So I just got the OPO. Ive rooted and unlocked bootloader etc. But I'm trying to get my titanium backups from my HTC one to this phone. When I connect over MTP it pops up to view the files, I can see pictures, music, podcasts etc, no titanium backup folder on the root directory. I see another folder says "Storage > emulated > legacy" once I click through those directories the last one "legacy" I can see an odd looking file that says titanium backup, but it doesn't look like a folder and I cannot access it.
However using a file browser on the phone I can access the titanium backup folder in this location.
So how do I access this folder over MTP?? It doesn't make sense to me.
I'm wondering if theres somthing wrong with one of the drivers, I do have a yellow icon in device manager, but everything else workds (fastboot, ADB, and MTP seemingly works)
Just create the folder and put your backup files in it.

Yeah that's what I did. I just didn't understand why I couldn't view the titanium backup folder that was originally created on the one plus one via USB.

I'm in the same situation. I was used to direct storage access through USB, not MTP crap (it's not an old MP3 player! It's a 1+1!!!).
I come from a HTC One X and I had to use GDrive to transfer part of my files. Additionally to should pay attention to file permissions because Windows makes some confusion
and alters them so that you can't write on some folders you bring from the old phone.
My only solution ,so far, is to create the folders using the phone file manager (I'm on Solid Explorer) and then copy the files: in most cases they get the permissions from the folder in which are written.
Found anything new since the 7th October?

I have hellfire phoenix v1.9 running on my g2x. I wanted to add a ringtone from my computer into the g2x.
I have installed the android platform driver and then when I connect, I see drives E and F, but cannot explore them.
I searched and found a suggestion to turn on usb storage--but I find no options on the hellfire phoenix v1.9 to do this.
Also, toggling the usb debugging mode does not change anything.
All I am trying to do is to find the native ringtone folder and add my ringtone which I made in a .ogg format.

The simplest way for you to do this is put the file on your SD card and using either root explorer or ES file manager. You'll want to mount system as writeable via the settings and go to System\media\audio\ringtones\
Note you don't have to make the .ogg files it will still work with MP3's except alarms for some reason. You will also need to reboot before it shows up in your list.

Normally it's read only, as in you can look but you can't touch. Writable means you write to it, you can alter or otherwise put information/files there.
And, yes it's as simple as copy and paste, unless you don't know what you're doing in the first place.
Using ES file explorer is the simplest method. Even if you use ADB you still would have to give it the command to mount the system as writable. If you Droid explorer you still need to have the system mounted as writable.
I don't know if it works on all roms, but Gingerbread based roms if you make a directory named ringtones in the Root of the SD card the phone should read it from there, or it does on mine.
Yes, I did everything--thought it was going to work, but it failed.
Steps I took--
Copied a sound.ogg file into the ext sdcard
Installed ES file explorer and under preferences set permissions to write (because I am rooted)
Copied the file from edt sd card
then switched to the systems\media\audio\ringtones folder, was able to see all the ringtones currently present.
Pasted my sound.ogg file---it said "multiple operations completed, but failed to paste sound.ogg Unclear why..
Should I have rebooted after setting permissions to write, before executing the copy and paste operation?

Use an app called software data cable......works like a charm.....remember u need to be on the same network......it uses FTP service.

I use a really useful app called Airdroid which you can find on the Google market. It allows you to establish a Wifi connection through your computer's web browser to your phone. I then transfer whatever music, files, shows or anything I want through it.

Just followed my previous steps as outlined. Being a noob, I had to do things gingerly, not to screw up. As I guessed, I have to reboot, before the ability to write takes effect (on es file explorer). Then it is just a matter of copy and paste.

Hay guys i just flashed AOKP's rom after backing my IMEI
When I plugged my phone to my computer to move some files, only two folders showed up. "Pictures" and "DCIM"
The computer gives an error that says "The new folder could not be created in this location. The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected" in the main folder but when I go to "pictures" I can create a new folder with ease.
I can still move files into my phone but cant delete/move any other folders
Not sure if this has anything to do with it but the AOKP rom I flashed does not come with the "myfile" app where you can browse your sdcard (which im fine with because i have other apps that can)
Any way to fix this problem?

Mine has done that as well. I'm not sure why. For instance, the pictures folder shows up but it is empty. ES File Explorer can find them on the phone, but windows can't. Same thing with Titanium Backup.
Changing USB ports randomly seemed to help Titanium backup, but my pictures are still invisible.
So at first my pictures don't show up in Windows, but if I create a new folder from Windows in the pictures folder they show up. Its like its not refreshing, but even if I unplug/replug it doesn't refresh. Its weird.

I am tired of restoring all my apps settings and replaying my games from the beginning each time I install a new rom or do a factory reset so I was looking (a couple of hours ago) for how to restore my apps setting and especially my games progress after every data wipe......
I read that many users faced problems using helium and some similar apps (Titanium Backup seems to be perfect for this job but it's a paid app and that is the problem:laugh and after all this I figured out that what were doing these apps to make a full backup of an app is just making a copy of the app.apk and the app folder in /data/data where app is the name of the considered app(sorry if this is well-known but I really didn't know)
So I made this tutorial on how to backup/restore your apps and data MANUALLY because this let you choose which app to backup/restore...
This tutorial is for noobs (because I am noob!!!!!)
Requirements:
Galaxy SL or any other android device.
ES explorer or any other file explorer with root access support.
Your phone needs to be rooted.
Backing up app and data:
Enable your explorer read/write permissions (for ES explorer >>settings>>root options).
Go to /data/app and copy the app.apk to your SD card backup folder.
Go to /data/data and copy app folder to your SD card backup folder.
that's it, now your app is fully backed up.
Restoring app and data:
Install app.apk from backup folder
Go to /data/data and remove the existing app folder (don't launch the app now because it won't start)
Copy the app folder from the backup folder to /data/data
launch your app now, it should work!
that's it, now your app is fully restored.
Notes:
I tried this to backup and restore NFS most wanted progress and it WORKED!!!!
Maybe this methode don't work for some apps but it should work for the rest of them.
For system apps go to /system/app .
app folder should start with "com." (for example "com.ea.games.nfs13_na" for NFS most wanted).
I don't know what is the difference between this methode and the adb methode so can someone tell me if there is a difference.

But there is some small point. The Android system uses technical users to separate the data of the apps from each other. If you copy the files this way then the copied files will belong to root and be accessible for all apps.
So you should also take care that the file and folder attributes for rights, users and groups are correctly set. Therefore start and stop the installed app again, it will create its folder in /data/data. You can then see (and set) the attributes in the properties entry of ES file explorer. And only then overwrite the files with the backup and after this set the attributes.
Unfortunately this is not very comfortable with ES file explorer, because it has to be done for each and every file/folder separately and the technical user has to be chosen from a long list...

Hi ThemGo! You have reopened a bit old thread :laugh: Now a days, the play store is bull of useful apps to backup almost everything on your android device. I found that Titanium backup Pro is the best among them all. Its a paid app but it really deserve it

Of course, but what - as happened to me last month - if your phone dies suddenly, you get yourself a new one and fortunately have a not too old backup made with cwm recovery, what will you do?
Yes, extract the necessary data from the backup and then copy it manually to the new phone.

Havent really tried that but if both phones are using same android version that may work. Because some of my apps that were backed up on Jellybean are not working on Kitkat & Lollipop even when using the same phone so I guess the backup procedure is not just a matter of copying & pasting.

I've recently bought this beautiful device, and I've recently customized it with MaximusHD ROM so now I'm running Android 4.2.2 + Sense 5.0
I want to add my customized iPhone ringtones to my One S. I've googled for something that around the world and it seems damn simple but I cannot manage it to work as expected. I've searched also this forum and the instructions seems everywhere like this:
1) plug your device to the computer
2) transfer your ringtones to the equivalent folder on the device (somewhere it's called ringtones, somewhere else Ringtones I don't know if it's important or not)
3) that's it! You can add your ringtones browsing into Settings - Sound.
Well, I perform the steps but no ringtones at all!
I've tried to replace their extension from .m4r to m4a and also mp3 but nothing changed.
I've tried to reboot and or switch off my device, nothing.
I've tried to put the ringtones in the Download folder and the move them from inside the device with Solid Explorer, nothing.
I've tried to put them in Music folder, nothing at all...
What's wrong?
The ringtones aren't bought from iTunes, they are simple mp3 cropped to 30 sec with this site http audiko dot net/
They are DRM free in fact Solid Explorer can playback them regardless their file extension.
I've even found a thread where it's talking about a .nomedia file in the folder, but it's not the case of my device with Android File Transfer and Solid Explorer I don't see any .nomedia file into Ringtones folder.

Hi, where can I find that option on Play Store?
However in the meantime I've found a solution.... really strange but it works.
I've sent the mp3s via Bluetooth. I had to rename it from m4r to mp3 first but after that I've transferred them to the phone, Settings -> Sound displayed them instantly without rebooting the device. I've noticed that they're stored in downloads/bluetooth folder.
It seems to me that if the Sense doesn't "see" the files then it won't work nevertheless the folder I put them in.
But I can live with mp3 stored in downloads/bluetooth folder. :laugh:
It just sounds really strange to me it doesn't work in the easier way.
I assume that your device is rooted. Use ES File Explorer ... tools ... root explorer ... mount R/W ... then, open system folder ... media folder ... audio ... ringtones. That's where to copy and paste your ringtones. Afterward, simply change ES File Explorer back to R/O and reboot. Your new ringtones will now be in the settings menu.

Yes, it's rooted since I've installed MaximusHD ROM.
In one of my attempts I've tried to put the ringtones in that folder with Solid Explorer (that asked me for permissions) then I rebooted the device but still nothing, only I don't remember if in that attempt the file extensions were mp3 or m4r (ven if it seems it doesn't matter, at least to the file manager that playback them even if I rename it .ogg).
There's one thing that I don't understand: I've noticed that Android File Manager shows me the content of /storage/emulated/0 folder; however in the folder /storage/emulated/0/Ringtones there are two ringtones (hangouts_message.ogg and hangouts_video_call.ogg) that system sound settings recognize without problems. The thing that I don't understand it's why it doesn't work if I put my files among this two.
Oh and there's also another ringtone that the system sound settings recognize and it's placed in /storage/emulated/0/media/audio/notifications but again if I put my files there they aren't recognized.
I don't understand why files sent via Bluetooth works while transferring directly in the proper folder by USB don't...
They can be ogg or mp3 files, either will work. However they need to be placed into system folders, not simply put into storage folders of internal memory on your sd card. In order to do that you will need root explorer or ES file explorer, and mount the system as I explained earlier. If you need a step by step instruction, let me know.

Hi, thank you. What's really sound strange to me it's that a "normal user" has to root his device to put some ringtones on it while using Bluetooth everything works fine. I mean, even Apple let you put your ringtones with iTunes, without jailbraking the iPhone.
Besides, if this is the only method that works, then I really don't understand what is the purpose of Ringtones, Notifications folders in the /storage/emulated/0 (those normally displayed by Android File Transfer app) if they doesn't do what expected.
Those folders already existed on the phone, I didn't touch anything.
Actually, the Maximus rom changes your sd card ... my guess is, that is what is keeping you from simply dropping the files into the ringtone folder, like you can on a stock rom. None the less, if you are rooted, the best and most complete way, is to do what I described earlier.
Yeah, it's possible. I can ask on the official topic of that ROM maybe.

I'm using Titanium Backup on the latest L Preview and while the apps and data get backed up fine, I'm unable to access this folder from the PC via MTP. In This PC\Nexus 5\Internal storage\storage\emulated\legacy, there is a blank icon file called TitaniumBackup, which is supposed to be a folder in which all the data is stored. Using ES File Explorer on the phone, I can see that the files are all stored in /sdcard/TitaniumBackup, but when I try to open that on the PC (This PC\Nexus 5\Internal storage\TitaniumBackup), the folder is empty.
Is there any security setting that causes this? How do I access the files in the folder from the PC?
UPDATE: I just used ES File Explorer to move all the files from /sdcard/TitaniumBackup into /sdcard/TitBac and I can now access these. I still think this is a workaround and that there has to be a better way to do this.

mtp is generally buggy for me, so i got used to adb push/pull
I'm having the EXACT same problem. Go to backup save location, and nothing but one 4.0 kb file. No backups. I can see them in ES, but I'm also having a separate issue writing to shared folders on my pc with ES. Can anyone provide some insight?
When you first plug the phone in, all folders appear as a file. It takes a bit for windows to determine their actual properties. Bigger folders take longer. So try waiting a bit. Otherwise try mtp in TWRP or adb pull as mentioned
This also just happened on the Galaxy SIII Intl with a recent OmniROM nightly. Now, prior to flashing Lollipop, I was running an Omni nightly on the Nexus 5 as well. Not sure if this has something to do with it...

This is worth a shot. I also just looked for some ADB-based file explorers and found a few, but one of them was abandoned and the other one requires GTK+ and building, so I'm wondering if you've got a personal favorite...

I'm pretty sure I waited a reasonable while before concluding this, but other than the Windows Explorer progress bar, there's really not much you get to go by. The Titanium Backup folder in question doesn't have too many files (~500) and I've had folders with images and videos (DCIM, mostly) with at least 5 times more files show up instantly. I don't think this is the issue, but I'll give it a try when I face this problem next.
