Just purchased my M8 and moving over from an iphone 5s. It seems as though there reception is noticeably worse with the m8 versus my iphone. I have updated to the current version of the radios (baseband version 1.09.20.0702). Are there any other tweaks out there that can improve reception on the phone. I am rooted and s-off, but on the stock 4.4.3
Thanks
What is the signal strength ? Can you compare with a different phone at the same location. Did you upgrade the firmware or only the radios?
Are you also only going by just signal bars or looking at the rssi values

I am going by the fact that my iphone was solid on 4g and the m8 is flip flopping from 3g to 4g. It is killing the battery when I am at home. I will have to check the actual signal strength tonight. Also, I am on the latest firmware, I think (2.21.605.2)

Allegedly the new radios are supposed to help maintain better lte connections

Ok...i added the Blaze Radio Mod to my Stock 4.0.4 Firmware on my Skyrocket. All went good. I see a 4G now. BUT...theres no bars in the signal. Why is this? And when i do the speed test now...keep saying try again. Ok...just now as im typing this...i changed the WCDMA to 1700....an now the speedtest gave me 3.00 Mbps download and 0.49 upload. But only 1 bar in my signal. Any way at all to improve that? I know my bar was more then that when i had edge or my other 3G phone. Let me know something if your reading this....and thanks.
THANKS TO ALL YOU GUYS ON HERE THAT REPLIED TO MY COMMENTS TO HELP. ILL TRY TO GIVE THANKS TO ALL OF YOU. THANKS AGAIN.
so on at&t uclf6 you were not getting 4G LTE? i have had no problems... i would not recommend using the blaze radio as it just never worked as well for me. have you tried some of the other ics radios? there are a bunch floating around. good luck
No i havent. People seem to be saying Blaze's Mod one is the only or at least best one. I mean...the 4G is there.....but no signal bars. Why would that be tho?
Oh..its unlocked using T Mobile now. If that helps.
I suspect the signal meter with with blaze mod is not that accurate. I routinely get in the a high percentage under cell standby time without signal, even in areas I know I have service. These are areas I spend multiple hours at a time at making and receiving calls.
Man..i dont know. Something is funny with this. When i turn my WiFi off....the 4G comes on...no signal bars...Market take a while to load. Few apps even timed out. And i KNOW im in a good coverage area. Is the Blaze Mod radio actually the best one? Is there others to use for us thats unlocked using T Mobile?
By saying 4G do you mean LTE or HSPA+?
It just shows 4G at the top. Is there another symbol? In my settings...about phone....it says Mobile Network Type:UMTS:3. I did see HSPA earlier for a bit. Guess i still have some fiddling to do. Wonder if there is another Radio that may give me more Bars. Mine shows 1 or none. But has the 4G symbol.
on skyrocket 4G isn't actually 4G it shows it when your connected to HSPA and I think also GSM not sure about the latter.
When your connected to LTE it will show 4G LTE.
Also by choosing WCDMA your actually choosing HSPA or at least that's how it looks to me.
Try different radios before working by stuff you read people say, each phone has different hardware, everyone leaves in different areas and thus each modem works differently for different people.
Also download network signal app from the market and check your dbm which means your reception, you can't count on bars because it's programmed differently for each modem -65 dmb and lower(or higher if your a match freak) is excellent -65 to -75 is good and the close it is to -100 is the worse reception you have.

Hmmm. True. Man..im tired of swapping all these Radios. Wanna find one that works decent at least. Some people say they get 1 to no bars in the house like i do. Then go outside an get 3 Bars. Im gonna download that Signal app. Sounds very interesting. I have it on LTE in the *#2263* now. Let me try the signal thing. Thanks man.
[Edit] Love the Network Signal Info Pro. Even tho its showing a frown for my mobile. But WiFi really good. I saw some Network Signal Boosters. I mean...do those really work if anyone know? Tried 2...didnt really see anything.
... is FANTASTIC!
For those of you in areas where T-Mobile has recently modernized it's network to support the 1900Mhz band, check your reception.
I use to be in and out of EDGE and 4G from area to area. And I just realized that, in my house, where I would only get EDGE, I have FULL BARS in 4G.
I just did 9Mpbs down / 2Mbps up in my room where I would be damned if I ever got past 100kb/10kb.
I use Network Signal Info app and widget and prior to the update the widget only showed HSDPA 14.4mbs and now after the update im showing HSDPA+21.6
Looks like some radio updates were in the JB update.
Im still not pulling down those speeds but its nice to see the radios were updated. Looks like more testing on my end needs to be done to see how much better the data speeds are for me.
I have a T-Mobile CelFi booster because the way my house is built, which seems to block out signals to various carriers. The booster worked pretty well for Nexus 4 and HTC One. However, now that I have Nexus 5, I am getting consistently low bars of signal. People on other end of calls often tell me they can't hear me. I am not entirely sure if the booster just doesn't work with Nexus 5. Based on my observation, it seems to be trying to hang onto signals from the tower for longer before it switches to the booster, though I cannot say for sure because honestly I am not sure if that's how it works or not. Anyone have similar experience or might have a suggestion on I can fix this?

What booster do you have?

Theory:
Nexus 4 doesn't provide LTE, only HSPA+. Nexus 5 is LTE. LTE is preferred over HSPA+ when available. Your booster is likely an older unit that only supports HSPA+ and does not improve LTE. Therefore, your Nexus 5 is getting boosted HSPA+ but ignoring it in favor of a weak LTE signal.
Just a theory, though.

This is certainly plausible -- however, it's puzzling as the OP indicated that s/he's having voice call issues. The old boosters only supported AWS, but I know of no T-Mobile area that would have LTE and PCS HSPA, but no AWS HSPA.
I have an old booster, and last I checked, it appeared that my N5 was using it just fine (I have no real coverage issues, but I stuck the repeater in my basement to improve signal there). However, I don't have LTE coverage at my house, so I'm unsure if there are any LTE->HSPA handover vagaries that the booster could be exposing.
There is a newer booster that supports LTE and PCS HSPA. According to a thread of Howard Forums, T-Mobile has them, but getting one appears to be a challenge. You may want to take a run at upgrading the booster by calling CC or retentions.

I got my booster less than a month ago, older version. There are times where I get a faint LTE signal at my house, but the booster usually pushes HSPA+ over the LTE. Maybe the OP needs to position the booster and receiver in different spots? I had to do this as well. To the OP, do you suffer from poor call quality outside of your house in your travels, or just in your house?
I've gotten the phone today and feel like the software signal bars are reporting incorrect signal strength and also showing LTE connectivity when there isn't any.
Also the radio seems to be really bad at getting LTE signal. My Nexus 5 would have LTE in areas this phone is stuck on HSPA. Anyone else notice this issue?

Have had lte all day so far. Will see when I get to work where my n6 would drop to 3g and h on the reg
Maybe it just has super duper reception.
Had 4g lte all night @ work
Yeah haven't had issues. All is ok. Lte is kicking

That's what I am worried about. I am receving HSPA in areas where I've used to get a strong LTE connection with my Nexus 5. Asking for a replacement. Not only that, but I'm also dropping calls.
Hi,
I've noticed that if I set network to 4G LTE battery drain is something like 1.5x/2x than 3G. Anyone else noticed this

Probably you don't have good 4G coverage where you live/work, and phone must increase power to get decent signal.
Use 3G, and only swich to 4G when really need it, waiting that phone company installs new 4G antennas around you.

Well, the 4g modem needs more power. So, the battery would drain isn't really a surprise. mikicl could be also right.
