So what is the exact dpi for each device? I'm getting conflicting reports from various websites & even when they do report the resolution against the screen size & I use a dpi calculator I come up with a dpi that doesn't match what's reported.
Case in point: On GSM Arena they list the following for the Note Edge - 1600 x 2560 pixels, 5.6 inches (~524 ppi pixel density).
Yet when I plug in those figures into a dpi calculator I get a dpi of 539.08. Am I missing something here?
Based on those numbers it seems like the Note Edge has a better resolution than the Note 4.

Has anyone ever thought of trying to run the touch pro or diamond at 480 x 800 ?
Not likely, as it would be kind of blurry and ugly, considering the native resolution (i.e. how many physical pixels are actually there) is 480 x 640 in both cases.
Oh ok I was kind of thinking like for example, the 96 dpi hack for qvga screens.
i just checked my htc sensation roted resouktation and it shows that my screen 240ppi rather then what it states on htc phone
Display Type S-LCD capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors
Size 540 x 960 pixels, 4.3 inches (~256 ppi pixel density)
source from http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_sensation-3875.php
and a screen shot of showing that it is running 540*960 at 240 ppi rather then 256
i need to know if this is only happening to me or your phone have the same ppi
please reply to me anyone
beside i just wanna know i'm not really worried about the ppi thing but i want to know if this is only happening to me or other people have the same thing.
i'm using lcd resolution app from market its free and only require root.
my phone is set at the same 240 ppi

i wonder why they had to lie about the ppi thing.
HTC have not listed the dpi on this phone as 256.... GSM arena can say what ever spec they want but it doesnt mean it true. The optimum dpi for that display when its sold may be 256 or may not but either way all HTC roms are set as 240..
all that prog does is change the entry in the build prop file

in the software you can actually change the resolution but i thought lets just stick with 240 thing.
The software is telling you dpi, not ppi. A dot can consists of more than 1 pixel, and if you set the dpi so that each pixel contains more than 1 dot... it can look weird.
Changing the dpi setting can increase/decrease the font and various graphics on screen. That's why many of the 5- or 7-inch tablets, although only have WVGA resolution, display more stuff on screen than many of the WVGA phones. They simply scale up the dpi setting. Of course setting it too high on a low ppi screen will make everything looks crappy.
i understand the screen resolution is 1280 x 800 but does anyone know what size wallpapers need to be. they are larger than screen resolution to provide mulitple screens sliding. thanks
note: i believe they need to be 1280 x 1600 (horizontal - vertical) for scrolling wallpapers.
and of course 800 x 1280 - if you use disable wallpaper scrolling.
Live Wallpaper
Phone not support live wallpaper?
Tried 3 different, all worked fine.
sent from my Galaxy Note via T*patalk
ist nice

Any wallpaper with resolution of 1280 x 1280 is best for note (without scrolling)..
Hi,
I have a Samsung SkyRocket and Infuse both are set at a HDPI of 240.The Infuse has a DPI (dot per inch) width of 234.46153
and DPI height of 236,27907. The SkyRocket has a DPI width of 160.42105 and DPI height of 160.0.
Since both phones are set at a HDPI of 240 I am assuming that the Infuse has a better screen than the Skyrocket? I thought they were suppose to be the same screen? Why are the dot density different?
Looking at both phones, the Infuse has much sharper and illuminated fonts.
Thank you for any useful information in advance,
Giovanni
DPI is length (in X or Y direction) / amount of dots (pixels - for ppi).
If both screens have the same size and same proportion (which means equal X and Y sizes) - it means both screens have the same actual DPI.
That is, unless one of the screens is Pentile and the other isn't - which is not the case here.
You can see in specs that both screens are approx. 207ppi (pixels per inch). This is physical measurement, HW.
Whatever is set in SW - can be changed.
Hi Jack,
Thank you for your response. What you say makes a lot of sense.
Would you happen to know? Why is it that Pixel Density (dots per inch) is much lower on the SkyRocket after a factory reset? The app that I'm using is Screen&System and is showing a DPI width of 160.42105 and DPI height of 160.0. for the SkyRocket. Is there anyway
to change that and make it the same as the Infuse's width of 234.46153 and DPI height of 236,27907? Both phone's
are set at a HDPI of 240 already.
Thank you for your help!
Giovanni

Since the app can't physically measure a screen, you'll need to know where the measurement comes from to see why it's shown as it is. Maybe it's another setting in build.prop, maybe something else.
Thank you for your response. Would you happen to know? Is there an app out there where I can verify where the measurement is coming from? I think I may have a defective screen with my Samsung SkyRocket
Thank you as your responses are much appreciated.

hi everyone
I need to ask something that i was unable to find answer on internet or Google searching. I come straight to the point. It's basically a general thing about devices that i found different in aspect of screen resolution and i couldn't find difference.
There is one Android device which gives resolution of 540*960 on a 5inch LCD and there is an Android phone which gives 1080*1920 resolution on 5.1 inch LCD like S5 AND 1440*2560 resolution on 5.1 inch LCD.
I want to ask what is the difference that these resolution gives, i am currently using 540*960 resolution phone and what difference i would note by using 1080*1920 resolution? will thing appear small on it?
For example on a home screen, i have a gadget of weather, will it appear more smaller? because i didn't get the difference of resolution and their result difference.

firstly i can guess by the post that you are a noob but would like to help you change to pro so here it goes
the difference are
420*320 and below ldpi-small- 2-3inches - packed with 100 to 150 ppi screen
470*320and below IS mdpi - normal- 3 to 4.2 inches - packed with upto 200ppi
640*480and up IS hdpi- large-4.2 to 7 inches - packed with 200 to 300ppi
920x720and up IS qhdpi- extra large- more than 7 inches - packed with >300ppi
if that's unclear to you
try searching up screen support on google or api guidelines
if i helped hit that thanks meter

i am sorry if i sounded noob but i was unaware of these things. I was just wondering what's the difference of resolutions when the screen size is same.
From your post what i got was, that it is basically the PPI thing, which makes screen more bright and colorful etc. so more PPI is based on more resolution or pixels.
I am currently using Huawei G610s and it has 640*480 with 220ppi. I thought that resolution is same as in case of computers, the more resolution the more smaller the pixel and picture size and more desktop area. I am currently using 1680*1050. So i thought in same context and was wondering and thought to ask.

firstly ppi refers to the pixels per inch
it in simple words is how tightly pixels are packed in a sq inch of area on the screen . the more the ppi count the smaller each pixel gets providing you with sharper and intense quality display
also if you did not search api guidelines on google
i am here to help you
here go ahead and just go through the detailed version and i think it will solve almost all of your query

don't forget to hit thanks :good:
Now. Don't get concerned on how you sound. We were all like that at some point. The resolution that you have probably is around 200 DPI (depending on screen size) My phone (Xperia SP) has a 4.6 inch 1024 x 720 display AKA 720p display. In person, how they look actually matters. Anything above 300ppi is crisp and extremely sharp. A Samsung galaxy s5 has a PPI of around 400. These numbers don't really matter but if you see them in person, they really look nice. Hope I helped you.
