[Q] Factory Reset rooted 4.4.2 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

My 3 year old S3 SCH-I535 is getting a bit slow and buggy. I used Odin to update to 4.4.2. I haven't taken any OTA Updates since rooting. I was thinking of doing a factory reset. I 'think' that I could do a factory reset to clean things up then re-root with Towelroot. I would do a backup with TB Pro first then do the factory rese.t. Towelroot. Re-Install SuperSU and other apps..
Was wondering if what I plan will work like I expect it to or am I missing something. If anyone has an opinion on this I would appreciate hearing from you. Even better, if someone has done this I would really like to hear how it went.

Factory Reset

So I did a factory reset on my friend's note 10.1 and was surprised that it stayed at android 4.1.2
Her note was lagging a bit and I thought that the cause was when I updated the tablet to 4.1.2 as soon as it was opened so we did a factory reset.
No lag anymore now but I was hoping to have it back in the very very beginning and have her use it as it is then update it after a few weeks.
Has anyone else tried this?
The new rom is now the only rom on the note 10.1... If you install a custom rom and do a factory reset it will still have the custom rom on it. To hold over 1Gb of rom in memory in case you want to go back is a waste of memory...
Factory reset cleans data only and all stuff you put dont do any downgrade on software.

Ah i see. It would be a waste of space to keep the old version so it was completely deleted when I upgraded her tablet. Makes sense now. I'll look at factory reset differently now.

[Help] KitKat OTA messed up Maxx

So I used the confirmed working KitKat OTA update on here for my Droid Maxx and it worked but it's running like crap now. This would be the original soak test OTA that was pulled and I'm assuming they pulled it because of this reason. Does anyone have the more stable release in an update.zip yet? Thanks for your help!
the sbf is available here http://sbf.droid-developers.org/
I appreciate that but this erases the previous files and I only wanted to overwrite the bad files, the update.zip would do as such, correct? I'd hate to lose everything on my phone.
i dont think the update.zip would work if you are already on kitkat. you can use the sbf file i posted with a program called house of moto to flash and not have to wipe data.
The second update is the same as the first. They pulled the first update because there was something wrong with flashing recovery on some phones. The actual KitKat build is exactly the same. I wouldn't waste your time trying to reinstall anything. If you're having problems, the best idea is to back everything up and do a factory data reset.
Oh really? I thought there was more to it than that. I'll give a factory reset a go. Thanks a lot!
Factory reset is for apps and data only it does nothing for system issues. I would let it settle in for a few days if it doesn't fix it fxz is your only choice

"Running like crap" could just be app issues from the upgrade. Again, with an Android point release upgrade, it's not a bad idea to try a factory reset if you are having problems after the update before trying something as radical as reflashing from fxz. It may end up fixing any issues.

[Q] Factory resetting my rooted phone

I rooted my Xperia L 2-3 months back. Recently the phone has been getting stuck at screen off very often. I have a hunch that a factory reset will solve the problem (as it has happened once already).
However, I'm worried that since it is rooted, a factory reset might cause problems. Is it safe to do a factory reset? Has anyone tried this? I don't want to backup any apps or anything, I'm fine with losing app data. I just want a fully functional phone.
Also, I'm still using Android 4.1. Can I update to 4.2 on a rooted phone?

T-Mobile Nougat Update Slow

Hey Ya'll,
Updated my phone this morning with the official T-Mobile Nougat update and man is my phone lagging! Anyone else having this problem?
-Travis
I didn't. What I did have was bootlooping that started about 48 hours after installation. Stock, not rooted and very minimal apps. I ran a factory reset and it has been much better.
My phone is bootlooping, too, after the update. My phone is also stock, not rooted. I'm afraid to do a factory reset, as I don't want to loose all of the photos of my new baby. I wish I hadn't delayed turning on my cloud back up.

( it was the same problem with my S5 from 5.0.1 to MM will never do same error save all yr data and do clean flash )
1- do just cache clean
2- you can flash the old MM tmb but dont flash csc flash HOME_csc
but wait for more suggestion but for me is that the only solution

same. s7 slow and laggy as hell crappy battery life. they did this with the s5 too. slowed it down with updates until youre forced for a new phone.
This last update definitely negatively impacted my battery life. Stock, no root, and I wiped cache. I'm not in the mood to do a factory reset. Weasles.

Question on factory resetting rooted device

Hello,
I have a rooted N8010 that's running stock. I'd like to factory reset this tablet because it's acting buggy with some lag and intermittent random reboots. I've owned it about 4 years and have never reset it.
My question is, since it's rooted, do I have to do anything other than booting into recovery and resetting? I'm asking in case I'm supposed to unroot or flash factory or something, even though it's still running stock.
Thanks for some advice! :good:
Factory reset .
Then root again if you actually need root .
Easy enough, thank you!
