[Q] Nand Write Fails on Samsung Note II - General Questions and Answers

Hi and thanks for your help,
I am a newbie to this rooting thing, have done a lot of research. I previously posted in another forum and they directed me here. I have read many posts but still the answer eludes me.
I am upgrading my phone which has allowed me to experiment with my former phone: Samsung Note 2, SCH-1605, Android V 4.4.2 (Verizon) and started playing with rooting. I have used Odin 3.07 to attempt to root the phone, but it fails each time at the NAND Write function. There are a lot of threads on this and one suggestion is to use a higher version of Odin. I see 3.09 is available but the button options are different. Specifically, in 3.07, the button PDF is supposed to be used. There is no such button in 3.09. Fortunately, it reboots fine so I am not even soft-bricked on this phone. But I WOULD like to experiment with it.
Is Odin specific to each phone? And, is there a solution for this problem? I have no KIES running or even installed.
Any counsel would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Pradhan

[Completed] SGH-i337m problems

So a few days ago i downloaded a rom for my Telus SGH-i337m which gave me apps and the features from the S5. I installed it and all that, but then it failed. So i tried to use my back up but it was corrupted as well. So I thought i can go online and find a stock image, i found many, but then I think i installed the image for a GT505 by accident. This gave me my software back but then i could't use my wifi or my data. So i found a proper SGH-i337m rom and installed it, my wifi came back but my data didnt. I thought it was because of the wrong modem, so i installed a few different modems and nothing worked. But today when i downloaded a different modem and installed it using odin mobile pro. It was installing and it rebooted, but then it got stuck there with the ODIN logo. I removed the battery and turned the phone on but not it says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue..... please connect to kies". I tried that but my phone doesnt connect to the computer. HELPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You were on the right track until the phone got stuck. No worries, we will have you sorted out and on happy path.
First off pull the battery then while pressing Volume Down +Home+Power. Keep on pressing the buttons until you see Downloading Screen. This is called the Download Mode on your phone.
Next, please download PC Version of the Odin making sure the version is 3.07 or higher. Remove Kies or Odin won't connect to the phone. Also download the correct STOCK firmware for your phone. You can flash it via Odin on PC. Here are a few threads that will help you in this direction.
I believe that's a AT&T variant of Galaxy S4. So this thread [INDEX] All things AT&T MK2, NB1, and NC1 (including ROMs) should help. That forum also covers Canadian Variants of S4 as well just so you are aware.
Lastly, please feel free to post in [GUIDE][INFO] The beginner's info thread (aka. the noob helper)
if you find yourself still stuck.
which section do i put the .md5 file under in ODIN? i tried in AP but it failed

[Completed] [Q] Biggest mess up with root ever! GT-P5100 now a GT-3100

Let me first explain the thought process that went on before this all happened:
I wanted to stream my Spotify from Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5100 to my smart TV via BubbleUPNP. But I couldn't do this for a number of reasons: my tablet wasn't a rooted device or running Android 4.1+ or had the Xposed framework. So I set to work trying to root my device and upgrade it to 4.1 in the process.
I used Odin to root my device and install the Xposed framework. This all went very smoothly and was impressed.
But the biggest error of all came when I tried to upgrade my Android version by Odin to about 4.1
+.
I managed to get what I thought was the correct ".tar" file. But part way through I was faced with an error message saying "firmware upgrade encountered an issue" so I tried using Samsungs own "Kies" to recover my device. But I soon found out this would be no help because "gt-p5100 does not support initializing." so this application was useless. I then done a bit more digging around on the internet and found out that I can simply restore my device with the correct file on Odin again.
I don't quite know exactly what happened next but I'm presuming I made a ridiculously stupid error and downloaded and loaded the wrong file onto my device. My device now thinks it's a 7" "GT-P3100."
With the tablet being completely useless because the touch screen no longer works because of the confusion between the models and I cannot find the correct files to load onto Odin for it to work either, mainly because I've given up on things to even search.
I am asking this because I've tried for hours with no luck and need help restoring my tablet back to a "GT-5100" so I can then root it on Odin and upgrade the OS to 4.1+.
Please also note I could not simply upgrade my OS by going into setting/about device/etc.
I can see how this stupidity can being funny to others but my simple accident has cost me dearly and I would appreciate some help from other.
Thanks,
Mike.
Hi,
Normally flashing firmware from another device that's not yours is a brick, especially with Samsung.... But hopefully because it's another tab 2 firmware, you can fix yours. But definitely exercise caution in the future.
The place most are getting Samsung firmware, especially older models is sammobile website.
Other than that, any links I found on XDA for it are dead.
You obviously know how to flash with Odin, so try sammobile and find your correct firmware.
If you have further issues, you should ask for help in your device section, here,
> Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 > Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
Good luck!
Okay I was worried it could be bricked, but if I managed to get an error message on an install to then be able to simply change the model with the wrong file, I hoped I could almost mess up an install to get back to that stage to then be able to completely re-install my original correct files.
Thank you I will try Sammobile. I think that might've even been where I got the wrong file from in the first place.
Thanks a lot for your reply it fills me with hope knowing there might be a way to rectify my mistake.

[Completed] Galaxy Note 3 Root - Odin stuck at Cache.img

Hi all,
I decided to root my Exynos International Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900) using Chainfire's CF-Auto-Root, using the packaged Odin. When flashing, the progress bar gets stuck a quarter of the way on "cache.img". I wait until the process indicates FAIL in Odin and reboot, only to get a BSOD ("Firmware upgrade encountered an issue").
I've seen many people complain about this in CF's thread. I've tried changing cables, ports, even computers, Nothing. I've rooted a couple phones before and this is the first time I'm stuck to the point I need to create a thread... My main goal now would be getting my phone working again as I haven't made a backup :/ A factory reset would be out of the question...
Some people said it might be related to USB debugging. To be honest, I forgot if I left it ticked or not (I sometimes use it), and since it wasn't indicated on the guide I assumed it would be fine. I can't access the phone so I can't change that.
Any ideas ? Feel free to ask about any details I might have left out.
Thanks!
Hi there,
I see that for the moment isn't a proper way to root your device but you can follow this threads for more info:

[Completed] Problem Flashing OS On Galaxy S4 I9500

Hello, I am new here, so if my post is wrong please forgive me.
Phone: Galaxy S4 GT-I9500\
Current OS: Jelly Bean 4.3
Cell Carrier: PURETALKUSA
Problem: Can't flash a new OS
How it happened: I accidentally deleted a core "system" (Google play store). It messed some things up and I factory reset it. It did not work, nothing changed. So I decided to just flash a new OS. Since I had the International version I could go straight to Lollipop 5.1.
After a couple of days of trying to get it to work, I could not get it. I saw Kitkat 4.4 and thought I would just try that, but still had no luck.
Methods I have tried: All of the ways I have tried to install it have been based on Odin. I have used 3.04, 3.09, 3.10.7 and maybe others.
I have used 2 different computers and multiple files for the OS(Both Lollipop and Kitkat). And even different cables. None work.
How I try and how far I go: After installing Odin and downloading the file. I turn my phone onto download (Hold power, home and volume down....etc). In Odin I get the blue light and hit start after the files are in place.
Then depending on what file I am using is the error I get, Something about PIT error (I think I would need to re-partition it, but not sure how), Or the most common is a "Complete (Write) Operation Fail".
I admit I am tired of trying things, I have no idea how to fix it and I would be so glad if someone could help me understand what to do.
Thanks in advance!

[Completed] Bootloop on SM G900T1 using CF auto

Hi,
I have rooted a few devices, however this is the first time I have encountered a bootloop error.
Specifically I used Odin and ran CF Auto Root (kltemetropcs smg900t1) from Chainfires DL site
chainfire 405 CF-Root
Device is a Galaxy S5 G900T1 (metro pcs) running Lollipop.
Oden successfully completed all threads. Didn't show any errors, however the phone never finished its boot cycle,
it stops at the carrier logo screen.
I noticed that odin deletes any previous files so I tried a second time using the same CFroot, still the same outcome.
I was thinking of doing a factory reset after reading some other forums, or reinstalling factory ROMs though this is getting to the limit on my knowledge.
I'm unsure of what I should try next, or even where to ask.
Anyone able to help or know where I can ask?

Hi 8thvision
Thanks for using XDA Assist and I can assure you that you came to the right place :good:
As you, I'm a happy owner of a S5 and will try to guide you through this. Please excuse me but, as you didn't commented the what you already reviewed, I may be repetitive here.
The first resource you should access is Chainfire's main thread regarding the S5 (link below). All experienced user reports are in there and they may be helpful for your problem.
[SM-G900*] CF-Auto-Root
In the case your doubts remain, I would ask you to access our experts at the below forum that should be able to tackle your problem:

Nice regards and good luck.
