I'm trying to connect my Gear 2 to my HTC One M8 running 5.0.1 and I'm having trouble installing the APKs. I managed to get passed the "Samsung gear stopped" error, but now I can't connect to the Gear. I found some installation instructions but it mentions installing the "GearManagerStub.apk" to SYSTEM/APP and I can't figure out how to do that.
Does anyone have solid installation steps I can follow? I'd appreciate it.
Update - I have the Samsung Gear app running, and the Gear 2 is paired with my phone via bluetooth, however when I select "connect", the application does nothing.

Looks like it will not work with M8 on lollipop or any non-Samsung with lollipop.

Actually I got it working a couple of days ago. So far, everything is working great.
Did this with unrooted HTC m9 and unrooted Gear 2 with latest FW.
Deleted all the files installed on phone from gear manager.
Download latest GM files (extract/ed from APK)
Install every apk except Host Manager and install Gear Manager App as last
Open GM and connect your Gear 2. As soon as it tries to install Host Manager hit home button/go to your file explorer App on your Phone and install Host Manager 2.2.14100299
Open GM again and cancel Host Manager installation.
Have a little patience and it should show you the option to accept the terms.
Set Notifications in GM App on your phone.
If you prefer Root for Gear then you can root your Gear without problems and you don't have to do this all over again.
Sideloading APK's working fine, had S Voice running but coulndn't connect to watch yet.
Changed Bootscreen, sounds and more without problem.

I seen on another forum you were going to put on google drive the apk you used could you do that for me or link me to where you found it, I have same phone and same stuff, thanks alot mate

I did the same with my One but cannot access the samsung market as it is not present in the gear manager plus cannot sync contacts and cannot turn on notifications. just incopming call notification and nothing else

Afaik the only option to use Galaxy Apps and get the link in GM is to change buildprops to GT-I9500 fe but i don't use that option and my M9 is the only phone i have atm which isn't rooted.
I have notifications fully working and contacts are listed on my watch.
Search XDA for some Apks made compatible for this watch like Gear Web., works great. Well, even Watch Styler is working flawless.

Tried crazy to get it working with my HTC One but it doesn't work. i changed my build.prop too but could not get the gear working with the mobile. I guess it has something to do with lollipop. However, i can use market on my samsung s5 active. This is bad publicity for samsung lollipop. I want to get rid of Samsung this is why i want my gear 2 to work with HTC so bad. Though i could get it working, but the galaxy market store is not accessible until or unless i downgrade it to kitkat. i have seen plenty of workarounds in Xda to make almost any android working with the gear. (means using each and everything the gear is mend to do with the samsung phone).
I might switch for moto 360 if this doesn't work

Search XDA for the latest Galaxy Apps apk (hint: Galaxy S6 topic, find latest GM aswell), download and install the apk. When u changed buildprops to fe: GT-I9500 with the other changes, Brand and MF it should allow you to use the store.

My conditions are pretty much exactly the same except I have a M8 and not a M9. Would this work for me? Thanks in advance.

GEAR 2 + CM 11 4.4.4 on Dev S5
Note: I have done this 4 times and this has worked 4 times
NO HOST MANAGER ERROR OR FORCE CLOSES
MY DEVICE;

CM11 4.4.4: Rom file that I used was cm-11-20140831-UNOFFICIAL-klte
Recovery: vle twrp v2.8.0.1

Note: This is the only method. I tried everything else. I also tried this on lollipop roms but none of them worked (also receiving text messages and dial pad doesn't work for me while in a call aka inputting voicemail password)
Ok so I tried to find a way to install my Gear 2 on my Aosp CM11 Rom
I couldn't find anything so after a couple hours of research I did it. These are the steps:
First make sure that your gear 2 software is update on the gear. Download Kies 3 if its not. Then after this You have
to Root your Gear 2
Use this link:

You just have to Flash the tar file to the gear, if you want to install themes and everything else then you will
have to install Tizen SDK but its not necessary to move forward
Next I followed this:

Where it says samsung Devices With custom Roms:
You Must change that as it says in that step: I used es file explorer and its text editor:
Leave build.prop open and go to the step that says GetFIt Apps Working (optional):
And change all of them as they did in this step : The only one I skipped was ro.product.model (which i did not find)
and I also added an " =SM-900S " to "ro.product.deviece"/
reboot the phone!!! or it wont work
I then went to this website:

the .apk file
and then I downloaded everything in the extracted folder:

Then I went back out:
and i downloaded the GearManagerStub.apk file which is located in the folder named gear manager stub;
so I Installed all the files first to the phone ( i installed the gear 2 app last): dont open anything till you install all the .apk files
your gear should be in reset mode (if not, just reset it), i Then opened the app and it installed updates (4 updates)/ PLEASE BE PATIENT/ a menu came up on both screens phone & the gear. (Pairing menu)
i then hit pair/ after the release notes came out on my phone I then hit accept twice on my phone and then hit next. The app connects then it force closes. I then re opened the app and it worked!!
Everything seems to be working !! The apps seems to work fine with out any issues or errors.

With all setting set to allow from unknown sources turned on, the only work-around to getting the apk on the phone was to uninstall Gear Manager, install the apk then reinstall Gear Manager. Now my issue is getting the wgt on the watch. I've tried wrapping it in an apk, and sideloading it using sdb. The sdb method returns unsigned certificate errors. Is there anyone in the community that has this working or has any suggestions on how to get it up and working? I'll add both files to this post. **Please note that the file named Gear_S2- SleepAsAndroid_Consumer.apk should be changed to extension .wgt I was unable to upload it with the wgt extension.**

I have installed filesmaster and yes tried to transfer the wgt file to watch, was successful although filesmaster will not allow you to install anything, just open files.

It will not work. Gear S2 uses Companion model. APK and WGT files are installed separetly. You can't install ...Consumer.apk on S2.
The problem is the the wgt is not signed , i tried to work on it on tizen sdk but i`m kind of noob

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't Gear S2 support .tpk files since it is a Tizen OS? Files master will not open installer or anything for not supported file.
EDIT: ok, I read about it and it is indeed .wgt

I think the problem is that your watch unique id is not included in the list of testing devices, so you cannot install it. During app development, devs have to manually enter the id for each device which they want to run the app on.

When I open the app, it only shows: "Starting tracking" with no options whatsoever so I am not sure what to do now.

I also got the app to install on the Gear S2 as well as the apps for the android device, but no luck making it do anything.
I got it to work. When installing the latest beta on the phone enabling smartwatch and smartwatch (heartsymbol) it worked. It did not monitor the heartrate during the full night, only a few hours.
I also believe the power on the phone should be >20% but it could be coincidentally failing below 20%

I just manage to install de wgt on my gear s2, I’m having issues now when installing the apk Gear_S2_SleepAsAndroid_phone.apk (2.66 Mb), As soon I install it, Android shows an error, and ask me to uninstall the application, also I slept last night with my gear it seems to connect with the app but when I check on shealth it just show the hours with out any variation in the graph I was expecting some variation on it, any ideas? (Sorry for my English)

I believe the .apk does not work. I think it should install it on the s2 from the phone but does not work because it is not modified. (As you can do on the .wgt). (I am no expert so these are all assumptions)
On S health I also see no graph, only in the sleep as andoid-app on my phone.

Just have a respond from urbandroid "Please note that there is no need to install the APK along this is only a container of the wgt file in case this would make it easier to install." So you just have to install Sleep as Android on your phone and the .wgt on the gear s2.
And for the other question I had the answer was "Regarding, at the moment S health doe snot support sleep phases but hopefully we will be adding this very soon."

Is it possible to make a apk to install the wgt file on my watch. I have tried it with Tizen IDE but it won't work by me

Hello everyone!
So recently I flashed a CM ROM on my note 3 and flashed the new GApps
Everything was working just fine, but PlayStore had an issue with the SD card, so every time you try to download an app that is over 10mb it will show you an error 963 and it won't be installed unless if you remove your SD card.
I tried and tried searching for a way to fix it on the internet but didn't find any, so i decided to fix it by myself.
So what I did was to flash another ROM which had a working PlayStore and take it and place it there, that did work but then I had another issue which was PlayStore stops whenever you want to search for something.
But I got it all fixed! here's how. THIS IS FOR LOLLIPOP ONLY!!

1- So first of all, download the file called (GooglePlayStore.apk)
2- Replace your PlayStore with the one you just downloaded, it should be inside privApps -> and then in a folder named Phonesky then reboot your device.
3- Clear cashe and open up your new PlayStore, if it works fine and you can search then leave it like so, if it works fine and you can download but it crashes when you search (like mine) then follow the other steps. ( 4, 5, 6)
4- Download this PlayStore ( com.android.vending_v6.1.12-80441200_Android-2.3.apk )
5- install it as an update, don't replace it.
5- go back to system then apps and uninstall updates ( it should go back to the older version, the one you downloaded)
6- open up PlayStore and enjoy it!
PS: this might work on other devices having this issue.

But You know TW is very heavy and battery eater rom like a monster.
So I was trying another lightweight roms like Resurrection Remix, Lineage OS etc.
But the Gear Manager app says met that “your phone's operating system has been changed in an unauthorized way…”
So i search and find this for fixing to work gear manager on other OS which is not TW.
First of all, I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards
Lets go:
After flashing a new rom to our device, gear manager says like that "your phone's operating system has been changed ..."
For Fixing This:
1- Install that 5 apps newest versions to your phone(normal way or Titanium backup)
Samsung Gear, Gear S Plugin, Samsung Accesory Service, SASytemProviders, Samsung Billing
2- Open your file Explorer which has root Access and find build.prob file in root\system directory. Backup it on your sdcard. Be careful while editing this file
3- Then open build.prob file and find all “samsung” words to “htc”
4- IMPORTANT NOTE: Dont change This section ro.telephony.ril_class:SamsungExynosRIL (just leave it original)
5- Save it and restart your Phone.
Thats all
Now open Gear manager app and connect to your watch.

Use this way can run samsung gear but can not search gear 2 does anuone have solution
I'm on AospExtended ROM and try this but nothing happened and Gear manager keep saying modified OS..
Hello again, i have a note 3 exynos version and Gear s2. Before i got the modified OS issue, then i edited the build.prob file and my problem solved.
Please read the instructions carrefully then edit the build.prob file. Most probably it will work.
And the last thing No need to say that "Your phone must be ROOTED"

In case anybody has the same problem, this thread solved all of my issues. I have a Nexus 5 with lineage OS, and I could not get google play store to install the app. It didn't show up in play store on my phone, and online it said the app wasn't available for my device.
Fortunately [B @j to the 4n[/B] has made resigned versions of all three necessary apps (gear plugin, samsung health, samsung accessories) - and the Samsung Gear S3 is working flawlessly again.
