Multiuser app - Sony Xperia L

Is their any app so that i can get multiuser, just like on kikat tabs and later introduced in Android l for phones

I have recently activated multiuser for this device using CM 11 (Fxp 339). Just edited build.prop, added the key fw.max_users=4 and reboot. I do not know whether this works on stock or not, though.

It basically adds a configuration menu point for users, in which you have to create a new user (I created a restricted profile for my kids and activated some games for them; you have to start second account and setup language, etc.). Your main account must be password protected (or pattern protected). For changing between users I have to long press power button (on right side) to choose user from power menu (I have another device, a tate tablet, and in that I can also change user from quick settings pannel and directly from lock screen, but that options do not seem to work in this device, probably some extra edition is needed in build.prop).

Thanks.... Is app data shares between users???

User 0 (main) app data is under /data/data and user 10 (second) app data is under /data/user/10
Sdcard userspace (internal and external) is accessible from both users. It should not (in my other device each user has his space). I think this is related to the way XL internal Sdcard is partitioned. Fortunately you can disallow most apps for second user, and for those not disallowable you can define them as protected apps from inside user account and set a password for them.

Change Shoulder Buttons

SOURCE CODE ATTACHED
This is the official thread for the "Change Shoulder Buttons" app.
Compatibility:
At this point it looks like the app fully works for some devices, partially works for others, and not at all for some. Different ROMS may also affect functionality.
I am currently working on a "configuration" option which will allow users to calibrate the app for their specific device.
Update
This app has been updated.
No more restart required.
2.3
1. App is now free!
This app is now free!
Link:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.hatcyl.android.Change_Shoulder_Buttons
Description:
This app will allow you to use the shoulder buttons (L and R) of the Xperia Play for different functions.
You can use them to:
None: Stops the service. Shoulder buttons will stay at default.
Media: L will be previous and R will be next for media.
Camera: R will be focus and take picture.
Volume: L will be volume up and R will be volume down.
Up/Down: L will be up and R will be down.
Navigate: L will be browser back and R will be browser forward.
Advanced:
Tasker Support! (Kinda)
To change button modes do the following:
Action -> Misc -> Action Intent
Action: "com.hatcyl.android.Change_Shoulder_Buttons.ACTION_CHANGE_MODE"
Extra: "Mode:XXXXX"
See screenshot, no quotes, case sensitive.
Note: The game function of the buttons never get disabled. This app just listens for those buttons and then executes a command.
Coming Soon:
1. Custom Mode
2. Support for more Xperia Play devices / ROMS.
3. Real Tasker Support Way Later
4. Some automation maybe
Please post all questions, comments, bugs, and requests in this thread.
Thank You!
How about assigning the keys for volume control? In book reading Apps, L and R are much more convenient than the volume buttons when I have to flip the page.
A widget for quick mode switching could be nice as well.
Sure I can add that. But remember, a restart is still required.
Widget, probably not ... or maybe later ... im not so good with them.

You mean because you press L and R right?
Once I figure out how to change the buttons without a restart then we could use something like Tasker to change them based on different conditions. Camera if CAMERA is open, Music only if music app is opened, Game otherwise. Or maybe just manually change them faster.

Yeah it's when I press the L and R.
Oh ok...I'm not too familiar with changing stuff on my Play yet so I'm still learning as I go but great app nonetheless.

For every app I sell (this and other apps) I will donate 50% of the PROFITS to other XDA members who have been useful to me.

*Note: Yes there is a free app (which may not be working right now?) and yes, we all know how to do this mod (Simple file change) and yes, I made this app in a few hours and yes, it can use some more work but, this is like a fund raiser for XDA members. Please don't ask "Why is this not free?"

This seems like a paid version for an app that is already free.
https://market.android.com/details?id=seb.button.changer
Same functions, same results.
Yep, there's already a free app by an XDA member.
any way to achive this without restart? Would it work if you assign each button to a separate app (similary to assigning to camera currently I assume and probably restart first time only). The app you assign simply check what is required in an extra config file which can be changed on the fly without need to restart. Is this possible at all or is there a particular limitation how android works with those buttons? Thanks in advance

Yup, I actually posted that in the OP.
It hasn't been working for some people including me, maybe different models are different.
Anyways, if this app sells at all that developer will be first in the donate list along with the guy who found a way to use the official PSX emulator with custom images.

This is coming soon, it was in the market description but I posted it in the OP.
About your idea, it wouldn't work for two reasons.
1. You can't assign a button to an app (that I know of)
2. You wouldn't want to open an app every time you hit a button (especially when playing a game) it would be too slow.
I am exploring two ideas to get this working.
1. Find what causes those files to be loaded. Find away to restart that and force it to load the files again.
2. A much harder way, but this one will work for sure (I've got a proof of concept but no time yet.)
Thank you for explaining. I look forward to the no reboot version. Page up and down option would be great. Many thanks in advance

Can you add functionality to the default web browser? Like make L be the back button and R be the Forward button?
I really liked that function on my PSP browser (years ago when I used it every so often).
Also, add the functionality to the default Launcher? L for next left screen, R for next right screen. I'm not sure if either of these is even possible, but just throwing some ideas at you!
I'd be down to purchase it if you added either one. Thanks!

Sorry guys, not happening anytime soon, I still havent been able to change buttons without a restart yet!

I'd settle for the web browser L and R function
I will settle for pgdown pgup or even dpadup and down for shoulder buttons as long as they don't overwrite their function implemented already in games, emulators and camera mod apps. There is another post regarding shoulder buttons for ereaders - i'm away from my pc so cannot link - but it recommends another app there too.

Sorry, the files are different in 2.3.2 vs 2.3.3.
I will disable the app for now. I deserve that 1 star rating for that.
Anyways, download the attached file, extract the file inside and copy it (using any file manager, I use EStrong) to /system/usr/keylayout override any existing file.
Reboot afterwards, this should fix your issue.
Again sorry, I'm bringing the app down for now. I'll almost done with a big update that will not require restarts anyways.
It's alright dude! I fixed it myself, just restored from my backup. Thought you outa know though! Look forward to the no reboot version!!
(p.s. Yours is the only button change app that actually worked...apart from the obvious issue ...so thanks!!)
For anyone who was waiting. App has been updated.
No restart required anymore.
More modes coming soon.
... ...
This app pretty much uses the same approach I am going to use to translate buttons presses into touchscreen presses.

I would like to see actions with just a press of the s-pen button. For example, I would like to be able to change pen colors while writing by simply pressing the s-pen button rather than having to open the pen menu.

On my Note 10.1 (JB 4.1.1, German stock rom, rooted), there is a strange bug which I could track down to SPen Control after three factory resets.
I noticed suddenly, that it was no longer possible to install .apk from outside the Play Store. The effect is/was, that when trying to install an apk from system level, the message about the already existing apk pops up (if existing) and afterwards the window showing the permission requests of the app.
There, as long as SPen Control is active, the "install" button does not accept input. The "cancel" button instead works as well as the arrows inside that window to open/close detailed views of the requested permissions.
As soon as SPen Control is terminated (stop service and exit), the button works again.
So, this is a workaround (before manually installing an app, exit SPen Control), but nevertheless, that should be fixed.

_If_ this is implemented, please make it optional. I have a second external pen (with clip and eraser) which I use and the internal one remains in place.
That's why I do not use the "power saver" feature to enable the digitizer only in case of a removed pen.

I'm investigating it and if possible I will add option for it. This only make sense if I can start application with this event. If I need to run service for it to work then it does not have any meaning, because application is "sleeping" when there are now events. Or in developers terms, thread is in "waiting" state and it does not consume cpu time.
I developed other application Gesture Control for touch gestures and despite there are more touch events that SPen events, applicatio never appears in battery stats on my devices. I don't think you will notice any battery decrease with SPen Control too.
ah sorry my fault. wrong Word!
i dont really care about the Service it's more the app in the Status bar thats annoying me!
And the Note 10.1 does Support app Start when you unplug the Pen. altough you cant choose your own app.
(But somehow its broken for me now.... maybe because i flashed another Kernel or other stuff.)
Great app! +1
I bought the application and works really well but it would be very useful (and easier) to create custom gesture by drawing them, like G for google or F for facebook for example.
Just tried this with Paranoid Android and works. Sweet now you can have SPen and not be on stock based roms. Awesome!!!

NATIVE SIP is built into STOCK ROM!!! Can someone mod framework to make functional?

NATIVE SIP functionality is built into the stock ROM, Here is how I found it...
First, you'll need to download Launcher Pro Plus (go to 4 Shared and find the app). Once downloaded, longpress on your homescreen and chose "Shortcuts", then "Activities", then "Phone', then scroll down to the "Sip Settings" listing (which accesses com.android.phone.sip.SipSettings). Click on it and it will make a shortcut on your homescreen. You have found the SIP Menu built into the framework of your stock ROM! Below the Sip Settings option are two others under the listing "Phone", which access com.android.phone.sip.SipEditor, and com.android.phone.SipCallOptionHandler. Hope this helps everyone out. I poured through line after line of code only to realize the answer was under my nose the whole time!
{{{NOTE: The two options in red do not open up to any menus, but the first one in green is a GO}}} FYI, I don't even think you need to be rooted to do this.
Also, there are settings to mess around with the SIM lock and SIM PIN, carrier settings, and other functions and menus that I always see in the system apps but can never seem to access. A lot of these shortcuts open up to user interface menus. Awesome!
And props to Arrrghhh, you indeed were correct in assuming that it was the carrier that probably limits access to SIP options. However, it seems that it is not actually removed from the build, only the option is removed from the Call Settings Menu, and the settings are somehow disabled from sticking, unfortunately. Check it, once you access the SIP Menu, press the scroll back button in the very top left-hand corner of the page. It'll drop you back off at call settings. Is there a way to possibly edit the actual Phone.apk or Settings.apk, that one may replace the SIP option back in the menu??? Hit me up.
Nice to know its a bit ugly to be forced to install an additional launcher just for the activits, but maybe after setup it could be purged.
also nice now being able to disabl sim-pin (i searched for it in the native menu but did not find anything)
Only question I have so far:
how do one make an actual SIP/VoiP call with native phone app?

Nice you found it!
In order to modify this stuff (which is do-able, but can cause bootloops if not done correctly) you will probably need to de-compile the APK.
Otherwise, if you had the source - you could just modify the overlay. But I would think it's still possible - or even some other way to launch this app without having to install a 3rd party launcher.
You can use activity manager. eg.
Code:
am start com.android.phone/.sip.SipSettings
in adb or terminal emulator.

So, I have downloaded ROMzilla from XDA member digitalhigh, and am going to decompile some stuff and see if I can throw it back together and have it work. As it turns out, everytime I enter my SIP credentials and exit the SIP menu, the info I entered is automatically cleared. So there is some code that needs to be changed, if not within the Phone.apk then within the android framework. I am going to work on my PC with the stock ROMs that ShabbyPenguin posted and test it in Eclipse first. Let me know if there is any particular approach I should take. Thanks.

6. Once you have completed it for all 3 items above, exit SQlite
7. Go to Settings > Notification Panel > and press Reset
8. Reboot
I got the idea/steps from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2794970

It worked. Thanks.
Brightness Values
What values do you plug in for the brightness quicktile? I want to make sure I can toggle between Auto, 25% and so on and so forth.

Also the semicolon needs to be added as follows, WiFiHotspot; (probably obvious but took me 3 tries to figure this out)

Anyway to get a flashlight toggle in there? I believe I have seen other ROMs with it.
You can also get a quick tile for "reading mode" by using "Ebook;". Obviously, remove the quotations.

Looks like brightness doesn't work for our phones :/
Only ones that exist but have been turned off can be re-added and brightness isn't one.

Wait a minute... Is "MobileHotspot" different from "WiFiHotspot"?
For example when Wi-Fi Hotspot quick-tile is enabled, hotspot does work correctly, but you are taken to a settings screen that shows:
Mobile Broadband Connect (USB) & Bluetooth tethering.
Does MobileHotspot quick tile offer different functionality?

It's supposed to be WiFiHotspot;
Thank you very much for this tips! I run out of Thanks today will add later.
By the way, is there another way to add extra quick-setting tiles by installing an APK file?
It seems a lot easier for me.
Does anyone know of any other tiles that can be added?

Haven't seen a straight up flashable zip or anything for flashlight, but a rom called WizzleWom was just released and it has flashlight along with a ton of other little patches and enhancements.

Contacts - Can we create custom name phone type (instead of default Mobile/Work/Fax)?

Hi guys,
Coming from a Note5, I am used to creating custom names for my Contact "phone type". e.g. 'Name'-Mobile-#2 or 'Name'-Landline or 'Name'-UK or 'Name'-USA (or any name I want) etc.
Playing with my new HTC U11 (stock ROM currently but not for long), I noticed that when creating a Contact I can only choose the given default phone types, i.e Mobile/ Work/ Fax/ Pager/ Other etc - I cannot see any option to create my own custom name in phone type........
Any suggestions/ advice on this issue?
Do any of the custom ROMs for U11 give this option?
Thanks.
Google Dialer and Contacts will take care of that.
You can do this on HTC Contacts App as well. Tap on the type of phone number, scroll to the bottom of the list and select user defined. Now you can give it a name of your liking.

Thanks but............. I tried this on the stock HTC Contacts app ---> there was no "user defined" option when I scrolled in the 'Phone Type' list - the last option that I had was "other" which just stayed as "other" upon selection/ saving the contact - it was not customizable.
I hope to proved wrong...... as I use the customizable Phone Type a lot (saves me having multiple contacts for the same person).

I have ViperU 1.7 ROM installed now:good: - loving it (1st time Viper user).
However, my previous issue with Contacts remains (stock "People" app):
When I'm trying to create a new contact, I'm unable to get an option for custom label regarding phone type. The options I get are (which are all non-customisable):
- Mobile
- Home
- Work
- Work Fax
- Home Fax
- Pager
- Car
- Company Main
- Radio
- Assistant
- Other
(I have checked several times - definitely no other option beyond these).
Any solution for this within this same app? I have a dual SIM (Asian - htc_ocndugl) 6GB/128GB model.
BTW, is "People" app (which includes phone dialer) stock Android or an HTC sense app?
Also, Is call recording possible natively or with ViperU ROM (I haven't found this option yet)?
Any suggestions for alternative/ 3rd party Dialer/Contact apps? - I'm not keen for this option.... but may end up going for it if it offers customisable phone labels + call recording feature.

Is this working with the stock app on your U11 (i.e. the integrated "People" / "Phone" [dialler]) app?
Did you change your settings in anyway to get this option to work?
What region/ model variant U11 do you have?
Solved!
If the new contact is being saved to Google account, only then does the "custom" label appear for phone type.
Frustratingly, no "custom" label option if saving contact under Phone (local) account - which really sucks.

Good find.
Didn't ever stumble over it, as I'm always synching - and thus are saving - contacts as Google contacts. And yeah that shouldn't be of such a problem to allow custom labels as well, when saving contacts to local phone account.

Any work around then....?
I was wondering if there is anyway to edit/ modify the phone label options within the stock Phone/ People app on rooted device e.g. via modifying a .xml file??? Could a Custom label option be created for a local/phone account??
Any pointers in the right direction will be much appreciated.
