has its own sound. The music stops playing and the game sounds are also now gone. Only way to get any sound back is to restart.
Basically whats happening is if there ANY other non-music sound, it ends up killing the phone's Media volume. Only way to fix is restart.
Anyone else have this problem?
Running stock ICS 4.0.3 Vodafone Australia ROM.
Sounds like a fluke - cause this doesn't really happen to anyone else. Since you're stock, the way to fix most issues is to wipe your data and start from scratch. Most people who have random issues like this do that and it clears up.
Not its not a fluke. I can reproduce it even after a factory reset. It only happens with stock player not another player I downloaded from Play.
Maybe its a problem with the Vodafone ROM.

If you can reproduce the issue with a factory reset then perhaps you could try flashing your RUU and see if the issue persists. I do know that what you're describing is NOT a wide spread problem, and that means it's either isolated to your device or to VODA's build...

I meant fluke as in only happening to you, not only happening once.
Try Grogg's advice. Hell, flash his rom, music player works great in it.
Similar issue here
I'd just like to say I have a similar issue with mine. If i am listening to music and receive an SMS or email notification then the music volume increases to match that of the notification. Pressing either volume up or down then changes it one step from the original volume.
I also have another issue with the default music player. If I am listening to music at work, press pause then remove the headphones (when leaving my desk for a short while) after plugging headphones back in when I press play the sound quality is often seriously distorted. Pressing pause then play again always seems to sort this out...
I've noticed 3 or 4 little bugs with the latest (UK) release on my phone, I keep expecting another update to sort them out but so far nothing...

[Q] Bluetooth Streaming Audio Issue

I've been having an issue with Bluetooth streaming audio on every original development rom I've flashed. I'm currently running Slim-4.2.2 build 5.
The problem is that when I'm listening to music through my bluetooth headphones (LG Tone HBS-700) and an incoming call comes through, the music I'm listening to through my headphones comes blaring out the phone's speaker instead of being paused. This happens only when the phone is in vibrate or silent mode. If I have the phone in ringer mode, then the music will pause and the actual ring tone will play out the phone's speaker as it should.
I use Poweramp for local music and Pandora and Spotify as well. For some reason the problem doesn't show itself when I'm listening to Poweramp; only when I'm listening to Pandora or Spotify. (I haven't tried any other apps).
It's only incoming calls too, notifications don't play out the phone's speaker while in silent/vibrate mode during music playback.
A temporary solution for me is to set my ringtone to "none", but then when I have my phone in ringer mode, I have to remember to manually set the ringtone to the one I want and vice versa. I could use something like tasker to handle that, but I'd prefer to fix the root problem if possible vs. covering it up with a hack.
Has anyone else encountered this and hopefully been able to fix it? I'd really like to leave my phone in vibrate mode at work without the possibility of my music blaring out the phone if I get a phone call.
Not a single person has encountered this issue?

Have you tried an app called Soundabout? It is not just a bluetooth issue even with wired headsets this happens also. You will have to get the paid version for Bluetooth settings.
Yeah, I tried out Soundabout with the pro license. I messed with every setting and I couldn't get it to fix the problem.
I never use wired headphones so I didn't know that was an issue too. I just tried out some wired headphones to see if it behaved the same way and there's actually zero issue with wired headphones in relation to an incoming call on my phone. In silent mode, the audio continues to play out the wired headphones and I see a phone call on my screen.
As it turns out, now setting my ringtone to "None" doesn't work as a temporary solution anymore. Media audio from Pandora and Spotify will reroute to the phone's speaker for an incoming call on silent or vibrate mode. I'm going to try out Slim's weekly build 5.5. If that doesn't work, I'm going to check out a custom kernel. If nothing, I may need to revert back to stock as this is a deal-breaker. I can't have my phone making unnecessary noise in a quiet area in the slim chance I get a phone call.
Any and all solutions are welcome if anyone has any ideas or troubleshooting methods they'd like to suggest. Thanks!
same here on stock
i am getting the same thing and running a stock Droid Razr android v. 4.1.2
very f'n annoying when i get calls at work and i got jams playing and all the sudden just blares out the phone speakers.

Has this been solved yet?
Having the same issue with LG Tone+ using PlayerPro with local music. I don't know if it makes a difference (I guess I could test it), but I use last.fm to scrobble all music live.

[Q] After bluetooth audio, other audio fails

Hi,
I'm on the final CM10.2.0 build (Dec 2 2013), MF1 firmware + ML1 modem, and I'm having a new audio problem that wasn't there on CM 10.1.2 before...
When I reboot the phone it pairs correctly with my car radio over Bluetooth, and Google Play Music plays my playlist just fine that way. Then when I leave the car, that becomes the only app that can do audio - Youtube, for example, is silent and in fact playback gets stuck 15 seconds into each video, then advances one frame every 20 seconds or so. Other apps like the alarm clock or phone ringer have no audio either. When I got a call, I had no call audio for the first 10 seconds, then suddenly it kicked in.
This persists until I reboot. Then all apps play audio correctly until the next time I get in the car and it plays over Bluetooth. Yes, I've checked my speaker volume levels
Also oddly, the first time post-reboot that I get in the car, it auto-plays like it used to. But subsequent times, I have to go to Google Play Music and hit Play manually.
Has anyone seen something like this? Searching hasn't turned up any similar problems.
Thanks!
Just to wrap up my own question in case others see this too -
The problem seems to be Google Play Music. After my OP, I flashed back to stock and back to CM 10.2.1, a newer build than I had before. With this clean state, I didn't do much except set up the car pairing, and within a few tries it was back to the problem. I started using Apollo and uninstalled GPM, and have been running for a few weeks without any problems.

Music autoplays after call

I have the AT&T version of the S2 and the Note 5. Both are paired with my Motorola Boom bluetooth headset. Whenever I place or take a call from the S2, the stupid Samsung music player starts up through the headset as soon as I hang up the call. Does this happen to anyone else and what can I do to stop it from happening?

You somehow enabled the Muzak setting, which provides elevator music between calls.
Kidding aside, sounds like a bug in a feature... IF you are using the music player and a call comes in, it will automatically pause during the call, and then automatically resume when the call finishes.
I'm guessing the music player was "active" -- i.e. you had used it, and it was an active app but in the background, paused from when you had last paused it. After a call, the watch probably blindly sends out the "done with call" even to all active apps, and the music app simply starts playing again.
As a workaround, try bringing up Recent Apps (like many others, I've assigned the double-press of the home key to this function to get to it easily), and kill off the music player when you're not using it.
It was suggested in another thread to close all apps regularly to improve battery life. I've taken to doing this, especially after some apps that seem to be poorly designed in terms of memory usage, etc., and have seen meaningful gains in battery life.
