Hello guys.
I want to recover a whatsapp picture I accidentally deleted a photo that is very useful. I have made alot of research on google to find out how to recover it. All I found was how to recover messages. Not pictures. So the question is can I recover it without root? I have tried alot of way to do it, some of them were false, outdated, not for free(too expensive), or just recovers the messages, no pictures. So if I can do it without root, please mention it, and if I can't do it without root then mention it too. Please mention some methods. Then I'll test out and see if it works.
By the way I am using a HTC One X International version (that means not AT&T version) running android 4.2.2, HTC Sense 5.0, bootloader locked, and as I said unrooted.
Please response ASAP. THX.

Maybe another solution could help ? This is for whole phone data lost.
This is a long shot but you can try plugging in your phone to your computer and use data recovery software like Recuva (freeware and effective)

I could not find any application that were able to do the task, I will continue searching and waiting until somebody, release the solution.
I am a newbie and I do not have yet the ability to do this.
Regards.
Does anybody has achived to unlock the nuvifone, or has found an application that can do it?.
Well after several months trying to find I solutions for unlocked my nuvifone, I decide to pay for get the unlock code.
I only have a question, I read on the pages that offer the unlock codes that if the phone is rooted, the code will not work, Does any one know if this is true?
It sounds weird to me, but better ask to make a mistake.
Best Regards.
hi i'm having some difficulty too. i downloaded the superone click app and went through the stages ie unmount the sd card etc, and at the end of installation a message came up that said i have been successfull in rooting my phone ( garmin a50 ). so the superuser icon appeared in the app draw and all looked good. i then downloaded and installed root uninstaller as well as set cpu. i managed to delete system apps and use the set cpu to adjust my speeds. but that's all, every other app that requires root access does not work and they all state that my device is not rooted. and busy box wont install. i also downloaded root checker and tested it and it also said my phone was not rooted.
z4root works just fine on the A50 (aka: Garminfone)
Root uninstaller will NOT remove most apps.
You can remove them manually.
Facebook, twitter, visual voice mail etc. can reside in a few different spots and will come back if not removed from all of them.
/Carrier/persist-app
/data/app
/system/app
and
/system/carrier/persist-app
You may find some of these files across different locations. facebook is in at least 2 or 3 of them.
those are the locations to manually go in and remove the bloatware from. Careful: it is immediate. only remove the bloatware, leave everything else or you can brick the phone and have to recover using the D-pad left to Wipe UserData trick to restore it.

Hi people, new to XDA, happy to be here.
I signed up so I could find out what the best/safest method is for rooting my SGS with my specific software version. By best, I mean most efficient, and by safest, I mean a method which retains all my data.
There are so many methods that I really don't know which one to choose. If you wish to simply link me to an existing thread, that's fine.
Attached is a screenshot of my phone's software specs.
Regards,
Nick
P.S When people talk about different methods for XXJVQ, XWJVP etc. are they referring to the Baseband version, or Kernel version/Build number, cause on my phone they're both different?
Welcome to XDA!
I do not own a SGS, however i can a\give you some advice. You can try going to the SGS forums to look for tools and guides. Keep in mind that Samsung devices use Odin to change Roms and stuff. Do you want to change your rom or just have root access? Either way you can retain your data by having backups.
You can backup your smses using apps such as sms backup form the market. contacts can be backed up with google.
Here's the SGS forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=665&order=desc
Also check if your version is i9000 or i9003 or any others. Just keep reading up and you'll get the idea
Good luck
Oh and they are refering to baseband. Kernel changes with the different roms.
Thanks for the prompt reply!
What do I do about backing up my apps?

try titanium backup you can restore/backup all of your apps/system apps
^ Cheers for this! I'm guessing Superoneclick is a program that simplifies the rooting process, but there's less learning involved?
I have Titanium Backup, however the issue is.... it looks as though the phone already has to be rooted for TB to work, but rooting the phone incorrectly could cause data loss if not backed up. Isn't this a catch 22? I could have it wrong though.

Yes, it simplifies the rooting process. Then again, why not try a custom rom by flashing through odin? Yes, theres a risk of losing your data. Theres a low chance though. good luck
I may as well update you guys.
Well, this is a little more technical than what I first thought, so I decided to do something simple to begin with - I used Odin to flash Gingerbread 2.3.4 into my phone. (I'm guessing you need to root your phone to flash a custom ROM, but not to flash the next version of the default Android OS like I just did, but correct me if I'm wrong here)
Anyway, the results are - I still have my contacts (cause they're on my sim) and media files, but my texts and free apps are gone. Why? Because I wrongly assumed that it would be the same as when I initially upgraded to Gingerbread through Kies (the official way). That is, all data is retained. The thing is, surely anything you download from the Market would be kept in your Google account, but obviously not.
Anyway, now that I have a feel for how Odin works, I'll go ahead do the root, followed by a custom ROM. I won't be using Superoneclick though, I like doing things the complicated way.
(to be honest I am a little pissed that my apps are gone, should've used MyBackupPro, a backup app that doesn't require root, but as always, I stumble upon these when it's too late)
okay then i just suggested you superoneclick because it was the safest and most convinient root method i ve ever used good luck rooting
Yay I'm rooted! Fun times! Didn't brick my phone or anything. Now begins the long journey of customising my phone as to how I want it. I guess a good place to start is to install MIUI.

In response to my question...
"When people talk about different methods for XXJVQ, XWJVP etc. are they referring to the Baseband version, or Kernel version/Build number, cause on my phone they're both different?"
a guy on another forum said...
"They are talking about the Build Number and in your case its JVP. Baseband is your modem which basically is your service, battery life."
This conflicts with what you said about it. Can you clarify this for me?
Cheers
Hello,
I'm considering rooting my international One S for a couple of things. Mainly, it's to overclock the CPU but I also want to try and fix an annoying problem during booting with the phone. The problem is that my phone is locked to Vodafone via a contract, thus the Vodafone icon appears and no startup sound is heard like I was used to with my Desire S.
I'm aware that rooting/overclocking can be dangerous but as long as I follow the rules carefully, I should be fine. I'm not a noob with technology but rather a noob in terms of rooting Android.
That brings me to this thread. I just wanted to ask a few questions before I tried it as it is still under contract until 2014. I hope I don't confuse anyone but here they are:
If I decide to root, will I lose any data? (contacts, music, videos, photos, apps, etc.)
Can rooting be 'undone'?
If I root, will my phone still have HTC Sense and Android 4.0 as before?
Can I still receive OEM updates with a rooted phone?
I don't want to modify anything other than the core frequency of the MSM8260A processor so I'm hoping things like CyanogenMod aren't required.
Thanks guys,
Iggy.

1. No you not lose what is on your SDCard, but when you unlock the bootloader, it will wipe your device/settings.
2. Yes.
3. Yes, unless you install a custom ROM to remove them.
4. No. You will need to unroot and relock the bootloader or update through a custom rom.
If I decide to root, will I lose any data? (contacts, music, videos, photos, apps, etc.)
No, Rooting wont delete data, But Unlocking bootloader will.
Can rooting be 'undone'?
Yes, Just use the cleanup option in SU app, Or run RUU
If I root, will my phone still have HTC Sense and Android 4.0 as before?
Yes, You will only lose these if you flash a non HTC ROM, Like AOSP, AOKP, CM9, MIUI ect
Can I still receive OEM updates with a rooted phone?
No, you will need stock recovery and maybe relocked bootloader to receive it
EDIT: Damn WCCobra ! you're just too fast

Haha, your answers are a little more detailed
Thanks guys for answering my questions.
So in regards to question 3, I don't have to install a custom ROM to root my phone? I'm trying to get my head around all of the keywords.
And in reply to question 4; I'll have to undo the rooting and relock the bootloader again to receive updates from either HTC or Vodafone?
To root my One S, I was thinking of using this method if that brings up anything else that I should know before continuing.

No you dont have to flash a custom ROM for root, Just unlock bootloader and flash the superboot image in fastboot.
And yes, You will need to flash the stock recovery (if you replace it) to get OTA updates
Okay, I appreciate the help, thanks.
Is there anything else that I should know?
nope, its fairly simple, just be sure to read all of the instructions, dont skip any steps.
if you have a question.........ask !
Okay.
Thanks to you and WCCobra for replying quickly.
If you are rooting to OC only--I am OC'd and don't notice any perceptible speed difference.
However, once rooted, you may get the flash bug and not turn back--
OC'n really isn't going to do much aside from boost your benchmarks, drain your battery more, and add a slight boost to some games. Not really worth it imo.
Dude trust me u want to flash a custom Rom I was a bit weary about it at the start I went from a Nokia 5530 to this I didn't want to mess it up but rooting is the best thing I'm using leedroid and love it u will make mistakes I did too but u got fantastic developers and people on here to help u out just download ur ruu and if anything goes wrong flash it and ur good always make nandroid back ups at the end of the day ur call but ur missing out

I'm merely wanting to root it to prove points to some One X and Galaxy S III holders. 'Overclocking' the CPU to 1.70GHz will hopefully prove that Tegra 3 is useless unless you are gaming. It isn't really an overclock considering the CPU specifications over at Qualcomm provide this as its highest core frequency. Overclocking would be going beyond this - i.e. 1.80GHz.
Hi guys,
I want to root my phone (xperia x performance with android 7.0)
After looking around i think i found a good program for this (Kingoroot) but i cant find any info on whether this will work with my phone and android version, i know there is no guarantee if it will work so this might be a stupid question haha.
I have never rooted a phone before and i don't want to destroy it or anything like that.
Also... If i copy all folders en files from the phone onto my pc i should have a good backup in case the rooting fails right?
If you need any more info or anything just let me know.
Anyway if you guys can help me out here or have any advice i would be very thankful.
Greetings, Tom

Copying the folder to your PC would save your data and the things you've installed, but it wouldn't save anything that was already there, in other words, it won't back up the vital system software that you're hoping it will. Backing up the important software can only be done AFTER you are rooted, not before.

Hi All.
I've got a OP 7 Pro which for the most part, am loving it, except the camera (Messing with GCam ports atm).
I usually root my handsets for the usual de-bloat / custom rom reasons. The last OnePlus I had, I rooted and installed TWRP. Didn't have much success with custom roms so ended up running pretty much stock (but could no longer update OTA for some reason). Since OP don't put loads of bloatware on, I din't mind so much, although I do like to mess around. I really want to be able to do full nand backup which requires unlocked bootloader = all data gone. I can handle reinstalling apps etc but loosing Google Authenticator is a pain in he ass. Do you guys think it is worth rooting at all? Is there a full backup technique that doesn't rquire unlocking bootloader / loosing current data?
I'm not particualrtly hopeful but any suggestions would be appreciaed.
Thanks.

Root is a good way to start the new year on XDA! ??
Love root!!!
Short answer, yes
I have lived fine without rooting for years.
Have not bricked my device once since I stopped rooting, but why ask here ? People come here just to root devices, try ROMs, Kernels, Mods ....... This place is biased and they will tell you rooting in great everytime

I read the thread you linked to. Nowhere do I see it discussing:
What all will be LOST by rooting besides Netflix 720P. (ie google pay etc and yes I know magisk has a "hide" feature but it fails on several common apps)
How the root can be accomplished without losing data or with a method to restore data lost from bootloader unlock.
Both questions were asked by the op in the original post.
Would like to know this too. I haven't rooted a device for many years, because I need the use of banking apps and Google Pay is my main (sometimes only) method of payment.
How reliable is custom kernels from hiding root?

I have my OnePlus 7 Pro rooted just following the guides on here and my phone still has functioning Google Pay and full quality Netflix.
Pokemon Go was trickier to get it to not recognize the root, I had to setup Magisk Manager a specific way besides just hiding root from the app but other than that everything works great.

Whoops. Didn't realize this was such a big problem. I assumed it was in full quality as I only tested it, but don't regularly use Netflix on my phone. After digging into the app it says I have Widevine L3 and can use only SD with no HDR.
