Right now, there is no way to root it. Hopefully there will be a towelroot update or a new root method soon.

mind boggling the way they lock down these bottom shelf phones. it's not like it has anything to do w/ carrier subsidy because unlock is easy.
w/o root, this thing runs out of storage space with very few apps, and that's with native app moving, clearing cache, and so on. just terrible. I love the phone too, but looking to upgrade soon because of this...

No, not at the moment. Alcatel has locked it down pretty tightly.
I'm not sure if my phone has different factory firmware, but I have a Koodo 7040T Pop Icon that allows me to write nearly everything to SD, I have tons of big MB/GB games on my phone. I formatted a 64GB SD card to FAT32, works like a charm! I still have not found root, still searching....
Im not sure if anyone else has successfully done this but i have rooted the pop icon
using kingroot apk
---------- Post added at 10:35 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:26 AM ----------
all i did was run kingroot>phone reboots>open apps in seetings> go to kingroot>clear all data > open king root and run again.
I repeated this twice i think and it successfully rooted
I have an Alcatel Onetouch Pop Icon A564C. The phone is good, but the lack of space and the inability to add more is horrible. I can't even use an SD card.
I've only had the phone for about three months now and I'm already considering buying a new one.

Mr 3D,
Can you confirm that you have, in fact, rooted a Pop Icon 7040T, Build number 6G1M-UDM2? This is the phone that I have, which was previously network locked to Telus.

Uhm did you ever try Framaroot 1.9.3? I've seen that it will work using Boromir, Faramir and Barahir exploits. But before doing it, make sure you did a user backup of your phone.
Power Off your device, hold power button and volume down button at the same time, choose create user backup. It will take about 15 mins. and 100.0+Mb of your phone memory.

I've tried Framaroot 1.9.3 and it works for the first time, the after three factory resets it won't work and the SuperSU app doesn't show, which is my indicator if the root was really successful. Must've been a bug. The solution I found with this problem is
I installed the SuperSU app myself form a previous backup. It worked after another reboot and my phone was rooted (Which is a Cherry Mobile Topaz). If you want, try it on your phone but if it works on mine doesn't it works on yours too.
how can I downgrade my phone? its Alcatel One Touch Inspire2. Please help
Couldn't find any threads of a successful root method for this device so I figured I'd try a few and found one that works flawlessly.
Instructions:
1. Search Google for "[APP][ROOT] Android 4.1.2 Rooting Universal Method" and click on the first result (this is my first thread so I can't post links, sorry for the inconvenience).
Follow this rooting method and verify root access with Root Checker once finished.
2. Next, go to the PlayStore and download the SuperUser and Titanium Backup apps.
3. Open the new SuperUser app (you'll notice that the installed SuperUser app isn't in English). Click "Allow" on the pop-up, then proceed to update the binary (this switches the link from the Asian SuperUser app to The English one)
4. Then, go into Titanium Backup and delete the previously installed SuperUser app (1.-something, it's picture of a shield).
5. Now you have a rooted Alcatel One Touch Evolve 5020T. Enjoy!!!

I'm only familiar with the ROMs and CWM for the Sidekick 4G (because it was running Froyo). I'm keeping the stock ROM on the Alcatel for now. Jelly Bean is such a big improvement from Froyo and Gingerbread, I have no issues with it so far. As far as compatibility I'd wait a bit for someone to develop a working ROM for this phone since the soft keys and the Android menus were customized a bit by Alcatel, but if you feel like being a pioneer, go ahead. :good:

Can I suggest people just use the Kingo app to root? It appears to be the exact same program, but in English and doesn't put a Chinese SU app on your phone. I noticed slowdowns and odd behavior when using the method in the OP but have not noticed the same when using Kingo. I would link to a thread, but I don't want to hijack this one.

Go to Alcatels website and download one touch upgrade software. Just Google it.
I did the same thing and thought i borked my phone. Just follow the instructions to "upgrade" the software
and it will reflash the phones firmware.
I you can get a boot splash your phone can be brought back.
The roms are under a different model name search google for roms in the alcatel one touch pop line and many will work

I tried Kango initially, as it has worked on other Alcatels for me. But not on the 5020T, at least for me. The Asian root worked fine, and I thought it to be somewhat interesting.
I used the towelroot app to root my 5020T. Then I installed SuperSU. Works like a charm.

I did the same rooting it with Towelroot, yet quite a few things are blocked off for some reason from supersu access.
I can't use titanium backup nor root explorer with root privileges.
The camera shutter sound doesn't work like the old huawei phones. Apparently, when you snap a photo, the phone turns the volume up to maximum volume, so silent mode nor using apps to turn off the shutter sound doesn't work. I had to manually delete the shutter sound file. Replacing the file wasn't possible as well.
There is a way to go into recovery, but doesn't do much.

Edit 2:
Atention!!!
I used the backup folder of SD ext. After I backup all applications and restart gave were deleted data !!! I have not found any backup !!! Titanium Backup not work!
I am using supersu with towelroot though.
Can I root again with RootGenius? Would that break anything?

I just bought this phone and it proves unrootable. Any help in allowing root on this model would be greatly appreciated.
Already tried with vroot, doesn't work since phone restarts again and again until I disconnect USB
I need root for low - scalle modding it for my taste and deleting unnecesarry bloatware.
Anyone with any advice, help or guide, please help
Regards
Its very simple..just go shuame.com.
Then ckick green android logo ..and download the app..run it on your device ..it should work..But im not shure..
shuame.com not do it.
It would be great if we could ask some senior member to see what's needed for this model to be rooted. It's relatively new device and it isn't unrootable, just no one with enough knowledge of rooting didn't get it yet....I hope root method will appear soon...and this thread won't die...
EDIT:
Rooted with vroot.apk
googled it, d-led, installed and it worked
used it for debloating my phone and then deleted, because AFAIK it's not safe and is treated as malware
so if you need workaround and root for this model just google this apk and use it

For google play to work it needs some other apps that are hidden. The best would be to flash gapps package for your phone. This will require root. But just so you know, Google Play and all other dependecies (apps that google play needs to work) MUST be installed on the /system partition to work. This also requires root making the only way of proprely installing Google Play possible only with root (or a just a custom recovery such as CWM or TWRP)

WARNING: Rooting may or may not break your phone. Rooting WILL void your warranty!
Go to internet browser to this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2784451&d=1402084843
Install the apk to your phone.
Open it. There should be a few options.
At the botton there will be 2 or 3 buttons with names such as Broomir...
Try pressing all of them one by one. If it says Root Sucessfull on one of the buttons just turn off your phone and turn it back on.
You now have root. What is your phone model?

Imei is the least of your problems, you can brick your device making it completely useless. But that is VERY unlikely with the Framaroot. Cant you just write down your imei number on a peace of paper? To get the number you dial *#06*
Anyways I have rooted many devices and never got a hard brick. I had a soft-brick countless times but I know how to fix it.
Keep in mind that rooting will void your warranty but it shouldn't break anything (in most cases).

Make sure you installed the latest version (1.9.2) and that you tried all the exploits (all the buttons below)
If you have tried it I recommend using iRoot (previously known as vRoot) or if that fails try Kingo Root.
Make sure you have installed ADB Drivers and Google's USB Drivers installed. Here's a 15 second installer.
