As soon as I noticed the Thunderbolt Kickstand I was thinking polish time.. But didn't want to jump the gun.. Till I noticed the clear coat was practically falling off.. along with everyone else's. All you need is about 15 mins and the will to mess with your big dollar TB.
If your clear coat is falling off. Just take your nail or a pen cap and finish scratching the rest off. Try to avoid using metal unless you want to put some knarly scratches in it. If you do use metal. Be very light and go left to right and not up to down so your following the factory lines in it.
Once done grab the masking tape and tape under and all over to keep the pretty T bolt clean.
Get some mothers or what ever polish and go to town. Just use a little bit and you can use your finger and start buffing. By just the texture of your finger it will remove the factory lines.
Then wipe off and continue till its nice and pretty Haha..
Make sure you wipe everything off with Q Tips and all before opening your kickstand..
Once cleaned off. Pull the tap and admire your new TB mirror.. Very nice..
Hope this helps. Any questions, please ask...
Looks nice

It's always nice to know what the finished product will look like before deciding whether or not to try something like this, so thanks for being the guinea pig.
Yes, thanks! I will probably be doing this once mine starts peeling.

Something so simple, and most of us never even thought of doing this. Thanks for this, mine is peeling off and I was getting upset because i'm anal about things like that lol
Only downfall I'm seeing is, fingerprints and what not on the kickstand. But not any different then the glass screen.. Haha

I like it. I will definitely do this later.
I took some 1500gtit sandpaper to my kickstands and kept the brushed look. I like that the "with Google" is etched in there and remained.
sandpaper worked like a charm for me too. happy with the brushed look for now, may consider the polish.
It was only a matter of time.
Polished looks great, but it's sometimes a PITA to keep looking that good.
Nice work!

Kind of ironic, given how many people have GREAT ideas for software changes/upgrades, haha!
OP, thanks for the pics. Looks great!
Looks great! When mine peels bad enough I think I will polish and then re clear.
Toothpaste will work too
Most toothpastes will work for this sort of thing. In the Army, we used to take the lacquer layer off our various brass items this way. Great seeing a fix like this here. The new mirrored surface comes in handy.
Thanks!
looks really good, I don't get why so many people are having issues with the finish peeling off? Mine is perfect and i use the kickstand daily. But if mine does peel i might polish it.
how does it look with the finish peeled off w/o polishing it? i prefer the brushed metal look.
Mine was badly peeling off so i decided to do it also. Taking the coating took a lot longer than expecting using a plastic pen. I then found an aluminum pen to easily strip the rest off without scratching it. I sanded the scratches out, but didn't have any fine sandpaper to clean it all up. I'm kinda liking the slightly brushed/polished look though.
Without polish or coating
Polished
Will probably sand it down a bit more and polish it up more later on. More scratches are starting to appear, but im happy with how it looks.
doesn't look bad, always thought it'll look good. thanks!
Looks great! I'm going to use one of those green scrub pads tonight.

I received my Seidio Surface case on Wednesday. At first, I was really excited. The case has a nice finish and good build quality. However, yesterday I decided to take the case off to clean my phone and I saw the four corners of the phone very deeply scratched. The bezel also has some scratches.
Before someone says it's because of debris and dust that gets in the case, I am pretty sure that I cleaned the case very well and dusted if off with a can of compressed air. The scratches were definitely caused by the case.
I am deeply disappointed with Seidio and their product. This piece o junk that costs almost 40 bucks was meant to protect my device, yet it did the opposite.
EDITED: Here are the pictures:
THESE PICTURES ARE THUMBNAIL LINKS TO THE ACTUAL SIZE PICTURES. MAKE SURE YOU VIEW THIS THREAD USING A BROWSER, NOT THE XDA APP (AS IT WILL ONLY DISPLAY THE ENLARGED PIXELED THUMBNAIL)
i had mines for 2 months and no deep scratches only on the side bezel maybe 1 or 2, but that is due to me taking case on and off tryin to take out battery and messing around with it. The case looks good doesnt feel cheap or look cheap like other cases like tpu or wateva silicone cases. And i really dont care about scratches on side bezel or corner im more worry about me dropping my phone and screen getting cracked!!! i dropped my phone with the Seidio case on like 5 times and no damages at all.
sorry to hear that. I have experienced scratches by cases before, that's why I don't use hard cases anymore. THe only cases I would go for is silicone and TPU. Even with my Motrola xt720 TPU hard case, it still gave micro-scratches on the phone.
The whole point of getting a case for me was preventing scratches, since I hardly ever drop my phone. Seidio sucks.

Sure! and I bet you have a product to push, right? I have owned the sedio case for two weeks. I take it off and replace it with ease. It's not the best case for safety but it is definitely a quality product best for overall look of the device. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEM AT ALL.

What do you mean product to push? If you think I'm trying to lead people not buy Seidio, you are right. But as you mentioned, it appeared to be the best choice in the market at the moment. I'm just posting my experience as a user, if you wanna have a chance of getting your phone scratched, then go ahead and use a Seidio case. However, I feel at least obligated to share my experience and warn others in the G2x community about bad products that I have had experience with. Contrary to you who seems to be a selfish kid.

I will take a picture and post here, but first I need to get a camera. By Friday it should be posted. Now, if you doubt what I'm saying, just google "seidio scratch phone" without quotes. You will be surprised in knowing that I'm not the first one to experience this. Again, I may be the first one to actually post my experience with the G2x and the Seidio case. If I know something, why not share with others?

The inner edges of the cases are curved in too much. So over time, it will cause minute scratches.
Immediate fix would be to sand it down a little.
Here's a pic of one of the corners. That mark is exactly where the cases inner edge is. So no, the OP is not making this up.

Check back in about two weeks. Obviously if you just got it, you aren't going to see this problem yet.
I can confirm that the case has done the same thing on my phone, but not as badly as OP. Still, I'm really bothered by it. Went back to my 4 dollar TPU case and not too happy about it.

Thanks for the heads up, I removed my case to check for scratches, but there were none. I've had the case for about 2 weeks now. To the people who have scratches, do you use vibration? That may be the problem because I rarely use vibration and I have no scratches at all

Actually this is a good thread.
Why does not ONE single phone have a #@)*%@#ing shutter that closes over the lens? Like a regular friggin' camera. It seems so blindingly obvious. I've had to resort to using a loop made out of scotch tape to keep it from getting scratched or dirty in my pocket with all other stuff I throw in there.
Now sure maybe that'd add too much cost for phones. But what is even easier/cheaper? With less excuse?
Why do phone cases not simply have a little latched door that closes over it? Or a shutter that slides over the opening, to cover the lens and protect it? This is actually a much better question.. they have no excuse. I mean what is the purpose OF a "case" anyway? Protection.
The fact cases only have a dumb hole there and no protection is nuts. Even "good ones" don't have this. I haven't seen a single case with it... has anyone else?
Doors on the lens inevitably lead to scratches. Over time dust/dirt builds up between the lens and cover. Slide the door, scratch the lens. This is why I have an Otterbox Commuter case. The phone is already too slim to hold (for me), and the rear shell has tapered cavities for the speaker, flash, and lens. I put a thin strip of painter's tape on the back to cover the lens and flash. This is better than scotch tape since you can easily peel it off and reapply it several times, and you don't need a loop on the end which can get caught on things.

Like bob said the dirt scratches the lense and also the space constraints I would imagine. Looking at the camera there is physically no way to put a mechnical cover on it especially since it protrudes out. It just isn't possible.

They would have to make the bump way wider to house the cover when it retracts and it would look so ugly. Then they'd have to axe the little silver ring around it which would make it even uglier.
Hmm painter's tape..thank you bobj0e. Will need to get some.
Still I think cases should have a door or something. Sure the phone itself does not have room such a thing with today's tech. But cases should easily have room since they are adding thickness. Which means they are adding space between a door and the lens, there should be several mm between the two at least. Right? Doesn't it make sense some case should have such a thing, to protect the camera?
Hi
I have the Spigen armor case for a little over a week, which I love. But after just couple days (5-6), I noticed some bad discoloration on the edges of the case. It's not completely terrible, the color is actually not the worst it could be (considering), but still I would preffer for it to stay at the white color.
I did hear about people talking about discoloration, but I didn't think it will be after just couple days of usage. Since it is my first case like this, is this normal? And if it is, is there some way I can clean it up + prevent it from appearing so soon afterwards?
Just to mention it, the case was bought from their official amazon.co.uk site, so the product is 100% legit. Had the code inside which I checked and all.

Just sounds like your white case has just been stained by your skin oil to me. Maybe you have above average acidic skin oil or some other thing going on, maybe your hand was also a bit dirty when you touched it.
It is a white case after all, so I guess its naturaly going to get discolored.

Thanks for taking the time ranger.
It's deffinetly one of the possibilities, but still if that was the case I would notice it with other things I have, and that is not the case. Plus, bear in mind it happened literaly in less than a week, when I could notice the discoloration. If it was in months, or a year, that would be easier to understand for me.
So basicaly I'm just looking for others if had similar expierience.
I keep my hands clean at all time, almost paranoid about it, wash my hands many times during the day, but natural sweat could be a factor.
Anyway, whatever the reason, do you also had the similar expierience, and if so, what do you use to clean it (if it can be cleaned)?

Thanks guys for the suggestion, but to be honest I think it's too far to "protect the protective case". A bit too extreme for me
Is there any traditional way to clean it. Maybe there is some chemical cleaner, which reacts very well and washes of this discoloration?
not sure the plastic might have been stained or the coating that they use can be stained
try mr. clean magic eraser with a little dish washing soap and water, take the phone out first of course.:good:
@Up
Thank you galaxy808. Is this just your educated guess, or you actuall have a white spigen case, and tried that (and worked)?
The case is good feeling in hand on. But the discolouration make it terrible. The White look pretty good. The black is so glossy.
Well better to buy the Slim Armor instead of Slim Armor S-View who was waste of money.

The build quality is just too good. It is so fast, I can't even see any animations. I need lag in my browser, or it just feels fake. The battery life lasts way too long for me to be able to break in the charger that came with it. The back is so smooth, I think I'm going to drop it. I have a clear gel case on mine and imo it completes the phone. The metal finish is to slick...i'd drop it for sure. With the gel case its 100% easier to grip, its not slippery and doesnt add bulk to the phone. Also with it being clear you can still see the beautiful design of this beast. I cant say a darn thing bad about this phone

There's a few test videos on YouTube, drop tests from 4ft/7ft/10ft, one of the tests was between the M7 and M8 and the other was between the M8, the G S5 and the iPhone 5S, the M8 got the best results in both test, only finally cracking at the 10ft mark in the latter video, not cracking at all in the M7/M8 video. Also another video shows scratch tests with a key, butchers knife, pocket knife and a hammer. Though it was hard to see in the video, the guy recording said there was next-to-no, if not NO scratches on the device, even after hitting it pretty hard with a hammer, though he used the back of the hammer and finally cracked it.
I think it's safe to say this phone is near indestructible, not saying you shouldn't still baby it but you can feel better about an accident that may happen if you drop it or what not, not to mention the 6 month screen crack insurance from HTC Advantage

I had the clear case with the black perimeter which I purchased with the phone at Big Red's store. I'm not sure, but I think the way the case's rubber sides was such that while taking off the case to access the microsd card I may have bent the metal near the volume buttons. That troubled me and forced me to put that case away. Big Red, thankfully, replaced my handset about a week later (I bought mine at 1:15 p.m. on 3/25/14), and I put a crystal clear TPU case on it which lets the Arctic Silver finish shine through.
I'm actually going to get my second replacement today... First had a small nick in the upper left corner, now this one has a strange bump in the center below the bottom speaker, resulting in warped metal. It wasn't there when I got it, but after some use it showed up. I guess be careful about applying pressure to the bottom corners of the device?
I feel like I'm being nitpicky, but idk... These are pretty glaring IMO.
Hopefully thirds a charm.

I think diztronic makes the best slim and protective TPU cases. I recently got a translucent gray for my gray metal M8 and it's been great so far. Can't see all of the device's beauty, but it is see through.

I had a clear TPU but while minimal, it provided very little protection. I went back to the UAG. Great protection without a major additional bulk of the Otterbox defender.

Haha. When I saw the title I was like either this person is crazy or its defective. Only flaw on this phone is the camera in my opinion.

Why do people keep saying camera is bad?!! I took 2 photos, one with note3, and one with m8. U tell me which one looks better.....

And from the note 3.....
Hmmm...they both look fuzzy to me? Didn't look like that before I uploaded Them here.
Anyways, the point is, it's a good camera. It's one of my favorite features of this phone! I compared to note 3, and honestly unless your cropping them, they look about the same.
